I think if my corneas were thicker, I would have chosen SMILE instead! Although SMILE was still a flexible option, I decided to go with the traditional route since it's been around longer. My eyes rx were around -6.25 and -5.75 + astigmatism in both eyes: Cylinder -1.5 (157 axis) and -2 (036 axis). Consultation was very quick. They just do a regular eye exam and scans on your eyes. There is no "eye-touching" or dilation, so you can take yourself to the consultation with ease and it's free. I did consult a couple more places due to family referral, but decided to go for this place because the service is fantastic and staff remembers you. On the day of the procedure, the entire thing took about 1.5 hours due to waiting. But the actual procedure was only like 10 mins. The laser part was literally just a few seconds. I remember stepping into the op room and I felt a bit cold, then the staff member offered a blanket to cover me. Honestly it was extremely comfortable; being under the machine did not scare me at all and had my full trust in Dr. Lee. After the procedure, I could immediately see the staff member's name on her shirt. I was pretty shocked! It was still "blurry" due to the many eyedrops they put in your eyes during the procedure. The procedure was completely painless and I felt absolutely nothing at all, which is still shocking to me lol. FYI on the way home, the numbing started wearing off and my eyes started to water and hurt. Try your best to sleep it off and use those numbing drops the first 24 hours of post-op. At some point, you might feel a bit of pinching on your eye(s), like you're being poked by something sharp. Don't worry, it's just your nerve and part of the healing process. For me, it only lasted like 1-2 days of that poking feeling (started on the 3rd day or so). My eyes got gradually better and better after 4-5 days of post-op. After a full week, I didn't feel that poke-y feeling anymore. The other thing I like about this place is that the steroid(?) eyedrops they give you combines 2 different kinds of medication, so it's not separated into 2 bottles. I was using 4 drops a day (per eye), and has now dropped to 3 times a day after the first week of post-op. I've been instructed to use up the bottle until it runs out. Not having to use 2 different bottles makes a big difference to me! I really recommend this place! I'm currently trying to convince others to come here as well. You will not regret it! :)

Bad enough that I couldn't, say, recognize faces or drive a car without glasses or contacts. I was used to waking up with blurry vision and putting in my one-a-days, sometimes after several hours of loafing around in glasses, looking obviously ungroomed at school drop-off. But I was always curious about Lasik, and planned to get it whenever I knew I was done being pregnant. I finally got into it a few months ago and found Dr. Paul Lee and CCRS on, of all places, our very own Yelp.com (there are a lot more reviews of the Hancock Park office, but as I only went there for consults and had my procedure done here, this is where I'll leave my review). I messaged CCRS through its website and heard back almost immediately. I was able to set up a complimentary consultation less than two weeks later (and was in fact offered a time the following week), at the Hancock Park location right by my house. Unfortunately, Dr. Lee doesn't operate at that office, as it's smaller and less thoroughly equipped, but he's there a couple times a week and I've been able to schedule all of my follow-ups there, except for the one the day after my surgery. I was immediately impressed with Dr. Lee. He is an expert in his field, thoroughly knowledgeable and professional, with a kind, reassuring demeanor. He's done thousands of refractive surgeries, and you can just tell by talking to him that he knows what he's doing. I knew nothing about any of these procedures except for Lasik, and he walked me through the other options, methodically laying out the pros and cons of each one. After examining my eyes, he determined I was a good candidate for ICL, a procedure that doesn't involve altering the cornea, like Lasik. In stupid terms, I'd say ICL is like having permanent contact lenses. They're inserted in a short surgery, and they can be removed at a later date. I'd always assumed I'd need glasses again when my eyes changed in old age, but with ICL, I can actually just get new lenses. To my surprise, I was able to book the surgery itself the following week, and only delayed by another week because I needed a weekend when I could go without contact lenses in preparation for the procedure. There was a required prep appointment, but I was able to do it on the same day as the surgery. I was told to plan on being at the office for about five hours, and was done in three and a half. There was a lot of examination and numbing, much irrigating of the eyes with various liquids. Some of this was uncomfortable, and I learned the hard way that tear ducts drain directly into the back of the throat (the worst side effect of my ICL surgery was actually a lingering cough from the battery of drops). But the surgery was as fast and painless as promised, Dr. Lee narrating while I had my eyes clamped open a la Clockwork Orange. I wouldn't do it again for fun, but the whole experience was on par with an involved trip to the dentist, and they gave me Valium. My eyes were sensitive and I didn't want to open them for the rest of the day, but they didn't hurt, and I passed out super early (I think this was the Valium). I woke up the next morning with no discomfort and miraculously clear vision. I drove myself to the follow-up appointment, and other than a few nights of sleeping with goggles and a couple weeks of eyedrops, I was basically done with treatment. It's been a couple months, and the ICL has been life changing. I could not be happier with the results, and have been evangelizing the procedure to all of my friends. If you're considering refractive surgery, make an appointment with Dr. Lee and CCRS. I'm honestly mad that I waited as long as I did.

