Prices went up about $2 for everything. I ordered the classic and had more lettuce on my burger than meat. My sandwich tasted like lettuce and sauce. Nothing special about this place. Always 5 star up until today my kid's ice cream was drooping as if machine wasn't cold enough and my burger patty was a bit tough as if it were pre cooked and then warmed on the griddle when ordered. Decided to stop for ice cream because I had gone to the other location in San Diego and both, the service and ice cream, was delicious. I wanted a small sundae with banana slices and the senior lady working there said they cannot put bananas because it doesn't come with them, if I want bananas I have to order a banana split. The other location put bananas in my sundae but this lady straight out said "no." I then requested a banana split and she said it comes with three different syrup flavors and I told her I only wanted one she said it comes with 3 but ok she will put one only for me. I told her to put peanuts, and she made a dumb remark, she said when her husband was alive she called him a nut and that I'm a nut; therefore, I can't have nuts because I'm a nut already. This was very disrespectful but I stayed and made sure to repeat that I wanted peanuts. I went to wait in the car because I'm in crutches and my husband brings my banana split with NO peanuts so I asked him to go ask the same lady whom I told I wanted peanuts and the lady told my husband she couldn't put peanuts because it was too late. Are you kidding me, LOL. This location does not want you to modify the dessert in any way and will expect everyone to order what you see in the picture just the way it is, this is a joke. I ended up throwing my banana split in the trash and my husband stated his cone wasn't as good at the other location. I will not be going back. They don't care about customer service and I know they don't care about my negative review but I still wanted to post it. But damn, I just noticed the lady handle cash and then handle food, w/o washing her hands or using gloves. PLEASE USE GLOVES. Also, customer service sucks ASS. WOW - I did not know there were any Fosters Freeze shops around anymore. Thankfully, there is one close to me! Same delicious cold treats including the chocolate dipped soft serve, twisters (ice cream blended with your choice of candy), shakes, floats, banana splits, etc etc. They also have food including hamburgers, hotdogs, grilled cheese, burritos and tacos. Of course their prices have increased like everything but honestly they are still very affordable. They are not riduculously expensive like baskin robbins or dairy queen. Go enjoy. It seems clear that the most popular yelping style is "yelping new/newish restaurant's in culturally sophisticated areas." That's why every new restaurant in a downtown area gets a billion yelps. But I'm more interested in yelping underrepresented neighborhoods. The business listing says this Foster's Freeze is in "Lomalita", but I saw it's in Skyline. It's directly west of the 125- right where it turns into the 54. This Foster's Freeze is totally unchanged from whenever it was built- driving by it is like driving by a living dinosaur. You can buy from outside or sit inside, though they don't appear to have air conditioning inside. Strangely, they have no outdoor seating despite the fact that the location is surrounded by empty parking lot. The chocolate in my soft serve cone tasted funky, but I don''t patronize foster's freeze more then once a year, so maybe I'm just unfamiliar with their take on "chocolate." read more

