All my coworkers seem to be obsessed with this place and always want to eat here. But the few times I've been with them, I'm always left feeling...well, meh. I've experienced better. To be fair, I don't eat meat, so I've never sampled the burgers. But my two-star rating is based on several encounters with the (poor) service here, which is really quite important to me in a dining experience. Foster's is a burger joint, and not much more, so they pay very little attention to non-burger menu items. The first time I went with friends, I was excited to see a veggie burger on the menu! How thoughtful. But when I stepped up to the counter and happily asked for the veggie burger, the girl at the register snorted, "We don't have those any more." Really? Maybe you should remove it from the menu then. Her dismissive "you're so annoying" attitude really put me off. Service could definitely use some polishing. I ended up ordering a salad which was boring and uninspired. Kind of like McDonald's, only even McDonald's has gotten with the program and is serving more interesting ones. Service is consistently slow here. You order and then find a seat to wait for them to bring the food out. I usually find we're waiting quite awhile, tho. And then the food's brought out little by little, so everyone's eating at all different times. That always frustrates me at a restaurant -- timing is everything in a kitchen, from a Michelin-rated dining room to a lowly burger joint. Not really a fan of this place. read more

Fosters "extra thick" milkshakes used to be consistent. But recently the last 3-4 times I've bought milkshakes, they have ALL been really runny. For almost $6, I have paid for soup. Really disappointed and not sure if I want to come back. read more

How can you not love Foster's Grille? If you've never been here, you simply have to check them out. (Other locations are in Marshall and Haymarket.) Foster's has burgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken sandwiches, wings, salads, and other staples of quick American food but they are known for their burgers and fries. As a patron of this restaurant since it's opening, I was very disappointed with my most recent visit. I placed an online order with the app and paid online as well at 6:30 PM. The email I received said my order would be ready at 6:52 PM. I showed up at the restaurant at 6:55 PM. My order hadn't even been started. I was told to wait in the parking lot and my order would be brought out. I received my order at 7:25 PM. When I got home I found the "special" chicken sandwich I had ordered was missing cheese, lettuce and tomato. I don't think I'll be ordering take out from this restaurant again. I know the pandemic has caused problems for restaurants, but this is not how to keep customers. read more

Lived in warrenton this time more than 2 years..1st Visit here. Nice people, looks clean.. not impressed with the food.. steak and cheese was ok bun was not toasted so it was very soggy and fell apart.. my husband ordered the fish and chips basket and was VERY disappointed to get 3 snack size nuggets of fish(kids meal size) for 9.99... he left there still HUNGRY! A friend and I stopped here on the way through Virginia on Thursday afternoon for lunch. It is a cute place with lots of decor. You order up front using a paper list that you give to the staff and they bring your food to you. There was lots of seating inside but we chose to sit outside as it was a nice day. I had an excellent veggie burger that was perfectly crisp on the outside and succulent on the inside, and my friend had the bbq hotdog which he enjoyed. He thought the fries were good but I thought they were so-so. A little bit pricier than I was expecting (~$6 for a veggie burger with no fries/drink) and that is probably because it is next to a hotel. Food service could be slightly quicker but everything was clearly made to order, so no biggie. Good place to stop on your way through town. read more

We used to go here for lunch semi-often & they're usually pretty busy. The burgers are pretty good & so are the fries, but it is very greasy. The food comes out in an ok amount of time, but don't go expecting super fast service. I typically get the kid's menu (lite fare as they call it) because it's smaller portions of the food. The burger was good, so let me get that out of the way up front. The ordering experience, the wait, and the general cleanliness of the place left something to be desired. The on-site manager saw that my food took way too long, so he comp'ed me a free meal in the future. My family ate at foster's the other evening and we won't be going back until changes are made. I ordered a burger and side salad. There was a rotten spot on one of the tomato slices in the salad and some of the lettuce was slimy. The Burger was OK, just not great. My husband seemed please with his sandwich and my kids at their hot dogs. The biggest complaint of all was the state of the restaurant- it was filthy. The women's room vanity light was out, floors and toilets were dirty, and the trashcan overflowing. My youngest needed to use the bathroom and I almost took her over to Burger King next door to use theirs. By the time our food was ready, I had lost my appetite because I started noticing all the dirt and unclean surfaces. There were also several uncovered trashcans in the restaurant that were full and had flies. It was my husbands birthday and we were also there to support our kid's soccer team- these are the only reasons we stayed and finished the meal. The quality of food and atmosphere left anything to be desired, and definitely wasn't worth $40. read more

