My new employers insurance had so many dental offices to choose from in Alhambra. I picked this one to try out and I can say I really like it. Do to the C19 pandemic they take extra measures from the waiting room to the dental rooms making sure everyone who enters is as safe as possible. The desk clerks are very nice and helpful. Everybody is really professional here. I didn't make an appointment and did a walk in. They were really fast and got me into the xray room. The office manager named Vivian, was very nice and did my xray. She took my xray faster than most dental places I been too. She, then, took me into another room where I met Dr. DO. He took his time looking at all my xray pictures and explained what needs to be done. The dental assistants who helped me out were very professional and well mannered too. The doctor put dental sealants in all of my molars to prevent my teeth from further cavities. Because Dr DO explained everything, I was not anxious at all. Highly recommend!!! read more

I'm incredibly FORTUNATE to have found Focus Dental. The staff are upmost professional and polite, especially Vivian. They also treat you as family and are so warm and welcoming. I thought having Medi-Cal I'd have to wait months to be seen let alone to get any actual work done but I was set up with an appointment basically the next day called. I think they were just too busy the first time I visited. The front desk lady is always super nice & talkative. They're willing to try to help me figure out a budget and more. FINALLY! A dentist that I actually want to AND LOOK FORWARD to visiting! Gone are the dreaded mornings where you know you have to go to the dentist. When I have an appointment with Dr. Ky Do, I jump out of bed and smile! Dr. Ky Do makes seeing the dentist as painless and relaxing as can be. I found this dentist through Yelp as I needed a new one due to moving away from College. Let me walk you through a visit to Focus Dental Group: When you walk through the doors, you are greeted by the nicest ever front desk receptionist. She will check you in and ensure you that your insurance is good to go. She is super on top of everything and even double checked all the information. When my insurance changed, instead of having me call them to check, she went ahead and called the insurance company herself and navigated the 30+min hold time just to verify all of my info. Then, someone comes and brings you in. The dentist hygienist is the most gentle and cheerful person in the world. He will lead you to your seat and take your bags & jacket for you to set aside. He asks you how your day is and other short pleasantries before he asks you about any tooth pain and medical history. After the important stuff is over, he turns Netflix on and asks you what you want to watch! He gives you a pair of headphones and goes to work while you watch your favorite movie or tv show. For the next 30 minutes, you can barely feel anything as he cleans your teeth. He has a very gentle, yet thorough touch! For me, I decided it was a good idea to watch "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" so now I'm on the verge of spitting plaque and water all over the place as I try to keep my mouth open and stifle my laughter. Oops.. After the cleaning is done, he turns Netflix off so you can rinse your mouth. Then Dr. Ky Do comes over. If this is not your first time in the office, Dr. Ky Do will remember everything you talked about from your previous trip-even if it was 6 months ago! He goes out of his way to build a great relationship with all his patients and is very genuine and kind. Dr. Ky Do will go over your x-rays and check for cavities, gum disease, and all sorts of other nasty stuff our mouths and teeth love to do to us sometimes. What I love the most about Dr. Ky Do is that he explains EVERYTHING that he is doing and WHY he is doing it Takes away all the fear & anxiety! If all is good to go, then you get your goodie bag which contains a toothbrush, toothpaste, & floss, and head back to the receptionist to set up your next appointment. Now as you leave the office your teeth feel great from the cleaning and you're happy to be caught up on your favorite Netflix series. People think I'm silly for enjoying going to the Dentist. But I've had so many terrible dental experiences growing up (they were mean, aggressive, impersonal, and even money-hungry. I had a previous dentist who eventually got sued for malpractice!!!), that finally having a dentist and dental office that genuinely seems like they care about you and your health is an amazing feeling. Just came in the other day for a checkup on my teeth. Upon arrival, everyone was friendly and welcoming. They greeted me properly and were sure to help me out with any questions as I was filling out the paperwork. I've been having tooth aches on the back-bottom row of my teeth for about a month now, and decided to come here to get it check out upon recommendation. I have a history of bad teeth and many fillings in the past due to poor flossing, so I expected to get a filling soon. I was lucky enough to get an open spot within the hour. The room I was put in was comforting, and overall was not the typical-dental place that I usually visited. Dr. Do was my dentist, and examined my teeth while performing x-rays. He was super friendly and told me the procedure of my filling. Fillings aren't exciting for me - especially the numbing part where I am injected with the needle. Dr. Do made this as painless as possible, almost as to where I felt nothing. The filling was painless, I sat there for about 35 minutes and I was done! My first time getting a teeth cleaning at Focus Dental was an overall fine and seamless experience! I was never compelled to write a review for any of my previous dentists, but Dr. Do's exceptional service and carefulness was beyond my expectations. Once I sat in the seat, he made sure I was comfortable and we had a little chat about any possible questions or problems I've been experiencing with my teeth. Communication felt natural and I really felt at ease. The teeth cleaning itself was very surprising. I had some plaque buildup on teeth and usually dread cleanings as they always feel like an eternity of grimacing and tenseness. However, this cleaning was different. It felt like Dr. Do really took his time to minimize any irritation with my gums and he made sure throughout that I was relaxed. Of course, at the end of the cleaning, all of the plaque was gone. We had a short talk about maintaining teeth cleanliness and I was given a nice dental goodie bag! I will definitely be coming back again! read more

