I like Flying Pie's pizza. They have great sauce and they load on the toppings. I mean LOAD them on. The crust has decent flavor, though it is a bit thick for my preference. I love all their unique combinations. The Habanero is incredible but wowsa... it is hot! I really liked their garlic chicken. Great flavor and the white sauce was not overpowering. I love that we can get draft beer or wine DELIVERED right to our front door. It doesn't even seem legal, but I'll take it! Even though I like their pizza, it remains at 3 stars for me for a few reasons. It is really expensive. They always send out coupons, which are a must for us to be able to afford them. They are also a bit slow. It takes maybe 15-20 minutes for the pizza to arrive to your table. And be sure to plan ahead if doing delivery or carry-out. We have waited 1.5 hours to get our delivery. Also be careful using their online ordering system. We completed an order once for carry out at their Meridian Location and when we went to pick it up...they didn't have our order in their system and said that online ordering wasn't even an option for their location? Totally could have been user error...but I don't know. Lastly, we tried to use their Yelp Check-In deal (20% off when you check-in on Yelp!), but after waiting through 2 employees who had no idea what to do, we couldn't wait any longer and had to leave without our discount. Normally, I love flying pie. But I was incredibly disappointed after this last time I went. The "Stromboli" is supposed to have "Pepperoni, Italian sausage, onions + green peppers with mozzarella over red sauce on sourdough crust" (flying pie pizzeria.com). In addition, before we posted a review on yelp we decided to call to inform them that the pizza wasn't correct. Chris, the store manager, was incredibly rude to my mother and made no attempt to try and rectify the situation. Normally, the service at flying pie is fantastic but this situation was disturbing due to chris' lack of empathy and his rude demeanor towards my mother. Overall: The pizza wasn't what we ordered and when my mother called to inform Chris (the manager so he told us) he was indifferent and was rude to my mother. read more

I've been ordering takeout pizzas from this location 4-5 separate times now. Even though this place has good reviews and praise, I still don't think it's really a 5 star place. The main issue (for me) is the price (bang for buck). The pizzas here are very pricey. Yes, I know this place isn't on the same level as Papa John's or Dominos, but it's almost twice the price of those kinds of places, and the pizzas here really aren't 2x better. Yes the toppings are fresh and abundant, but man it's still pricey. Even though they have the buy 1 get 1 half price deal for medium or large pizzas, your total will be around $40 for 2 larges, while I can get 2 larges from other places for right around $20 (when those other places have 50% off coupon codes, etc). The pizzas are tasty, ingredients taste fresh for the most part. Lots of variety available. My personal favorites are Garlic Chicken Pizza & Contest Combo Pizza. Someone in a previous review mentioned that they never answer the phone when you try and call to place an order. I found that to be accurate, since 1 time I actually tried calling 3 times to order (each time 5 minutes apart) and no one answered. They have been better at that recently though, and I only had 1 time this happened within the last month or so. Overall, they have tasty pizzas, but if the pricing was re-evaluated and dropped slightly, this place would be 4-5 stars easy. I really enjoy the pizzas when I order here, but the pricing is just a little off IMO. As a side note, their Habanero pizza they have in the summer is HOT AF. I got the "weakest" version, and I was sweating and dying after my first slice. If you LIKE hot foods, level 1 is for you. If you're a savage that likes torture, get level 2. If your previous life was you living your life as a BBQ charcoal briquette getting roasted in jet fuel in the middle of the Sahara Desert, then level 3 is for you. read more

