I love the atmosphere because it has a Cajun feel. My friend had fried oysters and fried fish. She thought it was average. The hush puppies above average. I had jambalaya. Again, I am picky and can eat around things. However, it could be called okra-laya It was a lot of okra and I thought the portion size wasn't enough. The French bread was on point though. This was the best catfish around for several years. Last few times we have been there some of the pieces of fish tasted bad like it was spoiled. Plus the fish seemed to be fried ahead of time then dipped back in oil for a warm up. The slaw tasted sour our last trip. Not sure whats going on but it is not the same anymore. Wasn't sure what to expect, but the line out the door through the dining area into the counter speaks for itself. Everyone loved their food except for the shrimp, it has that funny chemical treated aftertaste of sodium phosphates that cheaper shrimp can have. I ate my delicious trout almondind and crawfish chowder and decided to finish my wife's plate, as she wouldn't eat it. I really wish I wouldn't have, as that aftertaste took awhile to wear off. Which is the only reason 5 stars wasn't given. My plate was excellent as well as my moms. Great beer selection. Be prepared to wait. Order ahead and walk directly to the counter. Okay so I should technically give 4 stars bc the girl working the front is rude AF. But the food is amazing. I travel all over the states for work and the boiled crawfish and alligator were friggin delicious. But when I called before I went I asked if the crawfish were live, because soooo many places serve frozen. And the girl answering said "ummmmm yeahhhhh, why wouldn't they be? Like are they live when we cook them...yes" in such a condescending tone. And when I got there, I realized it is order at the counter and the cashier girl was who answered. And when I ordered the gator, I asked if they had remoulade, and she said "Ummm yeah that's what they come with." Bish, how am I supposed to know that? And I am always so polite. But anyways.... Ordered 3lbs crawfish and only like 4 were crushed shells. Gator was crispy but tender on the inside, and a lot of places overcook it and it's chewy. Ask for melted butter before hand also. Holt crap is this place good! Make sure you eat here! When I first saw the restaurant selection around town I was skeptical of this place because you order at the counter then sit. But it was by far the best place we ate in Little Rock! It's very affordable seafood and everything we had was excellent. We ordered crawfish boiled, crawfish po boy and the tilapia. The fresh tea and lemonade was a great touch too! The inside is unique and has a "southern" feel, make sure to appreciate the ambience. First stop when visiting Little Rock Arkansas! From the looks of it, they sure do love their catfish and alligator bites around here. We ordered; fried catfish, oyster basket, & shrimp basket (which came with hush puppies), alligator bites, fried pickles, and a Tropical Pineapple Ale from Lost Forty Brewing. Fried Catfish: It was a thin slice of catfish but the batter wasn't too thick so it was a good consistency but I did think it was lacking in flavor *minus 1 star*. That's my only complaint but still think this is a place people should try when visiting Arkansas. Overall, everything from ambience to the customer service was good. The restaurant was clean and the tables were properly socially distanced (they blocked off every other table). One star because we have been here two days and have had nothing but a wonderful experience. But this place.. was nasty. Just NaStY. AND expensive!! Twas a VERY COLD night snow falling down most restaurants closed the entire town looked like a ghost town. BUT this place was open... I know now why. They needed to rob a few outsiders to keep the place afloat. We got the Mahi trash.. I literally have never had worse it was just nasty. No flavor over cooked. Just NO, the zucchini on the plate was like 4 SLIVERS. My poor lover had to get a 2nd dish just to fill full... and THAT was worse! Fried catfish tasted like dirty water. Located in downtown Little Rock next to the Courtyard. They have a very extensive menu and have eaten here several times since it's very convenient to the walk next door from the hotel. The fried catfish is a favorite as well as the po'boy sandwiches. Food is always cooked fresh so expect to wait a bit but worth the wait since the food is not just sitting under a heat lamp. Back to Flying Fish after a long while since I'm going to be in town for a bit. I must confess I wanted to pig out on their All you cat eat catfish and failed horribly. I think the price they have for the all you can eat on Wednesday it's fair. They serve you good and plenty and on my experience the whole staff was so amicable and helpful. Sadly I got stuffed at my first plate and struggled bad to finish the second. The Gods of Gluttony must be really disappointed on me. But overall catfish was fresh and delicious, fries crispy and on point and hush puppies delicious as usual. My only complain might be the tartar sauce could use a tweak here and there. With about a dozen locations, the Flying Fish is a fish and seafood-centric eatery, offering fried, grilled, broiled and steamed fish and seafood, as well as po-boys, gumbo, tacos, and appropriate side dishes. The full menu of the Little Rock location I visited is here. A few salads, chicken strips and a lonely hamburger round out the menu. The Little Rock location is "counter service" - you order back by the kitchen, await your vibrating beeper to go off and then collect your food from another station. Tables at this location are at the front of the restaurant, facing President Clinton Avenue (which runs to the Clinton Presidential Library, within walking distance. This is also the "marketplace section" of downtown, so there are plenty of other distractions nearby. I ordered the two filet catfish basket, which comes with fries and two hush puppies ($9.50). I would have liked some slaw, but lately restaurants seem to think coleslaw has some actual monetary value and charge the same price for it as they would for most any slide, and I object to that. This location has beer, wine, frozen margaritas, and the usual soft drinks, lemonade, iced tea and coffee. I pronounce the experience a success. I've been on a catfish jag lately, and this was great. Crispy, light breading, easy on the corn meal. Pretty ordinary fries, and I can take or leave hush puppies. Something else I'm not sure restaurants should charge for. If you're in one of the dozen cities Flying Fish has planted their flag, I recommend it. Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas only. read more

I was here many years ago when the Peabody hotel had the tour of ducks. The food at Flying Fish was awesome back then, still is today, but I had to cut off a star and a half today. Pretty sure I ordered the same thing both times as I always order fried shrimp and fish, hush puppies, slaw, at all fish dominate restaurants, pretty much the staple as tacos and beans are to Mexican restaurants. Crawfish chowder was excellent, would def have this again. Catfish was pretty good, to me the breading lacked some flavor but it was not a heavy batter which I liked.
