Pros: Thank heavens for a dedicated gluten free restaurant. I cannot thank the owners of this place enough for that. The food is delicious as well. I had the Mexican salad and a brownie and my husband had one of their toasts and a cookie. Loved it! Cons: I wish there were more vegan options. Many Celiacs are intolerant or allergic (my case) to dairy. I saw gazpacho on the menu but then was bummed to see that yoghurt was added to the gazpacho. Never in my decades of travel to Spain have I ever seen gazpacho with dairy. The only bread that is vegan there was sold out on the day I went and there are only two desserts that are dairy/egg free. I would just think that a restaurant that caters to a dietary need would be aware that many with this condition can't have other highly allergenic foods like dairy and egg. But we will happily go back because the benefit of having a safe place to eat for a celiac outweighs any of the cons. read more

This one is def a cute little cafe in Mill Valley and I really wanted to give it more stars, but just not today. I have come to this place a couple times and was really hoping that the 2nd time would have been better than the first, but that didn't happen. I ordered avocado toast ($8) while my husband got Heather's toast ($8). We both didn't really like our toasts that much. My avocado and herb cream cheese weren't so bad, but somehow it just didn't really go with this type of bread IMO. We also didn't like our drinks. I tried the Turmeric latte and it wasn't so great that I had to ask for a little extra honey and it tasted a little better. My husband didn't like his coffee, either. Besides the taste, don't expect latte art because they don't do it here. The seating area was really limited and we couldn't go outside because of the pouring rain. There were only a few table and we had to share a table with other customers, so I kept getting elbowed by the one sitting next to me. Sadly, no one came to wipe the table and we had to do it ourselves. Still give this place 3 stars though because I admired the decor and that they are using eco-friendly stuff and have some nice merch. read more

Yay for everything being gluten free! And Yay for gluten free breads that taste great! Yay for them allowing you to make substitutions - even elaborate ones! And now for the boo's. BIG LOUD BOOOOOOOO ! 1) They love plastic, toxic, single-use plastic. It's everywhere in this bakery including that their breads (available in a self serve area) are WRAPPED IN PLASTIC WHILE THE BREAD WAS HOT OR WARM OUT OF THE OVEN! Even at lunch time, hours after baking and wrapping they are still warm to the touch! WTF indeed! Do I really need to explain who bad and toxic this is? USE PAPER BAGS like bread is sold at the grocery store! 2) And more toxic single-use plastic, this time as containers for the self serve area for grab-and-go salads and so on. Come on! Enough of your landfill! Gluten free and organic mean nothing if you continue to do this! HELLO . . .you can get containers that can be composted! A shame because they look good, but the flavor and dryness is such a turn off. Their pound cake is often not bone-dry. 4) The last time I was there which was a prime time lunch time (12:45) they had run of washable cutlery. A snippy young miss at the counter barked at me and said they were in the dishwasher, she had no idea when they would be done, and that I could use wood forks and spoon. But! I don't like wood against my teeth or the taste (and wood, how sustainable is that?) You can get pleasing to the mouth and it is compostable from the source I gave you already. I usually bring my own made from bronze but the last time I was there it was a spur-of-the-moment thing and I was unprepared. Super cute location, line out of the door. I had the avocado toast with a chai. The toast was good however the chili flakes were a bit overwhelming and I should have spread it over the bread. The bread is pretty filling as well. The chai was great and I enjoyed it. I do want to say that I loved that my GF friend was able to order anything she wanted without worrying and that was awesome. read more

After a rainy hike in Muir woods, we needed something warm and sweet before heading back to our hotel, so we looked up the closest bakery and Flour Craft Mill Valley showed up. We went there with zero expectations, and we were pleasantly surprised with how delicious and cute the bakery was. They were close to closing (we got there around 4:15 and they close at 5), but the lady was so sweet and patient with us. They do close their kitchen an hour before they close their bakery, so if you go after 4 you can still get their baked goods and coffees, just not their toasts or anything that requires the kitchen. I got the small Café Au Lait, which was a good size and really tasty. I also ordered a coffee cake and it was amazing! Overall, it's an adorable shop with great coffee and desserts and would recommend for people to stop by here! read more