After receiving a wristband--which was the only part of the process that happened efficiently--we waited approximately 45 minutes for the first test, then another 37 minutes for the next one, followed by additional waiting for more testing and to see the doctor. It appears the office is severely overbooked. We were there for more than three hours for a scheduled appointment. I understand medical appointments can run behind, but this level of waiting and disorganization is unacceptable, especially for elderly patients. Better scheduling, communication, and consideration for patient's time are desperately needed. If you have an appointment here, bring a book, laptop, or something else to keep yourself occupied. There are no movies or shows being provided to help make the extremely long wait more bearable.

Her husband had surgery with Dr. Lu and was very satisfied. Coincidentally, both his office and the surgery center are in Arcadia, where I live. I had cataract surgery on my left eye on 2/16 and on my right eye yesterday, using an EDOF multifocal intraocular lens (paid out-of-pocket). Dr. Lu truly lived up to his reputation; he was very professional, explained things meticulously, and patiently answered all my questions. Both surgeries went very smoothly and successfully. Furthermore, Dr. Lu personally calls patients on the same day after each surgery to check on their progress. Although there are follow-up appointments the next day, his dedication and willingness to go the extra mile touched and reassured me. Dr. Lu is truly an outstanding doctor, highly trustworthy and recommended. I also want to especially mention Dr. Angela, the anesthesiologist at Specialty Medical Center, who was excellent. Her dosage and timing were very precise; I was unconscious and woke up to find the surgery already successfully completed. Praise the Lord, my vision is bright again; my eyesight has recovered very well on the first day after surgery.

The surgery was successfully performed on Friday Nov 8 & 22. Did I make the right decision? You bet I did! Along with his team at San Marino Eye, Dr Richardson's priority was my eyesight. I could wax on positively about patient access, generosity of time, professionalism, up to the minute procedures etc etc, all of which is true. However, the comment made to me by a theatre nurse, as I was in hospital recovery, sums up my whole experience perfectly, "... you were lucky having this Surgeon" I couldn't agree more!

I had cataract surgeries with Dr…read more David Yu at Huntington Eye Surgery Center in Pasadena - first on my right eye (Oct 20, 2022), then my left (Nov 10, 2022). What should have been a routine and carefully planned medical procedure became a permanent problem. Dr. Yu placed the monofocal lens intended for my left eye into my right eye. This wasn't just my opinion - he acknowledged the error himself, as did my regular eye doctor. Dr. Yu even apologized and said he hoped my eyes would adjust over time. They didn't. Now, I live with double vision at night and must wear glasses (an extra cost) to help manage a condition I didn't have before surgery. What's worse, Dr. Yu never reimbursed me for the costs of the surgery or the corrective glasses. He didn't complete his post-operative check-ins. Never made any suitable offer to rectify the situation. No follow-up. No meaningful remedy. Just silence. I've spent time and energy dealing with the effects of this preventable surgical mistake.

