Wonderful friendly staff, they love being there! The pizza crust is not thin crust, but medium, and comes in regular, sourdough (my fave) and whole wheat. Excellent lunch deal on weekdays, all you can eat pizza and salad buffet, bread sticks and marinara too! And the draft, draught, beer selection is always rotating, from local to around the world. A keg of Chimay Grand Reserve one time! A local brewery makes their own signature beer, Triple Pie, a take on a Belgian tripel. Only the finest ingredients are used here: real Canadian bacon, their own linguiça sausage from a local provider, Zerto pecorino Romano from Italy... you get the idea. This is a Boise institution, and the original place is up on Fairview Avenue, same great stuff. Also on Broadway, near the college. And in Meridian! Overall Poor to fair Very Bad Experience..Will not go back ever. It was MY pizza day by name. Arrived with my boss and a colleague in tow. When I introduced myself and said my name was xxxx I got a blank stare. Then the cashier had to look on the chalk board to find out if that was in fact the name of the day. I was immediately handed a bunch of rules and no smile or welcome. Read this book, wait a half hour, don't take it too seriously or we'll throw you out. So much for a pleasant staff. Decided to chuck the idea of a pie for free and went back to the table. We decided on slices. My boss asked the very surly young man behind the counter how much the slices were. His response was to backhand him with a wave and say, "Prices are on the monitor." Like he didn't know how much they were. Back to the cashier. What monitor? Where? Again, blank stare. They were it turned out, on laminated pages on the counter. What a run around! Such nasty people! When the slices were served I could not eat mine. Raw tomato paste on horrible crust with under cooked vegetables and little cheese. It pains me to write this review because I really wanted to like the place. It is right down the street from my house and the cashier (Kim) was very friendly. I also liked the "alternative" vibe and the beers on tap. So why does Flying Pie Pizzeria get only 1 star? All I can say is Digiorno. If you've ever had frozen Digiorno frozen pizza you will know what I mean. My combo pizza tasted EXACTLY like the frozen pizza from the grocery store. The dough is not good and tastes just like frozen pizza dough. I am convinced the sauce is tomato paste that goes strait from a can onto the pizza. The toppings were horrible. Seriously, go buy and Digiorno pizza from Albertsons and then go buy Flying Pie combo pizza. The difference between the two is negligible. I have no idea why this place has good reviews. It can't be because of the food. maybe they pay people? maybe its the staff? The ambiance is cool, but that's it. Final word of advice: GO TO CASANOVA They make a delicious pie that puts this pizza joint to shame. I do not work for Casanova. I just moved to Boise and have tried about 6 pizza places. New to Boise, and this our favorite Pizza place. All the employees yelling and having fun makes it worth while.

We stopped in today a few minutes after they opened to place a to go order. I really wish we would've kept driving. The service was TERRIBLE! The woman who took our order was rude and abrasive. They play music, which is great, but it can make it hard to hear. When my husband asked her to repeat the question, she did with a look of disgust and what was very clearly her way of letting us know she was annoyed. While waiting for our pizzas I was putting together a salad and needed a lid for my dressing container. I asked another woman if she had extra lids and she very kindly gave me some. However, the guy she was speaking with, another employee of this place, gave me a dirty look. I tried to smile and got a glare in return. I have been thinking about this pizza weeks afterwards. I had been to the Fairview location in years past and always loved their pizza. So when I had a ravenous post-holidays family, I suggested we try this locale. Which, was, of course, my saving grace. The unfortunate thing was that coming out of the rain, we came into a crowded reception area which was not monitored, and a "Seat Yourself" situation. Which was unfortunate, as there were 2 people taking up a 6+ person booth, people lingering over empty plates, and a general sense of angst and chaos as people hovered nearby waiting for tables. We sat on some bar stools waiting for a table to clear and I nearly got into a fistfight with a couple that had just sauntered in thinking they could take the large booth we were waiting for (ok, maybe it was a slightly passive aggressive exchange "We were waiting for the table, but you can have it if you want..." Once we were finally seated, the pitcher of beer (I got 2 samples when they were out of the beer I ordered) helped stave off the hunger until the FREE! breadsticks arrived (free breadsticks with all dine in orders) - AND 1/2 off second pizza; which was awe-some. The flavorful sweet sauce with tasty chewy perfectly baked bread with strings of cheese oozing off the edges encasing fatty crispy carnage..... This is what dreams are made of. read more

We were in the area and chose Flying Pie after seeing it on Man Vs, Food. The pie was good and the house beer was good as well. They have a lot of options on the menu and the atmosphere is good as well. We will definitely visit again next time we are in Boise. read more

Visiting from out of state and received a recommendation from a friend to come here. I thought the place was fun when I first waked in. The cashier wasn't very friendly though. I ordered the Death by Garlic Zappi and got free bread sticks. It took at least 20 minutes for the sticks to come out. The best part was the topping. The sauce and the bread weren't anything special. The Zappi finally made its way out almost 10-15 minutes after I was served the sticks later and it wasn't very good. It had about 15 whole garlic cloves in it, and while I like garlic, that was a bit much. The description made no mention of WHOLE garlic cloves. On the way out I walked by the cashier and smiled and she just looked at me. I was disappointed after all of the good things I had heard. I really wanted it to be better than it was. read more

Ordered 3 pizzas last night for carry out. Cheese,half cheese and pep, and a habanero. Pizzas so beyond over cooked and burnt. Habanero pizza tasted like it was cooked the day before and refired. Service was lacking as a whole. Told we cannot get a half Hawaiian, half something else pizza. Pizzas forgotten and then 20 min later determined they've been dying in the hot box. I have been here on multiple occasions and every time, I have to wait at least 30 minutes for a dang pizza! Though it is good pizza, it's not AMAZING and not worth the wait. There are plenty of other pizza places I would rather go in Boise that have quicker service and tastier pie. However, one of the quirks I do like about this place is when they put your name or a specific group on the board and it's your day to make a free pizza. Love habanero pizza season every year as do my 5 kiddos. We rolled in at 1930, ordered a small 10in pepperoni and a smaller 8in quad habanero along with a couple drinks. We waited an hour, had to ask for the pizzas and only had the pepperoni pizza arrive. Ate that and waited another 15 mins then had to ask for the habanero pizza again. They had no clue but ending up comping us for the pizza and wine my wife ordered. Probably honest mistake, great fresh pizza, bomb habanero, service needs improvement but great comp for our time. Delicious pizza and great prices if you go after 3. I don't what time that goes till, but we went in right after three, and a slice of the lunch pizza was only a buck. We got four slices (they are huge) and a whole pizza. The free breadsticks were fun and bottomless soda is always welcome. Just got stationed in Boise on Gowen National Guard base with the US NAVY. And growing up on the east coast I have had some damn good pizza. This place BY FAR is one of the best I have ever been.
