We thought it was a dollar off in general (since the store is named the "float") but it's literally a dollar off on an ice cream float. You either pick a float from their pre-selected menu, or make one of your own by picking the beer, ice cream and topping of your choice for $6. $5 with the Yelp check-in. Interesting concept. They didn't offer much options for pastries so we decided to order their sandwiches instead. He got the Tuna for $9.50 and I got the Vegetarian $8.50. Prices may seem a tad bit high, but you can definitely tell that they use fresh bread and ingredients to make their sandwiches. They added a hint of mustard peppers in the Tuna to bring out the saltiness, and cream cheese in the Vegetarian to bring out the sweetness. I know, you are probably confused reading this ... so was I when they told me they didn't have any other lids. The coffee lid is too big for their takeout cups, so it leaked and made a bit of a mess in my car, as much as I tired driving carefully and slowly (keep in mind I couldn't take a sip during the drive). If something big did happen on the road while driving, it would have made a big mess in my car and would have even been potentially dangerous considering how hot the drink was. I really, really love Float's location - located in Pasadena, there's a cute and charming alleyway with small tables and chairs for the various nearby stores. Parking is a breeze as there's a free 90 minute parking lot located behind Lake. I ended up meeting my friend here for coffee one Saturday afternoon, and I was surprised at how quaint it was. I did have a difficult time deciding on a drink to order, but I went with a hot vanilla latte ($4 or $4.50) after asking the barista for his recommendation. I really enjoyed the drink - with the latte art on top and the smooth and creamy finish, I was surprised at how quickly I downed the latte. It wasn't too bitter nor was it too sweet; I couldn't really taste the vanilla flavoring, but I liked the flavor of the drink all the same. My friend ordered a customized iced coffee and while I didn't try it myself, she said she really enjoyed the drink. They also have ice cream floats (hence their name) as well as a variety of sandwiches. They did look a little pricey, but from the reviews - sounds as if they are really worth it. No minimum on credit card (at least from what I remember). Two times they couldn't come through. The first was about 2 months ago. I went in only to find out I couldn't order anything because they had a large order they were working on and simply weren't taking any orders. This wasn't at closing it was in the middle of their business hours. The next time was today. I walked in to find they were out of 3 key items for making sandwiches including their Dutch crunch bread and tomatoes and clearly no attempt to remedy it. They gave up and posted a sign rather than have someone walk across the street to the grocery store to at least pick up some tomatoes. Both times ended up being a complete waste of time. I got the rosemary pastrami sandwich with rosemary and olive oil potato chips and a guava soda. They had so many options for sodas! No float this time but I'll definitely be in again to try one next time. The sandwiches are reasonably priced, most around $8-9 or so, plus for $3.50 extra you get chips and a drink. I have been to your eatery at least 30 times since. Of those 30 times there have been about 10 that left me annoyed and felt like I wasted my money eating there. The sandwiches all seem amazing and so beware, you may have a difficult time deciding what to order. The staff was really nice and gave me recommendations. I ended up getting the Italian sandwich. The portion is pretty large so you could pack half away for a second meal if you're not too hungry. I will definitely be coming back to try out more things on the menu. I had to wait about 25 minutes, though it was not too busy; just a few people ahead of me who had already ordered when I got there. The guy who made my drink was very sweet and helpful. Seems like he was the only person working. So, it's obviously not his fault, but it really was a long wait for just one cup of coffee... They had some sandwiches on the menu that looked good. But, unfortunately, no gluten free bread or any gluten free options for pastries for that fact. She thought she could only finish half, but it was so good she ate it all. I ordered the pastrami banh mi with hot pastrami, pickled daikon and carrots, cucumber, red onion and cilantro. Got that Italian sandwich which was pretty dry and not that tasty. I actually didn't mind the bread's texture though it tasted burnt. The biggest turn off for me was actually how dirty the store was. Either they're understaffed or not able to manage to keep order in a small space, but I lost my appetite looking at how filthy the floors, walls, and other surfaces were. There was a staff closet that looks pretty gross inside and was left open, even after we shut the door to hide the unappetizing mop bucket and stained floor. You can see into the kitchen from the front and that also looked sloppy and lacking order. Supplies are hastily stashed next to loaves of bread in the front room, and the trash bin looked like it hasn't been wiped down since the day it was purchased. It's a bummer because even if their drinks and menu are decent, there's a lack of cleanliness and care with how the interior is maintained that makes me not want to come back. read more
