Flour Craft is very cute ,and as a baker trained at the Cordon Bleu in Paris, I still enjoy at the tasty gluten free items served here. They are light and tasty! I bake at home with regular flour but the results at Flour Craft do not disappoint. The other menu items for breakfast and lunch are delicious as well. The granola is addictive as well. The only item sorely lacking is their coffee, which is tasteless and weak. Maybe a change of bean would help. read more

Alright, I have to admit that I was very skeptical upon hearing that a gluten free bakery is setting up shop in Mill Valley. Don't get me wrong, I think this town desperately needs a good bakery, but I was hoping for a more traditional kind where I could buy traditional pastries...and not this gluten-free stuff, which to me was yet another American fad. Well, a couple months after opening and 4 visits later, I think I have to adjust my opinion: I'm a fan...somewhat. Still don't think that a gluten-free only bakery is necessary, but the items that I've tasted during my various visits are tasty and they have convinced me that not every baked good need to contain wheat flower. My favorite item so far has been the pistachio pound cake, which I tried on two occasions. Aside from the tasty offerings, the atmosphere is both lovely and lively; I especially like sitting on of the many tables on the outside. Mill Valley was certainly missing that. My one pet-peeve now is the whole one-time usage/grab-and go containers. I'm not sure about the recycleability of these, but on every visit I've just seen too many people carrying tray loads full of snacks and other food items out of the bakery and sitting down with them at a table. read more

We are not gluten free, but everything here is so good that we would be if we lived nearby! The pastries are delicious - very moist and flavorful. Our favorite is the walnut coffee cake, but we also enjoyed the pistachio poundcake and walnut pumpkin cake as well. The coffee and tea drinks are good as well - the chai has a nice spice to it and the London fog is well balanced, not too sweet. It does get pricy if you get almond milk ($5-6 for the tea drink, add $1.75-2.50 for almond milk) but for a nice treat it's enjoyable. The outdoor seating area is great- plenty of tables, shady, and a really cool old tree stump nearby. read more

First time going and I got the Stinson tartine with a soft boiled egg.... it was the BEST meal I have had in sooo long! Maybe it's just because this is the first restaurant meal I have been able to enjoy that wasn't takeout since COVID-19 hit the Bay Area, but seriously. So amazing. The flavors were rich and the focaccia bread is perfectly crisp so it doesn't get soggy from all the fresh toppings! I felt that the staff was sanitizing everything very well and the outdoor seating is beautiful - with everyone keeping a safe distance. My one criticism was that the cashier seemed a bit pissed off and quite snappy, but we have all been having hard and stressful days recently, hopefully it was just one of those days! read more

A quaint little bakery in Mill Valley! We grabbed the Blackberry Earl Grey Scone, Hazelnut Brownie, Pistachio Pound Cake, and Lattes with oat milk. The pound cake was the best item out of everything we got. The other two bakery items did not taste like the particular flavors they were advertised as... they tasted like a plain scone and brownie. Their latte was decent. Initially we got charged for the scone, but they did not put it in our bag, so we had to ask for it. Prices are reasonable, especially with their latte being only $4.25 with oat milk and $3.50 with regular milk. read more

Stopped by because my family and I were in the area. Mediocre cafe. Matcha latte was very bland and the savory sourdough waffle was cooked partly, the insides were still mushy. The only thing thing was was decent was the lemon pound cake but even that seemed to come out of the refrigerator because it was cold. Staff was ehhhh as well. The owner (as a I recognize from the paper clipping on the wall) was very standoffish, might have been the coronavirus pandemic but who knows. Kinda rude to her employee as she told her to "move" so she could hand my waffle to me, which wasn't necessary because I could have waited the mere 10 secs until the employee stepped out of the way. read more

I can't believe I haven't taken the time to review Flower Craft in Mill Valley. I cannot tell you how much I love to go there. Don't let the name fool you, this is not just for gluten-free needs or vegan desserts, although you'll find all of those there, this is just a phenomenal bakery. First thing in the the morning you want to try what I call the fancy toast. She has the "basics" like sourdough walnut high protein bread with walnut butter and orange marmalade, and avocado toast with ricotta and chili flakes, but there's always something amazing to try that's on special. One of the specials right now is a country white toast with ricotta, lavender honey and an apple pear compote, topped with hazelnuts (I sub for pumpkin seeds). To drink they have beer, wine and champagne, oh and equator coffee, turmeric lattes, etc. If you're real lucky, it will be the weekend and Heather will make her famous raspberry or blueberry lemonade. For lunch, (11AM to 3PM) they have the best salads in town. All produce is locally sourced and organic, and Flower Craft always takes advantage of what's in peak season. They also have Tartine's with a small salad on the side, which is usually my favorite pick for lunch. Oh and let's not forget this is a bakery. I haven't a vegan bone in my body, but every day they have different vegan donuts, today's was Apple Spice, and they are always fabulous. The scones are another specialty of Flour Craft. They have blackberry earl grey, blueberry lemon, and raspberry almond, and for the season, I've been seeing walnut pumpkin. Lastly, when you're running late for work, it's a perfect place to grab a quick coffee and a scone. Plus, they will have tartines and salads in the cooler freshly packed up to take for lunch. (Grab the Vegan Taco Salad if you'd like a recommendation.) P.S. It's all in a great historic location. Perfect place to come and relax...but still have WiFi to work. read more

