On a recent trip downtown me and my boyfriend decided to stop by Foothills for dinner. We started with a pretzel that came with beer cheese and a honey cinnamon dip. The pretzel was great and the dips both complimented it nicely. The cheese dip had just enough beer flavor to taste it but not overpowering, which is my preference. I thought the honey cinnamon spread was different for a pretzel but very good! It was like Texas Roadhouse butter but better. I ordered the Winston hot chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. It seems they gave me the whole potato in fries, but they were pretty good. They were soft inside but had a crispy exterior. The sandwich was pretty good but just not my favorite. I think that I didn't love the sauce the chicken was dipped in and was thinking it would be more of a Nashville style hot chicken and it was like a tangy spice to me. This is personal preference though, the chicken was cooked nicely and I think you'd like it if you like the sauce. The waitress was very nice and frequently came by to check on us. I have never been so excited for a coffee stop, each coffee was delicious and very much to the seasonal theme. Maybe they were short staffed. Seems the kitchen was too. Our food took more time than reasonable to come out. I will say that my Winston Hot Chicken (Buffalo Chicken) Sandwich was great. The black bean corn salsa was also good--fresh and filling. My dining partner had a Shanewich, which was a messy stacked burger concoction and she enjoyed it all. The mac and cheese was only okay. The night we visited was trivia night, and we sat in the bar area. They have a wide selection of beers available along with some wine and others. The have a full food menu for food. For the atmosphere, I rate Foothills a 8/10. We enjoyed the time we were there and the trivia night. That was well-done. For the beer, I rate Foothills a 6/10. If you have a problem with an order, the staff/manager WILL fix it. We had a problem and it was handled better than we could've asked for with no hesitation from management. Beers were ok but the food was excellent. I ordered the chefs special sandwich and it was awesome. It's was a braised beef sandwich but the beef was done so well that it melted in your mouth. Now why I am giving FootHills 2-stars is because we were a party of twelve the waitress was not attentive to us. We had to remind her to pick up our dirty dishes from our appetizers right as the main courses were coming out. Next she did not refill any of our drinks ex. water and tea. She only refilled only one of our guests 3 times he was sole person who got outstanding service but remaining 11 the service was bad. Finally she didn't check up on us. We had to wave her down several times. But because of the bad service she lost out on a good tip. Just remember FootHills people of the minority race we do tip when service given to us is somewhat good but this time it wasn't sorry. For a restaurant/pub, you can't really ask for better. Everything on the menu is your standard pub fare, but it's all done well and you could tell thought was put behind each element. The drinks are tasty and there's enough variety to cater to a diversity of tastes. I highly doubt I'll be in Winston Salem again, but Foot Hills was definitely a highlight of our short stay. Came here on a Monday night around 9 pm and it took a very long time to gain attention to be seated. Something was definitely wrong with the person who seated us as well which is concerning for their health. Just wanted an app and drinks and neither was particularly good. While it may be tough to mess up fried pickles, they certainly did. Something was definitely off about the batter. Moving on to the pumpkin beer-it