I understand that the server was taking orders, being the bartender, and delivering meals, but there were times where we needed something and never got service. The food was delicious! For the price of the meals, your portions are a lot. I love food, but I couldn't even make it halfway through my meal. We were immediately greeted and seated, The wait staff and host were very friendly and polite. We started with egg rolls which were sliced and served with two sauces. The sauces compliment the egg rolls very well. We both ordered the General Tao Chicken, it is amazing at how many different ways it is spelt. My first takeaway is that there are too many gringos working here. With that in mind, my server was efficient enough for my liking. However, the food is far from a good value for what you get. Entrees hover around $14...I ordered the Peking Chicken. Lightly breaded was accurate...the breading peeled right off. Spicy was not at all spicy, despite choosing the second spiciest option they had. Additionally, the chicken itself had no flavor at all. Dish was very boring--it would be better served if the meat and broccoli was tossed in sauce and not merely glopped on top. I did enjoy the egg rolls--they had a homemade taste to them. The hot mustard was very good. Tons of heat. However, I can't say it was worth my $20+tip. We haven't gone back to Fong's in a while, but since I was hungry and in the neighborhood I decided to give it a try. I ordered 2 Sweet & Sour Chicken Dinners to go. It came in the 5 unmarked "old style" cartons and one containing the Sweet & Sour Sauce wasn't closed adequately, so it leaked all over inside the bag, making a big mess of everything. It came by default with white rice, which I didn't even think to ask to substitute for either fried rice or Lo mein noodles. Because the chicken & sauce were packed separately, the chicken seemed really dry when recombined. The final taste was okay, but for $14 each compared to $7 at Hy-Vee for a meal with an egg roll and the choices above, I don't feel like I'll be going back. read more

I really hate to say, but this is not like the Fong's old place. I usually rate a Chinese restaurant by their WALNUT SHRIMP, but mot maany places offer this. I ordered (with three other there), from a disinterested server, and I got a rather tasteless souce but ample quantity of shrimp, My opinion is a 2 out of 5, however the chicken lomein (wife had) wass reasonably good, with angle hair type noodles. The place was very dark with few customers, we there at 6 on a Sat nite, Maybe locals know the food? There is another Fong's in Savage, but do not have a bar, have not visited to give any opinion. I travel frequently and have experienced many different Asian restaurants which have been one of my favorite restaurants in general. Unfortunately my experience at Fong's did not go well. I was seated at the back of the restaurant which was clean and inviting. I ordered the buffet and noticed most of the pans of food were nearly empty and the food in them looked like it had been there awhile. I was told that they would refresh the food shortly. I waited about 15 minutes after asking about the buffet and noticed that none of the food choices had been refreshed and some were not available at all. I asked again about refilling the buffet and was told that they would do so. Being hungry, I sampled the lomein noodles which were very dry after having sat for sometime under the warming light on the buffet. This was the case for most of the items available on the buffet. After about 30 minutes no items were refreshed on the buffet. As far as Asian restaurants go I understand that flavors do vary and each restaurant is different. Fong's food is very different. By the end of our meal several members of my group were disappointed with the overall quality of the food and service while dining. Others in my group had ordered regular menu items which eventually were shared among our group as these too were not very appealing. My overall experience reminded me of what one would expect if they went to a restaurant 10 minutes before closing time, except this was lunchtime. read more

Hands down the best Chinese food I've eaten, from the flavor yo the vast menu selections. This is one of the few restaurants that will custom your meal to you dietary needs. This is the worst Chinese food my family and I have had since moving to the Midwest a few years ago! I am so sorry, but if you think this food is food or even close to good American Chinese, please go 20 minutes to the cities! Also try some traditional Chinese dim sum or Korean food, your taste buds will thank you after eating this stuff... We ordered Peking Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, Sesame Pork and a side of lo mein noodles. I tried to be optimistic when we opened things up and saw separate containers of sauce for both the chicken and pork...always a bad sign! Things just got worse from there. Chicken was over fried and dry, even after dumping the sauce on it. The sesame pork were huge balls of dry fried pork and the sauce was disgusting...a cola sauce not a hoisin sauce! At least the kids ate the fried rice and noodles, but the fried rice was so dry... Called and spoke to Steve, a manager, who said that they don't do the traditional thinly sliced sesame pork or hoisin sauce. He was nice enough on the phone and didn't hesitate to say he would refund the pork. Must get these calls a lot. Hopefully he will follow through and refund at least the money for the pork. I really wasn't very impressed with the food here. I got the seafood treasures in a Phoenix nest... which essentially is a bunch of seafood on a bed of shoe string potatoes. It was really quite bland. The person I went with was not impressed with his food either... he got orange chicken, which he requested to be very spicy. (This is indicated as a spicy item on the menu anyways.) Well, it was not spicy at all, I tried it too. My friend said it left a bad taste in his mouth. Also, I thought that the rice was fairly dry. Our waitress was nice, but unattentive. Overall, I'd say there are much better eating establishments than this place. read more

