New Jersey, often overshadowed by its more famous neighbor New York, is a treasure trove for food enthusiasts. Most Jerseyans know the big names when it comes to Jersey dining destinations: Montclair, Red Bank, Jersey City, Morristown, Cape May, Ridgewood, Asbury Park, Hoboken, and the list goes on. But what about places that deserve to be on the culinary map, say South Hackensack? Located on Huyler Street, this family-owned establishment likes to put a twist on diner classics to create innovative new flavors. Foodies Diner opened in 2021 and is where we came for lunch after our last visit a year ago. My partner and I were greeted by the owner, Teddy, upon entering this cozy, modern vibe and got a booth right away by the register. Their menu feeds that diner fix with huge selections for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. We decided on the Cod Filet and Grilled Chicken Navajo accompanied with fries. We were treated with the sample of the Chef-Prepared Rice Pudding. The food was amazingly tasty, made with fresh ingredients and good portions. The fries were crispy and not greasy. The price was reasonable for the area. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and full of energy, especially our server, London. I had a great conversation exchanging notes with Teddy. We had another wonderful dining experience, which we continue to recommend.

Decided to come here for a very late brunch on a Sunday. We were the only customers here as it was relatively close to closing time. We were able to sit anywhere and our food came out quickly. The place felt cozy and the menu was quite extensive. I had the Virginia ham with eggs, home fries, and toast. It was okay and wished the ham was thicker. Home fries weren't particularly tasty. The bacon was nice and crispy and not too oily. The monte cristo was okay. I imagine there would've been a bit more enthusiasm for us if we had come in earlier and I don't blame the workers for just wanting to go home haha. If you're close to the area and want solid diner food for a decent price, this is your place. I just wouldn't go out of my way to come here though. I'd say my overall rating for this place would be a solid 3.5.

Solid diner food and amazing service! We really loved the Foodies Club sandwich, the breaded chicken was so juicy and the breading was really thin. The sandwich overall was really balanced. Also loved the home fries, their smashed potatoes which I thought were unique and special compared to regular cut home fries. The owners are a sweet couple and you can tell they really care about their customers and the business. Would love to come back soon and try their sweet brunch dishes as well!

Foodies is an amazing place for great food and awesome service. Teddy and Nadine took excellent care of us while visiting their establishment. We ordered my the Chocolate Chip Pancakes, the Foodies Club Sandwich, and the French Toast Deluxe. All three dishes were so delicious. They were all very flavorful. I also orders the Rice Pudding. Another excellent item. The service was great. Nadine was very helpful with her recommendations. Everyone at Foodies were very friendly. The restaurant itself is very warm and inviting. When you walk in, everyone there is so welcoming. This is a must place to visit when in New Jersey. All food options are awesome. And the service is excellent. I will definitely be coming back. Thanks for everything.

What a great breakfast find! Lovely restaurant with a very cute atmosphere inside. I enjoyed seeing the plate mats having good ol' promotion of businesses. The lady who served us was just a sweetheart. The food was amazingly flavorful. I got the cowboy Benny which is a Benny with ribeye steak, and that steak was properly cooked and juicy. I upgraded my breakfast taters to disco fries as I wanted to try them without buying the whole order and it was totally worth it. Those disco fries were so cheesy and the gravy was so tasty. My husband very much enjoyed his waffle. That waffle was surprisingly huge. They have a very decent breakfast special that includes a coffee, iced coffee or tea if that's your jam. Parking in the back of the restaurant. They accept card. Looking forward to coming again.

Came by on a Saturday for brunch at around 11. The restaurant isn't that big but it wasn't too packed at that time. To start you off, they give you some complimentary french toast bites. I normally am not a huge fan of french toast, but these were really good. We ordered some disco fries to share because after six years of living in Jersey, I don't think I've ever had disco fries (GASP)! They were good but you have to eat them quickly because they cool off fast, which makes the cheese kind of chunky. For the entree, I had a Philly cheesesteak panini and upgraded to onion rings. The meat was kind of dry, and the bread seemed more like pita bread than panini. The onion rings were great though. Hubby had one of the specials, which was the fruity pebbles pancakes, which we both liked. Overall, it was still a good experience. Not every dish at a diner can be a winner. Tip - there is a parking lot around the back but it's small and some of the spots are a bit awkward to park in

My sister brought me here due to the unique items offered on the menu. Friendly staff and food was not bad. We ordered the tutti fruit waffles, pizza fries and subbed for waffle fries, and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch. They even offered a free sample of their French toast! The pizza fries were good but could use more sauce! Definitely recommend ordering this with the waffle fries instead of their standard fries. Tutti frutti waffles- generous with the fresh fruit but the waffle itself was standard. Would've liked it more if it was chewy and sweet. Not bad! Cinnamon French toast - I didn't personally try it but was told it was good! The sausage was really good and juicy! Cooked to perfection! Parking: small lot in the back but is a bit crowded due to the narrow space.