was tough to make it through this pint. VERY disappointed and turned off by the lack of customer service. We were in town for a soccer game and our team manager called ahead of time to try to make a reservation. She was told that Foothills doesn't take reservations, but to come early to be accommodated. When she arrived, she was then told by Shaun, the manager, that he couldn't accommodate her and that everyone would have to sit as a family. Mind you, there was a large room (that apparently was RESERVED for a wrestling team - ok) and there was NO ONE in the restaurant at 5PM. They refused to push ANY tables together even though there were larger tables that could've accommodated our party. They wouldn't even allow us to wait for those tables. When we were about to be seated, they were still giving us a hard time about allowing us to sit together. You can eat there if you'd like, but if you have a LARGE party that brings A LOT of money and tips REALLY well, go down the street to Mellow Mushroom. Great spot! Didn't get to have any beers this time around because I was waiting for the weekend. The loaded tater tots appetizer was totally awesome. Super cheesy and had bacon, scallions and was served with ranch. This is such a great bar snack to be honest! Ended up taking some of these home because they will definitely be thrown in the air fryer at some point tomorrow. I ordered the 1/2lb pub melt, cooked medium, which I expected to have maybe a wee bit of pink in the middle, but it seemed to cooked a bit more than to my liking. Still ate half of it. Honestly felt a bit dry. Toppings were a bit light as well, idk why I expected the burger to be a bit more topping heavy (who doesn't love a messy burger). My side was Mac and cheese and oh dear, it was so creamy and delicious! I really enjoyed it and was hesitant at first to getting it, but I am happy I did! My fiancé ordered the Winston hot chicken. Low to mid tier, come here if you're willing to pay 15+$ for something you could very easily get for much higher quality somewhere else entirely. I paid 18$ for an overwhelmingly dry and unimpressive blackened chicken sandwich. The seasoning was burned onto the chicken terribly. The sprite I had was 3$ and was the tastiest thing I ordered. Apparently, according to other reviews, the beer is nice. I wouldn't know as I don't drink, but I guess the only way to enjoy ever coming here is by drinking alcohol. Sounds about right. The service was also terrible. One of the waitresses had her belly exposed, and while we had our hands raised, it took way, way longer than it should have for someone to finally come over to see what we needed. After they looked directly at our table several times, of course. The literal only reason why this is 2 stars and not 1, is because the tater tots were good. That's all I can say. We have been going there for 15 years! Went today with my family of four at lunch and asked for a booth, restaurant was not busy, several available. Hostess offered us a hi top. We again asked for a booth and said we can wait. She then walked away from us without saying anything and placed menus and 2 place settings on a booth across the restaurant and walked away. We went and sat down and someone else brought us 2 more place settings. We waited 15 minutes while no one waited on us in a very unbusy restaurant. We got up and left and I said "thank you for your help " to the hostess as we left. She didn't blink. Foothills food has never been that good but their service and beers have always been great. The service today was F-. Me and my family will never be back nor will I drink their beer any more. Bad service can ruin a day and a relationship with a restaurant, and that happened today. read more