I grew up eating Fongs with my family. Have been going for almost 15 years, and went today for the first time in probably 5+ years. It was very nostalgic being there!! The food tasted exactly the same as I remember -- so so good!!!!! I got egg rolls, sesame chicken, and pork wonton soup. There egg rolls are the best ever, I love them so much!!!!! The soup was amazing, as was the sesame chicken!!!! I have moved away from Prior Lake, even out of state for a while, and I almost never eat Chinese food because nothing is as good as Fongs! Love the place and I will be back to show my bf and to get him some cream cheese wontons!! (Which are also the best ever!!!) Ps, hello to Leo and Cindy. I remember you guys from when I was growing up!! My dad died of stomach cancer in 2007 and he loved you guys and your restaurant!! Nice people, fair prices, and just ok Chinese food. Not very strong flavors, just bland if you like flavors like sesame chicken, orange chicken, Kung pao, or other similar flavors. Okay, do yourself a favor and drive in the complete opposite direction of this place! I would pick food court Chinese over this place and I'm not a fan of food courts by any stretch. I gave in to trying this place because the weather out told me not to drive too far from home. However, it would be worth the drive through hail and sleet, if I really craved Chinese again, to head to another location. The fried rice was not fried, just oily. The "spicy" chicken was bland, the beef dish was mostly bell peppers, and the tea....well, it wasn't even tea, just weird tasting hot water. Our community deserves better! read more

Just spent $100 for the worst lunch. They are clearly using frozen egg rolls and potstickers. The egg rolls use to be great, not anymore. They were tasteless, the potstickers were so rubbery I threw them out. We also had chicken lomein, which had no flavor and shrimp that must have been triple dipped in the breading it was so thick, it didn't get cooked all the way through. Our family loves Fong's. Great pork fried rice. Excellent chicken egg foo young. We also love their eggs rolls, cream cheese wantons. Their 5-spice wings are full for flavor with no heat. The regular wings are crispy and fresh. Yum! Buffet is a good value too. The owners are on-site and care about their customers. Their longstanding staff is always on point. I don't know if this is worst Chinese food I've ever had....but it has to be close. Second time I've tried Fong's, first time it was bad as well, but though just maybe it was the dish I ordered. Unfortunately this time it was take out for 10 people. I did not try every thing, just the chicken and vegetables, beef and broccoli and fried rice. Had to dump my plate. Ingredients seem of poor quality and flavor was just off. Such a bummer. My 82 year old Dad said he didn't think it was awful. In fairness he's not known for his discriminating palate. We have been going here for years. We love Fongs! This past weekend we had my parents anniversary party at the event center of Fongs with 50 people in attendance. It was perfect!! Leo & Cindy are great & so accommodating. Everyone was commenting how wonderful the place was. The food is great & the service was fabulous! Everyone was so helpful setting up. It's really a sad day to have to write this review. I used to brag that we had a great choice for Chinese food here in Prior lake. I understand the changing times and increasing food costs but how do you simultaneously deliver such a poor product. I ordered shrimp egg foo young and upgraded to fried rice instead of regular rice. got home and to my amazement, or not, the rice was simply regular rice with soy sauce.This is ridiculous, their fried rice was the best I'd ever had and to drop the ball on something so simple is sad. I ate here pretty regularly for long time and have to say that the increase in price, poor quality of food and decreased portions are unfortunate. This isn't the first disappointment, it's the one that changed my mind, I WILL NOT eat there again!!!!! The decor is right out of a classic 70s Chinese restaurant, which is kind of charming in a retro kind of way. It was clean and moderately busy for a week night. The staff was very polite and knowledgable about the menu. I don't like it when the server is constantly checking in, and these guys did a great job of keeping their distance. It took a little longer than expected for the food, but it was presented nicely and hot. The noodles were fantastic and everything else- chicken, vegetables, were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The only issue I had was the prices. They seemed awfully high. Super Dragon up the road has takeout of the same caliber for half the price. They really do have high quality Chinese cuisine and, a very nice bar which I wish I could take advantage of during happy hour. It is a real pity that the customer service is not as good as the food. This was our go to place for all chinese for a long time. But, over the last year we have had major problems 3 times when paying via credit card. Double charges that do not disappear without calling to complain. This last time our charge was $25 and there was an additional charge of $48.97. When we called to speak to a manage we got Leo.... Come to find out, Leo is the stores owner. And he was the most rude, unpleasant D bag I have ever had the misfortune to speak to......I could hear him plain as day across the room when my wife called to try and explain what we were seeing on our account (the odd $48+ charge).....he repeatedly cut her off, spoke over her and was so rude that I took the phone when I could no longer stomach someone speaking to my wife in that manor. He started screaming and talking over me and eventually hung up without resolving the matter in the least. Watch your charges if you go there. And do not expect any help when they mess up because you are on your own. They do not care if you return. Leo is a disgusting person and I pity anyone who has to deal with him. ****Update*****So, after I called them and complained about the bill and had Leo hang up on me, guess what this wonderful person did? Leo called the police and said I was harrassing them and he was frightened for his safety. After explain the situation to the officer who called me on the phone (who also laughed it off as a foolish businessmen trying to save face) he closed the report. Appearently the officer in question also agrees that a call to have my funds returned to my account is not only reasonable, but NOT harrassment. read more

After giving person on phone my credit card information no less than four times, I was called back and told my Platinuam Am Ex credit card was invalid. I knew this to not be true, so gave it to her an additional three times! Every time she told me again that there was something wrong with my card. Asked to speak to someone else and once again he entered it wrong saying it was invalid. I told them this was ridiculous and stated it again. He finally typed it correctly and it went thru. Icing on the cake, he then told me I should relax. Seriously. I was basically accused of using an invalid card -- numerous times -- had to waste 10 minutes of my time for something that should've taken 30 seconds and then on top of that was treated rudely. The sauces they use do not taste Asian! They are heavy and thick. I am not sure what I was tasting. It tasted like a heavy Worcestershire sauce, yuck. My daughter was really displeased. I tried Wong's a few years ago and then it was not good. It is NOT like the food at David Fongs in Bloomington. I would not recommend Fong's in Prior Lake. The Restaurant is clean and appealing but the food needs help so it tastes more like Asian food. read more
