We went to Forty Six for a nice meal after some gazing at the changing leaves and had high hopes from the reviews we saw but unfortunately that was not the experience we had. We walked in, no sign saying "please wait to be seated" or "Seat yourself" and no one that appeared to be in any kind of hostess position. After peering around the corner towards the kitchen multiple times we were finally greeted with a snarky "how many", no "hello, welcome to Forty Six" nothing. After being seated it seemed we were promptly forgotten about, our "waitress" obviously had more important things to do than serve customers and the rest of the wait staff refused to make eye contact. We were only 1 of 2 tables that were waiting to be served, sat right next to the register, so it was not busy at all and we were in an openly visible spot in there. After waiting nearly an hour for our order, a burger and fries for me and a Turkey sandwich and fries for my girlfriend. The burger was thrown together, ridiculously thick slices of onion and tomato and was not even close to worth the money and the sandwich was made with processed cheap deli meat. Our food (my burger especially) had obviously been reheated and was not as I ordered but was unable to communicate this to our waitress for a time, as she had apparently gone downstairs to do laundry, all the time their were multiple wait staff about the place. Finally after obviously being done with our food and more than ready to go for at-least 10 mins a nice middle aged woman (sadly the only highlight of our experience) was nice enough to go get our waitress so we could pay the check. All in all, a return trip is not in our future. I don't mind paying good money for good food and service, but getting neither is unacceptable in my opinion. read more

Great food and atmosphere and loved our server's friendly attitude! One of the best salads I've ever had to start! I got the salmon with polenta and roasted carrots and my husband ordered the pasta and livestreams dish which had the meat from the claws- the best part!! Driving up whiteface, we went here during our Adirondacks tour. We figured that we would find a delicious place in Keene and, sure enough, we walked into the first place we noticed. My father had a burger and I had the Club ordered. The fries made by hand were the best fries I have ever had. I had a coffee and was looking forward to coming home again to eat some more from the Cheeseburger. Local cool, perfect post hiking rest. Local bar. You have regular menus that make it a successful company and each season it is nice to try something fresh. I would call to book because you have limited seats and it's a small restaurant. read more

Stopped in Sunday during Mother's Day and asked if we had a reservation. We didn't as we were just finishing a hike but that didn't make them hesitate to accommodating our group of 4. We were sore, tired and above all huunnnggryyy. The service was friendly and pleasant. We had the breakfast BLT, French toast, omelette and the ginger carrot juice which was delicious. We were all impressed with how fast the food came out for how busy they were. Definetely recommend this place to stop for food on your way through. We will be back next time we are hiking for some great tasty reward from a day in the mountains. read more

Friendly, accommodating, fast service, and fresh ingredients. I was driving by headed back home when I decided to grab a bite to eat for the drive home after a day of ice climbing. I had a most delicious Cobb salad with Chicken and I wish I could have sat and enjoyed it at the restaurant which has a cozy warm atmosphere. Extremely delicious food, I would call beforehand to make a reservation because it is a small place. Although it is 6:30 and there are still open tables. It's a nice ambiance, and we were seated right away. The appetizers we had were so good. My husband and his best friend had duck fat rolls, they said they were great, the fried brussel spouts were also amazing and all of us shared them also rave worthy! Three of us had the veggie burger, I had mine on a GF roll. They were delicious! They had a nice drink menu, no cocktails. My husbands best friend had Potato Kaftan- it is a vegan entree he said it was delicious! I took a picture of it! Overall we were very pleased with it, and it was very close to were we are staying at our Airbnb! Definitely a place to visit!! read more

While looking for a breakfast location, we saw the brunch sign posted at Forty Six. Swung around and headed back- GREAT CHOICE! Egg and cheddar omelette cooked to perfection served with delicious home fries and a wheat baguette. Great service in relaxing atmosphere. read more

Bottom line: id try another restaurant if you're in the area--the food is over priced for the quality and there are other restaurants in the vicinity that might be worth trying instead. This is a highly rated restaurant and perhaps I just had the food on an off day, but I can only speak to my experience. Service: good service Food: Ordered the i climbed a mountain burger. Honestly I didn't enjoy the food, having tasted many burgers this just didn't do it for me. My girlfriend had the veggie burger and she felt the same. Given the cost of eating out, no one wants to take a chance: Forty-Six is guaranteed to delight. Four of us come for lunch regularly and are especially grateful that the cafe is open on Mondays, a rarity these days, even in the summer season. The menu is limited but for all the right reasons: the ingredients are fresh, the quality is high, the food is consistently excellent and there are always wonderful surprises. Sandwiches are generous but not overstuffed, creatively assembled without being odd. The crab cakes are superb. Today we especially loved the soup, listed on the menu as gazpacho but what arrived was a green surprise: a combination of cucumber, mint and lime that was beautiful, perfectly chilled and seasoned, served in a stemless wine glass and absolutely delicious. (N.B. Perhaps a description in the menu or by the server would be helpful, though.) The room is cosy and casual and the newly-enclosed "porch" is a wonderful addition. Servers are consistently friendly, warm and efficient. Thank you, Forty-Six! You are a stand-out in this area. read more

