A lovely place to relax with a beverage. Great decor, perfect music that's not too loud, green living things. And a very kind barista today who has a very soft-spoken voice. I could come here often! I got a yummy cheddar jalapeño scone with their special seasonal latte with gorgeous foam. Thank you!!!

Nova Coffee has a clean and beautiful interior. It's a cozy spot to hide out during a cloudy/rainy day like today. Unfortunately, their coffee was just your average joe. I came here with a friend who ordered a lavender latte, but could not taste the lavender at all. I tried their pecan sticky bun which was quite filling and tasty. Would stop by if I was in the area and in desperate need for coffee. But I would likely turn to other places if I was looking for quality craft coffee.

I love finding a local coffee shop that has character. This place, perched on a street corner just a block or two from the main road, was filled with a bunch of locals, some working, some relaxing. I ordered a latte with soy milk. It had great flavor and was served in a ceramic cup, which always improves the flavor. We also ordered toast and a local jam, I think it was marionberry. Just right to complement the coffee. Parking here can be a little bit of a challenge unless you get lucky and find a space close by. If you don't mind walking a few blocks, you shouldn't have any problem finding a spot. If you want to check out the local coffee vibe in a clean and modern space, Nova Coffee will definitely suit you.

Ok, I forgot to take the photo before I started to eat ... but at least the toast wasn't completely gone!

My toast with butter and jam was great and the Americano was ok. I saw a lot of people drinking green tea lattes or matcha (maybe a specialty). Had I know this before ordering, I'd probably followed everyone else, but instead I had a small Americano. I'm not a fan of the beans they use, as my Americano had a bitter taste, which I don't care for. Might not notice that in a latte. The jam that comes with the toast is yummy. I think it said loganberry. They have an avocado toast but I didn't see anyone eating it. There's not a ton of seating. We had to pull up a small bench as a third chair at a two person table for the third member of our party. Barista was very courteous, but not really fast. She was working alone, so there's that. If I'm in the area again, I'd definitely try a green tea latte.

Indoors. Great vibes and lots of windows/natural light!

Stopped in on a rainy day. Coffee was good and the space is open and full of natural light. They also have vegan cinnamon rolls! 10/10 recommend!

Wicked cute coffee shop in a recently-completed apartment building. I'd give the coffee 4.5/5 and service 4/5. Barista was extremely friendly and nailed the order! Ordered two cardamom lattes (hot) for a chilly October day and walked away happy. I can see myself coming here to get some work done when it reopens for indoor seating. As the building's name implies (Hygge), it is quite cozy!

Nova is a ok. Solid little joint and a really good place to hang out at. I had a cappuccino which I would put up against any Seattle coffee house any day. Nice atmosphere and really friendly staff. Make sure to check it out next time you cruise through Portland!

When I don't know what to do with my day, or I have work to catch up on, I go to Tov and go from there. Drink-wise, I often go for a Mucho Caliente, the "Mushit," a mushroom-based chai invention, or a Rose Mocha. I've had mochas all over and none compares to the way Joe and his staff concoct the drinks at Tov. The chocolatey-ness, viscosity, mouthfeel, flavor, sippability, sweetness, always satisfy my palate, and the balance of coffee to other flavors is always to my preference. Their drinks are decadent and may take a bit longer to make than expected, and I find it is well worth the wait. I enjoy getting comfortable on Joe's very colorful red cushions, taking in the purple Egyptian vibes within and the eccentric vibrancy that is Hawthorne outside. Fun fact: Joe doesn't believe in plain old ice, and instead he freezes cubes of milk! The cubes stratify into discrete layers that are fun to crunch through, reminiscent of the layers of baklava. Very enjoyable for someone who normally avoids ice or chewing on ice.

Lots of people hanging out in the shop, some working, some talking, but it seemed like a good spot to get some stuff done. There was music playing that set a welcoming mood. Located on Hawthorne just past the curve at 50th, they've got plenty of free street parking in the nearby blocks. They don't have much external signage but they do have a lot of outdoor streetside seating, so it makes you wonder what everyone else knows. Inside, they've got Coava coffee, efficient staff, and an old-school cafe vibe. The intentions were genuine and things have progressed in a way where Albina Press is one of the most recognized coffee brands in the city. It's not too dissimilar from its OG sister location in North Portland (#3), where they still brew high quality caffeinated drinks with the vibes of a homey communal space with chairs, couches, and individual tables for a proper coffee date, WFH worthy WiFi, and plenty of anti-war propaganda in the self-serve water area in the back. The latte art was on point, the cold brew was most definitely strong, cafe au lait was milky and foamy in the best way, and the americano drinks were fabulous. While their hours (#4) aren't particularly suited for after-work hours, they do an excellent job of keeping their space clean and the vibes low key throughout the morning and afternoon. Prices are good for Portland standards. Most drinks are $5 and under, even for the largest sizes. The limited but high quality pastry selection is also appreciated. The service was good overall, just be certain with the order and don't be afraid to ask for recommendations. Lines can happen, albeit rarely, and I would encourage most folks to drink the coffee on the spot. The space is part of the experience (be weary of the restrooms tho), so enjoy the low key ambiance with a drinkable jumpstart to the day. Their shop is very curated and is definitely has a "recently here because of gentrification vibe." However, I know it's been in Portland for a while and locals swear by it. With shops like these I find it easy to focus and work. The minimalist and industrial decor is a great place for adhd brains like mine. I was warmly greeted by someone at the register. I was interested in so many choices on their matcha. Horchata iced coffe, orange latte, strawberry Ube matcha. I asked the barista if they do exchanges or remakes for drink if the customer dislikes what they ordered. She mentioned they have a NO REMAKES policy. I knew it was time to lock in instead of trying something Willynilly. She was super patient with me as I wondered what to get and discussed my hesitations. She let me sample a tiny amount of the strawberry uber syrup and lavender to make my decision and it helped. I ended up getting and iced lavender matcha and didn't regret it at all. It's been hard for me to find good matcha in Portland and they didn't disappoint. The syrup was blended in well. The flavor of the matcha wasn't too grassy, bitter or powdery. I'm sad it's a seasonal drink because I'll Miss it. I also got an almond croissant, which was good but not mind blowing. I think I'll try the banana bread next time. They have a bathroom, 1 booth, bench seating and wall seating. It would be a bit of a challenge to bring a group larger than 3 here as they're small and busy. Maybe if you sat outside.