We've been coming here several times a week this summer, on account of their very reasonable pricing, the hot weather, and the economy. A large vanilla cone and a large chocolate with chocolate dip all for about $5, not bad! They lost a star for two reasons though. They no longer serve chocolate ice cream, and that borders on mean. Also, they are needlessly stingy. Some lady asked if she could have an extra cherry on her sundae and made it clear she was willing to pay for it, and she was STILL told no. Why? She's willing to pay for it! Now that's definitely mean! I set these things aside because the ice cream is good and cheap, and it's the only ice cream place in the area. And it's the perfect place to fulfill that little kid need for ice cream, and I have that need everyday :) Walk up to the window and order to your hearts desire. Captures the good old traditional ice cream! The outside of it is not pretty, but delicious & cheap ice cream! I always get the vanilla dipped cone for $1.40 I think around that price. The vanilla is definitely true vanilla! It's the yellowish kind so you know it's from vanilla extract and it's soft serve! My childhood favorite place for ice cream! They have food as well, but I never tried it. This place is great for ice cream on a hot day. I enjoyed this all American Joint. I can only speak to the ice cream though, as we did not try any of their food. My Jr. size Chip Cookie Dough Twister was very creamy and it was ginormous. I do wish my Twister had larger chunks of cookie dough, as the bits were mostly very small.The BF had a banana split that he said could do without all the sugary syrups. We had fries with our ice cream which was a nice balance between salty sweet. Really loved the All American vibe and made me feel like we should make it a date and head to the drive-in. Wifey got the rootbeer float, which I want the try the next time we're out there. I keep hearing that they got pretty decent cheeseburgers, so you know I'm gonna be up in there straight fat-girl-status one of these days. Tasty cheeseburger for around $3 and change. Quality of the meat patty is questionable and is similar to the frozen isle type. Still a good burger though because it is seared on a flat-iron griddle table burner. FYI: the waffle fries are awful! Tasted like eating a deep-fried piece of a shoe. Tasted like the cheapest fries from the 99 cent store frozen section. Never ordering those again. I love the quality of their ice cream and usually the flavor is amazing but today I went for the same order i have ordered for the past month and I got charged an extra dollar. When I asked for a receipt they only gave me a list of charges that doesn't explain what is what. If that is the catch having a hand written piece of cart board with a "cash only" then I start thinking how many people have been overcharged. Honesty of a business is crucial for me. I'm really sad for the ladies that work there because they always have us an amazing quality product for the advertised price. But is time for me to find a different location. I hadn't been in a fosters freeze since I was s child in the 70s but every time I saw this place I wanted to stop. Just didn't have time. The other day I did and I was not disappointed. A double old fashioned cheeseburger and small fries to go was $6.24 with tax. The guy who wrote the order kind of stumbled through it but got it right and knew their menu so no foul there. The small fries turned out to be plenty, they were those fat soft crinkle cut fries and were fresh to a fault almost burning my mouth 5 minutes after opening the bag. The burger had that delicious charred taste I was looking for. I was on a budget so didn't get a shake (had koolaid in my thermos) but had I had 3 more bucks would have gone for one of their shakes in about a dozen flavors. Definitely going back. read more

12/05/2019 If I could give this place negative stars I would. Was going to order ice cream while waiting for my ride. I had my dog with me who is a service animal. She starts to tell me I have to get out, I said he is a a service animal. She starts asking me for paperwork or a badge... when he had his service collar on and I pointed to it. She said no I have to get out since I don't have paper work. That is completely illegal. I called them after I left, letting her know not to do this in the future. She starts arguing with me, saying the kitchen is too close. I said legally she cannot ask for paperwork when I have his collar on! She would barely let me talk and she said "health services told me". I asked her what did health services tell you? She got stuck and would not answer that simple question. Instead she said that she is not discussing this over the phone, that I HAD to come in... why would I come in when she kicked my dog and I out? Makes no sense. So I call her back, she blocked my number! So I used a friends phone, she kept ignoring all calls. Simply this worker is uneducated, rude and lazy! This is the first time someone has given me an issue with my dog being a service animal. So for all you animal lovers out there, she is ILLEGALLY denying any service animals to come in. read more

I have been coming to this Foster Freeze since I was a little girl. The same owners still own the place. The burgers are the best.

I'm a super fan of Foster's Freeze! I came by the other day to tame my sweet tooth. I was hesitant because of the extremely run-down exterior but the old-school feel of the place drew me in. The first visit, I ordered a worms and dirt twister. The sizes are so big! I didn't even finish the jr size. But it was delicious. The "dirt" was brownie crumbs mixed into the soft serve and the gummy worms were cut up into bite sized pieces so it was easier to eat. It was so yummy and tugged at my little heart strings, taking me back to my childhood. Today I ordered a jr. Root beer float and it was also soooo good! The soft serve here is just really special. I also tried the chili cheese dog which was the perfect size and so yummy. The fries were perfectly fried and fresh too. Overall, I love everything I've had here and I can't wait to try everything on their menu! :) read more
