I can walk from my apartment to Foster's Grille in about a minute so I really do want to like this place, but they keep disappointing. Tonight especially. I called at about 8:15 to see if it was too late to place a to go order. The first person to answer the phone replied "hang on" then yelled something to somebody else without covering the mouth piece. Then somebody else picked up the phone and put it down, then a third person who also told me to "hang on", then finally somebody took my order. I wasn't advised that the burger I ordered would be absolutely plain unless I requested otherwise so I was pretty disappointed to find a very dry garden-burger on a bun when I got home from picking up my order. When I walked in the door, I was surprised to find only a few patrons after the chaos I experienced on the phone. There were three employees just standing behind the counter. The two nearest the register were too involved in a conversation about one of their cars to bother with me for a while. When I finally did get some attention, I was greeted with the phrase "what's up?". The food here is generally decent, but tonight was an exception. It's extremely overpriced in any event. Step it up, Foster's. The locals are your bread and butter and I've heard nothing but complaints lately. You can do better. read more

My grilled chicken salad was very good, and my daughter ordered the hot dog. The only thing I did not appreciate was the manager telling the cook in front of the customers to use the old bread not the bread that was delivered "today". This included my daughter's hot dog bun. We were shopping at a store by Foster's Grille and decided to grab dinner while we were out. We weren't greeted when we walked in, but ascertained that we were supposed to fill out an order slip. My husband asked an employee if this was correct and mentioned it was our first time visiting. The employee then apologized for not acknowledging us sooner and explained the order process. We both ordered the Olde Fashioned 1/2 Pound Charburger meal. He got the onion rings, I got the fries. I also added a chocolate milkshake. I'm a sucker for a good shake. My shake came out before the meals. It looked--and tasted!--amazing. Our meals arrived in a timely fashion. After the first bite, my husband said, "It tastes like it came off our grill!" I took a bite and had to agree. We live in the DC-metro area and the burger joints around here, while good, tend to be fancy and a bit full of themselves. Foster's was just a tasty, chargrilled burger--and I mean that in the best possible way! The onion rings were proclaimed good. My husband got to my fries before I did and said that they, too, were good, but soft. Normally, this would annoy me, but I saw the bottle of malt vinegar on the table and thought: boardwalk fries! Who cares if the fries are crispy or not, since they just "wilt" when you add the vinegar, anyway. Yum! The portions were well-sized. We left full, but not overstuffed. And the sound level was fine. We were there with our five-month old baby, and the noise level wasn't too overwhelming for her at all. When we finished our meal, we were trying to decide if we should clear our table, but couldn't figure out where to toss our garbage. The guy who had taken our order was walking by our table and stopped to ask how we liked everything. (Nice touch!) I've been coming to Fosters for almost 5 years now, maybe longer. It use to be the go-to place for when I met up with friends or my family wanted something cheap but tasty on the weekend. Sadly though, the food quality has really plummeted through the years. The biggest change has to be the burger patties, which have changed from 'clearly hand molded' to 'I'm pretty sure this is from a patty pack from Costco'. I can't say for sure if that's the case but they're much less thick, juicy and meaty. Now they're flat, tasteless and just cheap. Fosters can't brag about their 'charburger' anymore either because I can't remember the last time my burger was actually charred. It's really disappointing. Their milkshakes are still good (then again though, it's hard to screw up a milkshake) and people seem to enjoy their fries. I'd give it 2 stars but the people who work there are the most friendly people you'll meet and (the majority of the time) do their job right. So, for that, I'm giving them one more star. read more

Went with a group of kids on a trip, ordered wings and chili and cheese fries. Well, the chicken was dry and hard. The fries were hard, tasted as if they was cooked in burnt oil, and the chili seemed like it was cheap and from a can. Worst meal I ever forced myself to eat and it was expensive for the quality $13 and some change. read more

Totally burnt burger - I ordered the char burger with cheese but did not expect it to be an overcooked piece of meat! The cheese was not melted at all. Also, ordered a soft drink for $2.25 and the cup that they gave me was the size of a McDonald's small. There are unlimited refills but really lets give a decent sized cup for the money! It seems that a few months back Fosters made a business decision to go with a different bun. What they chose is more of banana bread, with an awful smell and texture. I asked the manager why they changed the bread, and her explanation was that the older bun would crumble and this one is better. Truth is if the old one crumbled it was because it was served very often still frozen. Why were they frozen at all? Even frozen the original bun is much better than this yellow, smelly smaller bread. Fosters had a really good burger that my coworkers and I liked a lot. Not sure if I will go back there again. The fries are still awesome. read more

Great place to get a quick burger - informal and no pretense! Food is very good and servers friendly.