Then when complications (including a trip to the ER) set in and months without much progress, he blamed me, refused to listen, and said over and over "give it more time." He kept defending himself until finally when I told him I still couldn't see clearly, he said simply, "Yes you can." He failed to take responsibility. When I asked for a refund, he just laughed and said he'd think about it. But he's never tried to contact me. J & J who makes the multifocals said the only way I can get a refund is if the original surgeon removes the lenses. Bottom line: Dr. Huang seems to care more about money than the well-being of his patients. He's a good surgeon--the lenses were put in correctly--but a second doctor I went to said he "undersells" the multifocals. Now my vision is worse than before (one good thing--I no longer have cataracts) but I had to buy new reading and distance glasses. I'm out $6,000 plus another $1,300 for new glasses. Plus the time and trouble, pain and annoyance. And Dr. Huang has disappeared.

While I was here in this establishment today with my dad, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is decent. It isn't too big nor too small. Parking spots are okay as well. Establishment: I had to bring my dad here today for his follow up appointment. He has been coming to see Dr. Chao for some time, and he really likes this place. My dad said that the doctor was really patient and thorough with explaining all that goes on during a cataract surgery. He said that the doctor also took some time going over other options if he refused to undergo the cataract surgery. Due to the doctor's experience and expertise, my dad decided to go through with the surgery at Concourse Diagnostic and Surgery Center. My dad's surgery went smoothly, and his follow up appointment also went well. Overall, this was an excellent outcome. I would highly recommend Dr. Chao for anyone who is interested in getting cataract surgery. The establishment itself is very clean, neat, tidy, and organized. The security guard at the front was nice and helpful letting us know what time the office is opened and that we could wait in the lobby until they opened. The staff is very nice and helpful to their patients. Very easy to talk to them. The plus was they were able to speak Chinese (Mandarin)to my dad. The technician was efficient and checked his vision, eye pressure (with a tono pen), checking pupils, extra ocular motility (EOM) and getting a complete chief complaint and asked if reading was an issue (which is was not). The one thing I would have checked is confrontational fields, but other than that she did an excellent job. She then proceeded to dilate his pupils and explained to him about the process and the expect his near vision to be blurry due to dilation and to wear sun glasses when outside (due to increased incoming light from pupils being dilated). She performed imaging to check the macula and retina and optic nerve. We then saw Dr. Chao who is a fantastic physician performed a thorough exam and explained to my father about cataract surgery in Chinese, explained what she saw and how bad his cataracts were and asked him specific questions about his vision and discussed the different lens options available and which my father would like to receive. (Standard lens usually set for distance and would require glasses for reading or one can opt for a multifocal lens where you don't need to wear glasses but this type of lens is not covered by insurance and would be out of pocket). Dr. Chao is an ophthalmologist who specializes in Glaucoma (treats patients with high eye pressure which can lead to blindness if left untreated) and is also a cataract surgeon and comprehensive ophthalmologist (sees patients for any eye issues and can refer out to specialists as needed). Then we scheduled a surgery date and will need to see his primary care physician (PCP) for clearance will need to return for a follow up appointment to get his biometry measurements for the lens prior to surgery. My dad was happy with his first visit and looks forward to his follow up visit.

Initially reading through some of them actually made me rethink if I was at the right place. However I've been taking my dad here for years to treat his glaucoma and cataracts, and he has undergone several surgeries performed by Dr. Huang. His vision has improved tremendously compared to where he was years ago. All of the staff members in the office are friendly and patient, even when dealing with difficult situations. The lady at the front desk is very kind and always calls us ahead of time to remind us of our appointments. She seems to know most of the patients well, and we always feel welcomed when checking in. If you have elderly parents at home, you've likely experienced their stubbornness and impatience when it comes to their health; I am certainly no exception. When my dad was first diagnosed with glaucoma years ago, he was instructed to use eye drops daily. Because he couldn't "feel" the symptoms yet, he didn't think his life was being affected and unfortunately didn't follow the instructions. This is what is so scary about glaucoma - it can cause damage without you realizing it. Then when COVID hit, my dad decided to stop visiting the office entirely. As a result, a few years later, very little of his vision remained and his cataracts had worsened significantly. Seeing the progress he has made now under Dr. Huang's care is truly impressive.