Today was my second visit to Flour Craft Bakery. While I waited for a customer to complete his order which took about 5 minutes since he moved from the cashier to make selection(s) and returned, I was holding an almond sourdough bread in my hands. I intended to purchase the bread together with some pastries for my daughter and husband. I also intended to get an avocado toast for myself. Most unexpectedly the cashier leaned over and told me the sourdough almond bread was not available for me, because it was sold. I was taken by surprise since it was available in the basket and it was in my hand for close to five minutes! I chose not to have a debate on consumer rights and the fact that the bread was on display to be purchased. I purchased the pastries and an orange squeeze drink, since my daughter had selected same and was sitting outside with her baby. When I was asked by the cashier if that was my full order, I said I changed my mind about additional items. I just could not eat anything from Flour Craft again. I was too upset to eat even though it was my intention to have a sandwich and further it was lunch time and I did not have breakfast. The action by the cashier reflected poorly on the business. I would usually leave a tip, but I did not leave one because the experience was so upsetting. read more

I was really excited to try this place. But after ordering I was terribly annoyed by the beepers they provide to people sitting around me. They are intrusive to the nice beautiful setting!!! Wondering if these could be changed to a quiet shaking? Honestly the sound really offended me. Probably won't return. Also. The scones and galette were super dry! read more

Flour Craft is a delight! Everything is gluten free and it is just a given, no big deal. I love that. We tried the chocolate chip banana bread, the raspberry almond scone and the blueberry lemon scone. All were moist, delicious and not overly sweet. Perfect. The large latte coffee actually has 4 shots, not just lots of milk. The green tea was wonderful. The staff were warm and professional. We sat outside in the sunshine to enjoy our treat. Our new favorite spot! read more

This location is insanely cute in what looks like a revamped train station. I knew some things would be gluten free, but I didn't realize the entire cafe was gluten free!!!! I got an ipek faced sandwich that tasted like healthy heaven. A light herbed creme cheese on it made all the flavors pop. Mind you, this sandwich was on gluten free FOCACCIA. Which they sell!! I got their turmeric latte and it tastes like fall. They have a full case of GF pastries and goodies that I fully intend on purchasing after my good digests. Please come to santa rosa!! read more

Fully enjoyed our visit here after a bike ride. This place's outdoor seating made it really shine during Covid time - everything was spaced pretty far apart to make it feel safe. 5+ stars for location alone and I'm sure what they have is delicious, but I've now walked in this place twice now with high hopes and left disappointed without ordering a thing. So much potential but they have seriously missed the mark. My 11 year old daughter and I came in to try and have a quick lunch bite and even though she is not a picky eater at all, there was absolutely nothing that was geared towards kids (really in this town??). My partner and I also tried stopping here on our Sunday morning breakfast date and again, couldn't find anything that fit the bill even though they clearly had "Breakfast" painted on their window. Salads, cold tartines from the case (they wouldn't warm it up for me and hot ones don't start until 11am?!), and over fancy avocado toast just wasn't going to do it. Honestly, the solution would be so simple! Have one or two kid friendly options and throw an egg on top of one of your avocado toasts and voila, you have something there. They are going to have to make a few tweaks before seeing true success in this location. read more

