Solid South Indian restaurant in a strip mall - had breakfast here this morning with a colleague. We both ordered madras coffees and dosa's - masala for him and spicy paneer for me. My dosa was delicious and flaky and the coffee hit the spot, and he enjoyed his meal as well. Happy to return.

This was honestly one of the worst experiences I've ever had. The sambar was completely tasteless -- it literally looked and tasted like flavored water. The dosa was awful, with dark, mold-like spots on top that made it impossible to eat. Even the coffee was terrible, and I'm still not sure how someone can mess up something as simple as that. Please avoid this place at all costs. I wish I had.

I love IDLI! Anyone who knows me, who's even remotely close to me knows how much I love idli. When my friends anf family find out that I'm visiting them - they make sure atleast one of my meals is idli. So imagine my excitement to try this place out. I was severely disappointed. The idlis were not worth it. They tasted like these weren't properly fermented. - were a bit hard, the magic on top of idli had no magic at all! Least of all, they didn't honor the yelp code. That's fine - I wouldn't mind over paying if the idlis were good! This was just an epic waste of my time and money. If I could give half a star, I would have.

Ambiance : casual/quick. Was easy for us to find a spot to sit during peak lunch, but the place was pretty busy! Food: food was fresh/hot, but could have been more spicy. We even ordered some of the spiciest options!

They have expanded since my last visit. Last time around I tried the masala dosa, The cheese uttapam and Vada. The dosa was the best of the lot, the Vada was a bit hard, but the sambhar covered up for it, the Uttapam was tasteless n tough. This time around I tried the Rava masala dosa, as the picture to pics it was soggy with minimum flavors, The saving grace was the the coconut chutney and the masala tea!! Along with the quality even the quantity I shrinked down, the sambhar was all but 5 spoons. I really want to come back and try the other South Indian dishes but there is no reason enough for me to drive all the way there.

Thanks for being the only Indian breakfast place in all of Houston. The dosa was delicious and I devoured the Idli. Sambar was different than I'm used to, but tasted amazing. There's nothing like that spice first thing in the morning. Samosas, not pictured, we're a super bonus, flavors on point. Wish it had chutney with it though. This place is nestled in a shopping plaza on Richmond off Gessner and well worth the drive for me. I'll be coming back for the Lunch Thali. Ordered through Yelp via Grub Hub which made it hot, fresh and easy to pick up. Y'all keep making delicious foods and I'll spread the word!

Great dosas and idlis! I tried the magic masala dosa which is stuffed with seasoned potatoes, as well as the healthy oats dosa and the Rava dosa. The dosas were generous in their portions, and came with 2 types of sambar. The idlis were also good--kind of like steamed rice cakes. I didn't think they were as good as the dosas, but I'm unsure of how they're supposed to taste. Would recommend coming back!

We ordered magic masala Dosa, healthy oats Dosa and Rava Dosa. All the dosas tasted amazing. Portions are huge but not for Sambar. Though you can ask for additional sambar. We also ordered 2 idlis since the place is named after idlis - we got one Kanchipuram idli and another one that had potato stuffing. I wasn't happy with the potato one but kanchipuram was nice. Though the place is named after idlis, the owner couldn't suggest a signature idli. The chutney was not what you'd expect a coconut chutney to taste like. Will surely recommend dosas and go back for Dosas.

We were looking g for an authentic chai tea and found this restaurant. The customer service was great! Super friendly and quick. The vibe was so calm and peaceful. We loved the tea! We decided to try Indian food for the first time and loved it! We will be back to try different things next time. They accept card and cash. You order at the front and then pick a table to sit at. You also leave your plates on the table when leaving and they pick up. We weren't sure of that as we looked around for a trash can but saw everyone leave their plates on the table.

Definitely a must try for Idli lovers. I haven't seen so much for variety in Idli in states anywhere else. They have got all the best versions of Idli. Tried magic Idli, blazing fiery idli and healthy oats idli.