Just had another wonderful night at 46. The food was delicious, the service extraordinary and the restaurant cool on the hottest night of the summer. We probably stayed a bit too long because we were enjoying the meal and the company, but the staff were totally great about it. I felt that the food was even better than the previous year. Excellent for quick lunch sandwich. I had the turkey club and the whole thing was constructed properly. The bread was toasted perfectly, bacon is very tasty, not too salty and the turkey, while not as moist as I had wanted it to be is pretty good. The accompanying chips on a companion's plate were the best I've tasted - worth going in just for this. Trust me. Service was warm and efficient and the room is very airy and comfortable. Great new farm-to-table restaurant in downtown Keene. Vegetarian friendly! There is a unique selection of desserts with specials. The veggie burger with fries was very good! They serve only wine and beer. It does get busy so I would recommend calling ahead to make a reservation as there isn't much seating. There are tables outside. Forty six is our new go to spot when we visit the Lake Placid area! We ate here twice during our trip. Appetizers: The cheeseboard appetizer is excellent, the jam is a perfect compliment to the different cheesees. The brussel sprouts were perfectly roasted and everyone that tried them enjoyed them. The BEST appetizer we had was the macaroni and cheese, i was literally perfect! Main course- I had the steak dish I loved it! The steak was perfectly cooked, a little sweet and a little spicy. The fries were great as well. I dont eat arugula, which is served with it so I can't comment on that. I had the pasta dish the next day, you can totally tell how fresh all of the ingredients are another great dish. One of us got the Salmon and shared it with my daughter the both thought it was perfectly cooked and had great flavor. The fries with this dish were different from the steak and were even better! The burgers were excellent as well. Dessert- I got the lemon cup dish. It was soooo good! It has a berrie jam topping which complements the lemon with the cookie. I would eat this everyday. It wasnt heavy, and very refreshing. Our party also got the parfaits which were light, flavorful and fresh. The chocolate cake was really good and a large enough piece to share! I am a huge fan of bread pudding and this was up with the top bread pudding I have had! The resraurant decor is amazing. The scenery on the wall is beautiful. I asked about this and was told it was hand drawn with chalk by a local artist! The staff were attentive and did a grear job with service. The manager checked on us and other tables, which I think is a really great touch. If you are in the area visit the restaurant! You won't be sorry! read more

Great food and atmosphere! The menu isn't very large, but man do they have some awesome options. We shared the mac and cheese and crispy brussels sprouts to start. The mac and cheese was crazy good, while the brussels sprouts were good, but a little oily... seemed to taste more like the oil hey were fried in than anything else. Great texture though! Generous portions for appetizers too, which was nice. I got their "Just Climbed a Mountain" cheeseburger and fries, with some sriracha aioli on the side to dip. The meal was awesome! My burger was just a little overcooked... I asked for medium rare and it was more medium well. The overall flavor was fantastic, the fries were crispy and fresh, and the aioli was an awesome addition - highly recommend requesting it (although I didn't realize I would be charged extra for about 3 tablespoons of sauce added to my order, but oh well). One of my friends got the exact same thing as me and loved it as well. The two others in our party both loved their meals too! One got the pork osso bucco and one got the steak. We were all very satisfied. Again, all portions were great! The service was really great as well. Friendly and personable! Definitely recommend this place if you're in the area. read more

Entrees were salmon and the specials; homemade fetticinne with shrimp and venison. All were so good! Portions were more than satisfying and we all took home doggies bags. Stopped for lunch on a beautiful fall day. I ordered the Chipotle Maple Pulled Pork sandwich. I could taste neither the Chipotle or maple. What a fantastic find! My girlfriend and I had just completed a hike and we're looking for somewhere to eat when we stopped by here. We hadn't made a reservation and the initial response was that they wouldn't be able to accommodate us. But the hostess took a few minutes, looked at schedules, and tables and was able to get us a table. Great service right off the rip. Drinks while we waited and then we got to sit. Local cute restaurant, perfect stop for a post-hike meal. They have seasonal menus making them a sustainable establishment and it's nice to try something new every season. I would call ahead to make a reservation since they have limited seating and they're a small restaurant. The price point is what you pay for more, ranging from $8- $16 appetizers, a good amount of drink options and $16-$28 dinner plates. My go to restaurant, but the best regional chef failed me on Friday. Steak was definitely not freshly cooked at meal time; reheated from the night before at best. Like reheated leftovers at home; meat shriveled up, slightly warm on edges, cold in the middle, extremely dry, and tough. And, no matter what sauce is used on top, you cannot hide reheated cooking down below. Definitely a zero rated meal and poor decision to allow the plate to leave the kitchen. read more

Give my wife the credit for finding this delightful restaurant. The staff is super-friendly and helpful. The food is excellent. I had the Malai Kafta, an Indian dish that caught my eye and more than met my expectations. It was fresh and delicious: vegetable and potato balls in a curry spiced carrot sauce. My wife had the local cheese board. We were also lucky enough to be here the day they got their liquor license, so we were able to enjoy a really nice Pinot Noir with dinner. We stopped at Forty Six for our first time as we left Lake Placid today. I can not begin to say how great the food was! The Crispy Seared Brussel Sprouts were absolutely divine. In addition, we both had the Mountain Cobb Salad with chicken. The Cornish hen was cooked to perfection, over flavorful local greens. Equal attention to detail was evident in the decor. From the tables, chairs, flatware and dishes, to the ceiling moulding (seriously, look "up!") we were pleasantly pleased, again and again. We have been going to LP for over 20 years and though it's one of our favorite places to visit, we find it difficult to find good, healthy food using local fresh ingredients. Not anymore! We will absolutely be eating at Forty Six multiple times the next time we visit! p.s. Our waitress Leanne, could not be nicer! read more

Stopped in after driving up Whiteface when one of us was a bit too under the weather to do any hiking on our recent trip up to the Adirondacks. We knew we'd find a yummy bite in Keene and sure enough, we pulled into the first place we found and didn't even realize the name at first - how perfect! I ordered the turkey club and my dad got the burger. The hand-cut fries were honest to goodness the best fries I have ever had, and even though I was stuffed about 3/4 of the way through my meal, I kept gorging myself on those heavenly fries. I had a coffee before we hit the road, and look forward to coming back after hiking and earning myself the "I Just Hiked a Mountain" Cheeseburger. read more
