Rude people place is dated food not that great maybe thats why they never open full time

We've eaten here twice now and each time we have had a really positive experience. The to-go experience is very smooth. They have us wait in our cars and will bring the food to us. The food is packed in a very thoughtful manner with side salads, sauces, and utensils all packed away securely. The eel rice was delicious with a generous amount of eel. But the best part of the dishes I've had at foo foo tei is the rice!!! Nothing beats the authentic short-grained japanese rice and they just makes everything taste so much better. I've also had the curry omurice with a heaping amount of curry sauce over omurice. Super delicious. The last thing we tried is the mixed tempera rice. The temperature travelled well and was still crispy when we got home. The dipping sauce is super delicious and was a winning combo with the tempura and rice. Can't wait to come back soon! read more

I personally like ramen with a q curly texture this one just straight ramen noodle to me so not a great noodle in my opinion soup base is pretty much the same white is good but other ones like drum stick ramen miso soup my wife ordered use this soup as base also but is is darker with miso flavor I guess. Overall I think their side orders r more appealing but their hours are not all day and don't expect good service from an old Japanese waitress there very rude so my wife is very unhappy with this dinner place choice. read more

It's OG. A ramen place before ramen was a trend. Just east of the 605, one has to wonder how the restaurant came to be so popular, considering it is situated in a deserted industrial/residential area of town. There are oodle of noodles prepared in a variety of ways. I had everyone's fav, shouyu ramen. Couldn't complain, it was solid. The service was about what you'd expect from a busy ramen shop. If you need anything, you'll have to flag them down. The decor matches the neighborhood, a little older, a little eclectic, a little run-down, and a little dingy. To add, it is a little pricey for "cheap" Japanese food, maybe a sign of the times. Out the door for a family of four, it'll set you back about $80. Great casual dining place... Japanese washoku, ramen and side dishes are on the menu. The waiting is pretty long during weekend evenings. Go there a little early as they close their waiting list about half hour earlier than the last order. I am surprised to see bad reviews based on that policy. Looks like everyone wants to be coddled and wants the restaurant to break their written policies just for them. Foo Foo Tei is a definite hole-in-the-wall restaurant that is Mom & Pop-owned. The food is authentically Japanese and prepared with love. I've dined here with some coworkers during my lunch break in the past, and I have to say that my dining experience has been average and decent. I usually order their Hamburg steak with rice and salad since it's easier for me to pack if I can't finish it all. The interior could be renovated and updated since it seems to be an old restaurant, but that is up to the owners. The wait time can be lengthy because the food is that delicious. However, the service can be improved. When my coworkers and I dined here last weekend, I noticed that there was a female server with a commanding attitude towards a table of customers. She seemed exasperated and impatient, as if she just wanted them to place their orders quickly. While our table was fortunate enough to be accompanied by a kind male server, I firmly believe that the customer experience has to be equally good for everyone all around. read more

I absolutely love the nanchatte tonkatsu (#17) and get it every time I come. I highly, highly, recommend it and it will not disappoint. The takoyaki is good too! Foo Foo Tei is a small, homey, and authentic restaurant. While the hours are a bit funky, they fill up very fast and are always busy. #3 for 2020 When my son he knew a place to go that we would like I was okay with that. But, as we drove and the streets got darker and the lights seem to disappear I was getting concerned. But tucked away in the business area is this wonderful large ramen place with an extensive menu. The parking lot isn't very big but seems to not get totally full. Stepping in is a big contrast to the outside ambiance. Bright and a good vibe. We were seated immediately. Our waitress had a livel hop and skip to her walk with a nice smile. It took awhile to figure out what we wanted but we nailed it to tan tan extra spicy, shin shin crab omelette and tonkatsu. The food is cheap and good for the price. I have been coming here since 2004. It has been my childhood favorite ramen spot in 626. My favorite is buta miso ramen. I grew up eating this. Also their rice dishes are amazing. The food is always good here but the other customers are always so rude. Pushy aunties always getting up in my personal space trying to cut me off in line. Good luck getting a 6ft social distance when they won't even give 6 inches of space. Thankfully the workers are always quick to put them in their place but the aunties are quite persistent when the worker's backs are turned. When ordering in person, to go orders take 30-45 minutes. Currently they are only open for lunch and dinner and closed in between the 2 meals. Sadly the phone system is super outdated and I'm never able to successfully place a phone order. It either gives a busy tone or asks for a remote access code. The parking lot here is also super tiny so your best bet is to come really early or find street parking. read more

