This place is located in a weird part of town. One side is industrial buildings and the other is homes. Forget that though...the food is mui bueno. Ramen comes out steaming and the workers seem to be really Japanese. Yup not Korean. They say more than "Masa Isai"! The portions are huge. I don't know why I always forget that. I must be used to ordering Pho Xe Lua but dis places' XL is like 2 bowls of Xe Lua! Be prepared to wait a while though. read more

One of the first ramen shops I ever visited. My friends told me it was great so I had to see for myself. I've been going here for about 2 years now and it's amazing every time. The broth is possibly the best I've ever tasted and the whole atmosphere is great. Really friendly & quick service, you won't wait longer than 10 minutes for your food unless it's a huge order. They also have an insanely wide selection of different items, and all the dishes me and my friends have tried have all been great. There are other good ramen shops in the area, but this one will always be my favorite. read more

#17, and #21... oh YEAH give me more.. My children love love love this place, they always order #17, the super delicious cream soup, they love to drink it with a straw. Yes I know, I should not let them do that. But they love it, and this is the only time you can do that....once they passed 12 or 13, it's a bit weird. Anyways, the ramen is just right, not too soft, not too hard, great portion. What I also love is the the double the size one is good enough for one adult and young child. So what I do is I share one of that (not the extra ramen, but the double portion ..whatever they called it) and then order another one for my son. Price is good too, the only downside is that you have to get their early, or your little kiddies will be starving. I usually go there around 5:30 to beat the traffic. read more

Loved the #16 Shio Ramen!!!! Service was fast, attentive and friendly. My ramen was better than regular shio, because it had egg, calamari, pork, shrimp, scallops, 3 types of mushrooms, lotus root, and fresh ginger, plus other miscellaneous veggies. Wait time was about an hour over the weekend for a party of six. Not impressed already being a first timer. On a good note, this place allows Take-Out. I will try that next time. Sis and I ordered 2 x #17 the coconut creamy soup base ramen. Pretty good IMHO for it wasn't too creamy nor too salty nor too sweet - just a well balanced soup base tonight. I also ordered a large portion of #3 the miso ramen for my three girls to share. Our waitress sent us three kid bowl sets to prep without me requesting for them; good call for tip sake. Bro ordered #14 the kelp garlic beef ramen. I got a side order of gyozas with their value set (rice bowl + miso soup + salad with ginger dressing). And I added a mini tuna bowl for latter. I had to try the raving melon soda (pretty good), while Sis tried the green tea calpico (too much hype - not all that) which took halfway through the meal to arrive, while Bro decided to play it safe with a fountain drink for the free extra (1) refill. I love their miso soup and salad combo. There were actual clam meat in the soup as a natural sweetener. The salad had a slice of seasonal fruit in the mixed greens which was refreshing. My creamy ramen was very tasty, chasu and egg yolk was cooked to perfection, but I wasn't full after inhaling a regular bowl. Good thing I ordered extra food that got me stuffed. The gyozas were not crispy enough been pan fried - made too fast with little quality control - although the stuffing was pretty tasty. The mini tuna bowl had freshly made wasabi with thick pieces of tuna sashimi which i liked but the rice was too mushy tasting congee-like. The ramen noodles were cooked too soft, my family prefers them 'al dente' or hard, so maybe next time we'll customize our preferences. My Sis didn't enjoy her ramen as much as I did since she prefers hers more salty. Bro liked his ramen but it wasn't great. Overall, I suppose we all miss Shin-Sen-Gumi more for their variety, however SSG no longer allows Take-Outs. Shame. Had to deduct a * for the service - inattentive at times, and deduct a * for the overall food experience. read more