I don't think I have ever given a pizza place 5 stars, but this place deserves it! A couple of years ago I saw Flying Pie Pizzaria featured on an episode on Man Vs. Food. I thought the pizza looked good, but since I lived in California, I never thought I would have the opportunity to try it. Fast forward to present day....I now live in Idaho & the Meridian Flying Pie is less than 5 miles from my house. Saturday night date night with the hubby brought us to Flying Pie. We arrived at around 7:30. As we opened the door to the restaurant we were hit with the glorious smell of delicious pizza. There was an employee who explained to us how the process of ordering is done: 1. Grab a menu 2. Seat yourself 3. Review the menu & decide what you want to order 4. Go back to the register and order & pay for your pizza I really liked being able to take all the time I needed to look over the menu without worrying about holding up the line at the cash register. We ordered 2 medium pizzas: # 2 pizza without onions or peppers Pepperoni and pineapple Flying Pie offers a discount of 50% off your second medium or large pizza. They also give you free breadsticks if you dine in. The total for the 2 pizzas, breadsticks, & 1 soda was $28. The wait time for our pizzas was not bad, it was about 25 minutes. While we waited they brought our breadsticks to nosh on. When the pizzas arrived they looked & smelled delicious! They were loaded with toppings & had the perfect amount of cheese. The crust was nothing short of perfection. It had a nice crisp bottom & the right amount of chew. I could pick up a slice and hold it up and it wouldn't drop down. The crust was able to maintain its integrity under all of the toppings. The sauce was also great. I highly recommend Flying Pie. It will not disappoint. read more

It's somewhat hit or miss but when they get it right, man is it awesome. Like a lot of the smaller local chains, consistency would be my only minor criticism, but here's the good: The pizza is next level, incomparable to the average pizza chain. Dough is thick and chewy, sauce has a deep, dark richness about it, and the toppings are super quality. When they cook it right, it's one of the better pies Ive had. And when they get it wrong, we kindly ask them to make us another and they always oblige. The salad bar seems meticulously put together, great selection of different greens, and a bunch of ingredients beyond the typical including artichoke hearts. The complimentary bread is simply so good it's surprising they give it away for free. The bar section is sufficiently quaint, helps to maintain the youthful spirit of the place while still offering a bunch of different beers, which they'll happily let you taste test before you decide on one. As for the feel of the place, it's got a hip young diy warmth to it, without being pretentious at all. Reminds me of an 80s clubhouse, with a few classic arcade games in the back. Very welcoming, and hard to leave. We usually stay for an hour and a half or so and just enjoy the vibe. Fortunate to have this unique and fun pizza place. On a busy weekend night when the staff is on top of their game, there's almost no other restaurant in town I'd rather be. read more

