OMG how did I not know of this wonderous burger oasis before?? Its like taking burger king (but better) and mixing it with five guys (but better). You get to pick you own toppings and....well their buffalo wings are AMAZING! So I love city grille in Manassas as the buffalo wing best wings in town place...it pains me to say this but Fosters now holds the title of best buffalo wings in town. Not only do they have amazing burgers (that you get to dress) and amazing buffalo wings that you can order by the single (I usually get 6-10) they have ice cream! yea amazing I know...if you have for some reason, like me, either haven't been here or didn't know about this place please do yourself a favor and find your local Foster's. This particular one is on old town Manassas on the civil war walking tour right next to the train tracks. They have a little section outside for sitting and eating on those beautiful days. Per Foster's Grille menu online: "Always made fresh to order and just how you like it." As someone who had never before been here, I took that to mean that burgers were cooked to order, meaning, level of doneness. It turns out that this statement is entirely directed towards the toppings that go on the burger. For a well done burger, this place was okay. The burger was still somewhat juicy, due to the toppings which helped moisten both the bun and meat. The burger itself was generous in portion (1/2 pound), but lacked substantial flavor. For a "char" burger, it fell flat as it lacked the beefy, meaty depth achieved by other burgers. The most prominent flavors wound up being the ketchup and tomato. This place did live up to the promise of freshness. The lettuce and tomato were crisp, and everything was hot. The cheese on the burger was nicely melted. The fries were delicious. I ordered them with chili ($.99) and cheese ($.99), and they were perfect. The fries were crispy and salty, the cheese was reminiscent of nacho cheese and was runny and gooey. The chili was meaty and had beans, with a rich flavor. There was just enough juice to soak into the fries, but not so much that the fries became soggy. Foster's Grille does chili-cheese fries the right way. Based on the pricing, I'll stick with Five Guys for burgers. The burger was $9.25 (fries and small drink included). But add your favorite ("non-traditional") toppings to get it "just how you like it", and you wind up dropping extra money. Cheese, grilled onions, mushrooms, bacon and chili all add between $.25 and $.99 to your price. The only sandwiches that come with cheese are the Philly's. read more

Well I would have given the store 4 stars but after having to take back my daughter food because it was made wrong and in the same process mine is getting cold now. I even called ahead with the remake and am waiting 10 minutes for a chicken philly with only meat cheese and bun with fries. Fosters in Old Town Manassas is awesome! Delicious flame grilled burgers with real FLAVOR!!!! I usually have a Bacon Cheeseburger which comes with fries and a drink. Beware, if you order a yummy chocolate milkshake to accompany your meal, it could be delivered near the end of your meal. Don't get me wrong, THE SHAKE WAS WORTH THE WAIT, especially since it is prepared by hand. Staff is always super friendly. I love the location as others have said, in Old Town Manassas by the old railroad station. I love to watch the trains as they go by. Both the hot dogs and the hamburgers are great. They always overcook my fries, throw the lemon rind into my lemonade and get chili from the hot dogs all over my fries. So I have to tell them no lemon rind in the lemonade, hot dog in a separate basket and don't over cook the fries. Seems to be a constant turn-over on the staff so I guess they don't pay the staff enough. I like my burger cooked medium rare and they almost NEVER get it right. But the fries are good, not coated and awful like those at Burger King, not too thin and overcooked like the ones at McDonalds. Really nice fresh fries. I usually get ice cream for dessert but often it is soft, not soft serve but soft real ice cream. read more