Yikes: beware the awful customer service and exorbitant up charges at the Mill Valley location. I absolutely love Flour Craft, and usually go to the San Anselmo location where they employ wonderful people, with the same awesome product at MV. Today I was in Mill Valley, so I went to the Lumber Yard location, and made the mistake of ordering a hot water. The blonde woman at the counter said "Ok, it's $1.00" Me: For hot water? Her: Yes. Because it comes out of our machine. Me: Oh, I mean, I can grab my own container if it's about the cup? Her: No it's because it comes out of our machine. [points to generic coffee machine] Me: Don't you think that's a little expensive for water? Her: Thats how my boss wants us to charge people. Because of the machine. Me: Okay well I'm... not going to do that. Her: Ok great, thanks! Now, the owner is lovely, and I think she does a great job of pricing all her food. Where else in Marin can you get an open faced smoked salmon sandwich on GF bread for $10? Honestly it's amazing. I do however have some questions about the markup on hot water/ the magical machine that it's coming out of (which, if you need to charge $1 per 16 oz, hardly seems worth it). Putting the policy aside, the incredibly rude customer service experience makes me want to flee the lumber yard and never return. The woman guarding the hot water tap like Cerberus, does not care about the customer experience at all. FC San Anselmo does not charge for hot water, so it makes me feel like It makes me feel like this is a location specific markup? Which feels ... gross. I understand that many Mill Valley residents can afford this $1 hot unicorn water, but I am not one of them, nor do I think this is a reasonable price for hot water coming out of the same coffee machine that they have at every Best Western and Holiday Inn Express in the continental US. TLDR: be ready to pony up for what must be the single greatest hot water experience of your life. read more

I had the pleasure of enjoying a $4 blackberry earl gray scone this afternoon. It was quite a sensation for being gluten free! The texture was more delicate and melt-in-the-mouth than your standard scone, and it crumbled into finer pieces, almost like refined polenta. The only disappointment was finding only 2 blackberries within the scone. Even though I don't care about being GF, I would come here again! read more

My teenage son is quick to point out that he could buy a loaf of bread and an avocado and make his own toast for less than 8 dollars...True, but would it be homemade, thick, warm, GF walnut bread that doesn't taste like cardboard? Doubt it. I'm a working class, single mom. Generally all of that concentrated Mill Valley wealth gives me hives. But I gave this place a shot because my son has Celiac disease, and eating the same old GF stuff gets old. I walked out having big appreciation for Flour Craft. The entire kitchen is GF, they have a great selection and it tastes good, like- moist, spongy, complex flavor - good. Thanks Flour Craft! Everything is excellent. Most recently, i had the sourdough waffle and was in heaven. The sourdough is such a nice contrast to the strawberries and curd it was served with. My coworker had the toast with brie (and other amazing things) which was also incredible. The toast and waffle were both crispy outside and warm, moist and chewy inside. So, so good. I also took home a loaf of walnut bread which I found myself proclaiming, "soooooo good" as I ate. Such wonderful texture, made gorgeous toast with it. What else can I say? Today, my dear friend and I met for lunch. It was an unexpected rainy day, no seats available as we walked in but kept my eye on a table and once the person got up, got it and I ordered a delicious lunch. We began with the avocado toast with whipped ricotta, followed by a butternut squash soup and then ended with a mouth watering kale and quinoa salad w/goat cheese, butternut squash, almonds in a lemon cumin vinegarette. Talked into the waffles by the nice cashier but that's were the good experience ended. I waited for over 30 minutes before I saw the waffles come out in boxes and just sit there. I finally walked up to the person manning the pick up area to ask about them about the order and they said "oh yeah these are yours". My buzzer never went off. I asked if they could be plated, and the person said no, this is how we serve them. I pointed out that the people behind me, sitting right there, had their food plated and the person sighed and reluctantly handed over 2 plates. I walked my plates and waffles back to the cafe to ask if they could be plated. This request was met with deep dissatisfaction and eye rolling by the team.... Unfortunately the waffles weren't even good. Extra star for the scone that was quite good. Won't eat off the menu again. read more

I am surprised that there are so many complaints here... I LOVED this place and I'm obsessed with the idea of coming back. People who don't *need* to eat gluten-free have no idea how it feels to be able to taste tender, delicious pastries that you haven't had in years, with no worries about cross-contamination. We had savory scones, the corn muffin, and the cinnamon roll, which was honestly better than any regular cinnamon roll I can remember!! The staff is always rude and they close unexpectedly before they're supposed to and stop serving food a half an hour before the posted close time. We were there a good 25 minutes before they're posted close time and they turned away a lot of business there were three or four other parties besides us who would've had food and coffees and they turned us all away read more

