This place is so pathetic. I took my eyeglasses to get a prescription, and I could sense the negative energy as soon as I walked in--they were not interested in helping me. They instantly gave me the runaround, claiming they couldn't put lenses in the frame because it didn't have a screw. I went to BIG OPTICAL OAKPARK afterward, and they easily popped out the lenses and put them back in, taking care of my needs with ease. I was very happy to give them my business. They also have such a wide variety of cool frames that are out of this world. This will be my favorite store from now on. After being a customer at For Eyes for so many years, I will not be returning. How can you be an eyewear professional and have no idea what you're talking about, making excuses about a metal frame, etc. Also, your system for handling waiting customers is terrible! The lady told me to wait in a chair, not realizing that the people sitting there were waiting to see the doctor. Dr. V is the best eye doctor I've seen! She is thorough and really listens and cares for her patient. My eye exam was not rushed and she made sure to test me properly for the best prescription. Other eye doctors treat you like a number and just want you in and out. Eric was the tech that did my pre testing. He's funny and such a a ray of sunshine to be around. Eric was able to find eye benefit through my insurance and give me the best possible deal on my contacts! I came on a slower day and was given undivided attention. I'm sure some days are better than others for some, but be patient with your doctor and tech as they juggle multiple tasks. Also, I recommend making an appointment over a walk in. When I moved back to the area in 2018, I did not hesitate in returning to For Eyes in Oak Park. I start off with a yearly eye exam which is easy to book and the doctor is thorough. In one of the first exams years ago, they saw an issue and referred me to an ophthalmologist. I say this to explain the exam isn't just for eyeglass prescription. They really do check your eyes. Good variety of lenses, designer and budget minded. Experienced staff who know their way with insurances and FSA funds. Everyone is friendly and pleasant. Clean, bright place. I go back every year and just purchased new glasses in Dec 2024. Received glasses a few weeks later and they were able to tighten new glasses on sight while I waited. My elderly disabled mother went to this establishment today because they charged her $800.00 for two pairs of eyeglasses. One pair of eyeglasses she never received and the other, she took back under less than thirty days because she was referred to a specialist by their Ophthalmologist, who said she did not need the eyeglasses after having Lasik surgery. I'm very upset because my mother told me the manager Heidi McInery spoke to her in a very condescending manner. My mother is on a fixed income and to charge her credit card for eyeglasses she doesn't have in her possession is thievery. This will be reported as elder financial abuse. I had an 11:40am appointment today. I arrived at 11:15am just to make sure I was there early and not late. Fought through traffic for a hour. Just to received a call 5 minutes before my appointment time, stating that my appointment was being cancelled. I have been putting out my eye care for a while now and finally found time by putting in PTO from work. And this is the result. This used to be a good store when located within Walgreens, but quality has really suffered with their move. I had a 1120 appt and was informed that they would not be honoring that is they were overbooked and I had booked online. They proceeded to take care of a patient who had an 1140 appt who arrived after me. They also were not able to give me an estimate how long I'd need to wait. The staff showed absolutely no respect for my time and treated me rudely for booking online. The doctor was very nice but she warned me it was becoming more so a medical issue and told me to go to a specialist instead which again isn't an issue. The eye doctor is terrific, and that's just the beginning of the terrific service. They are careful about explaining your insurance so you understand your frame options. Even after you leave with your glasses, the service continues. Today I came back in two pair that needed repair. It was more intricate and time -consuming than I expected but Heidi got it done. I used to go to the Walgreens location downtown and when they moved we were directed to go to the Oak Park location..never again!!! Hate to leave this review because I really like the optometrist but staff and management lacks! The girls downtown were awesome, not so much in oak park. Manager Heidi has had me run around and lies to cover up lies which is more frustrating. She was supposed to mail my contacts and glasses, I chased down my contacts a week after they arrived-she had not mailed them. Then when my glasses finally arrived last week she called to let me know she mailed them but did not provide a tracking number. Still no glasses...I called today and they said she's the only one that can access a tracking number, was on break and would not return for another two hours...whose lunch break is two hours, not my business but I hate dealing with unprofessional staff. She's been there forever she always mentions it, maybe she's been there too long...errr...I just want my glasses. read more

For Eyes Oak Park This location should be avoided at all costs. The reasons I must give this extremely negative review follow from my interaction earlier today and for additional information I learned later. Approximately 4 years ago, I changed my optometrist to the Oak Park location of For Eyes. I had my prior eye doctor forward all my records to this location (about 40 years of optometric care). I called on February 9, 2023 and informed the employee who answered my call, Darius, that I was changing my optometric provider and I wanted to have my records forwarded to the new provider. Darius stated that my prescription had expired and he could not give me a copy because "it was against company policy." I tried to explain that For Eyes had my records going back many years from my prior providers and they needed to be sent to the new provider. When Darius tried to get me to come to the office instead of simply complying with my request, the conversation became heated. Apparently, Darius even though working at a provider covered by HIPAA does not know that the medical records belong to the patient. Darius never asked me to sign a consent form for release of records. I terminated the conversation stating I would be there in 5 minutes to get my records. Five minutes later I arrived at the Oak Park location and introduced myself to the technician, Darius, who was measuring a patient's eyes in plain view from the front desk. I identified myself, he responded that he would be with me in a few minutes. Darius stepped away from my view and returned shortly with 2 sheets of paper, my last prescription, which he previously stated he could not give me. I demanded the rest of my records. Darius would not give me a reason why I could not have them. I saw that I had no alternative so I started to leave. As I was at the door with Darius following me, he stated "that is all you need." At which point I swore at him for lying about my records and the arrogant retort "that is all you need." Subsequently a corporate representative of For Eyes called me and I learned that when Dr. Vanessa Cohen left the Oak Park For Eyes location, all the employees subsequently quit and the current staff and the Oak Park location had no access to Dr. Cohen's records. Since Dr. Cohen left more than one year ago, why the current staff did not know they could not get the patient's records that she treated, why I was not immediately informed of this and why I was treated discourteously when asking for my medical records are more than ample reasons to avoid this location of For Eyes. If the ratings allowed for no stars, that would be appropriate. read more