Came in all hungry for a to go curry pork rice, and got a little surprised when charged $22 and prompted to tip á minimum of 18% for the meal. I'm totally aware of the current inflation crisis, but this "nothing to write home about" meal will definitely prevent me ever coming to this establishment again. Coco Ichibanya is so much better and at ~~$15 or less on most plate similar to this. They mainly serve Ramen, but I can tell you that their pork broth ain't legit...more like composed with mixed flavored powder; otherwise, a bowl price would be astronomical....Just my 2¢, y'all can take it with a grain of salt. Try your best to call in your order ahead of time. If they don't answer during the open hours, it just means they are busy so you'll have to go there to order. I'd highly recommend: Nanchatte Tonkotsu Ramen Broiled Squid Omelet Rice (aka omurice) Plus Pork Cutlet - you can get this with or without curry sauce. The curry is good but sometimes I didn't feel like eating it. This comes w a side salad. I appreciate the no-nonsense efficiency of ordering, paying, and then waiting outside. They will carefully package your order and bring it out to you. If the order is large, they will place it in a recycled cardboard box and secure it with scotch tape. read more

I think I was a much bigger fan of this place when I was younger. Don't get me wrong, I love the quaint, cozy atmosphere and the ramen is pretty good, but as I've aged (and tried more ramen), this place is just okay to me. I don't think there was ever a time in my life that I have gone here and there was no wait. Regardless of the day and the time, Foo Foo Tei is an obvious community favorite. Be ready to wait over an hour if you have a large party and would like to sit together. My favorite is generally the Nanchatte white ramen. The soup is creamy and rich and comes with a lot of noodles and an okay amount of chashu. I feel like with the ramen here, most of the soups are so, so rich in their flavor that it gets really filling...and to a point, tiresome, to eat after awhile. Unless I was absolutely starving, I find it really hard for me to finish a single bowl. I've just recently tried their curry omurice here. There's a slight spice to it and there's ground beef in the curry. Pretty solid dish overall. We also got the mochi cheese, which is really just rice cakes with mushroom, sliced beef, onions, and a beef stew like sauce. Despite the dish being super hot, the cheese on top was already solidified and not gooey anymore. It was an enjoyable dish mostly. The croquettes were decent too. For the wait time, I don't think Foo Foo Tei really impresses me and is just an alright place to go to. The location of this restaurant is a bit odd but don't let it deter you from trying it. It's nestled between a residential and industrial area near the 60 freeway. The restaurant has its own parking lot and free street parking. What stands out about this restaurant is their variety of ramen broth. My favorite is the Curry Ramen. The broth is thick and full of curry flavor, perfect for a cold winter night. The ramen comes with a lot of broth so I've seen people ask for to go containers just to take the broth home. You can also order extra noodles to share an order. The ramen noodles are the thin yellow type and I believe they offer udon noodles as well. The restaurant offers cold noodle ramen during summer months and that's what my boyfriend usually gets. Curry Omelet Rice is a good non-ramen entree option. Their Beef Bowl can be skipped because the beef is not as marinated as other places and also a bit dry. Appetizers I usually order are the Takoyaki and Fried Squid Legs. Service is usually pretty good. There's almost always a wait so either come early or before they close. Last call is 15 minutes before closing. read more