This is by far the worse dental clinic that I have been to. The dentists and assistants treated me like I was stupid and tried to con me to pay cash instead of with my dental insurance. When I had walked in, I was treated like I was just another few hundred dollars of money that they can profit from. I didn't like this place so much that I am paying extra just to go to another dentist. That is how bad my experience was like here at Focus Dental. Later in the few months, I found out that more than 5 other complaints were made to this dental office in Alhambra, because of their discriminatory practices with Medi-Cal clients. They were listed as a clinic servicing those with Medi-Cal but with the client complaints, they included but not limited to the following: 1. It took two months for one client to get to the office, to have an appointment only to find out that they denied serving him because of his older age. 2. They did not respond to the phone calls to discuss with a manager the issues that were raised for the staff 3. They had told insurance providers that they are to be listed to serve individuals with dental needs but in fact, turn them away at last minute notice without any explanation. I also called and found out that they also hung up on just about anyone. There is no transparency to this business and I hope that it shuts down immediately. The lack of respect to others, the non-existent professionalism and the discrimination are grounds for a lawsuit to happen. I wasn't even able to connect with the manager, Caroline, with no last name, because the clerks not only hang up on you, but they also speak to you in a condescending manner. They refused to cooperate and instead threatened me over the phone twice, with two different staff persons. Clearly, they need to re-evaluate who they hire, but most importantly, close down, remodel and restructure, and re-open with better people and better services. How can this place be so lowly and despicable? I wish that there was a 0-star review selection, but one star is being too nice. I'm surprised no one has already closed this business. Perhaps they can train their staff better and also clear up all the discriminatory practices, with the acknowledging that they have to have more efficient practices with none of the incorrect information that confused clients, or else there would be no clients. read more

Worst dentist I have been to in my whole life. My wife and I showed up for our appointment, I waited 15 minutes and she waited 45 minutes. They were "switching to a new xray machine" which is why it took 4 people to figure out how to login into the computer, and the person taking my xrays had no idea how to use the machine. She kept touching the mouse and keyboard with her gloves along with three other people's bare hands that were trying to get the software to work. I asked her to change her gloves afterwards before putting xray devices in my mouth. Once sat down in the chair the dentist came in to see me and poked around in my mouth for about 2 minutes and left. What appeared to be the office manager came in and told me I had 4 cavities and asked when I would like to schedule a second visit to have them filled. I asked her why the dentist didn't tell me, or point them out to me, or ANYTHING. She brought him back in which was a huge inconvenience for him. I asked him where the cavities were, how big are they, do they need to be filled etc. He did my cleaning which was awful. He cleaned each tooth for about a half second and just the main surface. He left the room and mumbled under his breathe that I have 5 cavities, not 4. I checked out at the front desk and the office manager asked when Id like to come in to have the cavities filled. I said I'm never coming here again, and she didn't even ask why. What could they have done better? She just seemed used to it and didn't care to get feedback to improve their service. I don't give 1 star that often but their checkin and efficiency was 1 star, their staff knowledge of their equipment 1 star, dentist attitude and thoroughness 1 star, and their customer service 1 star. This is honestly the best dentist I've been to, sounds crazy but I was going to another dentist and had a nightmare about going under anesthesia for my wisdom tooth extraction so I called around just to check out other places. When I called here I got really good customer service from Vivian and really liked her energy. I had my wisdom teeth extracted here twice two on one side each time, the oral surgeon is really good. He extracted my teeth really fast, under an hour each time with minimal trauma. the second time took a little longer because one of my teeth was really deep, I still came in at 2 and left at 2:50pm. They will make sure you don't feel any pain you just have to be vocal with them if you do feel anything. The catered to me and my fears, I was pretty vocal about being afraid and not wanting to feel any pain. read more

Dr. Ky Do was very friendly and kind to me. Along with his excellent staff they made my dentist experience worth while. When I first arrived I was asked to fill out paperwork and show proof of insurance. The secretarial staff was kinda to me and they made me feel welcomed. Next up was my procedure. My teeth had been hurting for weeks so I thought that I had a cavity somewhere by my lower molars. Turns out I was correct. Dr. It Do told me that everything was going be okay and that I was in good hands. The procedure was not painless but it was smooth. I was given an numbing cream along with a shot in order to alleviate some pain. Next was the drilling of the cavity which went smoothly. The filling did not hurt a bit and in one hours I was in and out of the office. Great experience would certainly recommend this dental office. read more

