I also had the side pasta salad and it was so flavorful and delicious! My only critique is portion to price, especially on the pasta salad. It came in an extremely small (mouse sized almost) cup. So I was out shopping the other day and decided that I wanted a salad so I typed salad into Yelp and this was one of the options that came up. While there was only one salad on this menu everything looks really good and the reviews were great. I decided to give it a shot and I am glad I did. I was greeted when I walked in the door and I sat at a bar top stool. There are about 20 seats in the restaurant and they also do takeout orders. It seemed that it was the owner who was waiting on me I did not ask but from everything he said that was what I gathered. He asked me my name and made conversation and then addressed me by name every time he spoke to me. I ordered the "Pick 2 & a Drink" from the lunch menu. The two that I picked were a vegan gluten-free garbanzo bean soup and the Am-Asian Taco along with an iced tea. I did not know that the iced tea green tea with mint and basil but it was very interesting and refreshing. Everything was made fresh after I ordered and I really enjoyed this meal I did not leave anything on my plate. Fond is a great find! If you are looking for something off the beaten path, different, but aren't too hungry (or you have money to burn), give Fond a try. The chef/owner is really nice, he tries to create a Cheers-like atmosphere in his café. Attentive, and invests in learning your name. Since the majority of people since I've moved here have been basically the opposite of this, it was refreshing. Pros: Food I ordered Sunshine on my Shoulder, interesting ingredients and pretty delicious. Liked the flavor of the beet hummus. Took home the sliced pickles...those are fantastic! Cons: Food The portions are kinda small? And pricy for how small they are. The salad I ordered above, though delicious and worth consuming, was the size of a side salad at best. Almost like this is a tapas place. The texture of the hummus was too coarse, making it unappetizing. The soup had an overpowering taste of anise. I love Fond. They call themselves a deli, but they are so much more than that. If you're looking for a simple ham and cheese sub this is not your place. Ethan the owner is crafting masterpieces and sandwiches like you've never tasted before. Every single sandwich I have tried has been made with farm fresh ingredients and a combination of unexpected flavors. Look out for their daily specials and if you're someone who likes to try new things they tend to change their menu quite often. My favorite item I have ever tried was their French onion roast beef sub. The meat was tender and juicy, the sauerkraut not too potent and they added just enough toppings for all the flavors to perfectly complement each other. It's currently on their menu now, so this is a must try item! They also make great homemade goetta, hummus, breakfast and burgers. I can go on and on about this place, because I've truly never had something I disliked. What I also love is how you can personalize your order. If you really want to try one of their sandwiches you can ask them to remove the bread and put it on a bed of greens. Usually you'd think this would result in a substitute that doesn't taste as good, but the greens they use are so fresh and crisp that sometimes I actually prefer their greens option compared to the bread version. The best word to describe this place is simply, "WOW". There is a solid reason it has a consistent 5 star rating! I came in around lunch time on a week day and it was fairly busy, however, the owner took time to introduce himself, ask my name, and offer suggestions all while he continued to multi task waiting on others and getting food ready, impressive! Not only was the staff friendly, but the regulars eating here were quick to say hi and offer up their suggestions as well! It was like the "Cheers" of lunch joints! After much consideration, because there were so many great options, I chose the "Fabulous Kimchicken" with chips and a pickle. NOW, the pickle is extra, but my friends, it is Life. Changing. ALWAYS GET THE PICKLE! Do be warned, it has a nice little kick! They had a special of Ginger iced tea that day, as well as a coconut chip cookie (drinks and deserts rotate daily). I was also tempted by the items in the To-Go case and grabbed a container of "Down by the sea" hummus to take home, later realizing this was the best hummus I have EVER had! Despite being busy, and not the largest place, there are tons of seating options; from the counter, to regular tables, high top tables, and lots of nice outdoor tables you wont wait to sit very long! They have a great mission of using as many farm to table ingredients as they can, and this is prominently displayed on a large board. The boyfriend and I were in the neighborhood feigning for some grub before our trip to Pittsburgh. As soon as I walked in we were greeted by Ethan, he was so nice, asked all of the right questions and even helped me pick out what I wanted. I am vegan, boyfriend is not, so it's a great place to bring your meat loving family and still have plenty of options for you. They also sell their vegan meat, which I thought was quite interesting, a deli vibe for vegans. I ordered the Vegan Tacos and they did not disappoint. We grabbed it to-go and when I unwrapped the packaging it was not messy, easy to eat. You'd think to-go tacos would be difficult but their attention to detail in to-go wrapping really made a difference, especially since we're driving for a while. The flavor was out of this world, the slaw was crispy and tangy with pickled jalapeños on top, their faux taco