I am into wellness and trying new modalities and was super excited to try Float Station. It is a modern building in an area that is not so modern which was cool. The lighting and decor was very clean and welcoming. The float therapy itself, I found super relaxing and meditative. They use 1200 pounds of Epsom salt per pod which is mindblowing and I had to ask multiple times to make sure I got it right. It's worth a try before you decide for yourself if you want to make it part of your regular wellness routine.

Floating for meditation/stress relief was on the top of my to try list this year. I'm so glad I was able to grab the holiday special for a free float with a membership. I brought my sister along since she was stressed so it was a first for the both of us. The facility appeared clean. There are 5 individual pods and each float lasts one hour long. Each pod contains 1200 lbs of epsom salt (be very careful getting water in your eyes, mouth, and cuts--it is very very salty) so you are bound to float. There are cradles for your head if you need help floating. You can request relaxation music to play the entire time or float in silence (I chose the former). You can also choose to keep the blue relaxation light, complete blackout, or alternating colors during your float. Floating for an hour was quite long. I got restless at the halfway point. I don't meditate often and usually am quite active. With practice, I think an hour can be quite beneficial. During my float, common areas of pain in my shoulders/neck/ back ached. I was quite shocked because I did not experience any aches elsewhere. My fingertips and toes did not get pruney. I also needed to pee really badly despite using the restroom immediately before. All in all, this was a very cool experience. I believe in the long term benefits for pain management, cortisol control, improved sleep, and improved athletic performance even after one session.

My first float was today. I have been having sleep problems which I am certain that stress is the root cause of it. I work a lot and I have a lot on my plate. I just dropped out of my spring semester because I knew I wouldn't be successful at it. I start my new role in 4 weeks. I am traveling in 3 weeks for an entire week for work. There's a lot going on and I am excited and anxious about the next chapter in my life. I had a phone appt w/ my doctor about my sleep but nothing he advised me that I already don't know. Since I cannot negate the stress and do not know how to manage it, I decided to try this instead - to be in the still. No checking emails constantly and embracing the silence. Clean, sleek, and minimalistic establishment. Katie welcomed me and walked me through everything. A few things to know: - take shoes off and either put on their sandals or be barefoot - after signing a waiver, you are advised to use the restroom - you will be introduced to the pod that you signed up to - you take a shower (use their shampoo / body wash) before - you also take a shower after (can use conditioner) - there's a head pillow foam thing, can act like a pillow - soft, serene music at the beginning and at the end of your session (signaling time to get out) - the water adjusts to your body temperature The first 15 minutes, I couldn't seem to shake the feeling of being quiet. I thought about work, my schoolwork, my kids, everything. I even tried to meditate. I don't know how but I eventually fell asleep. When I woke up, I felt proud of myself. I felt happy that I somehow found an outlet to relieve my stress. It was an amazing experience. I'm considering being a member. I need to learn to be selfish in someway or form. But the term "selfish" has a negative connotation that people often avoid admitting to. It is not a negative term, it depends on the circumstances. I go 100 miles per hour from the time I wake up to the time I can finally get some shuteye. I owe it to myself to refocus and make sure my goals align w/ the path I am on. Thank you, Float Station and thank you to Katie for being warm and welcoming.

First time floating today and we will definitely be coming back. We were greeted by Diana who was super nice, helpful, and very informative since we'd never done a float tank before. The place is very clean, part of what attracted us to this location in the first place. When you walk in you take your shoes off and can grab some slippers and sit down in their bright waiting area. They give you the guidelines for floating, essentially going over the FAQ in depth, and are there to answer any questions. When we got to our room (we each had our own separate room) they gave us a run down of what was in the room, what to expect, and the process. First things first, you should rinse off and use their shampoo and soap to get clean in a lukewarm shower before you enter the pod. Since the pod is not a hot tub I chose to take a cooler than usual shower so that I wouldn't experience any discomfort if the water was colder than anticipated. Next you hop into the pod which is HUGE! I was so nervous that I would feel claustrophobic but this was not the case at all. You can keep the light on during your float or turn it off, providing full sensory depravation! It's so rad!!! The music slowly stops after a few minutes and you feel like you are floating through space. If you are worried about head support they have a small floatie but with all of the salt it's not needed! I used earplugs, my partner did not. This place is all about options and empowering you to make the most out of your float experience. I was so relaxed I dozed off for a bit, it was glorious. My partner took the full meditation route and he said he had a really excellent experience keeping his eyes open in the pitch black and feeling the floating sensation throughout the duration of his time in the pod. As your float time is about to end the music will come on and eventually the lights and jets will come on. You get out, shower off in your personal pod room and walk out feeling relaxed, refreshed, and rejuvenated. Will definitely be checking out the membership option!!!

As a member, can guests use our hours as well or is it only for the member's use?

Is it salt water or chlorine? Can you clarify in detail what specific chemical you use to sanitize? Do you have an air purifier in the room? Thanks.

    Great questions, RS!