Solid 3 star burger. I got the original char-burger with all the free toppings: tomatoes, ketchup, mustard, mayo, jalepenos, grilled onions, and relish. The burger was cooked even all the way through, a tad bit over done. The thickness of the patty was alright. I like them a bit thicker and more juicy. The circumference of the paddy was a good fit for the size of the bun. I got an even meaty taste in each bite. The presentation was neat and clean. The toppings were all well portioned and well layered underneath the patty. They held together nicely as I continued to eat. Downside here was is the bun. The outside color looked good. The buttery flavor was good at first but the lack of moisture on the mouthfeel was a disappointment. A freshly baked bun would work wonders for this burger. Also I'm not sure what the meaning of char burger is here. I didn't get much of a char grilled flavor on the exterior of the meat. The texture on the meat is negatively impacted by how tightly they shape the beef. A good Charred exterior will turn up in texture as well as flavor. To end on a positive note the grilled onions were nicely caramelized and I wanted much more of them. read more

Right in historic Manassas, this quaint little restaurant was a fun find. When you walk in it looks more like a bar than restaurant - long bar with stools and a row of hightops with seating for two. If you go all the way through the main room to the back, there are tables for larger parties. It was a sunny day though, so we chose to eat outside. When you walk in you go up to the counter and fill out a slip with your order showing what toppings on your burger, what sides, etc. You pay, then they give you empty cups to fill at the soda fountain. They also give you a table number to put at the table so they can find you when they bring out the order. It was a beautiful day to sit outside, and we even got to see a train or two pass by the train station directly next to the restaurant. The food was awesome - juicy hamburgers and really crunchy French fries. They were a little pricey ($10 each for a burger, fries and drink) but it was really good. We did a little walking around the historic district, but really there isn't much here but restaurants, lawyers, accountants and insurance agencies. Not a lot of cute shops like you would imagine there to be. But it was enjoyable and I would certainly come back. read more

After eating at the Foster's in Haymarket I was highly skeptical about eating at the Manassas location. Wow was I pleasantly surprised! The fries and onion rings were perfect and the burgers and shakes awesome! You would think one Fosters would be the same as the next but absolutely not true. Foster's Grille is now my favorite hamburger place. I have had a hard time finding a place where I love the hamburger, the french fries, and the milkshake. At Foster's Grille, all three are outstanding. The french fries are seasoned well. The hamburger has the nice charred texture I like and the milk shake tastes like it is made from flavorful ice cream and not something pretending to be ice cream. The meals are expensive, but I would rather pay more for a delicious meal than pay half the price for meal of junk. read more

If you're looking for a great burger place in manassas, this is it. They have a great staff, very helpful. The food is tasty. When they said charbroiled burgers, I was skeptical but they delivered. The manager just came by and asked me how I was doing. Very helpful. Also the fries are amazing. Highly recommend. The best burgers in town can be found at Foster's! Thick, juicy, and charbroiled, the burgers are always cooked to order and arrive hot and fresh. Many years ago, I saw Alton Brown show the best way to eat a burger on television...and I have to recommend his way to everyone. The only thing your burger truly needs to enhance its flavor the most is a bit of mayo, black pepper, and a few pickles. Trust me, he knew what he was talking about. Try your Foster's burger the Alton Brown way and get ready to really taste a great burger!! By the way, the fries are also some of the best I've had. I highly recommend this place! read more

UPDATE: I went back to Foster's because I got a BOGO 50% coupon in the mail. This time I had the Char-Burger and a strawberry milkshake. So, it wasn't the best burger I've ever had in my life, but it was good. I had some fear that it was going to be over-done since it was called "char," but thankfully, it wasn't. The milkshake was very thick, like can't-even-suck-it-through-the-straw thick (and yummy). I thought the burger portion was generous--bigger than Five Guys. The fries were too soft for my preference. I like the firm, crunchy McDonald's fries--but who can compete with that? I would go back--definitely if I had a coupon. It's just such a convenient location, right next to the train...and that grill smell is so darn inviting. read more

Our Old Town Manassas Favorite. Fosters has great family atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. Service is prompt and the fries are the best in Manassas. Burgers are good and the grilled chicken sandwich is awesome. Since Foster's is positioned directly across from the Manassas Junction, there is nothing better than sitting outside to watch the trains pass by while you enjoy a burger, hot wings, and ice cold draft beer. The location of this fosters is great I can meet my husband there for dinner after he gets off the train. The food is good, but often times the service is a bit of let down as I suspect they must have a high employee turn over. On two separate visits they've gotten our order wrong. I have to say though that they were prompt about correcting any errors, and it wouldn't stop me from eating there again. read more

