    Belgian Hot Chocolate
    Em B.

On our hunt for the Met on our NYC vacation, we ran across the Wafels and Dinges cart. Cute! It was an unexpected surprise on a slightly chilly day as we journeyed to find the iconic museum. Hubby had "de Bom" while I had a waffle cone with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I also got a Belgian Hot Chocolate...best hot chocolate I've ever had! They serve it with a mini cookie to dip in your cocoa. I wish I could have sampled a few other items but I wanted to save my appetite for Joe's Shanghai for some soup dumplings after. But every sweet treat on the menu looked absolutely scrumptious! Great little unexpected treat to satisfy my sweet tooth on the walk through Central Park!

Wafels & Dinges is a food stand/truck that specializes in Belgian waffles. I happened upon them near Midtown. If you spot them, you'll be in for a sweet treat. My Overall Rating - 3 1/2 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - It's a yellow food truck normally located in a public area. Honestly we were simply walking when we found them but you can follow them on twitter. I happen to love food trucks, so I also love these setups where you can walk up, place an order, & get some tasty grub. There were a number of chairs & tables around so eating was easy. 1 Star. Service - There was only man in the truck, but we fast & quick. Not much else can be said - our transaction to food time was no more than 5 minutes. 1 Star. Food - Of course we went with the WMD consisting of whipped cream, chocolate syrup, bananas, & strawberries. It was super cold that day so unfortunately we didn't get to experience the hot, soft wafel mixed with our dinges. Instead, it was a bit hard - but the fruit (also cold) did soften it up. In the future, I think I would rather order a wafel plain so that the flavor of the batter would stand out. In our WMD, the other toppings over powered it. Hey, we were ordering what looked good in the photos! Still a tasty treat, but $10+ for a WMD & bottled water. 1 Star. Will I Return? - Only if I happen upon another food truck. I won't actively seek one out via twitter, but if I spot a Wafel & Dinges cart I will surely line up. Not the best wafel I've had, but certainly the best from a food stand/truck. You won't be disappointed if you are lucky enough to hit one up. 1/2 Star. My Yelp Rating Scale (Sum of all parts): 1 Star - Atmosphere - Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I'll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star - Service - You can have a great meal with bad service. But that's also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It's important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars - Food - I'll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it's really all about the food. 1 Star - Will I come back? - If I know for a fact I'll return, I'll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food (2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. I will sum them up to provide my final Yelp score.

    I randomly found the cart!!

Most awesomest wafflest waffles ever!! I had bookmarked this cart before going to NYC, but when I saw that it was a cart I thought it was gonna be a moving food truck that I would never find. But walking out of Central Park on the way to the Apple store, lo and behold there it was right there!! When I passed by the cart and read the name, I squealed of excitement while the bf wondered what was wrong with me. He got the waffle ice cream sandwich with gingerbread waffle, or was it gingerbread ice cream?? I got the WMD waffle with unlimited dinges! I just asked the worker to make me something, whatever was the best combo. They were super nice by the way! He put spekuloos spread, strawberries, whipped cream, chocolate and powdered sugar. Bomb-diggity-bomb! The spekuloos spread is made of gingerbread I think. The texture is kind of like a runny peanut butter or almond butter. I think it would have been even more delicious with some bananas. I posted pictures of both items. A must try if you are in NY!

Who doesn't love a good story about someone who quits a desk job to start a food truck business? Not just any food truck, a waffle truck. I mean... wafels. & the toppings are ... dinges. I don't know what makes a Belgian waffle Belgian, but I've heard that the liege wafel is the one to get. Tried the... Liege Wafel with Spekuloos Spread: The wafel was warm, soft, and chewy. I wasn't expecting to like it so much, but it was delicious. The first dinges is free. Each additional dinges is $1. Each wafel is about $6. It's a bit too pricey for me to snack on regularly, but great if I want to indulge myself.

I mean, who can say anything bad about a waffle that is topped with bacon and syrup? I did remove one star because my friend and I waited 15-20 minutes for our order, and the girls on the truck seemed to be in disarray. Not sure if something happened to their computer system or what, but the ordering and giving out of orders seemed to be haphazard. Everyone has an off day. The waffle was cooked to perfection, and the bacon was thick and crispy, topped with syrup and powdered sugar for added sugar high. It was definitely enough for two people to split as a snack, which was what my friend and I did. Price was $8.50; that hurts though. Overall, great to treat yourself, but I don't think I would really chance the truck down.