I'm so happy I found Dr. Stephanie Lee at Focus Dental Group. Dr. Lee is currently my dentist, and the only dentist I go to. She is so accommodating, diligent, and patient. She knows a lot about teeth and you can tell she's super passionate about it. She knows that I have a fear of going to the dentist (who doesn't??) However, she makes every effort to make sure I am comfortable every time I have to get a procedure done. Oh-- not to mention her dental assistants (I don't know their names) are really awesome because i assist her very well. I don't know how to go much more in detail...but for those of you who have gone to a good dentist..you know how nice it is when someone holds that saliva suction thing so you don't choke on your own saliva...well I like how considerate they are here with that thing:) She is so patient she explains why and how she will be doing my procedure. You know she really cares about her patient because she does everything in her power to make sure you understand what is going on with your tooth/teeth. She is very detailed-oriented and follows up with me to make sure my tooth/teeth is feeling okay the next day. The receptionist Caroline is super nice and accommodating as well! I hated my previous dentist, he used equipment that looked like from the 90's and his staff was so rude! I went to Focus Dental and it was amazing! I recommend Dr. Do, he is a great dentist and he explains everything especially when I got my wisdom tooth taken out! The staff is very understanding as well. I had to cancel an appointment twice and they were very helpful about it! Just go somewhere else. I went in for a check up, everything was fine. The receptionist said she would call me as soon as my insurance approved me. Sounds goods, but 3 weeks went by and I never heard from them. I called them up to ask for the status on my insurance. She gave me an attitude and told me not to call, once she had everything she would call me! I strongly believe she never submitted anything up until that point. Another 3 weeks go by and nothing, again. So I call back and ask one more time, and she tells me "yes, you were approved..." so where's the phone call? Anyways, the closest date she had was 2 months away. By this time 6 weeks or maybe even longer had gone by! A whole 3.5 months passed. I go to my appointment, everything is cool, I just want my work done and to get out by this point. While waiting for the oral surgeon in my room, I hear the receptionist arguing with a couple of her co-workers! It was loud! She's very unprofessional! It wasn't a 1 time thing either. The previous visit, she was going off on one of the dental assistants. My cousin also went in... big mistake! Same thing happened! Again the receptionist going off on all her co-workers claiming she does "all the work around here" she ended up walking out and taking her business somewhere else. read more

I went see Dr. Ky Do for the first time 2 months ago, referred by my best friend, and I am never going to other dentists anymore. Here is why... He is very nice and friendly, so it is very easy to ask questions. He is SO passionate about what he does! No wonder why he is very well experienced. It is such a good feeling to know your dentist is suggesting treatments not for money, but for your health. Their fees are very reasonable. All staff are also very friendly and sweet. I got multiple cavities treated in one hour since I did not have time to come back again and again. I didn't even think about how tiring it was going to be to be treated at a dentist for an hour! I get anxiety thinking about going to the dentist because I get cavities so easily and have spent sooooo much money. I am never gonna feel that way thanks to Dr. Ky Do! read more

If there were zero stars that's what they deserve. Absolutely unprofessional. I brought my dad in for extractions and they tell him that his teeth are too "hard" and they need to refer him to a oral surgeon. Funny because they've extracted two teeth from him before. The difference this time was they were expecting us to do a root canal on two teeth, which was approved by medi-cal. And apparently when we said we just wanted them extracted they didn't feel like they wanted to bother. So they came up with this lame excuse. Not only this they were telling him that he needed to extract two totally separate teeth that were causing him pain. So how the hell do they know it's causing him pain?! Are they the ones in pain?! If I didn't raise my voice regarding the two teeth that were actually causing him pain they wouldn't have even addressed it. This Dr. Needs to retire. I went as a new patient to get a cleaning. The receptionist told me that an xray was required for new patients. I told them that I got an xray recently and had fixed all my cavities with my previous dentist. The receptionist and office manager said that it was the insurance company, not them, that requires xrays for new patients. I later called my insurance company and found out that it wasn't true. It's up to the dentist whether or not to require an X-ray. I guess the office manager just wants to make more money. read more