foo foo tei is the definition of a hole in the wall. it was my first time here, and it most definitely will not be my last. it is a small, quaint restaurant with a small parking lot and some street parking. i came on a sunday night at around 6 pm, and there was about an hour wait. i ordered the mabo tofu ramen, crab omelette with rice and gravy and the nanchatte ramen. i can't choose my favorite because they were ALL so good. the mabo tofu ramen was so unique, and the flavor was so so good. the broth was slightly thickened compared to other ramen broths. the nanchatte ramen, which seemed to be one of the more popular menu items, was a good balance of creaminess and richness. also, the egg in both of the ramens were probably the best egg i've had in ramen before - legit perfectly cooked. the crab omelette with gravy ($13) also had such great flavor. i really liked the flavor consistency of the gravy. the portion sizes are quite big, so it's definitely possible to share! the total for the 3 items came out to about $40, which is such a good price for the quality and quantity you are getting. on top of that, the ladies there are so kind and helpful! do check if they are open before coming because i believe that they are closed monday and tuesdays! read more

Great Japanese ramen place. Every time I come here, they always have very decent ramen with decent portions and toppings. I think they are one of the few ramen places that actually provides enough toppings in a bowl of ramen without you needing to add additional toppings. They have more varieties of ramen flavors than other ramen places, but I think their flavors are on the less heavy end. They also have a lot of different side dishes and appetizers that you can choose from. Recently, we tried the seabass and it was really flavorful with miso marinade and the skin was perfectly torched. Atleast that's how I like my curry. And the egg is really fluffy. - curry ramen, soup is really rich and chachu literally melts in your mouth. - takoyaki - must try green tea capico! PS: Ramen here is difference from other places. It's not the generic ramen where you will find at slurpin ramen or at daikokufuya. In my opinion, this place got the BEST ramen. Tips, everyone in your party must present in order to be seated. Don't be mad at them, it's pretty understandable because of the capacity of the place. It is situated near warehouses so it was a bit hard to find, a small parking lot. I came here on a weekday so there's wasn't a wait. The seating was filled and their menu is extensive. I chose to get the nan chatte ramen ($8.80) since it's pretty popular and lot of people on the other tables were getting it. I also got the mini oyakodon ($5.50) and takoyaki ($6). The nan chatte was rich and creamy, loads of chopped green onions, chopped fried garlic, and a piece of fishcake. It was a bit too heavy for me but I always wanted to try it.The takoyaki and oyakodon were good too, the takoyaki was crispy on the outside and soft inside with a good amount of chopped octopus. The oyakodon was slightly sweet for me, the broth, I guess. The staff was nice and they were attentive.They take card ($10 min for card use), the restroom was clean. read more

This location is about a 30 min drive from where I live, but I've been coming here regularly for my ramen fix for at least 10 years. This little shop is hidden away in an industrial zone. The parking lot is small but there's a good amount of street parking. Wait time can vary, usually when it's super busy it can be up to a 30-45 minute wait. The kitchen also closes at 2:15pm to prepare for dinner & reopens at 5:30pm, so be wary what time you plan to come. The interior is also pretty small & can be hot & stuffy at times. But despite this, there's a reason this shop has such raving reviews. Easily one of the best tasting & authentic ramen shops in the area. Portions are also consistently large, but if you want more, you can always order extra noodles on the side or an even just a larger bowl (be careful with that though, I doubt even 2 people can finish it). Unlike most ramen shops, there's actually a pretty large selection of different ramen variations. You got your main shout & miso broths, but the most unique is the #17 nachatte tonkatsu. It comes with a really unique creamy white broth isn't replicated by any other ramen shop I've ever been to. There's also a ton of sides as well. A good option I always pick is the grilled salmon. It's about $8 & is actually a pretty decent size. Servers are always friendly & responsive. The small size of the restaurant makes it easy to flag one down from pretty much anywhere you're sitting. Tl;dr - This place has been one of the best ramen places in the area for a really long time. There's a reason why people keep coming back here despite its small interior & location in a shady area.
