Stopped in for subs but once we saw they had pizza slices, we got that instead. My partner got the thin sliced pepperoni, described it as "fine". Said she didn't expect it to be incredible or anything since this place is clearly about their sandwiches. I got a slice of deep dish- which i really enjoyed. The sauce was a little more bland than I prefer, but i did enjoy it. Overall, good experience. Tasty pizza, clean place, fast moving, prices are fair. We will be back and will probably also try some subs!

Classic sub spot with unbeatable prices. Really enjoyed the flexibility of size / sub toppings you get here. Clean area and staff are friendly! Only reason for four stars (& this may be user error on my part), but they go a little heavy with the oil topping so I'd suggest saying light (or no oil) if you don't want your sub to glisten as much as mine :)

I ordered an Italian sandwich from here and it was very good. I liked how much meat was packed into the sandwich. I ordered through DoorDash and pickup was easy, and the staff was friendly. I would recommend people try out this shop.

Some of the best Italian sandwiches in the City of Chicago can be found in this charming hidden Italian deli and grocery store. Very fresh luncheon meat, delicious bread (crunchy on outside, chewy in the inside). Each bite is perfection.

Tour at UIC then a special treat. Great sandwiches and cool Italian vibe. Highly recommend. Service was fast and the line gets long fast.

Loved this place! Tucked away in a neat little. Chicago neighborhood.....the sandwiches here are fantastic. When the cops are in line getting their lunch here....you know you're at the right place to eat! Great place....absolutely great place!

Best sub in Chicago. I've had them all and this is the best sub in chicago. I travel all over the country for work and always get an Italian sandwich for lunches and every single time, this sandwich trumps the others. The bread is amazing (not their's) and their meat is fresh. I hate that I went to Bari and Vinnie's so much prior to finding Fontanos - but I'm never going anywhere else. It's also extremely quick - quicker than Jimmy John's.

great sandwich, very authentic italian deli atmosphere. It felt very local and historic, i loved the decor. I had the wiseguy and it was excellent, i loved the different size bread options. got that baby fully loaded with everything but cucumbers. 8/10 on the sandwich everything was great except the bread could have been less generic. also some more options for bread would be nice. The oil and vinegar was the highlight, and it really cut through the grease well and a large 10 inch sub didn't have me leaving holding my stomach. Overall a great experience and sandwich that i'd recommend!

My first time here & I was not disappointed. They're generous with the meat and toppings and the guys making my sandwich were super nice. Service was nonexistent at the register but I didn't expect much anyways so it didn't bother me. I dined in and surprisingly it never got too packed. It is a market as well but it's cozy and super easy to navigate.

You can't beat this place. My favorite sub place - been dining here since 1984. The store has changed a bit over the years transitioning into more of a restaurant than a corner store - but the phenomenal subs have not changed. It is a must visit - best subs in Chicago!

Create Your Own Sub did not disappoint, appreciate the meat/cheese/veggie/oil ratios. Highly recommend you keep it classic with a MoleCola which isn't found in most places!

They accommodated my large party and were incredibly patient throughout all of our planning and discussions. I'm truly grateful for how well they took care of us. Everyone enjoyed their food, and the customer service went above and beyond our expectations. As an added bonus, you can validate your parking at the lot across the street, and the prices are very reasonable. I was so excited to try their turkey burger and hand cut sweet potato fries, and they did NOT disappoint. My husband and I wanted to split the Brussels sprout salad, and the team split it for us! It was such a courteous and thoughtful touch; and it was absolutely phenomenal!!! So flavorful and filling... I barely got my turkey burger down. :) I never nabbed a photo of the turkey burger because I ATE IT! I got it on a gluten free bun (GF foodie here) and it was still great. The fries warmed me from the inside out: imperfectly cut, delicious, and quickly became my new comfort or food. The staff was absolutely out of sight; kind, attentive and took care of very detail. The ambiance of the bar opening to the street on the perfect night was the perfect touch; family-friendly but still open enough for everyone to enjoy their meal. I'd definitely go back.

No one fits and you end up standing next to a revolving door that tries to hit you every time someone comes in. They also have a tiny waiting area in a walled off space on the side but they decided to put a table there too. Genius (not really). Be ready to wait because for some reason everyone decided this was a hot spot. Forget getting there after 9am if you want to wait less than 45-60 minutes. The tables are jammed together, the service is SLOW and the food is expensive and really not all that special. Save time and money and go somewhere else.