I like going to different diners, the food is always good and there is a kind of local flavor for most diners in different towns. At Foodies, the food was great, my mom liked it too. I love the Booth style sitting, it had parking in the back. Everything looks so clean and organized, the service was great as well, the waitress was very attentive. The bonus for this Foodies is that if you have children or friends who loves planes, this is an excellent location to eat and watch small places landing nearby at Teterboro Airport maybe? The planes come down really, really low, so is kinda cool if someone is a plane fanatic to watch the constant landings.

Found this place on Yelp while in town. From the exterior you can't tell how cute and large it is on the inside. Ambience - cute Food - OK I opted for the Italian omelette with cheese, onions and sausage which wasn't bad at all! I enjoyed it. My son and hubby had pancakes which they describe as just OK. Overall not bad at all! I would return.

Best place for Breakfast, brunch or lunch. Definitely should be a new local favorite! I went here with my boyfriend and the service was excellent, both Nicole and Angela were amazing. They took great care of us and the owner was such a sweetheart! They threw in two small free rice puddings. And omg it was amazing and made in house! Please take your family and friends here!! Definitely a nice surprise. We were greeted by a very pleasant waitress who couldn't be nicer. Spoke with the owner Teddy, a very nice gentleman. The food was delicious. I had the philly omelette and it was delicious also split a short stack of pancakes just to try and they were perfect. You will not leave here hungry. The portions a very big. Friendly, clean, delicious! If you're looking for classic diner vibes, this is the spot. A spiral notebook-sized menu, a deck of trivia cards on every table, coffee refills, the friendliest staff, and plates that will leave you feeling FULL! Soggy fries and a BLT that was not toasted. Friend ordered a turkey burger deluxe and it came with nothing on it and a flat bun. Very upsetting. Tried calling to tell them about the situation and were not helpful at all. read more

Recently visited Foodies with a friend & it was a 5/5 experience! From the service to the food, the quality was top notch. We tried some of their fall specials pictured here and everything was delicious: caramel apple cider, cannoli French toast, fruity pebbles banana bread & pumpkin soufflé (my favorite!). I took my wife and son to Foodies for the first time after looking at Yelp reviews. We walked in and greeted warmly upon entry. The menu has a large selection of breakfast and afternoon meals. Generally speaking, diner prices are very high these days but Foodies menu is very reasonably priced. My son had nachos grande and fries. Wife had a cobb salad. I had eggs and bacon w home fries. Food was really good. Waitress was really nice and accommodating. When I paid at the register, Teddy was very pleasant and asked how everything was. He is a good dude. You just don't experience this type of service and pleasantry anymore; except at Foodies. Go Giants! read more

One thing I'm going to try is a French onion soup! It always the place to start & this French Onion was just PERFECT! From yummy broth to amazing size onions! Make sure you get it it felt very welcoming from start to finish & I got a wonderful booth, which was very cozy as well. It's a small little diner which makes me feel more at home! This diner is great! My husband and I went there for breakfast today and everything was delicious! We had pancakes, an omlette and grilled cheese and everything was perfect. The owner and staff are very nice and welcoming and also very attentive. We felt very comfortable and satisfied by the time we left. We will definitely be back to try additional items from the menu. Aside from the food being absolutely incredible (we had homemade banana bread, homemade rice pudding, a burger, and an omelette) we were treated with such kindness and hospitality. Doesn't look like much as you drive by, but go inside. The service, for this day & age, is remarkable, outstanding! You are greeted and thanked for coming in. Teddy, who I assume is either the owner or manager, maybe both, comes over to your table to introduce himself. A very affable fellow. Nadine our server was terrific as well. Very attentive and personable. When we are in the area, we now have a new go-to for breakfast. And the food was delicious I should add! read more

Stopped in this new addition to the restaurant community in S. Hackensack for a breakfast sandwich. All I can say is "wow" as it was the tastiest and freshest sandwich I can remember having. More importantly, the staff was so engaging and wonderful. Can't wait for lunch when I visit on Monday..... Best brunch in southern Hackensack ! Will definitely make it a tradition to stop every time I visit northern New Jersey. Valeria the young lady who helped me was incredible. Ask for Valeria when you come in she welcomes you with a smile and makes you feel home. Food was incredible the customer service was amazing! Easy parking the ambiance was great the music level was good to make me feel relaxed and enjoy my food. I'm really surprised by all the positive 5 star reviews. Extremely small but very cute. They have some trivia cards on the table to keep customers entertained which was fun. Overall the staff was very sweet and the only reason they got 2 stars. I could tell they work very hard and my heart goes out to them but the food was really not good. I had the eggs Benedict with spinach and feta. My partner had the waffle and bacon. Nothing tasted fresh for example sautéed spinach tasted like it came from a can or from a TV dinner. The food was also cold. I could tell that nothing was homemade or made from scratch. Things were either from a can or frozen. If you're looking for a diner with food that taste like it was made with love I wouldn't come here. But the ambiance is very "instagramable." read more