meat was satisfying, but their hummus was what kept me shoving my face. I am fond of Fond. It has a good simple menu. This cafe gets most of its products from local sources. It has a good amount of healthy items. There's many good choices for vegetarians. I had the Namaste Tacos. It's about $10 for this. The food is worth it though. It comes with a side of kettle chips. The seitan was cooked just enough so it wasn't too chewy like it might be sometimes. It was kind of a light meal, but it was big on taste at least. The owner Ethan is very helpful if you are there for the first time. It has a few other items I would like to try the next time I'm around here. It has a breakfast menu, but the best food is at lunch. What an amazing spot! I grabbed a quick breakfast here a few months ago, but lunch is my thang! I wasn't sure what to order, between the special and a regular menu item. Fond has been on my list of places to try for some time now. I'm so glad I was finally able to try it out! Fond is a tiny little joint with mismatched chairs, chalkboard menus, and eclectic charm. It honestly reminds me of a mom & pop shop you'd find in the town neighboring a campground--in all the best ways. The woman helping us navigate the menu was kind and warm. Remarkable customer service. From looking at Yelp photos, I was under the impression that they only served a few options each day. They actually have a few chalkboards full of options. They also have a deli counter with things like potato salad and drinks. We tried the "I Heart Reuben" sandwich which is only available on Thursdays. I found the sandwich to be quite tasty, but a tad bit too salty. Our sandwich was paired with potato chips. The portions are generous; my husband and I were able to split a sandwich comfortably. We also tried the potato salad which was flavorful and unique, but again a bit salty. I will gladly return and wouldn't mind trying one of their staple items. Menu items are a tad pricey, but I think it's well worth it as you're getting generous portion sizes and local ingredients. They do charge $0.50 to "rent" a glass to get water. No ice. My mother had an extended stay at Bethesda North Hospital so one day my husband ventured out to find something other than hospital food. Yelp is our go-to for neighborhood hidden treasures... and boy did he find one in Fond!! We are a family who loves great food!! Our initial visit he ordered me some type fish sandwich, which was very flavorful and perfectly seasoned.. he ordered himself a Chickadee chicken sandwich and made the mistake of offering a bite to me. I'm not sure if Jesus made the sandwich or they prayed over it A LOT.. but everything about it was heavenly. The chicken was a perfect golden brown, and the GREEN pesto slaw was AMAZING. Fresh and fragrant and a delightful crunch. I found myself reaching for a fork to ensure I consumed every bit of the slaw overflowing from the sandwich. I spent many days wanting to go back, but my mom checked out of the hospital sooner than expected and we live about 40 minutes away. Fast forward a month. We ventured out to the store in Oakley. The menu is much different, but still very creative. I ordered a vegetarian option here.. the Pita, Paul, and Mary, and hubby the Tuna (something or other). My PP&M was a mesh of goodness with the lemon hummus, homemade veggie meat, and jalapeño slaw. Hubby enjoyed his tuna as well. The people in each location were sooo nice, but the food is so good that they didn't even have to be and we'd go back. It's no wonder Fond has earned so many perfect 5-star reviews. My experience at Fond was certainly no exception. Fond is small and tucked away in a small strip mall. When I walked through the front door with a friend, we were quickly greeted with a warm "Hi, welcome to Fond, I'm Elaine. What are your names?" After we introduced ourselves, Elaine guided us through the menu and made some recommendations. She was warm and inviting and told us about their soon-to-be open location in Oakley. The food was nothing short of remarkable. I ordered the chicken tacos, but was able to sample the watermelon gazpacho and a chicken salad as well. The chicken tacos, topped with a slaw and served in the most delicious tortilla shell I've ever had, were incredible. The slaw and chicken were so fresh. You could really tell that Fond cares about the ingredients they use. The gazpacho was also a must-try. On a hot summer day, this would the bees-knees. Refreshing feels like such a weak word to describe this cold soup. Fond...I'm blown away. This was hands-down the best restaurant experience I've had in a long time. This place is SO worth the trip. What a cool spot we found. (Yeah, I know they weren't lost!) Not the usual lunch fare. My Urban Sombrero was excellent... the chicken tortilla "patty" was unexpected in that I expected more of tortilla crusted breast rather than a mixed patty. It was moist and hearty. Fond is a convenient lunch spot that lived up to the hype. It's not huge so there aren't a bunch of tables but I've always been able to find a spot. As others mentioned everyone is very nice and welcoming. Immediately on entry they ask your name and for the rest of the visit I was always addressed by my name which is a nice touch. I've been here twice - first I got the melted which I liked and the second time I got the chicken tacos which I didn't like quite as much. They were a bit too overwhelmed by the slaw so I felt like I got quite a few bites of just slaw before hitting the chicken. I will definitely be back though to try other items. I finished both meals with cookies which was probably the highlight of my meal. They don't have the usual cookie consistency but I'm a huge fan.