Have been to Foothills Brewing Restaurant in downtown Winston a few times. It's a mixed bag for me personally, the beer is good and it's a kinda cool location for larger groups. The food I would say is okay, nothing special and portions are okayish depending upon what you get. The prices are a tad on the high side for what you get, service is hit or miss, and parking sucks as you're gonna need to pay for parking in a pay lot or deck to eat at a middling restaurant unless you're gonna walk a few blocks parking in on a dark sketchy street. If you're out on a date night venture and looking for a cool place with beer, I'd more recommend the Foothills Tasting Room on Stratford and catching it when they have a food truck there on schedule. It's the same good beer with better food and a cool indoor and outdoor area to chill at. read more

I've been coming here for years with groups of kids or with my family or using it as a gathering spot for organizations, events etc. What has happened? The food was expensive and well, bad and the service was awful. Last night we went to celebrate my son's successful Christmas chorus production with a nosh at Foothills. Both kids got hamburgers - one came with frozen tater tots and the other with a small side of mashed potatoes. I got a side salad which was tiny, anemic, tasteless and cost 7 dollars....what? My son asked to sub his hamburger patty for the veggie burger - the veggie burger came with arugula, garlic aioli, roasted peppers and smoked gouda....he wanted none of that, just the patty, ketchup, onion and pickle. All the burgers came with pickles, or so lied the menu. The waitress said she was going to ring in the regular burger, 16 as opposed to 19/veggie, because Dashiell wasn't getting all the fixings on the veggie burger. When the bill came we had been charged 19, not 16 PLUS an additional dollar for 2 tiny slivers of onion and pickle (again, the pickle was supposed to come with each burger). So it was over 50 dollars for 1` hamburger plain, 1 veggie burger basically plain, a tiny tasteless side salad and one drink?!?!? No-one asked how my daughter wanted her burger cooked and it was so raw in the middle that she stopped eating it, she was already embarrassed bc I had to ask for another salad bc my first one was incorrect. We sat in Foothills being bombarded with insanely loud and indecipherable trivia booming from the back room like garbled subway stop announcements in NYC, we sat there for almost 2 hours. WHY? It was not busy. We didn't dilly dally with our order. So, slow service, food not good but then for the peach of the evening we get the check and it is 20 dollars yes 20 dollars for Dashiell's veggie patty with bun, 2 razor thin slivers of onion and pickle + bland mashed potatoes and then 16 for Cora's plain half raw hamburger and tots, 10 for my drink, and 7 dollars for a small side of old lettuce, limp shredded carrots and tasteless dressing. When I asked the server to clarify the check because of the whole ringing in Dashiell as the regular hamburger but charging more than the veggie burger, she got nervous and apologized saying she would send the manager over. The manager came over and was arrogant, aggressive and so rude. He said that the VEGGIE PATTY was the most expensive item ON THEIR MENU?!?! I didn't even know what to say to that and saw clearly that he wasn't interested in hearing what I had to say or in making our visit pleasant. When I asked why we were charged for pickles when the menu clearly said that they came with each burger he just sneered at me and walked off. I paid and my kids were irate saying that they never want to eat at Foothills again. I am 100% in favor of that. As someone who has worked in VERY demanding service industries for all of my life I was just stunned by the total disregard for customer service, for being uncharged without explanation and for just being spoken to so rudely in front of my kids that they were stunned. They said they will never agree to come back to Foothills, will not recommend it for post events and will tell their many friends that it should be avoided. What a shame. I hope Foothills gets a new menu, a reality check about the quality v prices of their food, hires a new manager and just gets an overall update. Very Very Disappointed! read more

Well, I fell for the temptation of the $16 Beer Cheese Nachos and with a price tag that high it would seem as thou meat would be included however adding chicken cost $6 which raised the price to $22. Unfortunately that $6 chicken looked and tasted like it had been from a microwavable pack and would make sense why the herbs on the chicken had no flavor. The $16 nachos were also bland even though there should have been plenty of opportunity for flavor with the amount of toppings on the chips, well, minus the cheese bc the cheese pictured is all there was. The food always seems to be consistent with disappointment here as this isn't my first visit where I've experienced bland or bad food. I should have known the place had gone down hill once they stopped making their beer based ketchup the same as it always has been and no longer bring it out unless asked and how I discovered my favorite ketchup has failed me too. So buyer beware to avoid these all together unless you want to experience some of the worst nachos out there with one of the highest prices. read more

Our sandwiches were as good as they are when eating at the restaurant. I also liked that they use bio-degradable packages. This was a 7.5/10 solid lunch spot for a Saturday afternoon in Winston-Salem. I had the pub salad and the Winston Hot Chicken sandwich. The Ranchouse dressing is phenomenal and has an excellent kick. I would highly recommend getting this with any salad or fried that you want to spice up. The hot chicken sandwich had a really good flavor, nothing like Nashville's hot chicken flavor, but still very good. I wouldn't say it's overly spicy either. The beer cheese sauce that came on my side of broccoli was pretty watered down. The beers I got were just alright (two different IPAs), nothing to write home about. It was a good atmosphere, the bartender was nice and gave me some recommendations for around town, and the food certainly will have me coming back. read more

GET THE WINSTON HOT CHICKEN! My dad and I have been on the hunt to find Hattie Bs style Nashville hot chicken in Winston and this is the one. The chicken is tender, and juicy. The sauce is outstanding. Everything about the chicken is good. The sides are good as well! I normally get tater tots but the steamed broccoli, Moravian slaw, and fries are also really good sides to get as well. This truly is the best chicken sandwich in Winston-Salem. Also the beer at Foothills awesome as well! My fav beer to get with the sandwich is the thousand smiles it pairs nicely with the sandwich in my opinion. We were definitely expecting the wings to be out of this world.. the Wings were decent but the sauce was not the best. We did enjoy the fries and pickles. The wait was crazy! If not, you should because it's consistently delicious, better than your average bar food and the portions are really good.
