Thus was a great little stop before getting to Zion. I'm a sucker for cute animals and this place did not disappoint. The shop itself has a variety of souvenirs, jewelry and if you are lucky you can try their ice cream! Support these small businesses, they are what make these road trips so much more fun! read more

I could easily throw it a 5th star but let's not get carried away. It is a solid 4.5 and for me, one of those little gems I search for while on vacation. From the road, it appears like just another tourist stop designed to sell you a Zion t-shirt and other trinkets most of us don't need. I actually passed it probably a half dozen times during road trips to Zion but this time we were staying down the road at the Zion River RV Resort so I decided to stop in. The front of the business was exactly what you expect, roadside shopping for everything Zion. But attached to the shops, a restaurant that advertised homemade ice cream. Well, it was 103 outside so that caught my attention so it was time to get our lunch on! Their overhead menu had some interesting choices on it. Rattlesnake burger, ram burger and even the elusive jackalope burger. I didn't go too exotic, trying the buffalo burger and my wife went with the elk. The prices of each were certainly attention grabbing. Mine was $15 and my wife's came in at $18. They did have a burger special for less than $7 for those on a budget but I didn't come here for a regular patty on a store bought bun. I wanted their specialties. Even their buns came on homemade bread with four different options including gluten free. We went with the sourdough and it was terrific! It came with house cut fries and the burgers were juicy and cooked to perfection. Certainly worth the money and a pleasant surprise from a roadside kitchen. We finished off our visit with a scoop of their homemade ice cream, an interesting flavor of orange chocolate chip. It was heavy on the orange and my wife loved it. Overall, this was a great place to stop. While the food was a bit pricy, I felt it was worth the cost. The quality was superior and anyone can buy some frozen meat patties and throw them on a grill to fleece weary travelers but you could taste the quality in the preparation and their ingredients. If you have a family of 5 in-tow and you are on a budget, you might need to stick with their $7 option but if you are coming back from a long day of exploration at near by Zion you can certainly get your food on here with no regrets. read more

What a fun place. We were driving to Zion and stopped because of the cool looking old west town beside the trading post. It costs $2 to go to the petting zoo and explore the buildings, they even have carrots to feed the animals. It honestly would seem like a waste to drive by and not stop. read more

The sign boasts all 'homemade' - I think I believe it! Apple pie -- AMAZING! Just get it. You won't be sorry. It is literally fresh tasting apple pie mixed in with some vanilla ice-cream. DELICIOUS! Banana nut (the wrong scoop) - if I could describe banana nut bread in ice cream form, this would be it. Truffle caramel - also yummy! Super creamy with a swirl of caramel. Yum!!! She gave me the wrong scoop - let me keep it and gave me the correct one at no charge (which is as it should be but still nice because some shops might try to pull a fast one). The outside is decorated super cute with tiny houses, set up sort of like a forgotten town. It's worth the stop if you're heading out from Zion (or maybe into it). read more

Spotted this place from the road. I've been here three different times and if the little buildings outside don't catch your eyes. Then you better pull over! Outside there's what the original owner calls (Play Houses -that he once made for his kids when they were smaller) are now for great photo opportunities. Large gift shop with plenty of souvenirs. Outside there's a little farm with donkey, alpaca, pony and a few other animals. For $1 admission and $1 for carrots you can hangout and feed them. The restaurant was delicious. All homemade food. RIBS! Share with someone! $9.99 special half rack, fries, bread, beans, and salad! Lots of food options! Also they make homemade ice cream and cones! Must stop here! I come and bring people here all the time, but I'd rather spend money at a place more local and friendly to locals. The attitude changed here and they're blaming other people. Their restaurant closed "because people are stupid and don't want to work"... Are they stupid or do you suck to work for? I waited three minutes at the register to pay while the cashier was on her phone because she "had to order lunch". Ok... The place has "Don't California my Utah" swag and I get it, but that's a piss poor attitude that reflects in your leadership, customer service, and I hope you change for the better. read more

