    Tarts

Overall the food was just okay here. I came late in the day so I sadly missed the egg tarts but they had plenty of po tarts which are basically milk cream custard in the tart forms. The pastry was so light and flaky with a rich and velvety filling! I wanted a savory pastry too and asked the cashier which was their favorite, they recommended the spicy curry. This wasn't the best.It wasn't bad but it also wasn't spicy nor did it have much flavor. The pastry dough itself was so much better than the entirety of the item.

Jim's Bakery might just have the best mango cake in the 626 . Mangos are consistently fresh and delicious. While the bakery itself is only open Wednesday through Sunday , which might make the ordering window seem a bit small, they come through without a problem every time I've placed an order . With that said , I've also tried several other items here as well, and they are all up to par, especially the pineapple bun. This year i ordered a half sheet mango cake along with a small 6" cake to use as a smash cake. The cake easily served over 30 guests !

Egg tart and Portuguese egg tart

Jim's bakery is a local asian bakery that's known for its egg tarts around town. This place was well recommended from my local family and friends. I tried the traditional egg tart and Portuguese egg tart here. Both egg tarts were smooth in its own way-- the egg tart being custardy and silky; the Portuguese tart being creamy and flowy. The tarts themselves are not overly sweet. As someone who has tried egg tarts from China multiple times and from family, I can say that I don't prefer these egg tarts solely due to the crust. The crust is thicker and flaky, which isn't my preference. However, I do know it is a preference, so I'm not docking any points down for that. Service was quick and simple. Ambiance is that of a standard asian bakery with pleasantly fresh bread and custardy aromas. I recommend this place if you want to grab a quick egg tart bite! (Just keep in mind of your crust preferences on tarts.)

I needed a flag cake for our friend's citizenship ceremony. I couldn't find any bakery who would or could make a custom cake on such short notice. Jane at Jim's Bakery came to the rescue. I had never heard of them. Didn't have any references. Only had someone who said they would make me a custom cake within 24 hours!!! Sent the picture of the cake I wanted and it came out perfect! They even put 50 Blueberries! Cake tasted amazing. Whip cream was Delicious. Fruit was so fresh! Attention to detail was perfection!!! Will definitely order from them again even if I live over 50 miles away! Thank you!!!!

Got some breakfast goodies got the family. Not too busy in the store when I went, but the shared parking was crazy busy. Staff are quick and friendly. Too many choices. Always get the Po Egg Tarts and sweet pastries. Prices are fair. They take cash and credit cards, but there is a minimum purchase of $20.00. Rating: 5 Stars

I was prompted to visit this establishment after viewing "The Brothers Sun" on Netflix, where Jim's Bakery was lauded for having the finest egg tarts. While I cannot definitively confirm if they are indeed the best egg tarts, I certainly savored them while they were warm. I personally find their po tarts more enjoyable than their egg tarts. I would consider returning here to purchase egg tarts as a gift, and I would inform the recipient that, according to "The Brothers Sun," these are considered the best.

I'm surprised this place doesn't have a higher average rating! This is my favorite location for buns/baos! My favorites are the pineapple milk custard bun, BBQ pork bun, pineapple BBQ pork bun, and pineapple bun. This place is unique because these buns are way above average size! And they're delicious! I love coming here to leave with a bag or two of them for the week. They're perfectly baked, the fillings are generous, and the carb to filling ratio is perfect. The service is what you'd expect from a bakery and it's pretty quite overall. Unless there are a lot of customers of course. They always run out of these buns before the day is over if that offers any insight into how delicious and popular these buns are! Highly recommend this place! I look forward to visiting every time I'm in the area.

Best Fresh Mango Cake! Delicious, light & not overly sweet! Our cake was ready in time for pick up!

    Portuguese (Po) Egg tarts

Really good egg & Portuguese (Po) egg tarts here! Even though I tend to gravitate towards the Po tarts, they are both solid options. The Po tarts, in particular, are on the sweeter side with it's caramelized surface. On the inside, you'll notice a warm and creamy/custardy texture - perfect for a bite sized pastry. In terms of the crust, it is buttery and a little flaky (still has a texture to it). However, it's not as flaky compared to other egg tart places I've had growing up in the Bay Area where the crust falls off when you bite into it. But despite this, it's still one of my favorite spots for egg tarts in the SGV area. When I stopped by yesterday ~ 1 pm, they only had 7-8 Po tarts left. Not sure if they make more after it sells out, so make sure to stop by early.

Portuguese egg tarts The burnt" spots on Portuguese egg tarts made us mouth watering. Both puff pastry and rich, creamy custard were up to standard. Good comfort snacks !

This is one of the OG Chinese Bakery for egg tarts in Monterey Park. Be sure to stop by early in the morning for freshly made egg tarts and meat pies. Ordered the Pineapple Custard Bun, BBQ Pork Pie, Chicken Pie, & Portuguese Egg Tarts (aka Po Tart). Everything tasted good. Quick and nice service. Plenty of parking and located in the same plaza as NBC Restaurant and LA Fitness on Atlantic Blvd.

Tried the egg tarts and WOW these were yummy, creamy, and subtly sweet. The beef curry pie was also very savory and flavorful with a good balance of pastry

Yes it is currently open during COVID

Is this the same owner of the Jim's Bakery on Walnut Grove in San Gabriel?

From pics it looks like the one in Monterey Park.

The cheapest and simplest one is the Portuguese egg tart and the more fancy ones are either $1.75 or $2. I tried all of them: Portuguese egg tart, cheese tart, caramel croissant tart, tiramisu tart, berry tart, and coconut tart (my favorite). We also got the salted egg yolk croissant for only $1 which is a steal although I wish it was a tad bit sweeter to balance out the salt. It was a smooth process to go in and buy. They also have a variety of specialty desserts that are in the $8 price range if you want something more extravagant. I tried the King Panda which was filled with cream cheese mousse. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, but more of the latter. We went on a Saturday and it was pretty packed but we managed to snag a seat.

Out the of the 4 items, tiramisu stood out the most. It has a strong cacao flavor, not overly sweet and heavy. The caramel egg tart is just alright, it is flaky if you eat it warm or toast it again at home. The regular egg tart is 99 cents, it's not bad but definitely not amazing. I think you can't expect too much with that price. The osmanthus pear cheesecake was my least favorite. It is very sweet and heavy, the filling/syrup that they use is too overwhelming. The store was simple and you can smell the baked goods as you walked in to the store. The service was just average, the staff were not very welcoming. Parking could be a problem. Overall, I would give this place a 3.5/5, not a must go place. Their items are just average. If you are looking for something affordability over quality and taste then this is the place to go.

This particular location though, could use some work with consistency. The selection and quality of pastries and drinks seem to vary throughout my many visits. My top pastries are all of their croissant-like pastries, especially the Pastry Frank (filled with a savory sausage inside) and Mini Strawberry Lemon Cream Croissant (filled with a smooth and tangy lemon cream and fresh strawberries that add a tartness). Both of these have flaky, buttery exterior shells that are wonderful to bite into. For cakes, I love the strawberry soft cream cake. This cake is simple, light, and not too sweet. The thin layers of vanilla, soft cream, and strawberries blend excellently together. I appreciate that they provide free candles with whole cakes. An underrated cake is the green tea roll cake, which is delicious, but not ideal for celebrations.
