I don't believe there is an easy way to go about this when confronted with a sick pet. In our case our healthy 6 year old Rottweiler Floyd hurt his leg, when we took him in to the ER he was diagnosed with bone cancer. The options were not good, his pain level is high and we have no choice but to make the hard decision about his pain and quality of life. He knows something is up, our Pitbull knows and we are tearfully trying to get help with his transistion. This is where Fond Farewell comes in. I filled out the online form and received a quick callback. I was trying to schedule something within a day and things were going OK until the person inquired about his weight (which was on the form I filled out) he is over 100 lbs. They then offered that the doctor could help with the euthanasia but we would have to either have someone pick him up, or we would have to take him to be cremated. Nothing on the form I filled out said anything about a weight limitation. Let me say that this is not an easy decision, we are completely devastated and reaching out to get someone here is a giant and difficult step, then to leave me with the visual of our beloved Floyd laying here dead, while we either wait or put him in our car is actually an extremely traumatic visual and made a bad situation much worse. I recommend Dr Jenni highly for anyone having to let go of their furbaby family member. It is a heartbreaking experience but she makes it a bit easier and full of compassion. We adopted a senior dog, Rocky, who had emergency surgery 8 months ago for cancerous tumors but it eventually became systemic and he ended up with nodules in his lungs. In a short time he was lethargic , then loss of appetite, and his breathing labored. I wasn't going to watch him slowly suffocate and suffer. My husband and I feel so grateful to have met Dr. Jenny. Last year she helped transition our 15 year old sweet Little Mom, whose kidneys finally gave out on her. It may seem unusual to say that someone has a gift for this kind of work, but it really takes a special person to be able to maintain such a caring and warm hearted composure throughout this difficult process. Jenny is a sensitive soul, and we can't thank her enough for helping us through this. Sometimes you just need someone to talk you through it, even though you know deep down it's time. She explained everything with such tender care, and created a safe space for us where we didn't feel rushed or that she was intruding in our moments filled with grief. One year later, Little Mom's daughter had come to a point where her health took a turn for the worst, and there was no getting around what became unescapable with her heart condition. Naturally, we knew we could count on Dr. Jenny for her expertise and empathic demeanor to help us through this yet again. Jenny thinks of everything so you don't have to worry. She even had a packet of Kleenex at the ready, knowing how emotional these things get, gave us a clay imprint of Daughter's name stamped on it, and a container for a clipping of her fur. She even took the time and consideration to thoughtfully place our little girls in a basket decorated with silk flowers, and wrapped them in a blanket for transport. Death is inevitable for all of us, but it doesn't have to be traumatic, cold, and meaningless if we can help it. Dr. Jenny understands how hard it is to say goodbye to your family members, and all of her personal touches gave us a beautiful experience that we will never forget and that we know we could never get visiting a regular vet's office or ER clinic, and for that we whole heartedly thank her again and again for the service she provides. Dr. Jeni is an absolute angel! Her passion and commitment to helping our fur babies transition is paralleled to none. My beloved Bella, an almost 17-year-old shih tzu mix, was in the latter stages of canine cognitive dysfunction. She continued to lost weight in spite of eating 3 meals a day, lost bowel control, and couldn't walk on her own. Further, when awake, all she wanted to do was spin/scoot in circles and would do so until exhausted. She fought sleep, was super anxious, panted, and just couldn't relax. Her little brain told her to go and go. I was more concerned about how she would do in this process then thinking about how I was going to manage it. Enter Dr. Jeni. And, yes, her kind and gentle way of explaining everything instantly reassured me and removed my anxiety. But, most importantly, her loving energy and approach calmed my Bella. Bella actually relaxed in her arms beforehand as I needed to use the restroom. Bella was comfortable at every point in the process: during my special time with her before the 1st injection; during the 1st injection, after which she started to snore; and of course, during the last injection. It was a peaceful, serene, and beautiful process. I never felt rushed and was appreciative that I was given as much time as I needed with Bella. Bella was then placed in a cute little basket and placed securely in the front seat of Dr. Jeni's vehicle. I opted for individual cremation, an included option, and received a text this morning (Bella passed yesterday), from Dr. Jeni letting me know she had handed Bella over to AMS. I was so comforted by this in spite of the fact that my heart is aching and missing Bella. I will be eternally grateful to Dr. Jeni. I can't adequately express in words how grateful I am to Dr. Jeni. I have had to say goodbye pets before and always hated that the last thing they experienced was fear in a vet's office. Dr. Jeni made the process of saying goodbye, a lot easier for our dear Sutton and my husband and I. She came in and explained everything that was going to happen, and then stood back and gave us as much time as we (and Sutton) needed before taking that last step. I know we did the right thing and because of that, our grief is greatly reduced. Dr. Jeni has a true gift and I am so glad she was available when we needed her (on a Holiday weekend, no less). Incredible. My almost 17 year old cat whom I loved like a son needed help to transition to heaven. From the moment I met Dr Jeni, I knew I could trust her. And for good reason. She is loving, patient, caring and so incredibly respectful. She is also incredibly good at what she does and is a top notch professional doctor. What really helped me is that she genuinely respects my cat as a sentient being and has treated me and him with so much love and respect. Our sweet lab, Jack, had reached that time in his life where he struggled through the day. Dr. Jeni came to our home and spoke to our 3 boys (11-17 years old) about to what to expect. I am 60 years old and I have literally have had dozens of pets so sadly I have been down the farewell path many times.