I love a good ramen and I think that this place was pretty mediocre. Granted: I am so down to pay more for better quality, so that is the framework that I am writing this review from. Their servings are pretty large and they are pretty hefty! Prices were cheap--I only paid about $10 for a large ramen bowl. The off menu vegan ramen bowl is filled with soo many veggies and is soo delicious. I did have to order some chili for $1 but thats just because i cannot thouroughly enjoy any meal with out tears streaming down my face and a runny nose. Pretty nice ramen place. I've been here many times. They have many different ramen options, and after tried some of those, #17 Nanchatte Tonkotsu is still my favorite. The side orders are taste good as well. I feel that the taste used to be better and I am not sure if it is because more customers need to be served than used to be. It is very impressive that the Chef of Foo Foo tei is actually taking the time to improve his ramen, and his menu. ..Hes added a few New ramen and appetitizer to the menu every few month. I usually order Shoyu Ramen and it is consistenly delicious everytime, their chasu is soft and tender and they give u a generious portion of veggies ( bamboo/bean sprouts.egg/fish cake.) Now Ive tried all the popular ramen shop around the area ( Santouka/ASA/ Shin Sen Gumi Hakata/ Daikakoya ) so i can tell u this - Foo Foo tei serves a different style of Ramen, instead of pork bone soup, their soup base is chicken bone, so the soup is lighter. Overall above average and i pity the foo who gave foo foo tei a bad review Cough * asilia. U can tell the chef really works hard to improve his recipe and menu, foo foo tei offers a wide variety of food from Ramen to Curry to Eel Bowl to Fried Rice to Teriyaki - all above average from my experience. To say foo foo tei is Panda Express is a huge insult to the chef and also the people who frequent foo foo tei, so please get ur facts right and provide more info if u want to give it a bad review.. .. lol " tragic Americanized Japanese-wannbe place. Went there twice this week, both take out. This place seems to be always busy. Very nice staff. Had the regular miso ramen the first time and tomato beef ramen the second. Particularly like the latter. Since it was take out, and I didn't eat until hours later, my reviews are not that reliable. But I conclude the ramen must be pretty good when fresh. Kind of a small hole in the wall kind of place, but it was very good. They have a lot of variety to choose from as well as many sides. I had the creamy ramen, which was really good and filling probably because of how creamy it was. I tried my friends' broths and all were good. Service was so-so. The people were nice but food came out randomly, so by the time I was half way done, my friends were just getting their food. They also switched two of my friends orders, which we could have probably figured out except that it came out at separate times. I had the gyoza which was very good as well. Really amazing ramen place tucked away in a more industrialized part of town. My friends said the small side plates had gotten a little more fried than they remembered, but this place was still legendary. The piping hot bowl of ramen that arrived in front of me was larger than my head, and I was able to make 3 meals out of it. another diamond in the rough! i say that because this is another hole in the wall that serves superb food. it is a rainy saturday, i'm starving and craving some comfort food. yay for ramen! me and the fam came in at around 4pm and the wait was not so bad (15 minutes, if that) despite many yelpers' complaints. maybe we just lucked out. our first time here was about 2 months ago and the wait was about 20 minutes long. me and hubs love the broiled squid. the veggie ramen is overflowing with veggies and i had to take some home with me. today i had the chicken wings with miso ramen. it was my first time having miso with ramen and i was not disappointed. hubs ordered the curry plate with pork cutlet and omelet over rice. this monster dish came with miso soup and a salad on the side. it looked a little too much for me, but i was happy with the bite of pork cutlet i swirled over the curry sauce. even with me sharing with my ramen with my 3-year-old, we still had to take some of the ramen home with us. that's how big the servings are. i will be coming back one rainy afternoon! read more

So I must say I'm a little confused. Shiitake Ramen- I was cravint this beauty all day, and after getting my car fixed I immediately called to set my order. I happily arrived, paid and drove back home in what some would describe as an ecstatic frenzy. I literally tear open the plastic bag and dump the long separated contents of ramen and soup together. And as I get ready to take the first huge gulp of soup(of many)I notice something. Button mushrooms. I've actually had this ramen quite a few times, and I must say I NEVER noticed them. I thought that Shiitake ramen was exclusively both dried and fresh shiitake so you could understand the near invasion of privacy I felt when I saw the buttons. Anyway, irregardless tonight's ramen was not what I had envisioned. The soup was overly meaty (no doubt from the button shrooms), and it seemed there was not enough flavor to the base whatsoever. It was overall a rather bland ramen bowl. Now I absolutely adore Foo foo tei and I wish not to scar its well known name, but the mix of confusion from the mushrooms and the somewhat bland soup I couldn't have rated it higher than average. It did satisfy that ramen craving however! Can anyone confirm that there have indeed ALWAYS been buttons in the Shiitake Ramen? Maybe I'm just retarded. read more

Came here after initially not bothering to check business hours for Akasaka down the street and arriving to a closed restaurant on Sunday. Good thing Foo Foo Tei is a stone's throw away. I was worried there would be crazy lines (I went around 6:30pm on a Sunday) but the waiting list was miraculously short when I arrived. There was only 1 party listed above us, but in true Foo Foo Tei fashion, we still waited a good 20 minutes, even with empty tables around. I guess I can't knock them too hard on that, though - the ladies taking orders were constantly moving around and working hard. It was my boyfriend's first time here, and so he ordered the Nanchatte and I had Torikara in miso. The noodles were cooked really well in both of ours, and held up nicely even towards the end of the meal after sitting in the hot broth. He loved the Nanchatte broth, it was just alright to me, but I'm not really a creamy soup fan while he is. I've never seen him scarf down a meal so cleanly for as long as I've known him, not a noodle or scallion left behind. Guess he really liked it. My Torikara ramen was good, but the chicken "lollipops" were over seasoned with random huge clumps of coarsely ground black pepper. I had to pick out the pockets of pepper, but otherwise it was fine. I remember the first time I tried Foo Foo Tei, I would've probably given it 3 stars, barely. I remember waiting close to 2 hours and that wait really put a bad taste in my mouth even before I had a chance to to eat anything. That first Foo Foo Tei experience was doomed from the get-go. But this time, I didn't have a super long wait and what a difference it makes. read more

Great ramen for the price. They're family owned and staffed, so be ready for 1 hour+ waits due to overwhelming demand. Update in 2015: K seriously, everyone is probably tired of this place. Not even the side dishes are that appetizing anymore. The oils the cooks use to fry the Torigara chicken wings (and all of you probably get it at some point) permeates every inch of the walls in this facility.