They "close" at 3:00. I called and they said this means they quit serving at 2:30. However, got there at 2 and we got the plastic non-environmentally sound plastic containers with no other option. Much prefer to eat on a plate! My friend ordered a latte - got a macha. I ordered something that said it had an omelette on it - I was told it was an omelette, but just pressed in a waffle machine. Instead, I got two hash brown waffles. At 3:00, before done eating, we were told that they needed us to move because they needed to store the chairs. Since neither of us liked the food, most of our it (and their lovely plastic containers) went into the garbage. Two stars are for this: (1) beautiful location they are lucky enough to have; (2) I've had a good tartine in the past. I may try it again ... but really early ... there is lots of competition for a good lunch. read more

This is quite possibly the most rude and unacceptable service I have ever seen in an establishment that should inherently be compassionate toward making accommodations for those with dietary restrictions. Never coming here again nor would I ever recommend this place to a friend looking for gluten free which is a shame. The woman with shorter brown hair making drinks on Sunday afternoon was terse and shouldn't be working in hospitality. I couldn't count how many eye rolls were given in such a short span of time. In the past I personally have worked for some of the top cafes in NY and LA, and have never seen such ridiculous carelessness in service, especially on a busy Sunday a day which is expected to have more foot traffic. They also replaced ingredients of my dish, due to them running out, without letting me know before it was made which is ANOTHER concern for those who have other allergies. I had been visiting the Bay Area for a few days and went out of my way to try this place among a few others. I strongly do not recommend going here if you are gluten free (I am celiac) and want a pleasant experience. Go to Honey Hi or Gjusta in LA and make a special trip because no where in the Bay Area seems to truly know what they're doing when it comes to this realm. Response to your comment: as it says in my review I have the correct restaurant and was visiting. The beverage person had their hair pulled back and I vaguely remember her wearing a bandana so the description may be inaccurate but this review is indeed for your location. I never questioned your gluten free kitchen (as you can also see in my review) but instead was bothered by the lack of care in switching ingredients without consultation to the dish being made, regardless of the ingredient. You claim you never do this but this was blatantly done in an unapologetic manner, when I ordered the salmon toast it came out with trout. I am aware I suggested other restaurants at that distance because of how awful this experience was. I deleted my comment on the other location and didn't block you because I corrected my location mistake. Please reread my review for there is no reason for confusion. It seems as if you didn't actually comprehend the problems at hand for all your responses are comments on your misreading of my original review. Please take responsibility for your staff and their rapport with customers who are NOT ONLY celiac but might also have other dietary restrictions. This complex has a lot of outdoor seating, covered and open; it is really a lovely setting right in the middle of town. We arrived too early for salads and other items. I'm not into starchy scones and breads for breakfast, but did have one of those types of items and a matcha latte. The scone was good and so was the latte. read more

Gluten free everything! I have only tried the Mill Valley location so far but understand the San Anselmo site is also completely gluten free. There is a great variety to chose from and weekly specials as well. They are very busy, often with a long line, and I tend to order a lot because don't live nearby. They put everything in a taped box which makes checking the contents difficult because there's not really space to do so. I've found twice some items I've paid for were missing. It is frustrating to find out later that the order is incomplete. Each time I reached out to them and they credited my account but I would have preferred to have items I ordered and not to have to take the extra time and effort to rectify the situation. I'll try to check my order before rushing home in the future:) I really enjoy the food and my family appreciates they have delicious vegan options. I stopped in today and had their delicious blackberry scone. I worked in Food & Beverage for twenty years and I always check out how the staff are going about their day. The employee taking my order at the register could not have seemed more disinterested in her job had she tried. Maybe, she was having a bad day? Maybe, she is just over her job? This is a cute restaurant with lots of outdoor seating and a variety of GF pastries. My friends and I tried the winter salad, a toast and some pastries. They were all delicious!