If you follow a gluten-free diet, you will be in heaven at this totally gluten-free bakery and cafe. A wide variety of gluten-free products are available: granola, sandwich bread, quiche, cupcakes, pastries, cakes, cookies, brownies...and I'm sure I'm missing a few! Vegan salads (and non-vegan dishes) are also available. Plus: Beer! Oh coffee and tea and all that, too. OK, I love the concept, but...does it taste good? Oh my gosh yes (so far). We had the lemon pound cake (so moist, so lemony, plus a smooth vanilla in there somewhere); a blackberry-Earl Grey scone (cinnamony and great texture); and a raspberry almond scone (moist from the raspberries with plenty of toasted almonds). In short, thumbs up. I'd buy all of these items again (and if I had to choose one, it would be the lemon pound cake). My SO (who is picky and disdainful about the whole gluten-free thing) said it was "the best scone I've had in a long time" (which is high praise from him). He offered to eat the other scone as well. Nice try... The setting is wonderful. Today (grand opening), the line snaked out the door, but there are seats (with heaters!) for the grown-ups and corn hole games set up for kids. I can't imagine a nicer place in Mill Valley to stop at after a hike or bike ride. Some people avoid gluten as a preference, but for those with a celiac diagnosis, a bakery can be a source of stress rather than comfort. Atmosphere: This gluten free bakery in the recently renovated Lumber Yard is a beautiful addition to downtown Mill Valley. The space is open and airy with an indoor sitting room filled with a community table and chairs and bright outdoor space complete with cornhole. They do have wifi but I would not recommend planning a work day here just yet as the indoor space is usually full with people eating and catching-up. Food: I'm usually hesistant when it comes to gluten-free foods but my overall experience with Flour Craft has been very positive. The scones may be my favorite and come in three flavors - Raspberry & Almond, Blackberry & Earl Gray, and Blueberry & Lemon. They are light with a beautfiul complexity of flavors (especially the Raspberry & Almond) and most importantly not dry! It was more than worth the drive from the East Bay. The town (and surrounding) was really cute and seemed a great place to hang out for a few hours on your way to explore the great outdoors. I have been a consistent, loyal customer to Flour Craft since their San Anselmo inception. I have enjoyed their brownies, scones, and savory toasts for many years, especially in the earlier years. When quality seemed to be inconsistent or wanting, I have reached out and spoke with the owner. She was always appreciate of the feedback, and change seemed to happen... for a time being. However, I feel I no longer can support Flour Craft. Not only am I frustrated by their practices of charging for hot water *even when presented with the customers own CLEAN vessel*, and charging for any *extra* asked for (butter,milk in coffee, etc.) but their bakery items are now consistently "average". The scones are consistently "inconsistent", often being too dry (I think from adding WAY too much baking powder to the recipe) while being undercooked with little browning and large amount of spread. They are often comparable to Starbucks scones, I'm afraid. The toasts are piled mile high with toppings, but often piled on top of each other making one side mushy. Not appealing. Their other pastry items look tired and dry as well, and whenever I have asked about how fresh their brownies are, I consistently get a reply of "baked a couple of days ago". My intent of writing this review is to give my own review in hopes that better quality can come from Flour Craft, and return to its roots of serving quality over profit. read more

This gluten free bakery serves Equator Coffee so I had to check it out. It wasn't as good as what you will get at a real cafe, but very good for a bakery. The scones are great. You would not even know they are gluten free. The ambiance is nice, I had a great time poking around the other shops in this little center. Cakes, scones, cookies, breads etc. delish!!! It is great going to the Mill Valley store because you can grab a wonderful breakfast, lunch, or just a scone and coffee and go and sit at a courtyard table amongst the redwoods and enjoy the local ambiance while treating yourself to a yummy meal. Food is tasty. Prices are outrageous. Attitude at both locations has mostly sucked. The staff has been primarily unfriendly and unhelpful. They have a very Marin attitude- I.e. it's a bother to acknowledge customers, let alone provide any assistance. Ask to have something wrapped (their bread goes stale within hours) and receive eye rolls and annoyed looks. Hey, when you're paying $$$ for a piece of focaccia, wrapping it should be the norm, not tossing it uncovered into a paper bag. And what's the deal with the phone? Nobody answers. It goes directly to VM where customers are instructed to leave a message. Yeah, when I'm driving from the East Bay to buy something, I'm not going to rely on chance that it's available that day. Frankly, I don't get it. I've never seen a big crowd at either location. More often than not the places are empty and the counterperson is standing there doing nothing when I come in. So how hard is it to answer the phone? Maybe they're nicer to those wearing designer organic cotton and driving Tesla SUVs. read more