This is a decent idli and dosa place in Houston dot surprisingly they are open at 7 AM every day which helps you to get a quick breakfast in the morning. The Idlis are really good and have a lot of variety. Good to try out if you want to have a South Indian breakfast in Houston

Please check this place out! I came here about 6 months ago and it's just as good now as then, if better. They changed the chutney but I like this version better and the Sambar! Holy crap! I am very picky with Sambar unfortunately but this place has the best of any place I've been. So... without further ado, the main review! Food: very good if not the best! Everything has flavor. The fiery Idlis are fiery but I can handle it and so much flavor in each bite. The magic Idlis are my favorite only because I love onions and these have plenty. The stuffed idli were on the more plain side but they are meant to be dipped in the chutney and the pairing is perfect. I really can't say anything bad about the food. I still have to try the dosa but I LOVE the Idlis. Service: top notch! Even though we're in the middle of the Covid-19 scare they were still super friendly, very accommodating, and just all around good people. (Forgot to mention that their Masala Chai is great!) I'll try to come back when I can. PS There are Idlis missing in my pics cause I already started eating before I remembered to take pics. Check them out and I know you won't be disappointed. They are great people and the food is wonderful.

So I ordered bunch of stuff from this place on a lazy Sunday morning to be delivered, I called them to confirm my order only to realize that i'll have to wait for 1:30 hours before I can get my food. Nevertheless, after about 2 hours I called them again only to realize that food hasn't been dispatched yet. After total 3.5 hours of waiting and multiple calls, I finally got the food. The person who delivered was very apologetic and even offered to waive the food bill. But I didn't want them to suffer so I asked them against it. On opening the food container I realized that couple of idlis were not present on contacting them again they said that they'll give me store credit for the same. The food in itself was delicious, do try their bullet idlis. I'll give them another chance to mend their mistake. If you are looking for a place with delicious food and great service, this is the place to go to. The ambiance is unpretentious, friendly and clean. They will gladly adjust the spice level to your liking so don't hesitate to let them know while placing the order. They gave me the option to have my filter coffee regular, strong or extra-strong, loved it! Good home-style food, bursting with flavors. Had 1 dosa and 3 plates of idli (bullet, magic, & , soaked in sambar) between myself and my husband! Not saying the portions are small, we just stuffed our face because we enjoyed it so much. Look forward to the opening of their second outlet closer home. There's something different about this place compared to the regular Hillcroft Indian restaurants - more homely ambience and food I guess. read more

It is getting a star for the fact that it exists. Otherwise it's a missed opportunity. Poori was made with tortillas. Kancheepuram idly does not resemble anywhere close to original. Vada was very small and little black. All dishes comes with same chutneys, without any Indian spice powders even though the description says so. Overall, very underwhelming. read more

Amazing service given by the young guy. He made sure that we get everything on the table. He kept checking if we needed extra sambar or chutney. Apart from great service the food was delicious. Me & my husband ordered magic dosa & magic idly. It was the best dosa I ate in Houston. The chutney & sambar are authentic south Indian taste. Great place for breakfast . You should try this place if your looking for some warm and home food . This is the place . The idly , dosas we ordered were top notch . Yummy idly and upma pesseratu was scrumptious . Do try this place and the two guys in the front were great at their service with regards to food and following up if we got everything we need . If you are visiting from Southern California and looking for a dosa place this isn't the one. The sambar was too thick and the mango lassi tasted more like store bought juice than a freshly made lassi. However, the prices are amazing! read more

Amazing Idlis and entrepreneurial spirit! Just like home food! They prepared our order in less than 20 mins. We got yummy, button and magic idlis. The food tasted really good, specially the chutney. AMAZING. I don't usually throw that word around, but this restaurant genuinely makes me feel unhappy I don't live in Houston. We've been to Indian lunch buffets and to Indian restaurants for dinner a trillion times before, but had never tried Indian breakfast and thus decided to come by when we were passing through during our road trip. Houston is a foodie city so my expectations were high, and I was not disappointed. This place opens early, which is great for people who need a nourishing, tasty breakfast before hitting the road or going to school/work. The environment is low-key and casual, so save your ball gown and black tie for another time. The prices alone make this restaurant worth coming to, everything is really cheap and affordable, which is refreshing in a world of expensive acai bowls and green smoothies. The service is attentive and polite. The girl up front was sweet in her demeanor and always refilling our water and asking us if we needed anything. We got all the vegan idlis and two dosas, and everything was so delicious that we kept eating even after we were full. So worth the added inches to my waist and three years in a food coma. This restaurant in a way ruined other food for me, because it'll never be as good as the food here. Counting down the days until I can come back. read more

The restaurant only makes Indian breakfast and brunch. The place is specialized in making many different kinds of Dosas and Idlis. and they are very good at what they do. If you want something authentic,, if you want to try Indian South Asian Breakfast and Brunch, this is the place you wanna go to. read more