I called after LensCrafters in Berwyn at the Cermak Plaza turned me away for being 11 minutes late for a 12 noon appointment. Not only did For Eyes repair my only pair of eyeglasses on the spot and free of charge but they were thorough and knowledgeable about my current eye care needs. For Eyes also accepts almost all major vision plans but they're also affordable and extremely accommodating. Personally, the optometrist Dr. James Yonkee is great! He is very caring, knowledgeable, and humorous. I've been going to this location for over 2 years I believe and I'm always happy and able to see (haha, thank goodness) after my visits. My experience with the exam a few months ago was fine, but I have since moved out of state and called to request a copy of my eyeglass prescription be sent so I could order glasses. I don't have a copy from my appointment on file, and I don't remember receiving a paper copy. I ordered my contact lenses from their office but was not ready to purchase glasses at the time of my appointment. When I called the first time, the girl on the phone informed me that the only way to get a copy of my prescription sent was to fax a release form to me, which I would have to sign and fax back, then they could release my prescription. I don't have access to a fax machine. She said "because of HIPPA" she could not e-mail the record to me, and they were "out of stamps so I don't know how long it would take to mail." After some thought, I called back the next day to ask the same question as this just didn't seem right, and I got completely different reasoning: she couldn't e-mail it to me because "they don't have an e-mail address" and couldn't mail a hard copy to me "because of HIPPA." I've been going to this office since 2012 and have never experienced this. The girl on the phone did nothing to help me find a solution and basically said "can't help you, sorry." I'm not even sure them holding my prescription essentially hostage is legal. read more

Stephanie is awesome! Came in today 12/31 to use my Flex Spending benefit balance a few hours before it totally expires (yep I love to plan ahead!). This ALSO happens to be the busiest day of the entire year for these guys and of course I could not find a pair of frames I liked for the life of me. My SA, Steph, spent a TON of time helping me find frames and honestly appraising each, regardless of this being the worst day of the year for them. An hour passed and I still couldn't decide. One of the SA's said the frames I was picking out looked alot like the frames Steph was wearing so Steph immediately hands over her OWN glasses for me to try on! Wow - that's amazing. Of course, Steph's frames were *perfect*. But of course these frames were SOLD OUT. No worries, Steph would find them for me at ANOTHER store and get them in for me, so that I could use my benefits today and not lose any money. Holy cow. Such great service!! Now I know why they are #1 on Yelp for Oak Park eyewear stores. On top of this, I've been wearing glasses all my life but NEVER knew, until Steph told me, that Windex tears up your lens' anti-reflective and anti-scratching coating as well as the frame finish - and naturally that's ALL I've ever used on my glasses, followed by swiping them on my shirt or a dish towel - which I learned also kills your glasses bc of the fabric softener and nylon (plastic) that is generally in both. At the end of the day, I walked away with a fab pair of Buddy Holly / Warby Parker type nerd glasses AND a replacements on the rx lenses of my beloved Gucci sunglasses - for LESS than the cost of ONE pair of glasses I bought last week in a Boystown boutique optical shop. I've been coming here for a year now, after decades with another Oak Park optical shop that closed. I've had my eyes checked here twice (once for contacts, later for glasses) and found the doctors thorough, professional and willing to answer my questions. The young man who helped fit me for my glasses was pleasant and super helpful. Yes, For Eyes is more expensive than I expected, but that's just the way of the eyewear industry these days. And yes, their pricing can seem confusing. But I think a lot of that is trying to compare/contrast their promotions with my insurance benefits to get me the best price. So on balance, I'm happy with For Eyes and am sure I'll be back. PS Got a sweet pair of FREE sunglasses for my birthday, which I appreciated. read more

The women that worked there were extremely pleasant, knowledgeable, and funny. They were quite patient as I tried to make a decision based on the high cost of my glasses. Although I usually use insurance, it always seem like I walk out spending way more than I had planned for. While normally, I would've just gotten my prescription and left to purchase glasses elsewhere (based on price,) it was easier to make the sacrifice base on Veronica and Leah's great customer service. They seem to have a great co-worker relationship as well! Most importantly, I love how the doctor explains everything very clearly and does such a thorough job. I don't think I've ever met such friendly people at a business before, and Eric spent ages bringing me glasses frames to suit my face and eyes. I ended up with a pair I'm really excited about. I had a great experience at For Eyes Optical. The staff was friendly, attentive and transparent throughout the process. After moving to Oak Park from Minneapolis, I was expecting to see an increase in cost of care and glasses/contact lenses. I'm happy to say that I actually saved quite a bit compared to what I'm used to. There were some great discounts for purchasing glasses + contacts together and the staff was quick to point out the best price/value options. I went here to try and pick out a pair of glasses with my sister-in-law. She has restrictions on glasses that she can wear, and the customer service was great in here! They were not at all pushy, and took a great deal of time with us trying to find something that she would like and that would work for her, which wasn't an easy task. They also didn't pass judgement on her opinions of glasses and instead tried to help her find a pair that she liked, not a pair that they thought looked best on her.
