Turns out, they have an app now. Idk why I have to be in a secret club to get the best prices on groceries from a place called Food4Less, but I found this out at checkout after shopping the aisles and wondering why the food doesn't cost less here anymore. Dave's Killer Bread is the same price it is everywhere else, a cabbage head cost me $2.71, and a package of grapes $6.99. I should have searched the app before. If McDonald's has the nerve to do it, should be far fetched for this place lol. Anywho, this visit the store was clean and not super duper packed! They actually had several checkouts open with NO line. The parking lot however was kinda busy which is weird because lots of people were chillin in their cars but yet, the increased number of eyeballs watching was comforting because that's more people looking out if things get weird. idk I get paranoid in public at times lol but especially at places like food4less. I'm so torn about this place. It gives me Kroger products without the inflated Ralph's price. It comes at a cost. The parking lot is always full of carts. I'm not criticizing the store for this. It is the people. They don't return their carts to the corral. This makes parking really, really difficult. You know what else does it? The people that seem to walk around lost in a daze or others trying to sell things from their car trunk. Be ready for a three ring circus in the parking lot! Inside the store, there is the usual Food4Less aisles. Not poorly stocked but, as with many Long Beach stores, there are staples that are missing. These are things you can't live without and must go to another grocery store to get it before you run out. Typical of most stores in the area. You are ready to check out. Be mindful of your timing. Coming here directly after work is going to have you standing in long lines. Only about half of the registers are open. Do I blame management? Or is it they cannot find a lot of qualified people? Can it be they have limited employees to spread over a full day? Hard to tell these days. So many factors that I'm just going to stick with the facts. Long lines coincide with rush hour. Then, there is that trek back to your car through trash that litters the parking lot and abandoned carts in random place. Can't people put the carts in the corral anymore?!? There are definitely deals to be found here, especially in the meats department, but there's a lot of stuff here that isn't really that much "less" than what you'd find at Vons either (I'm looking at you, spices). Nonetheless, I picked up some chicken thighs here at 99 cents a pound (hopefully they have some life left and won't be bad by tomorrow, haha). Some veggies were a good deal too with mushrooms at around $2, you can find 5 dozen medium eggs for $9.99 or 20 eggs for $3.99 (large ones). The thing that really earned this grocery store an extra star was finding Frank's hot sauce in the condiments aisle. Love that Buffalo-comfort sauce that I practically put on everything. Self-bagging at checkout. Lines at registers can be long, so plan ahead! All in all, definitely some steals here, but not everything is a bargain. read more

I had a very good experience at this location today. I had issues navigating my account on my Food 4 Less App from my phone. I could not scan the barcodes on the items I was purchasing. I asked one employee on the floor, and he attempted but also couldn't get the items to scan from my mobile device. After shopping, I got in the checkout line. The store was somewhat busy with customers preparing for Thanksgiving. I didn't want to ask the cashier and hold up her line, but I did she took a few moments out to assist me. She asked to see my phone and advised me that there was a new updated app. and that's why the barcode wasn't scanning. She was also able to go to my account and add the coupons that I couldn't scan. Came in to buy 3 watermelons that's on sale. Went through the check out without having to wait long for an evening crowd. I bought 3 watermelons but now looking at my receipt I was double charged for the last one. $1.95 might not be a lot but in this high inflation times every dollar counts which was my reason to shop here. For me to drive back just to get $1.95 back is equivalent to the gas spent driving there and back. My cashier's name on the receipt shows Lilly G. To be fair I noticed once the lady was done ringing me up, the cashier came back from her break, which leads me to believe the person who made this mistake was some sort of Lead/Supervisor covering a break. Hopefully the person who made this mistake with me was correctly logged in. And the correct person is held responsible for this. I'll have to reconsider shopping here again as this place has always been my go to grocery in LB for over 20 years. We all want to save money but I don't see the point if I'm getting double charged. Plenty of parking as the lots nice and big but customers park like sh*t so you have to park a good distance away to avoid getting door dings on your car. Store's nice and clean and a large variety of items, but also very rude customers (no courtesy, see you coming with your cart and do not move out of the way). I came here looking to grab some water and I was a little bit on the shocked side of how clean and super huge this Food 4 Less looked. It was so very much more more modern than many of the other Food 4 Less. It didn't feel like I was in early 70's at all. Everything was so organized in neat super neat order and all the prices were marked very large and easy to read. If i lived closer I would love to have this as my market. I also liked how they put many of the larger products when you walk in so you can put it in the cart first! Who would of known to do it !! Well I guess Food 4 Less is on the way to becoming a genius super market!! One day I will be back shopping and going slow into the isles of perfection. Also the workers were very polite and fast. Most horrible cashier in my adult life....Erica Jacques needs to stick with her other job, hope it's not in customer service too. Been coming to this location for over 15 years, never ever going back! Never had a problem here ever, it's always full