Pro: Dr.Chan treated me very nicely, and she is willing to spend time to understand my condition. Con: When I first came to their office, the receptionist told me that they accept Medical so I made an appointment with them for the day after. The receptionist told me I have to do a x-ray. When I asked her if I can bring a copy of my teeth x-ray from my former dentist, she told me that usually they charge for the copy and if i do it here the medical will cover it. So I did it over there. After the examination, Dr. Chan told me I might need to have a root canal but the medical does not cover it. So usually its the receptionist negotiates the price with customers right? She came to me and told me that there is no dentist who take medical for root canal which is not true. (I found one that takes it few days later) I told her that I might need to got my tooth nerves removed when I made the appointment with her and I asked her if they take medical. She said yes. But afterword there are certain things they do not accept. When I came to their office again to ask a copy of my x-ray (I don't want to get radiated twice in a week ) They told me its 50 dollars for a copy and when I went to the new dentist, they only charge 2 dollars for a copy. The front desk staffs are good & corteous. While I had a tooth extraction with Dr Do, he did my wisdom tooth quick! I can say he has the expertise. I'm giving this clinic 2 stars instead of easily 5 for the reason that, after extraction. I asked for pain meds prescribed. No prescription was given! Told me to buy OTC Motrin if I needed! Even in the Philippines its standard protocol to prescribe NSAID. I was not asking for narcotic but just Ibuprofen or Motrin. The pharmacy by their clinic has liquid for pedia only. They have tablets only if with prescription! I have to travel again to another pharmacy to get the OTC Motrin! After 3-4 hours my anesthesia was completely gone & my face start swelling, it was a hot day to travel looking for my Motrin, I had to wait for the bus. Now I have been taking Motrin round the clock for the throbbing pain! Dr wont give you an off from work as well! So better be ready to go to work the same day you got tooth extraction! I work at night time, so had my procedure around 10:45AM I am scheduled to work 7PM. If I wont be in pain might as well do the extraction without the anesthesia next time! Conclusion and recommendation, there are other better dentist! read more

Since the HMO dentist does not work past 4PM on weekdays and does not work weekends, I usually try to call in a few days before to set an appointment if by some miracle I am able to get a weekday off and they are ALWAYS booked. I just called now and asked if they had anything open for a cleaning and because a tooth is bothering me, First Lady on the phone says yes and for me to hold. Second lady picks up the phone and asks what I'm holding for, I explain and she asks for my name and date of birth. After what I can only assume is her looking up my insurance, she says sorry we are all booked call another day. I am switching dentists right after this review. read more

Actually blown away with the level of professionalism and service here, this is after having some pretty bad experiences in LA/OC at other 4 1/2- 5 star rated places on yelp no less. Being originally from the Bay Area, the transition from moving locations required me to find a dental place for my yearly checkups. I've had numerous dentists and offices try to push me into getting numerous work on my teeth done and it always felt like a hustle or sales pitch every time, but Focus Dental Group did such a great job with my consultation and minor treatment yesterday I'm going to pursue some future work with them. One notable staff was Dr. Ky Do. He did a great job of answering all my questions and being up front with costs, at no point ever being pushy about it. Nonetheless, I learned that it was not necessary for me to perform some of the operations that other places tried to persuade me was necessary. Also, based on my past experience with other dental offices, my oral x-rays were always painful and uncomfortable. However, everything from the x-ray to the shot were executed effortlessly with no discomfort or pain. The staff at Focus Dental Group were so gentle and I have never felt so comfortable at a dental office. Going to get further work done in the future with them without a doubt! For the most case, most of my friends paid an average of 2,000-3,000 dollar for two simple things of x-ray+check up and the removal of 4 wisdom tooth. sound a bit fair... but still pricey well, as for me, since it's my first visit to this wonderful place, i'd recieved the x-ray + check up + deep cleaning + the removal of two wisdom tooth and an additional tooth for $2,450. yes, i know this still is very pricey , but wait till you hear this. In the process of checking out all of my tooth + the X-ray chart, the dentist stated that i need a grand total of 15 cavitity to be filled plus an additional wisdom teeth needed to be removed. In dismay of having to pay more than i wanted to, i told the office lady of my financial crisis and would probably need to skip out on the filling of the cavities. To my surprise, she casually went in the back, spoke with some dentist, and came back baring some good news on a piece of paper. 1) X-ray + checkup 2)deep cleaning 3) 15 cavities fill 4)1 teeth removal 5) 3 wisdom tooth removal price = $2300 for everything that's right people, the office lady lowered my expense by $150... and the new price for EVERYTHING is $2,300. not to meantion, one of my wisdom tooth is still within the gum and in the process of erupting. What does that mean? well.. it would normally means that the OS would have to SURGICALLY remove it and thus highten the price. However, im still getting the removal of that teeth, and without any price changes whatsoever. Overall rating 5 out 5 good customer service, and everybody has a good sense of humor to begin with. the dentist respected all sorts of pain and won't hold back in applying the numbing injection when needed. They have tv within all of their working station, so you won't get bored. again, places is terrific and cheap to begin with and definitely has the ability to make me wanna come back for regular check up. Dr. Chan and her Assistant did a deep cleaning procedure on my teeth, and, not only, were they most efficient and pleasant, but, they also had a great sense of humor!