"de S'mores Wafels" with marshmallows, speculoos , and melted chocolate fudge and the "de bom" with classic vanilla ice cream, speculoos.

We had spoiled ourselves today with speculoos! Littlefoodie got the "de S'mores Wafels" with marshmallows, speculoos , and melted chocolate fudge. Bigfoodie got the "de bom" with classic vanilla ice cream, speculoos. We really had a sugary day It was amazing dessert to have as the fall leaves fall.

WMD with everything but nutella, maple syrup, and butter.
    Cat N.

I don't know how, but they forgot about my order, even though I was standing right there. The guys were really sorry about it though, and gave me a free scoop of ice cream. We made the mistake of ordering the WMD, with all of the "dinges" minus nutella, syrup, and butter. Even so, the waffle disintegrated into a soggy mess in the time it took us to dig through all of the toppings. What a yummy mess it was, though. I wish the waffle was bigger, especially for orders with more toppings, and to match the higher pricing. They have a daily trivia or trick to getting a free waffle, but make sure you check their twitter for the right one, else you'll end up doing the wrong thing, like the poor guy that salsa-ed in the middle of Columbus Circle, only to find out that was the wrong challenge.

Popular and nice dessert or snack while relaxing at Bryant park. There many made pre-selected combinations or you can choose your own toppings to put on. They staffs are nice. They have beverages like like coffee or lemonade as well but I personally suggest only getting the waffles and drinks somewhere else. A little pricey but you can't expect cheap in NY. The waffles are good. Goes well with the toppings. It's hard so little difficult to eat with plastic utensils.

There is no way you can pass by and not be drawn by the aroma of fresh wafels. It is a must try! Especially their rich Belgian hot cocoa!

One of my all time favorites: the Wafel with vanilla ice cream and Nutella (only if my wafel is freshly made). Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside is what keeps me coming back for this dessert.

Crack-On-Wheels I've never been so happy to see a vehicle in my life. This truck is one of the best hidden gems I've ever discovered. It literally is the best waffle in the World. Props to whoever thought of this....hopefully they make a S'MOREZ truck next!! I got the soft and chewy w/ peanut butter, nuts, chocolate drizzle, and powdered sugar, it was phenomenal to say the least, can't wait to go back and try the light and flaky. PS The staff is hilarious as well.

Best belgian waffle I've had hands down. The waffle is served hot and crispy but so satisfyingly dense.Try it simple with dulce de leche, it's my favorite! I know I'll be making a stop here next time I visit NYC!

    Liege waffle with speculoos spread.
    Xenu M.

After our trip to Belgium, I slowly became resigned to the fact that I would probably never taste a proper Liege waffle again until we returned to Brussels. *cue quiet weeping* Lucky me, I was wrong. I WOULD taste another Liege waffle before our next hop across the pond - and that waffle came from Wafels and Dinges. My husband and I stalked them on Twitter and we found them at the southern tip of Central Park. Waffle Heaven, yippie! The first time we found the truck we got plain Lieges with powdered sugar, which were divine. They were sticky on the outside (from the caramelized sugar) and dense and fluffy on the inside. If heaven was ever incarnated in a food form, this is it. The next time we found the truck (we are total freaks) we got the Liege waffle with Speculoos Spread. What is Speculoos Spread, you ask? It's crack in spreadable form. I say that about a lot of things (I love nut butters), but this was truly one of a kind. It's basically gingerbread cookies ground up into a spreadable paste. Really. It's as good as it sounds - it gets all melty when it gets warm, too...so it's perfect on these waffles. I'm trying to procure some of this stuff for my personal stash...it's incredibly good. If you are in NYC you need to seek out this truck, and prepare to have your mind blown. FYI: They also have REALLY good iced coffee. But come for the waffles.

I don't go as much as I use to, as the price has more than doubled since 2017/18. However, that has nothing to do with my rating. My problem is that meats have gone downhill. I used to love gyro meat - never sure what it was exactly lamb or beef - but now it is just gross and greasy. The chicken which used to be excellent is now very dry. The white sauce is great and the rice is fine, but that is it. Not worth getting anymore. Maybe one of their competitors is better, can't really be worse.