This is the second time this happened to me and I've only been there three times. Terrible customer service they cancel my order And just had me leave. AVOID MIKE. Brought family in walked to bar. There is 4 tables being occupied. Asked if Corona can was available got a harsh No! With an attitude no personality looked like he didn't even want to be here. Ordered Kona bigwave he slams down glass asked to order food he walks away comes back. I had my wife come up to sample a beer because the Corona was for her he poured a sample slams it down looks at and says food? Ordered a sausage pep large and bacon sticks. He says 54.01. I said I have coupon for pizza his response online only. I said I got the app on phone got a rude online only. Then my wife and I looked at him she said is there a problem his response with what? I said your attitude she said customer service he replied sorry we are busy. We paid for the 2 beers 1 rootbeer 20 bucks by way. They have good pizza and normally have cool laid back people. The pizza and toppings were absolutely delicious! I am only giving 2 stars because of our dine-in experience. The restaurant was not very clean, there were people waiting for booths to be cleaned when we arrived. The staff were extremely slow. EXTREMELY. SLOW. We waited 5-10 mins at the counter before someone came up to take our order, we waited over 40 mins longer to receive our pizza after we ordered. Then, when we asked for forks (there were none left with the rest of the silverware) it took an additional 20+ minutes before they washed some and refilled the fork bin. We had to search out additional napkins as well. The staff seemed very put-off by our request for forks and even asked "why do you want a fork?". Sad about our family dinner experience. Been goin g here for years. Pizza is outstanding and still is;however, customer service has dropped off since the makeover. Called in an order after work, showed up 40min later and watched 8 other customers get their orders before me and no explanation. I just left. No call no questions. My son called another time and asked for a pizza with jalapeño, was told habanero season was over and can order any pizza adding jalapeño. the supervisor in charge named Mike does not even know his own menu. Could have offered the tripe pie and been great. I'd love to have a conversation with the manager Chris about both of these situations. My brother clued me in to give this place a try. This being my first time in, I have to honestly say it was a great experience. The lady taking our order graciously got my wife and I a sample of the wine and beer choices we wanted to make sure we'd like them. They served us a complementary order of breadsticks to start us off. Very tasty. We opted for a pizza with sour dough crust and was that ever a delightful treat! Pizza was cooked exceptionally well leaving us actually wanting more than the 10" size we ordered. Every person we engaged with treated us well. We walked in for dinner while traveling, and they took such good care of us. We felt extremely safe, and their team was very accommodating in their processes to help us. We really had a great interaction with everyone there and the pizzas were delicious. We had the phosgo pie, the garlic chicken and pepperoni sticks. Everyone walked away full and happy! For those who have never been, allow me to clarify a few things as I wax poetic on the greatness of this pizza and the establishment itself: 1 . This is not a quick "grab and go" pizza. If all you want is a quick fix, either go to some crappy chain, or just call ahead to order and tell them what time you expect to be in. 2. You seat yourself, and you go to the counter (or the bar) to order. Their staff are often doing multiple tasks at once, so be patient. That being said, these are also the most kind, hilarious, talented, and quirky people in the business. If you treat them politely, they'll take great care of you; if you act like a pushy jack***, you don't belong here anyway. 3. Yes, it takes time to handcraft a pizza. Unlike the pizza warehouses that shall go unnamed, the Pie staff don't make your pizza until you order it. This means hand-spinning the dough, adding all the toppings (which are fresh and delicious, may I say), and baking it. Baking doesn't happen microwave-fast. Grab a salad (maybe a beer or glass of wine if you're so inclined), play some pinball, have an actual conversation over the free breadsticks which will be brought fresh from the oven, and live like you're actually enjoying the company around you instead of cramming food in your face in order to sustain life. 4. Don't get too attached to a beer, they rotate fast! There's always the Coors/Bud Light (not my bag), and the Triple Pi (made by local masters of all things beer, Sockeye Brewing, and only available at Flying Pi), but the other taps rotate about every week or two. You can also request beers tone brought on, and they'll kindly call you when the keg is tapped. They also allow you to sample so you can find a new beer you're bound to love. All this taken into account, get yourself a Zerto Magnifico (add cream cheese, your life will be forever altered), come for habanero season in August, and take some time to just enjoy the simple pleasures of great pizza, great beer, and great company. Here is how a standard To-Go intersection here goes: 1) place order on phone and get 1+ hour ready time 2) arrive on time and get told it will only be 10 mins more 3) wait a minimum of another 30+ mins watching helplessly as the lost and understaffed teams runs around trying to make heads or tails of the orders they are taking in 4) go to the counter for the obligatory "uhum" conversation to be like "do you know what's going on?" 5) eventually they figure it out and you take your half warmed pizza home because it was lost in the shuffle and could have been given to you hot when you arrived most likely. I'm ashamed to say that in the 15 years we've lived in the valley, we've never been to a Gourmet Night. We planned a night out with some coworkers, and hubby was looking forward to getting a habanero pizza to go (crazy boy loves them, but only cold). However, our experience was less than stellar. The first time we tried to go was 7/17/18. We walked into an oven - the a/c was broken! We were assured that it would be fixed the following week, so we left. Fast-forward to tonight, 7/24/18. 100+ outside...welcome to a Boise summer! Again, we were welcomed to a sweatshop. We didn't want to postpone again, so we suffered thru it, though we did not stay long - we would have loved to stay to have a few more beers and chat with the AWESOME bartender that was on shift. I couldn't bring myself to even try most of the pizzas being offered, but the few I did try were great. Would be nice if they were labeled, though. Disclaimer - I will edit my review once we get to visit with working a/c! The fact that people have to work under these conditions is asinine...and it speaks volumes to how little you really care for your employees, much less paying customers. read more

Great Pizza! Like just about everywhere else we've encountered on our visit, great people behind the magic as well. Took our friends who recently moved out as a thank you for hosting us while we visited and explored this weekend, and they now have a new go-to pizza place.
