Flowers Bakery Cafe smelled of deliciousness when I stepped foot in the door. My mouth seriously started to water! They had a fair amount of cakes ready to go and a bunch of mini assorted pastries/cake slices/baked goods in their cases. I couldn't decide between the chocolate eclair and bread pudding (one of my favs!), so I asked the guy behind the container which one he recommended. Of course he didn't give me an answer and said both are tasty. Come on now, give me your opinion...you know I'm going to purchase at least one of them! I decided on the chocolate eclair since it seemed to be calling out my name more. Hmmm...maybe I should have got the bread pudding instead. I was over it in two bites...wasn't into the filling. Although I didn't quite enjoy my dessert, I'd go back to try another mini dessert or even purchase one of their cakes for a special occasion. Pastries are always delicious but very poor service and rude cashiers. Managers are never around so the staff doesn't really care if you have to wait twenty minutes in line or leave. Hope the owners do a better job training the staff or people are just not going to go there anymore. That was my last visit after 12 years. read more

We were having dinner company and needed to pick up something for dessert so we decided to try Flowers Bakery. We got there on Saturday afternoon and there was still a large selection of cakes, pies, some cookies, and other sweets. There were a few people in the shop, including a couple browsing through an album of cake photos (planning a wedding maybe?). We decided to try a few slices of different desserts and selected white chocolate, Grand Marnier, chocolate mocha cakes, and key lime pie. They were all fresh and very good, though I can't say I noticed much difference between the Grand Marnier and the chocolate cakes. I thought the best of the 4, maybe because I don't like things too sweet, was the key lime pie, nicely tart and exceptionally good. They don't have any breads or rolls, and though they have breakfast sandwiches "as of now" no other meal options. The staff was pleasant and said that everything is baked in house. We don't need desserts for everyday meals but will go back when we need something for dinner guests. read more

We went for a birthday cake there. They had a wonderful selection of both larger and smaller cakes. They all looked beautiful, and the one that we bought tasted fantastic. They seem to have plenty in stock, we didn't have to call ahead. The price was reasonable. The service was friendly and efficient, and they wrote Happy Birthday on the cake while we were waiting. Went for a run nearby on the Matthew Henson trail early Saturday morning... got a craving for chocolate mousse because I'm 25 weeks preggo... picked up the smallest dark chocolate mousse cake available because it was just for me... then added in a fruit tart at the last minute because WHY NOT?! BEST DECISION EVER. The fruit tart was the best I've ever had and the chocolate mousse cake completely hit the spot. Now I have to decide whether to share my cake or enjoy a slice every day for the rest of the week... I will definitely be back!! Can't wait to try all the other cakes!! YUMMMMM!! This bakery is a hidden gem! Their cakes are amazingly delicious! I have been to two, sweet 15s with cakes from here and they are so good and beautiful! So I tried it out myself, to see what the customer service would be like, how informative they are and if the cake would turn out the way I wanted for my baby shower. Customer service was great! The ladies that work there are super polite and friendly and if you have any more questions the head bakery chef comes out and answers any questions you have and specifications about the cake. And the theme of our baby shower Was Royal with different shades of pink, and the cake turned out BEAUTIFUL! I was so in love with the cake! And so were my guest, they all said it was delicious! One person even asked me where was the really cake! Just to clarify we pick a chocolate marble and tres leches cake. We also got our cake delivered, which was an extra charge, but I totally recommend it if your doing any time of event, so that it is one less stress to think about. For the location it's the only decent bakery in the area, that's the only reason I'm giving them 3 stars. However it's overpriced and the workers are not nice. I have gotten a few cakes here when I was in a pinch for somewhere close by, but every time I leave feeling like I spent way too much for not enough. I also wished they had at least some gluten free options, at least some bakeries have a cookie or brownie. Not a good seating area to relax and enjoy your treats. Parking is horrible! read more

Absolutely exceptional bakery, delicious deserts that you will not want to share. The only problem you will have is not enough money or developing diabetes from your addiction. We ordered a decorated cake for a birthday. It was not ready when promised and two clerks gave differing times for the wait. Decoration was amateurish as best. Piping was irregular and runny. The figure on the cake was loosely drawn and filled in a random fashion. For the price I expected much better work. Grocery store bakeries do better for half the price. I have always enjoyed the cakes at Flowers Bakery Cafe. They have amazing flavor and the cakes always look beautiful, but ~~ when I made an appointment for a wedding cake inquiry and tasting for my wedding cake they were so unprofessional. The girls at the front of the store would lie to me saying the baker will be available at a certain time when he isn't. I drove to the bakery for my first appointment thinking he would be there and I am told "the baker will be back in 1 hour, he had an emergency but if you would like to wait, he said he will be back?" than 10 min later says "oh he is not feeling well and he won't be coming back to the bakery." Than I rescheduled my appointment to the following week after asking what times he will be available. I am told he will be available at 11:00am for the rescheduled date. The day comes, I call the baker directly this time beforehand so that I don't make the same mistake again and says he has to be somewhere at 11:30 and won't be available for my appointment. If you make an appointment with a customer you should keep it. I will not be recommending this bakery for wedding cake services. I will go and buy a cake for a small party that I may be hosting but definitely not recommending for a big occasion. read more

This is my go to bakery if I'm in need of a birthday cake the day of. It's tucked away in a corner of a shopping plaza. So can be a bit hard to find. The bakery isn't fancy at all and looks family owned but the cakes are very good and on the pricier side. They also have pastries as well but I mainly go there for their pre-made cakes. So far I have gotten their tres leches, strawberry shortcake, and mango cake (which seemed to be their popular one, since they have pics of it posted all over thier store front). They are all good. Cake is very moist and the icing is not too sweet at all (which I love). They will also write a message on the cake if you want them to. Very fast service. In and out in few mins. read more

let me just say we use to have the best bakery ever right in Aspen Hill and those of you who have lived anywhere in Montgomery county knew Radfords. I have 5 girls and they made every birthday cake for years, not ordinary ones, Mickey Mouse, Raggedy Ann and Andy, Snow White, etc and I didn't have to take out a second mortgage on the house. Housers in Twinbrook was great too especially for Special cakes. I went to Flowers because my neighbor was having a gathering so I decided to bring a German Chocolate Cake, they didn't have one so I got something else. I could not believe the prices. I finally decided on one that would do and paid over $55.00 for the cake. This shoppe is way too expensive. Now before anyone screams I was married to a baker, not just any baker his. Family owns Otterbeins and Simons in the Baltimore area, very well known look them up in the Newspaper articles or see their sought after sugar cookies in The Giant. They have a devoted following. A cake costing that much would be a two tier Wedding, Christening etc one. A young fellow waited on me very nice but there was a woman n the store giving some poor man a very hard time.
