I was very pleased with the atmosphere of the restaurant. I expected a typical low-budget scenery with the same menu as any other Chinese restaurant in the area but this wasn't the case here. I think that Forbidden Palace is being confused with Forbidden City. I never visited FC, but FP proved to be a really nice restaurant outing tonight. If I had viewed the three 1 star reviews before I checked in, I might not have visited. That would have been a shame. The restaurant is newly remodeled and is situated next to the Bonefish Grill and a couple of doors down from Braise. It is open and modern. There is a large square shaped bar in the middle with a small sushi bar in the middle of that. Booths line the side wall and there are tables as well. For starters, I ordered the Watercress Soup and my wife ordered the Corn Soup. Mine was $4.95 and hers was $3.95. Both had large quantities of meat. Mine was extremely tasty and I could have honestly had one Dim Sum after the soup and would have been content for the evening. I ordered the House Pancit noodles and my wife ordered the Chicken and Broccoli, both basic Chinese fare Other than being a tad bit salty, both dishes were excellent. Fortunately we did not order a big entree but even with the dishes we ordered, we ended up taking more than half of it home. We will definitely return. The waitress was great. Service was quick and friendly, price was surprisingly low (even with two draft Kirins) and I will try the Mango Mousse next time. So last night we made plans to go to a Chinese restaurant. We went to three different places that were advertised to be open on yelp and all of them were closed! (Late on a Sunday night).. So we just happened to drive by this Forbidden Palace Chinese restaurant and stopped in for a late dinner... We were not disappointed! The food was amazing! My son got the house fried rice which was very very good, my other son got chicken and broccoli (which he never eats broccoli and usually it stays on the plate but everyone ate it), my other son got pork lo mein and it was also great.. We ordered sushi which took a little longer to come out than I would have desired, but it was worth the wait! I would gladly have waited longer... Not to worry, we filled in the gap of time by drinking from the good selections offered... Kirin on tap, wine selection decent and this apple Sake that was very tasty.. I would like to say that we ate the sushi but we couldn't because it melted in our mouth!! But when we tried to leave the chef insisted that we stay for an extra complimentary dessert.. In my group there were 7 of us this place was great because we could make reservations and our table was ready as soon as we got there. I picked something basic- chicken fried rice and egg drop soup. In my opinion, you can tell a lot about a Chinese restaurant by how their fried rice tastes. It's one of the most basic dishes, yet many restaurants mess it up. (For example, PF Chang's fried rice is tasteless and disgusting!) Forbidden Palace's fried rice was delicious! Tender white meat chicken and flavorful fried rice with onions, egg, and scallions. I didn't even use soy sauce, because it had so much flavor. The egg drop soup was great as well. My mom had pepper steak and she loved it as well. They give you very large portions too, so I'm looking forward to eating leftovers for lunch tomorrow. The restaurant is small, but nice. This restaurant has a great lunch menu, reasonably priced and delicious food! We had tofu lettuce wrap and Generals Tofu. Even if you don't like tofu, you'd love this. Robust flavor and just the right amount of heat! Nedra was our server and she was very attentive (but not too much so) and very meticulous in boxing our take home left overs. I wanted so badly to like this place. My husband and I ordered the Szechwan beef, ma po tofu with pork, steamed pork dumplings, and the Hong Kong wonton soup. The Szechwan beef was actually the best thing we ordered, decent flavor, but the dinner portion size was way too small for $18 and it didn't come with rice! What kind of beef and vegetable dish for $18 at a Chinese restaurant doesn't come with rice?! The dumplings were bland and served with a thimble sized portion of watery sauce. The Hong Kong wonton soup wontons were bland and hard as golf balls. And the ma po tofu was just nasty, seriously just bad! The food here is horrible, now did take however live very close. We asked for two dishes to be spicy pork and beef, was the most under spiced and mild dishes ever and the protein mushy and veggies seemed old. Even the egg roll was mushy. We use to frequent forbidden city and enjoyed there food. We will be out looking for other place to enjoy cuisine with Asian influence. Too bad usually go once a week. Worst of all we called to complain to manager they never returned phone call. Leads one to believe they get many complaints. I live at the oceanfront and drove 20 mins just to come here for lunch. It is well worth the drive. The atmosphere is clean and spacious. The wait staff are all very kind and welcoming. My waitress was so kind and very knowledgeable about the menu. She even kept a little note pad on her so she could answer any questions about what is in every dish, I was really impressed! I ordered the sesame shrimp with fried rice off the lunch menu. The food came out quickly and the presentation was nice as well. I wish I could have taken a picture but I couldn't wait to dig in! The shrimp were large jumbo shrimp that were cooked perfectly, and had just the right amount of breading, just perfect! The sauce was so good and the fried rice had nice flavor with nice pieces of pork in it. I ate EVERY bite of this meal. It was so delicious and I will definitely be back! Forbidden Palace is the perfect size and the "Orange Chicken" keeps me coming back to this newly opened Chinese Restaurant. I'm upset I even have to give a star- the service was that bad. A few friends and I ordered a couple specials and rolls for dinner and waited about an hour for anything to come out. There were customers who came after us getting their meals while we waited for appetizers. Our waitress didn't turn in our order in a timely matter nor was she anywhere to be found. Our check was the wrong amount and we had to wait a long time for that along with our food bagged. We even had to ask for out food to-go because we waited that long. After leaving we checked to make sure we had everything- and found other food we did not order. It must have been someone else's! So, we had to go back to fix this mistake. And what a shame it is that the business didn't even to compensate for our time and trouble. Shame on the waitress for her poor service but what a disgrace this business is for allowing so many mistakes as these to happen without any compensation. However, I was grateful there was a kind bartender that offered a salad and apologized for the inconveniences.The food was good, don't get me wrong- but I wouldn't spend my money there again because of the overall service. Forbidden Palace is awful!!! I was a fan of Forbidden City which served authentic Chinese food in a fine dining atmosphere, but saddened when it closed. A few months later Forbidden Palace opened and I was told that it had been the same restaurant serving the same menu items and now offering even more food items with the addition of sushi, I was then told that the only difference was that it was under new ownership. Except that the food was not the same and not even MSG could make their food delicious. It sounded good on their menu but once I had a whiff of their Beef Chow Mein the putrid stench turned me off! So then, I tried the sushi and would have been better off ordering those sushi pieces from a truck stop gas station in the middle of nowhere. Needless to say, most people would be better off finding another Chinese restaurant elsewhere or ordering take out and eating sushi in a legitimate sushi restaurant! read more
