I have worked with more than a dozen dentists in my life, none compare to Dr Fong! I have learned more about my teath and how to care for them from my few visits to him than all other dentists combined. He is efficient but infectiously positive and personsal. The whole experience is amazing; no waiting, a staff that are proud and happy to be there, the evaluations are thoughtful and thorough. Finding a dentist you trust and would stay with for a while, is actually quite challenging. I am glad that my sister had recommended this office and that I will be staying with Dr. Megan Fong and her office for the years ahead, including sending rest of my family here. Why? At my first visit, Dr. Megan Fong suggested something which may be the root cause of my teeth deterioration. For the past decades, the various dentists I had, more or less said "you grind your teeth, and we would like that you consider buying a personalized night guard here." Dr. Megan handed me a mirror, explained and convinced me that the deterioration isn't quite resulted from grinding. I came for my treatment appointment. We started by confirming the teeth to work on, and I agreed with Dr. Megan that we ought to work on 2 more. She was patient the whole time (was indeed a long treatment appointment), dividing her work into phases and telling me what she will be doing (have you heard of "shampooing" and "polishing"?). I also did not have to use any anesthesia, like Dr. Megan had correctly expected. Overall, great experience at this place and I already set up the 2 appointments for family members. Only hint: The office does take lunch hour. Do not call the office too close to the lunch hour. read more

Yelpers, you know I don't joke. Well, maybe sometimes, but when I feel compelled to give a FIVE STAR, you know it's coming from down deep. Dr. Fong is almost indescribable. He's that good. I'll do my best. He likes my Ducati. Heartwarming. He doesn't try to convince you to replace all your fillings. Honesty, what? I barely recognize it anymore. He tells you exactly what the options are, what he can, and cannot do, and when he does his thang, you know it'll be done right. My partner and his family have been Dr. Fong's patients for roughly TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS. I started with Dr. Fong in the mid 00's. Let that sink in. You've found your dentist. PS - his staff are in-freakin-credible. You just want to hug Ericka, Angel, et al.... but if you're lucky enough to get Nadine for your hygienist, you'll know exactly what I mean. Dr. Fong was recommended to me by family and friends, and it was the best suggestion I've ever received! I'm just upset I didn't hear about him sooner! I used to dread coming to the dentist but Dr. Fong has this great friendly attitude and atmosphere of his office that is warm and welcoming. My fear of the dentist has ended ever since I began seeing him for the past year. I actually can say I like my dentist and love going to appointments (which is weird to say, but so true). But if you've been seen by Dr. Fong , you know what I'm talking about. He is very kind and pays attention to little details about his patients even if he hasn't seen him/her in 6 months. Dr. Fong was recommended to me by a friend, and I have been going for my twice annual cleaning for 9 years. Every hygienist I have seen over the years is always incredibly nice and gentle. As for the cleanings, they definitely do a more thorough job than my childhood dentist. Appointments are always on time, and the staff pay attention to minor details about conversations from 6 months before. I can't say enough good things about this office and the staff. I recently cracked a tooth and developed a cavity, and Dr. Fong filled it the same day I went in to get it checked out, and with NO PAIN. He had to do quite a bit of drilling and in the end the filling was huge, but it was easy and painless. Dr. Fong has never tried to sell me ANYTHING above what I went in for, and I appreciate him and his staff for that. I have heard horror stories from other places. read more

The office manager and policies at this practice takes a lot of patience to deal with. I called 6 months ago for an appointment for my daughter that's supposed to occur next week. She only needed a cleaning because had just had an exam at her previous dentist. The office manager was very inflexible saying that their policy was that one could not go in for a cleaning only, without an exam, for new patients. She did not give a cogent reason why they had that limitation. If I want to take responsibility for not getting an exam every 6 months, I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to. Then, just this week, which is 1 week before the appointment, she calls and tells me that she hadn't scheduled the exam, only the cleaning (oops), and wondered if I could bring my daughter in 30 minutes earlier. I said no, because I'd have to pull her out of school early if so. I explained also that I had scheduled orthodontist appointments around this dental appointment to remove the wire on her braces for easier cleaning, and that it would be a big hassle to re-schedule these 3 appointments so late in the game. I had scheduled this appointment 6 months ago precisely because I wanted a good time that wouldn't require missing school and would allow the orthodontist to remove the wire before the appointment and replace the wire after the appointment. The office manager said that if I was going to be this inflexible, then they don't want me as a patient (or a patient's parent). Needless to say, I am very disappointed by the office staff and their unprofessionalism in getting routine things done well like scheduling. I will cancel this appointment and find a better dentist elsewhere. read more

Dr Fong is the best dentist I have ever had. I recently went to another dentist (not my first choice, but would have been financially beneficial to me) and realized that going to another dentist to save a buck was a bad plan, it was a bad experience. Dr Fong and all of his staff are very friendly and professional and do excellent work. Even though we only get seen twice a year, he remembers you and the conversations you've had with him, which tells me he really cares about his patients. He always remembers things about what his patients are interested in. He has a remarkable support staff who are always helpful and caring. I drive 50 miles from Berkeley to Sunnyvale for his service, and it's worth the trip. I shopped for other dentists, and they universally found "problems" that didn't really need fixing, from the "replace mercury fillings" scam to bogus cavities to crowns due to "cracks" in molars (which Dr. Fong said are normal). He's the ONLY one I found with a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy along with all the other fine qualities elucidated above. That's what makes the 100-mile round trip worth it: total trust. read more

The folks here are all very nice and friendly. If you only need your teeth cleaned twice a year and don't mind if the cleanings aren't super thorough, you'll probably be fine. The first issue was that they snail mailed a reminder card-- the only notice that they'd changed a previously scheduled appointment date and time. (Usually a call is also appreciated.) The cleanings got less thorough over five years. The final straw was hearing that gum irritation was due to a retainer when it was actually the result of lousy cleanings. Moving on... read more
