Prime rib grilled cheese and fries

In all the years I've lived in Batavia, I've never been here. Maybe it was the name, location? I don't know. But clearly I've been sleeping on this place. The menu is super overwhelming. And does make you wonder how they could possibly serve such a wide variety of food "freshly made". We decided to stick to that day's special. Boy am I glad I did. Prime rib grilled cheese with horsey sauce was exceptional. Service was fantastic. We have been trying not to eat out as often as we used to but this place will definitely be on my rotation when we do.

Of all the years I've passed this place, I've never eaten here. Until yesterday. Not at all what I expected. Did you know they serve wine? And beer? Yea. And check out the gigantic slices of baklava. Yea. I NEVER order cheeseburgers when I'm out to eat (weirdo, I know) but something told me to order that yesterday. Did not disappoint in any way. This place is clean, plenty of parking, food was severed very fast and service was amazing. I'm not in this area often but when I get this way, I'll be excited about trying this place again. A really great surprise right off the highway.

You are encouraged to order ahead online (which must be done by 9am Sundays for the Wed pickup). They do have some stuff for onsite purchase, but it is first come first serve! My favorite Blue Oven product has always been the English Muffin. Second to that is any croissant they make. Recently I tried the almond croissant and coconut croissant which is now my #1 flavor. They are huge, flaky, buttery, and have yumminess in the center! I finally got to try one of their scones, which has now ruined me for any other scones... spinach cheddar, wow. Finally my newest favorite item is their Spinach Kale pesto bread with cheese. I look forward to Wednesdays just for this bread! Don't forget the Italian hub cap which is huge and a bread staple! I like it with an olive oil dip or garlic butter! Beyond their goodies, for the mini market they have teamed up with Roothouse Aquaponics to provide greens, and Old Dutch Farm to provide meat, poultry, eggs, and maple syrup! All the businesses accept card (some for a small fee) or cash. They all also take pre-orders on their websites! Beyond this location, you can find Blue Oven goodies at such places as Jungle Jims, ETC produce, and more! Check their website for details!

I don't expect natural, homemade food to last forever, but I do expect it to stay fresh for longer than two days. Last week, I purchased Froagies as well, and they became moldy four days later. When fresh, the Froagies are delightful, but I certainly can't eat an entire package before it goes bad. Splurging on $6.00 bread that ends up in the trash bin makes me cringe. Perhaps these need to be packaged differently? Perhaps smaller portions need to be offered? The other bread I purchased in big, round loaves is still fresh and going strong. As much as I loved those Froagies, sadly, I won't be buying any more.

I stopped in this past week with my daughter and granddaughter because we had been wanting to try this place for a while. My daughter ordered an Iced Latte with Raspberry and Vanilla. I ordered a Chai hot tea. My daughter ordered the giant Chocolate Chip Cookie and I ordered a Smoked Gouda and Chive scone. I also purchased a bag of their House Blend coffee beans to go. The chocolate chip cookie is good. Crispy on the outside. Gooey chocolate inside and the salt on top sets it off. My daughter thought her coffee "had potential" but it had too many pumps of the flavorings and it had overpowered the drink. I tasted it and I didn't find it drinkable the way it was made. She didn't finish it. My Chai tasted just like a gingerbread cookie. Like a winter flavored hot drink. Not like any chai I've ever had anywhere or made at home. I thought the flavor was ok but not what I expected or wanted. I would not order it again. The scone, as my daughter said of her coffee, had potential. But it was very, very dry and dense. I made the house coffee at home and was surprised to see how thin and weak it looked in the pot. The taste was the same. I will try doubling the amount that I typically use to see if that improves the taste but I wouldn't purchase the beans again. We will stop in again sometime and try some other things on the menu.

I went in just needing a caffeine boost, but ended up staying for lunch because I was pleasantly surprised by how many good food options they had. I started with a latte with vanilla and macadamia milk. They offer real milk, oat milk, and macadamia milk. The latte was delicious and came out at the perfect temperature. The person I was with got an Earl Grey that was equally good, and they also do full pots of tea if you want to sit and stay awhile. For lunch, I got an egg salad sandwich on gluten-free sourdough bread that's made in house. It felt healthy and filling, and I paired it with the carrot miso soup, which was also gluten free and really comforting. There was a small mix up with my friend's order and they didn't get exactly what they asked for, but honestly it was fine. I love supporting small businesses, and you could tell everyone was trying hard. The ambiance is absolutely adorable. It looks like they thrifted a lot of the décor. It's Peanuts/Snoopy themed, which was so cute and a little Hallmark-movie cozy. The seating was a mix of hardwood tables with mismatched chairs, bright and sunshiny with lots of natural light, and it just felt welcoming. The staff were wonderful. The worker helping us was so friendly and careful about my food allergy questions, running back to the kitchen to double check at every question so there were no mistakes. Someone I assume was the owner or manager came around to check on every table, which made the whole place feel very personal and cared for. Overall, I absolutely loved this café. I'll definitely be back, and honestly I hope they get enough love to expand someday because spots like this make a community feel special.