I'm thinking of going with friends for my birthday, how many pods are there? (I know it's 1 person per pod) Just wondering: Is this good for a group to do at the same time (but by ourselves)?

Is the water replaced between sessions?

Great question! Maintaining the purity of our water is a top priority! Please take a look at how we do this here: https://floatstation.com/faq/

Can kids do this? What's the minimum age?

Hi! The minimum age is 16, and requires that a parent be present at first float to co-sign the waiver.

I got a gift card from my husband and when trying to book a session online I was asked to select a pod number. Is there a difference in the rooms/pods? Also, is it necessary to enter credit card information to register? Thank you!

You don't have to input credit card info and all the pods and room set up are the same.

Hi, do we need to buy a membership or can you book/pay per appointment? If so what is the cost per appointment? I am completely new to the float spa.

Hi! We love first-time floaters!! Great question. Yes, you can absolutely buy a float-at-a-time, and do not need to be a member to float at Float Station. As a non-member, the cost is $110/float. For members, the cost is $89/float. Check out our…

Do I need to book an appointment or walk-ins are just fine especially for first timers?

Before my flare up, I was at the gym regularly with pretty good cardio. A friend of mine suggested I go and try a session with her. I was admittedly pretty wary since I didn't see how sitting in a room of salt would make a difference. I went and after the session, I noticed I could walk and jog without issue. I was even able to get a good gym session in the next day! I've asked my pulmonologist about it and he said that it is indeed a thing and also offered me a corresponding medical treatment. With that and this, my breathing is slowly but sure improving overall rather than just spurts here and there. Avery, the owner, if friendly and knowledgeable about how each of her services work. You can call to book or schedule online. Either way works and it is super easy to do. The chairs are comfortable and you can lounge in them. There are also some yoga mats if you want to use those. You do need to bring clean socks (or you can buy a pair for $2!) to bring to each session. I have also used the individual booth sauna which has a setting to allow you to get salt inhalation too. You can use it as a sauna or, I can't handle heat so, you can have a low heat place to yourself. There is also a community room where you book a spot and you may share the room with others so be respectful! There are other services here too but since I've never used them, I won't give any opinion. Parking is plentiful here too. I definitely recommend this to people with health issues and those that just want to relax. There is a reason why back in the day doctors recommended going to the beach :P They might not have known the science behind the benefits but they knew! I really do recommend this and I do have about it to friends. :)

The Good: *Received a deal thru chase points *Hiking trails located on the property made it easy to plan a relaxing weekend without needing to drive. I enjoyed both trails, the redwoods were beautiful and healing. It would probably be good for corporate/team building excursions, especially with the ropes course, but that would require extra reservations. We walked by the ropes course on our hike but its normally closed without staff to facilitate. *Spa facilities were great (included steam room, sauna, and 3 hot tubs on the property. the gym was also quite large) There's a hot tub located in the spa area which also has a nice koi pond. locker rooms and showers are easy to use. *Check in is early at 4pm, and I was able to do a late checkout at 12pm. if you're only staying for one night, definitely come early so you can enjoy their spa facilities to the max. *2 large pools, one for adults and kids. the pool area in general is quite large with cabanas for lounging *beautiful more secluded property, with lots of open space *bathrobes provided in the room *courteous staff, especially the night security Victor was very attentive and accommodating. I would come back when he's working! *the smart temperature settings in my room was quite effective and easy to use. I liked the interface alot. *dog friendly! enjoyed greeting all the other pups staying on the property *nice indoor & outdoor lounge areas & outdoor sports available, like tennis & bocce ball *the view restaurant does boast live music during certain times The not so good: *the room facilities itself looked tired and outdated. the bathtub had black on the tiles *expected more extras included out this price point. Not much in terms of toiletries and coffee/tea, although the coffee machine was quite clean and new. *our "patio" didn't have any privacy because it overlooked the side of the pool and did not have any wall. So if we kept our patio screen curtains open, there was no privacy. *the room itself was also smaller than expected, for the price tag. *the View restaurant/bar closes at 9pm which seems quite early for an all inclusive bar. We opted for dinner out in Capitola (which was clearly the right choice) and I was hoping to come back and enjoy the hotel bar & view afterwards but everything was sadly closed. The nice security staff Victor came to pick me up in his golf cart and still allowed me to go outside for a bit just to sit and enjoy the view but it was dark with nothing to see, nothing to drink, and no one to socialize with. We came back the next day during the afternoon for a snack. The reviews said the view was better than the food, but tbh the view was also subpar imo. The restaurant is located on the top of a hill, which provides a good vantage point, but the view itself feels like the "back" of Santa cruz so it just wasn't much to look at. The nicer patio area of the outdoor restaurant area with lights and such was closed off for "private events" so I couldn't even take some nice photos there. The food was definitely not worth the prices, and service was quite slow. There was so much staff inside, but only one helping us sitting outside. *parking is $20 a night but they do have tesla chargers *the foodtruck next to the pool area was never open during our stay Overall, I would come back using my chase points, bring a pup with me, opt for a room with more privacy, and probably spend half my time at the spa.
