Found this place on yelp and was pleasantly surprised. Joe was reasonably priced (2 tier cake with 2 different flavors) was less than $200. He was able to create exactly what I wanted off of a picture I provided. Cake was fresh and moist. Frosting was light and delicious. Joe was so flexible with the time too. On a Thursday afternoon in late September, I decided to buy a Chinese strawberry cake for hubby. The owner is really nice and helpful so I bought a last minute cake. He helped me write "Happy birthday " on the cake. He also had extra chocolate cakes and strawberry cakes, cookies, muffins, and buns. The cake was affordable at $28 for small size. Main impression: the man who helped us (I'm guessing he is the owner?) was SOOO nice & amiable. I appreciated the excellent customer service as well as the yummy cake. I had called the day before for a wedding cake tasting. They give you two free flavors - I picked vanilla custard and strawberry vanilla. Vanilla custard: very creamy and flavorful! Strawberry vanilla: strawberries weren't that sweet but the overall combination of cake, frosting, and strawberries tasted good! Upon the first bite, the vanilla custard stands out more but as we kept eating the two cakes, the custard becomes too sweet. Overall, I think we are leaning towards the strawberry vanilla. If you need a cake for any occasion, this is a great local bakery. Grabbed a chocolate cake with banana filling for a birthday. Size was pretty good for the price and they don't skimp on the filling. Tons of bananas and they were fresh! Usually bananas would turn brown after a while but these were far from that. Unfortunately the most recent cake I ordered from here was ok, dry on the inside, but looked good on the outside. My real complaint is with the older lady at the counter who never smiles and seems somewhat upset. I walked in to an unfriendly face and when I asked about the cake options, she didnt really seem to want explain or assist with the order. I've ordered cakes here a few times already. Once for my wedding cake. Most of the time when I order the cakes it's tiramisu for birthdays. But for my wedding cake, I went with just a simple white two-tiered with vanilla filling since we weren't serving cake. Because my venue was in Long Beach, I had my brother pick up the cake for me. Sadly, the cake slid as he drove and part of it got smooshed. My coordinator was able to cover it up to conceal the ruined part with the floral decor. I wished that the bakery would have used a larger cake board to protect the cake from touching the box. Driving carefully wouldn't have saved the cake. The board had no more than a centimeter gap from the cake. I still like the cakes here. It's run by a wife and husband and they are both very nice people. read more