Went to Flying Idlis for lunch today and it was ok at best. The dosa was not very crispy and but under cooked. The idli was too dense and felt way to heavy. The Sambar was alright but way too small amount given. The one redeeming point was cost. Overall much better places to get South Indian veg in Houston read more

This really felt like a quick visit to someone's home in India. Everything was delicious. The masala idlis, the healthy idlis, bullet idlis, the dosas. Ah. The coffee and tea. Just perfect. My gf who has never been to India was just overwhelmed by the homely feel to the whole place. If you're from India, this place will take you down memory lane. The food was just average. I ordered one dosa and button idlis and plain idli and they gave just one box of sambar. Really! Also sambar wasn't great in taste. As mentioned by other people also delivery was made half an hour late than scheduled time. They don't take any minimum charges for delivery and also delivery is free if you order from doordash. read more

I have been to this place a couple of times and tried different idlis and dosas. I must say the food quality is really good, it feels authentic and is reasonably priced. I was served with a smile on both occassions and it does matter to me. Krish, the owner was very friendly and I could feel the passion he has about his business and ambitions to take it further. I have 2 asks, for them to get 5 stars from me: 1. Offer coconut chutney along with peanut chutney as an option, For me this is a must have in south-indian food and I feel that that would enhance the taste of food in their menu. 2. Use red onions instead of white/yellow, again this provides more authentic feeling in the Indian food and IMO improves the overall taste. Having said that I would still visit them to enjoy the food and Sambar. Wish you best of luck on your venture. read more

I tried going there at 7.00 am today and it was not open and nobody even picked the phone.. I waited for 5 mins and realized they have advertised the wrong time.. I would recommend do not bother going till much later as it is not worth the drive to see an empty parking lot read more

We love flying idlis!! The food is great especially the bullet and stuffed idlis. The owner and staff go the extra mile and accommodate us as we have celiac and they make sure our food is prepared in a completely gluten free way. Cannot recommend flying idlis enough!! read more

I like this place overall. Good variety of idlis and dosas. Food tastes good. Service can be quicker and better. Like lack of serving water on the table and making you get up for it. The owner is very nice to talk to and gives good suggestions if he comes around to your table. I have also tried the lunch thali. Overall I think the quantity is less for most items for the prices being charged. The prices used to be lower some time back. Specially the portions in the thali are too small. They do offer to refill but again how many times will you ask to refill the tiny portions. read more

The smell inside the restaurant was also concerning, as it raises questions about hygiene and food safety standards. For context, we visited on a Saturday morning around 11:30 AM, so it wasn't late in the day or close to closing time. Based on this experience, I wouldn't prefer to visit again.

The goat curry was alright, don't know if I would order it again as the grease was overwhelming. I wasn't a fan of the palak paneer, found it too runny and it was leaking when it was delivered to us. Also the garlic naan was a bit hard in the middle; maybe it's due to the packaging? Wouldn't mind ordering here again but we'll definitely do some different items. Hopefully the samosas and chicken 65 are still on the BOGO status cause we'll definitely take those again.

While I do wish their success, it's hard not to point out minor mishaps in different aspects of the overall restaurant experience, which include: :: Awkward stares from the staff as they hover or stand in the middle of the room. It's understandable that they're monitoring to help where needed, but even then I will have to flag them down for water, napkins, or the bill. :: Buffet maintenance. They're semi-quick to replenish, but extremely slow at maintaining the cleanliness. Splatter from the daal makhani, a serving spoon not returned to the same serving tray, or even customers forgetting to close the bins at the dessert station (#2) could all be mitigated by a designated person keeping it tidy. :: Food quality. The tandoori chicken has been dry, the saag paneer could be creamier, and chicken tikka masala has had their bland days. Even the naan can be a bit too dry at times. Thankfully I've fared better with the chana masala and paneer makhani. I would also steer clear of their fruit punch. :: Decor is dark and dated. It still reminds me of a place that is stuck in time, which for most experiences are usually my favorite. The natural lighting during lunch alleviates this slightly, but the dinner hour makes this place feel like eating in an older hotel lobby. The vibes are most definitely challenging. :: Foodflation. Another price hike in the last year brings the buffet price to just under $22. My husband and I are foodies and have visited this restaurant a few times. We crave it so much that we drive all the way from Pearland for it. The food is delicious and service is great! The blazing masala dosa and fiery idlis are spicy and delicious. The tomato chutney and ginger pickle is a must try! We ended up ordering 3 packs of pickles to take home.