of people but we like the variety of groceries here. My family filled up our shopping cart, we usually do this once a month. We loaded up the belt when it was our turn to check out hubby came around to start banging groceries with my 2 older sons. Erica tells my husband he is stealing grocery bags when he asked her if he can take some to start bagging our groceries. We live an honest life and he was offended by this, over 10 cent bags? Goes back & forth with hubby then she started getting rude and I told her she handled that wrong, no customer service at all. Told Erica "finish ringing me up so I can leave, she was ruining the positive energy my family was having that morning. She kept talking back then said "this ain't my only job, BITCH" while my 4 year old was standing next to me. What was that comment for? I called her out and asked "did you call me a bitch" and she straight lied & said "no I said girl"....I know what I heard. Hubby told her "why you calling people names, catch her outside then" she looked at him and said "are you threatening me" then she walked away and called a manager over. Manager finished the transaction and we got out of there! There are a few staff members here that make coming here bearable, but the other staff; mainly the cashiers are becoming really bad. They offer no friendly small talk, so not greet you. And will literally continue their conversation over you to the other cashier at the register. It's just really rude. Only three stars for the few original cashiers and employees that know me as a regular and treat me like I actually exist. I honestly want to give less stars. Especially for the inconvenience of their mobile carts. I recently broke my ankle and rely on their mobile carts to get around. I get dropped off right at the front of the store while I struggle to get in to find a working mobile cart. Today I went in and 3 of the 4 carts were completely dead and weren't even plugged in. This has happened 3 times this week. My hubby ends up coming in after parking the car and plugging all of them in to help the next person who might need it. I can literally see the workers just stare from their registers as they watch us or my hubby do their job. Another inconvenience is that their mobile carts do not allow you to leave the store. It automatically stops once you pass their doors. My hubby will go and pull up the car as I sit there in the cart with our groceries as employees and cashiers will just stare and not ask to help or anything. I normally like to go here for booze and groceries. The employees who work in produce and meat section are nice. There's one guy who always say hi to everyone and ask them how they're doing. The price is better than most place and their produce is fresh. You have to be careful with the ready to go food as sometimes people eat from it and leave it there. They're fully stocked on meat for the most part. Some cashiers could definitely be friendlier and some are very unprofessional. Also Signal Hill still allows plastic bags in grocery stores, so if you forget your reuseable bags and need to go grocery shopping you don't need to worry about buying them here. Around 2:30PM, an employee unlocked the gate inside to let my 70 year old, handicapped grandmother use the restroom, instead of having to walk all the way around the store to use it - this employee was very kind and let me grandma through. However, another employee was EXTREMELY rude and when my grandma was trying to exit out the same way she was let in (her groceries were right outside this gate), THE EMPLOYEE WAS ALREADY WALKING OUT TOO - but when my grandma asked if she could get by, the employee told her "Don't be rude" and pushed the door closed on her. Y'all are lucky I'm hearing about this story after the fact and wasn't actually there. SHAME ON YOU FOOD 4 LESS. Hey, what's with all the negative ninnies complaining about Food for Less??!! Honestly, this is one of favorite grocery store chains. I always find good deals and specials here. The parking lot is full of spaces, being that it is in a shopping center that has a Starbucks and Charley's Grilled Sub's. Everytime I come here, I have always had no problems finding what it is I need. Surprisingly, I have never had to wait in a long line. They have just about everything here for your grocery needs. If I am not mistaken, they still have the redbox machine in the front, as well as a lottery ticket machine. Yes I give high praises for Food for Less. When Food 4 Less opened 5 plus years ago, I cheered because we finally had a grocery store here in Signal Hill, YAY! The location is great because it's just a mile up the street from me, so easy access too. Food 4 Less... or at least this Food 4 Less was the usual budget type grocery store when it opened, plain and kinda boring. Boxes of good cut open on one side and the whole thing put in the shelf. However since opening the store has matured a bit. 1 1/2 - 2 years ago they went through an interior cosmetic upgrade / remodel, giving the store a fresher, more inviting feel with some brighter wall colors. It feels a more like a "regular" grocery store than a "budget" store now. While you won't find the many "gourmet items" here, they do have a good variety of other items to choose from. Prices are better/lower than the big brother Ralphs too, but there is less customer service here as well. On the down side, the lines at checkout are pretty constant most of the time because they rarely have enough check stands open. On busy shopping days (holidays, etc) they do have more check stands open, but the lines are as bad if not worse. Overall: Convenience and prices = very good. Variety of products = pretty good. I don't come here for fresh squeezed juice ( Mother's down the street), I don't come here for organic (also Mother's or Whole Foods), I also don't come here for hard to find specialty ingredients. I do come here because it's close to my home and they always have everything that I need with good prices. Whenever I've asked for help the employees are always helpful and provide good customer service. I knocked off a star because I would like to see some hand baskets at this location.
