I promised the counter guy I would leave a YELP rating, here it is. On Saturday, May 12th, my wife and I were looking for a place to have a late lunch. We had been out shopping for plants for our yard. Driving on State Street, we decided to stop in the Flying Pie for a mediun pizza. We ordered the $15.25 medium pizza around 2:30 pm. The counter guy cllothespinned and slid our order to the wire that transmits orders to the cook. We prevailed ourselves to have a few of the breadsticks and red sauce provided. The order seemed to take somewhat longer than we exp[ected, but the pizza is usually worth waiting for. Two tables behind us odered four pizzas about 15-20 minutes after we had sat down. Their pizzas were delivered and ours was not. It was now 50 mionutes since our credit card receipt was printed. OOPS ! Someone lost our order. After sitting for almost an hour; we were not inclined to wait any longer. We asked for our credit card charge to be voided. The counter guy offered a "managers card" for a free pizza for the next time. Sorry, I refused the freebie. I planned on paying for the product; I do not expect something for nothing. Nothing is what I got - except being disappointed at Flying Pie. read more

If your into bad service, nose piercings and hipster mustaches then this is for you. I took my family of four and had a horrible experience. While I enjoyed a beer the rest of my family had semi carbonated water from the broken soda fountain. They had no other drink options like tea or juice of even ice. WAS our favorite place to go. We know that you have to wait a little longer when they use a brick oven, but come on........ Last week we went there and the place was empty. We waited and hour and 20 minutes for our medium pizza. The place was filled up by that time and there were 5 or 6 people there waiting for take out. One left and we were about to. The manager? (dirty looking guy with a backwards baseball cap that looked like he needed a bath and a shave) came over. I told him how long we had been waiting, and he said "it happens" and walked off. He stopped and told one of the people waiting for take out the same thing, and they left. The place used to be all smiles and good service, but now they can't wait to tell you to go fuck yourself. Get the Garlic Chicken Alfredo!!!!!! It is unbelievable. The service is amazing and the staff are very friendly and energetic. Also their menu goes far beyond a regular ol pizza parlor. My family and I decided to give Flying Pie Pizza a try. What a disappointment. Not only did we wait for an hour and a half but while we waited we couldn't even visit because the music was so loud. Welcome to the 60's. Once we got it I thought it would be out of this world... Not. It was very average. There's clearly a different kind of crowd that gathers there... Flying Pie has excellent pizza. The ambiance is extremely casual, and the friendly people behind the counters have a lot of tattoos and jewelry sticking out of odd places. The pizza is an intermediate thickness crust, and you can actually taste the yeast, and a little garlic in the crust. The toppings are high quality ingredients, and everything is fresh. They also have an excellent global selection of beers on tap and in bottles. Sometimes it can get noisy when they are packed and with kids running around, but if you like pizza, you have to try this one. read more

In my time in Boise, I have found that this undiscovered gem of the Northwest has quite the pizza scene; the undeniable flagship of this is the Flying Pie. This is undeniably the best, and most creative, pizza in the city if not the entire state. It is clear that the crew behind the counter enjoys their job through the effort they put into making a unique pizza in a city that has at least 10 pizza parlors of both the private and corporate persuasion. Run-of-the-mill this place is not, ingredients are fresh, the dough is hand tossed, and the ingredient list is extensive. The food is absolutely amazing to say the least. I have never been disappointed by the Flying Pie. Quality comes at a price however, this is among the more expensive pizzas in Boise. But do not let that deter you, it is well worth the cost. And as an added final bonus for the 21 and over crowd, there is an extensive collection of fancy beer from Monasteries all over Europe. Good pizza. Worth the visit if you are in the area. The service was very long, but that's because they forgot our order. Salad bar is not worth it. Our group of 5 ordered one medium and one large pizza...breadsticks are free if you dine in. We had an entire pizza left over, so I'd recommend one large pizza for your party of five. read more