A super random stop on the way back from Zion, but very glad I did! Fort Zion is a whole bunch of things in one. 1. Restaurant = check 2. Gift Shop = check 3. Petting Zoo = check 4. Random Collection of Miniature Buildings = check Most importantly, however, was their HOMEMADE ICE CREAM! Yep .. you heard me right ... Home.Made.Ice.Cream ... and it was sooooo good! I had the Oatmeal Raisin Cookie and the Wild Huckleberry! Both were really good and had a great consistency. The oatmeal raisin actually tasted like i was eating a cookie. What the what?? The petting zoo is great and a fun experience for the kids. The lady behind the counter was acting very odd, seemed like she was either drunk or on something. Take your appetite elsewhere, though! Service is average at very best, it took 40 minutes to get 5 hamburgers and there was only 1 other group that ordered ahead of us. If you insist on eating here, order your food before walking around the trading post and doing the petting zoo, you'll have plenty of time to do those things waiting for your food. The burger I got was super greasy/oily and I went through 3 napkins just wiping the grease off my hands, see picture of the puddle of grease in my food tray after I finished the burger. Flies were all over our food and table inside as well. Does this place pass a health rating? 1 star for the restaurant and 3 stars for the outpost/petting zoo. read more

This place was awesome. My daughter stopped in here on a whim as we were headed to Zion. What a cool place to take some photos, and pet/feed their animals. The place is kept up very nicely (and you have to pay to enter the little petting zoo area but it was a dollar a person and you get carrots to feed the animals). We stopped here on the way back from Zion. Its a tourist trap, but a pretty good one. They have a diner that sells food and home made ice cream, a petting zoo, and a large gift shop. The place is built to look like an old west fort. They also build a small old west town out front, which is part of the petting zoo area. The petting zoo (which we were too tired to do) is only a dollar per person, which seems pretty cheap. They also sell carrots to feed the animals. The gift shop is the largest part of Fort Zion, and it mainly sells Indian and old west souvenirs. They had a very large selection, bigger than most stores, and their prices seemed reasonable. The diner area has a touristy saloon look. The home made ice cream was very good, and they offer free taste. Nice place to stop on they way to, our from Zion. read more

Charming & almost too cute for words. After a day of exploring Zion we were starving & I remembered passing by this very curb appealing place on our way to the park. It's so charming from the street that it's almost impossible not to want to stop by and check it out. It's decor is old & charming with a fun twist and when you walk in you're greeted by an older lady who makes you feel right at home. After walking around for a few minutes and checking out the gift shop we chose to eat the special which was prickly pear BBQ ribs with fries & a south west salad and an Indian bread with buffalo chili and all sorts of other great toppings. I've always wanted to try Indian bread! The ribs were tender & sweet, the salad had the best homemade ranch dressing ever and the fries were bomb! Now for the Indian bread! It was hot, crispy, and fluffy inside! Loved it. The service was also spectacular and these folks make you feel so welcome. After a long day of the outdoors this was the perfect stop on our way home. They also make homemade desserts such as incredible ice cream and we had to try the prickly pear & Zion nuts which had rum in it! Wow! Both tasted fantastic! We saw this place on our way to Zion and stopped by on our way back. First there is an actual storefront filled with souvenirs like figuerines, jewelry, and buffalo jerky-Not my cup of tea.... Then for a $1.00 entrance fee you get to go into the petting zoo area and for $1.00 more you get a carrot to feed the animals. There were Illamas,Donkeys,Deer,Ponies, and chickens running around freely (only the chickens were running around freely) we even saw a tiny bunny running around. Then there are those fake western town mini buildings for cool photo ops.... We really had fun with those especially at Miss Molly's "House of Negotiable Affection". Before you leave try your hand at pumping water from the water well.... Fun place for everyone but beware it does stink because of the animals and you will see poop!!!! read more

This is such a fun place for families! We had a quick lunch on our way out from Zion and the place actually has good food. I had a rib special and my family had different kind of burgers. They were a little greasy but tasty. Portions are huge and the prices were really reasonable compared to food in DT Zion. Came in for the petting zoo and found it being closed as soon as we came there, because there were 2 alpacas beating up one more, which was dead at that point. People have been telling front staff for a while that it's going on, but they failed to listen. read more