There was a lot of ice cream, very finely shaved ice, jelly bits, red beans, crushed oreos, and I'm not sure what else, but again, more ice cream than ice. At this price point, I don't think I'll try the Bingsu again, and I can't say I'm excited about the other menu items, but you never know, I may give it another shot and try other breakfast items. It's not fair to judge an eatery based on 1 item, but looking at the ambiance and service also, for now I'll throw out a rating of 3 1/2 stars. Add another 1/2 star if you love waffles.

This place has a parking lot next door but it seems that this lot belongs to an auto repair shop not the restaurant, it has tow-away signs but we parked in the lot because it was after hours. The restaurant is spacious, with plenty of tables, the music is low, the decor is low-key with some Winter motiffs. I told my wife that I was expecting more of an Island/Caribbean decoration. My wife ordered the Asopaó de Camarones (Shrimp Soupy Rice) & got Spaghetti with Dominican Salami, Tostones & Avocado. Hot tea to drink. I expected the Spaghetti to come with Dominican Salami as an option (this is how Dominican Spaghetti is prepared and served) but unfortunately it does not, the Spaghetti is plain & adding the Dominican Salami is extra. My wife's Asopaó was full of shrimps, very tasty she loved it as did i. My Spaghetti with Dominican Salami was pretty good. The Spaghetti were al dente enough (not too soft nor too hard), flavorful, Dominican Salami chunks were hearty (I was hoping that the Salami would be stewed but it was fried instead), the avocado was fresh & unblemished, & the tostones were perfectly golden fried & crispy. Ashley & Stacey were our servers and they were very friendly, full of smiles, on-point & honest. I said honest, because after paying the bill we asked for a pen to add a tip and she explained to us thar the tip (which is an automatic 15%) is already included. Which surprised us, usually tip is included with a party of 6 or more, we are only a couple. My wife and I always tip between 10% & 20% depending on the service of course. But no matter how bad, horrible was the service we tip at least the 10%. We detest restaurants that force us to tip. We believe we have the right to give a certain amount of our hard earned money ourselves, without forcing our hand. Because of this practice of including the automatic 15% tip, no matter the size of the dining party, I give a rating of 3 stars. If it wasn't for this forceful tipping, I would have given this place an easy 5 stars. So beware when dining in at La Cocina de Cristina, while the food is amazing, their tipping policy will force you to shell out 15% of your bill, whether the service was good or not. We will NOT dine in at this place ever again. If anything, I will order via Grubhub (which allows me to tip accordingly) or order take-out.

The chicharron, longaniza, and chicken were fried to perfection and the tostones were good too. I prefer my tostones a little crisper which is the only reason for the 4 stars and not 5 but that's just my preference. The place is beautifully decorated with dominican and it is very clean and well put together. Very nice vibe inside.

I recently had the opportunity to try Foodies Diner in South Hackensack, NJ, for breakfast, and unfortunately, it was a letdown. I had heard positive things about this place, so I was excited to give it a shot, especially since I rarely eat out for breakfast on a weekday. The ambiance was quiet and relaxed, which was nice, and the menu offered a decent variety of breakfast and lunch options. However, I found the prices to be a bit higher than expected for a diner, yet I was willing to overlook that. I ordered the Alpine omelette, which was priced at $16.25. I requested a simple change--no onions and a switch from Swiss to cheddar cheese. The waitress assured me it was "not a problem." Fast forward to when the food arrived: it was satisfactory, though nothing extraordinary. The real issue arose when I received the check. To my surprise, there was a surcharge for the cheddar cheese substitution. When I inquired, the waitress explained that it was an upcharge. I was taken aback, as I felt that such charges should be communicated beforehand. When I asked to speak with a manager about the lack of transparency, I was told that no one was available because the manager was out shopping. Additionally, I noticed a 3% charge for credit card payments, which wasn't posted anywhere. It felt like a series of frustrating little surprises that left a bad taste in my mouth. The overall experience was marred by the waitress's dismissive attitude and the lack of clarity regarding pricing. I won't be returning to Foodies Diner and will be sure to share this experience with my friends and followers. It's disappointing to see such poor customer service practices, especially when customers are left unaware of additional charges.