This was my first time at Fosters and it wasn't bad. You order similar to five guys and go find a seat. I ordered a burger with fries and a drink and it was alright. The burger itself was pretty charred (almost burnt) but nothing a little ketchup can't fix. I was with a party of 3 and we ended up sitting at a bigger table due to lack of seating. Right when we got our food, we were asked by the manager to move from our table because there was a party of 15 waiting to sit. We were offered free milkshakes which we enjoyed but this place was filled with kids. Definitely a hot spot for middle and high schoolers. I can't say that I'll be rushing back comparing this place to my other favorite burger joints but it's worth a visit. read more

the only reason foster's is still in business is because of its location in old town manassas. it's right next to the outdoor ice rink, which made it a convenient place to eat after a fun night of skating. the decorations at foster's are great. the restaurant has a rustic feel, and there were colorful christmas lights all over, which i'm a big fan of. the problems began with the food (or rather the lack thereof for the duration of our half-hour wait.) if it were a fancy restaurant, of course this wait time would be warranted. but the menu choices included frozen chicken strips and flavorless wings. by the time i got my vanilla milkshake, everyone was done eating. in the context of talking about things to give up for lent, a waiter said to me, "i hate your religion." of course it was in jest, but i didn't really find that okay. one thing unique to foster's is the way they take orders. the customer circles his choices on a paper menu, then hands it to a cashier. i think this is a clever and fun way to potentially cut down on confusion. as long as you go to foster's knowing it's for the fun of being out and not with the expectation of good food, it's fine. read more

The boneless chicken wings were dry and made my hubs feel a little queasy later. My cheesesteak was really dry and boring- actually, the MEAT was dry and bland, but the roll was greasy. Right next to the Manassas train station, this burger joint served up a really good cheesburger and fries ( and soda) for $10. I liked that the restaurant didn't really look like a restaurant, but a bar. It has one long bar in the main part of the restaurant and a few different rooms in the back with tables. Has a good selection of craft beers on tap. I ate at a table outside since I had my dog. read more

Was not particular impressed with this location. I was not greeted or welcomed when I approached the counter. The guy just took my order. Seemed a bit dirty inside. The soda fountain machine was watery in several if the drinks. When we told them they didn't do anything they just said OK. I had a fried chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich was very dry and not very tasty. The fries were ok, but they could have been crispier and have more seasoning. read more

Came here for a quick snack before heading on the train. The environment is bar-like. As my family and I were waiting for the food, we saw one of the employees pick garbage up from the floor, throw it away, then grab a food basket to deliver to a customer. The manager on duty also emptied a basket in the trash can and put it on the bar table. When I asked to cancel our order (15 min wait already which is long for just a burger and fries), he asked why and I told him and he didn't even apologize until we went through the process of refunding. He didn't realize that he and his staff are unsanitary. I recommend going to CJ Finz instead! read more

This was my first time to any Foster's Grille and I wouldn't go back but not just for the usual reasons. The staff was nice and came by frequently to clear stuff off the table and were generally pleasant. My wife had the charburger and it was fine (she had been before), I had the Philly Cheesesteak and it was fine, pretty generic, and my son had the hot dog which actually looked the best of the bunch. We also got fries to share and they just didn't seem fresh--they came to the table feeling tepid at best but tasted okay. The place itself is decorated in a fun way but the floors were so sticky--I can't remember being anywhere since dingy college bars and frat houses where my shoes stuck as much as they did here. My biggest complaint however was that while this felt like a place that would cater to families, the men's room doesn't have a baby changing station/table (the ladies room does, however) and that alone is enough to make me not return. read more