You know it a bad sign when you go to a restaurant and there's nobody there. Came here on a whim because I was getting bored of the restaurants in Springdale. Sharing a space with the petting zoo and gift shop, the restaurant is located to the left side. Came in was greeted by the staff. I think I was the only customer in the whole building. They have their menu listed on the overhead and specials to the right. I wanted beef ribs but the cashier told me their supplier won't be getting any for a long while. Then proceeded to tell me a few other menu items weren't available (a sticker or sign would have been helpful.). A sign proudly displayed in front said there was a fried chicken special but that too was unavailable, the cashier only advised grilled chicken was available since they weren't frying. Seems like almost everything I wanted was not available. Settle on the bbq pork ribs and bbq chicken. Cashier let us play roulette with our playing card place holder, if we land on that card on the wheel, we get free ice cream! We did not get free ice cream. food came in 10 mins later. Each order came with salad, beans and fries. Sides were decent but the main courses tasted microwaved and not fresh. Pork ribs had the chewiness of jerky. The bbq chicken had the consistency of left over chicken. Sadly I could barely put a dent in my meal before I called it quits. Overall I'd avoid this stop. On our way to Zion National Park we stopped at the Ft. Zion trading post located in Virgin, UT. This trading post is located on the west side of the park, a few miles from the entrance. Ft. Zion is a gift shop/diner/petting zoo. After a lot of driving, we stopped here to stretch our legs. After looking around the gift shop, we paid the $1 per person to enter the petting zoo. We also purchased 3 carrots for $1 to feed the animals. The petting zoo has a couple miniature horses, a donkey and a few llamas/alpacas. They also have a deer, but there is no access to feeding it. We had fun with the animals. There is also a little play area for the children, with decorated playhouses including a bank, jail, hotel, etc. Nice place to stop for some cheap entertainment! We also stopped down the road about 1 mile to check out the ostrich farm alongside the road. read more

I cannot believe I did not review this place earlier. I LOVED IT HERE! We stopped on the way in and out of the park and then before leaving home because it was so awesome and I fell in love with the donkey (which I nicknamed Shrek). I think he loved me too! I'll get to that in a bit... Yes, the Trading Post looks like a tourist trap and it is, but one of the best I have ever been to! Once you get past the cute little "town" they have set up with tons of great photo ops, the store itself is fairly large. Each time we visited, we were welcomed in and the employees were incredibly nice and helpful. While the store is filled with mostly standard touristy stuff and snacks, we did get some incredible fudge along with some other cool stuff to bring home. There is also a restaurant, but we didn't eat in any one of our visits. The real highlight for me was the petting zoo. For a buck you gain access to llamas, ponies, deer and the most awesome donkey ever, Shrek. Spend a few more buck and you can get carrots and feed them all. Of course 99% of my carrots fed my new boyfriend. Anytime I would leave to see other animals he would stomp his feet and "talk" me into staying with him, which was a pleasure. From what I understand, all of the animals are rescues of various sorts. You should definitely check this place out. Please give some ear rubs to Shrek from me when you do! read more

A total tourist trap for sure but it was still worth the stop and still fun. They have a small petting zoo thing but we declined. We did look around the place and saw plenty of interesting nick knacks. Saw a pack of AA batteries for sale that expired back in 2008 for the low price of $3.99. Got a bite to eat in the restaurant and was actually surprised on how good the food was. Fresh made burger with a homemade bun. They have a "vary old" player piano going that's is kinda fun too. The petting zoo was definitely my highlight of coming here. Don't get any of the "native Indian jewelry" they sell here, they over charge you and on top of that they claim all their jewelry is sterling silver, every piece of jewelry i got here tarnished in days. read more

A tourist type stop on the way to Zions. They have a petting zoo in front as well as some Western props that are ripe for photo opportunities. Their restaurant serves Buffalo, Beef, Boar, and Rattlesnake burgers. They also have homemade ice creams. Service is friendly. Food is made to order so avoid peak times. If you need a break from driving give their ice cream a try and listen to their player piano. The food is edible and pricey, not extraordinary. We got a buffalo and kids burger with one drink which totalled $32. The bathrooms are clean just bring napkins because paper towels are none existent. read more