We moved to Manassas from PA in Sept. Since then we have been looking for new places to eat with our kids ages 10 and 11 who don't like to eat "new" things quite yet. We ate here for the first time on Dec. 26, 2009. At first it was a little intimidating, but we quickly figured out the system of filling out your own order(one sheet for each customer) and paying up front. While it was a bit chaotic because a large group came in, it ended up being a nice, quiet meal.This is like a quick order joint with table service. But as important as anything was the quality of food. My first bite of the typical 1/2 pound burger put me right back to hot summer days! This is summer on a bun at the end of December! The prices were a bit high, but we also ordered milkshakes.But you do get a drink and fries included with every sandwich, so I think it's reasonable. We won't eat here every time we want a burger, but I can see us revisiting for a basket of cheese fries and milkshakes to shake the winter doldrums. I look forward to walking around Old Town and grabbing a bite in the spring when we can sit outside. As first impressions go, I'll say I'm a fan because they don't advertise anything they don't offer. If you're out for burgers and fries and can't find a picnic, then stop in here. read more

I think Foster's Grill burgers are absolutely deeeeelicious! 5 Guys are just plain nasty. And since greasy burgers and fries are not my thing, I choose Foster's because you get a better tasting burger, that is juicy and just great any way you want it. I was pleased and look forward to going back again next month. read more

My wife and I had dinner here. We had a Philly Cheesesteak, a charburger, and buffalo wings. We have been to the Vienna and Centreville locations too. The Manassas location is nice because it is right by the train station and the trains run by on a regular basis. It can be a little annoying if you have to park on the other side of the tracks and wait for a train but they are short passenger trains, not the long cargo trains. I wish they had a couple more TV's placed in the seating areas. You can only go here to catch a game if you can find a place to sit in the bar area. I like the ordering system because it cuts down on ordering errors. For those who don't know, there are paper menu pads near the register. Grab a pad and a pencil and fill out one menu card per person. You check off the entrée, sides, sauces, and toppings that you want. I saw a couple of reviews that say the price is too high but I challenge anyone to go to a typical fast casual restaurant and get a sandwich, fries, and drink for less than $10. Foster's has a few craft beers on tap from mostly local or at least Virginia breweries. Everyday from 4-7 domestic brews are about $3 and premiums are $4 along with $.075 wings. We just missed the happy hour but I enjoyed my Devil's Backbone 8 point IPA anyway. I can't wait until it gets warmer and we can use their outside seating to enjoy happy hour. As we were waiting for our food and while eating we noticed how every person was greeted warmly by the cashier or manager as they walked through the door. Almost everyone that came in or left the place seemed like they have been coming there for a long time and talked to the servers or managers like they were friends. Do not be fooled by the small and cramped bar area, there are several other seating sections past the bar area making the place deceivingly larger. Our food was really good. The hot buffalo sauce is very tasty but the wings are not quite as plump as they could be. My burger had a nice smoky char on the outside but did not have a burnt flavor. I think they only cook well done. I prefer medium well to leave a little bit of juiciness. The burger was a little dry but the toppings were nice and fresh. The steak and cheese was a typical chopped steakum meat style sandwich. Nothing special but what most have come to expect for steak and cheese. We will definitely be back when we have the urge to have a sandwich and wings type of meal or to hang out for happy hour. read more

Not impressed. Went out of our way to find a great burger and came away disappointed. The actual burger patty was ok, but not worth the price. Awful buns that cracked and fell apart. Shredded lettuce falls out. Manager looking put out behind the counter. You can make a better burger at home and certainly buy a better bun at the grocery store. Love this place. Yummy food, nice servers, and the manager is very kind. Food comes out fairly quickly, even when they are busy.

The staff is always wonderful! I go here at least once a month and every time I am treated with respect and bountiful kindness, it's the best part of the place. The manager is super nice, and the waitresses are around my age so it's nice to see staff that perfectly understand the way I talk. I always order the chili cheese fries to go- they give you more that way and it's always delicious and quick. The option of getting yourself more silverware by the drink dispenser is a nice touch, so that you don't always have to wait and ask a server for more. They also keep lemon slices for certain drinks, too! I've never used them but if I get water or tea there I totally would. The drinks are always top quality too, and cheap. I've almost memorized the price I have to pay when I go there because they never change. You can also get a free cup if you ask for it, if you ever want to bring your own beverage and just have some ice in it. All in all, 5/5 Stars. One of my favorite places to go and hang out with friends and have good food. read more

The customer service is horrible. They seem to be some type of redneck ignorant. I recently moved here from D.C. for work and this place is right down the street from my home. I have been here twice. the first time was semi successful, meaning I got someone to help me, but was generally confused because it seemed like an inconveniance to serve me. I thought it was just because it was a busy saturday. Second visit was just tonight around 8pm. I generally will go running in old town for excersize and decided to stop and give them another try. I walk in and I am assuming it was the manager and another girl, playing in the front cashier area. He saw me walk in, but continued to play. After a couple of irritating minutes of the manager and girl playing and another girl cleaning the milkshake machine. I threw a shrug and said excuse me. The managers response was, "I was wondering how long it would take her to notice". That was enough for me and left, with no food! I went home and will not be returning. Ever. read more