Locally raised meat, locally grown vegetables, and even their own house-made bread. You can taste the care in every bite. I ordered the Brunch Burger, and it was outstanding. Two grass-fed beef smash patties, grilled to perfection, topped with a farm-raised egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion, all stacked on a fresh, house-made brioche bun. Even as a smash burger, it was still incredibly juicy and flavorful. It came with fresh-cut fries that were crisp, hot, and the perfect side. What really impressed me, though, was their Pay It Forward menu. For $15, you can pay for a meal for someone in need. That's not just good food -- that's a business looking out for its community, and I respect that. If you're looking for a great smash burger from a place doing things the right way, Harvester Farm to Table is absolutely worth the drive to Blanchester, Ohio. This is farm-to-table done right.

My second visit ... a 4-star experience…read more I sat in the dining room this visit - restrained rural chic. Good job. It is all hard surfaces and the music was a tad too loud (reduced upon request) and the two young infants were busy being infants ... cranky/noisy. Jayla was our server. Prompt and appropriately engaging and attentive. Unlike the prior visit, the chili was sufficiently warm when served and the spice level has improved, kind'a, sort'a like Wendy's spice level, but more flavorful - that is intended as a compliment. My buddy ordered the Italian sandwich w/roasted vegetables. The sandwich struck me as small-ish. The portion of roasted vegetables was generous. He liked both. The only disappointment this visit ... the hamburger bun utterly disintegrated after the third bite. They are proud that everything is scratch-made in house ... but this bun was a fail. I finished my burger w/fork and knife. When cashing out, the manager apologized and admitted that they had not sufficiently proofed the dough. Um; okay, so why serve a known problem? Minus 1-star. First visit: Yelp says that 3-stars is Okay. This was a 2.5-star experience that I am forgiving and rounding up to 3-stars. I sat at the counter to better gauge the tempo. The server arrived promptly with a menu, and my water appeared swiftly. It was refilled once by staff, twice by me. Inattention? Training? I ordered the single patty burger and upgraded the fries to a crock of chili. The chili was what I would describe as Ohio-mild. Not bland, just mild seasoning. The ingredients included beans (yay!) and the texture was good. The bad news: It was not hot. Not even warm. Mostly lukewarm, but four spoonfuls were cold. Yes, cold. And nobody' ever inquired if I was happy with the chili - or the burger. The menu mentions "weekly soup special." Chili was the weekly special. I am guessing that a pot of chili is kept in the cooler and only warmed(? microwaved?) when ordered. In the pic you will The burger is excellent. It was properly seasoned (not over- salted). The sesame bun was expertly toasted. The sauce is tasty and the portion was just right. The greens were a spring mix - another miss. The burger deserves cool crisp lettuce. I was not asked how I wanted the burger cooked ... it is a hand-formed thin patty, cooked on a flat top. It arrived well done, but not dried out. I would have preferred medium-rare, but was never asked. That said, I would happily order the burger again, but there is so much more on the menu that I want to try. The fries. I upgraded from fries to the chili for $2. Yet fries were also served. I am not a fries guy, primarily because I don't care for salt or carbs. These were made in house and if you like salted fries, you will probably be VERY happy with them. The ambiance is rural chic, nicely done and not what I expected to find in Blanchester. The woman working the register asked me to pay before my burger/entree was served. When I deferred, explaining that I would pay after my burger was served and consumed, she asked the kitchen about my burger and the reply from the grill suggested that my order was forgotten. When it arrived, it included fries that it should not have been plated (paid $2 to upgrade to chili. Summary: Great space. Great recipes. Great ingredients. Too many people/process problems. Will I return? Yes. I want to see if the problems are an aberration or endemic.

It looked so good and tasted even better! The vegetables in it were well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The cheese and sauce on top complemented all the flavors very well. And the eggs themselves that made the base were perfectly done. I ate it all and left feeling so full and happy. I also have to talk about the sides. The potato pancakes are heavenly, and I could make a meal out of just them. The outsides are perfectly crispy and the inside melts in your mouth. I am literally still thinking about them. And we both ordered the burgers, Animal Style - with pickles. The burgers come with fries or for an up-charge of $2.00, onion rings. I did the onion rings. I probably wouldn't order the dip again. The chips seemed to be fresh made and were crispy, hot and salty. The dip had a decent flavor but was somehow cold throughout while having the outside edges overcooked, chewy and stuck to the foil pan, leaving parts of it inedible. We expected better for a $10 app. The burgers were really good! They are double burgers but it's still only 1/4 pound of meat. They're thin smash burgers. Animal style is grilled onions and a house burger sauce. There was a little too much bun but the burgers were good and we finished them. The fries were ok. Not bad. But the onion rings were awful. They're frozen onion rings and they were served very, very overcooked. We both tried them and left them because they were so overcooked. And there was only 6 of overcooked onion rings for the up-charge of $2.00. I wouldn't order them again. The back patio area is large. There is plenty of space for eating with several tables, a stage/bandstand, an outdoor bar area, a play area for children with a ship shaped jungle gym, and large grass area. The service was friendly and quick. There is a surcharge for using a credit card. I didn't know that or I would've paid cash. I will not pay an extra charge for buying something from a business.