I must admit, I would have never even heard of this place if it weren't for the Travel Channel's Man vs. Food, but I am very glad that I got the opportunity to try some of their pizza, which by the way was absolutely delicious. The first time I went, I ordered and enjoyed the Contest Combo, and the second time around I ordered the Phosgo, also delightful. The atmosphere is wonderful, and I find that it truly feels like a pizzeria, with great, rapid service and free breadsticks whenever you dine in, which is also good. I also enjoy the fact that this place is conveniently located very close to my apartment, and this place, in all ways, is absolutely flawless, which I truly appreciate. I'm sorry Flying Pie.....I still love the pizza....but I have to say the last few times I've had a delivery or ate there has not been a pleasant experience. The delivery dude that drives the bug is awesome!!! But.....the last 2 deliveries one of the pizzas was good however the 2nd was way over done and actually some parts were burnt. I believe they need to rethink the whole wheat crust it taste terrible and evidently it burns easy. Then recently we came in to eat one Sunday afternoon and the guy brings out my bread sticks and threw them down in front of us like there was nothing wrong. I looked at my girlfriend and I said "what the hell, are you kidding me????" The bread sticks were basically burnt they were so done, I was absolutely shocked this guy would even bring them out! I have been going to, ordering take out and gotten deliveries from F/P for over 12 years and I still believe the F/P is the best pizza hands down in Boise. But the last few months have been a little disappointing. read more

We just had dinner at the Fairview store, around 6 pm 4-17-15. The noise was not bad, then a large employee (male) starting yelling constantly. All thru dinner, at customers, employees alike. He didn't speak he yelled. It was hard to have a conversation during our meal. We don't need to know when someone's shift ends, or the names of the customers picking up a pizza! Well, I hate to dissent but I thought the pizza was average at best. Crust was way too bready for my taste. Maybe I'm just a thin-crust guy. Worst was the red "sauce" provided for the bread sticks my kids had. Looked and tasted exactly like tomato paste straight out of the can. It was unanimous for my family. I give the State Street Location ZERO stars. but yelp is making pick at least 1 star to post this. Ordered the Samoan to take home only 3 miles away. The pizza was a brick of cheese on a hunk of dough. the cheese was not melty, gooey, hot at all. Could NOT taste the tomatoe sauce or the Canadian bacon. Lifted up the cheese, there was the bacon....FATTY AND RAW..... underneath the THINEST smear of tomatoe sauce I've ever seen...it had NO FLAVOR...no herbs and spices. Was like straight tomatoe paste. Again, to eat it, was like a chunck of dough with a 8oz block of cheese on top. Microwaving it didnt' help. Nothing helped but throwing it away. I will NEVER go back here, unless there was some way to get my money back, then I might drive there. read more

Let me say that this place did not make a very good first impression. I'm not a prude but it was a pretty notable experience, considering there were less customers than employees at the time. I've heard great things about the food but the environment was a mess and by "the environment" I mean the employees. Once we ordered and sat down, one of the employees started yelling at another. I thought it was a joke. Then the [yelling] employee stormed to the back and slammed pans around to prove how angry she was. In my opinion, it was pretty juvenile to act like that in public (let alone your work place with customers around). When we originally ordered we were asked if we wanted "complimentary" bread sticks while we were waiting for our pizza, I thought that was great considering I was starving. But nope, 6 employees and 15 minutes of monkeying around later, we had to ask and the guy had to "check our order." Great! Our whole meal should have been complimentary by that point. I'm sure they have better days but we must have came in at a bad time. And the food? I'll find another pizza place. My advice: this crew needs some training on something that is lacking: polite customer service. Or some new employees. read more

Went in here on a Friday night, it was pretty packed. Ordered two pizzas to go. The vegetarian was undercooked, veggies and mushrooms almost raw. I think their pizzas are okay but the Zambini is the best, except no one else but me ever wants it, so I never get to have it. One time many years ago, a pizza we ordered for delivery had splinters of wood mixed in it. We could have choked, maybe worse. All throughout the pizza was spinters of wood. Still can't figure out how that could have happened and it took me years to be able to eat their pizza again. To this day though, I am still looking out for big chunks of wood. I normally don't order it anymore after that trauma. They did bring us a cash refund and an apology but no explanation. Weird. Anyway, they seem like a good company so I can't say much bad about them other than that. The pizza is good but not great. I sometimes get similar results from Papa Murphy's take and bake, and for so much cheaper. But if you want to sit in, have a nice beer, get out of the house, then it's a decent choice. read more