Okay, my last review was not really in favor of Foster's....but I gave them another chance and have subsequently been back numerous times. I have totally changed my opinion! Tried their burgers again and they've been great, I must have just had a bad one for the first review. The food here is great.. the service is horrendous. I'd gladly give a full 5 starts for the food, but unfortunately the very poor customer service takes away all those stars. The fries are hand cut and amazing. They even have malt vinegar on the tables for the fries and it's oh so yummy. I really enjoy the garden burger.. it's better fried than grilled, somehow it gets tough and chewy on the outer edges if grilled. The kitchen staff always appear to be working hard and cleanly. Sadly the counter/wait/manager staff are snippy and borderline rude. They always seem to have their attention elsewhere, and do not like to be asked questions. Ideally you'd go in knowing exactly what you want to order and ideally that would not include a milkshake. Ordering a milkshake is too much work for the counter staff (they are the ones making it) and you'll feel like you just asked them to scrub the floors with a deck brush on their hands and knees. It's almost impossible to get someone to answer the phone for a call in order. The Foster's in Marshall does not have these customer service issues at all. The restaurant and restrooms are always clean and there is plenty of parking space! read more

This restaurant has seen better days. Upon waking in, the smell of the old propane heating system is overwhelming. It appears very dirty and unsanitary. The soda machines were filthy and sticky and the floors were greasy. We came with a group of family members. On a positivw note, they did get everyone's orders correct. I had a grilled chicken salad and it appeared fresh and was tasty. However, we couldn't shake the feeling that this place needs a good scrubbing followed by a total remodel. read more

Lunch service is very slow and it wasn't that crowded. A hot dog and bowl of chili cost= over $10 which is expensive for this type of place.. 45 minutes later and I still hadn't received my order. Kind of greasy spoon type burger joint. Very confused kitchen, guy up front has to constantly fix screwed up orders and they DO serve people at the same table at widely varied times. We ended up asking for our money back and going somewhere else because our hot dog still hadn't made it to the grill. People beside us were just as PO'd. Do not recommend this place because I didn't even get to taste the food. read more

Stopped by this evening and had the daily special - a chiliburger and fries. The fries were great as usual, and the sandwich was good. (Chili was nothing special, as someone else pointed out, but it went well with the burger.) I have probably been here 8-10 times over the past year, and I got the impression tonight that they were trying a little harder to please. The place seemed cleaner and in better repair than in the past, the burgers were cooked just right - not overcooked as they too often were previously. The wait staff was also more attentive and friendly, walking around asking customers if they needed anything else. Oh, and they have hard cider on tap now. The burgers were good, but the service was less than friendly. We ordered take out and the girl on the phone seemed upset that I didn't initially tell her what I wanted on the burgers. When I picked up the burgers, I asked which one was medium and which one was well-done because there was no indication on the containers. They had to ask the cooks and I don't think they knew either. We have eaten here twice in the time that we have lived in this area and have been disappointed twice. We waited a while before going here again after the first time but I think we are done trying to give this place a chance. Both times we ordered food for carry out. With two small kids under 3 it's difficult to dine in. Both times we had specifically asked that there be no onions placed on my husbands sandwich. Both times he has had to pick through the sandwich and get them off. We should have learned the first time to check the order before we left but giving them the benefit of the doubt that they would READ "no grilled onions" on the order placed on line. To me there is no excuse I can understand not hearing something but when it's written in front of you, come on. Hopefully there isn't anyone that is allergic to something that they skip reading when an order is placed, heaven help you. Will not be eating there again. read more

Eek! Me thinks not!.The service was lousy! Guy in collared shirt (Im assuming was the manager) seemed completely bored and clueless as to what he was supposed to be doing with the orders. After saying 2 words to me while I casually tried to make conversation with him as he rang up my order, he mumbled away on his cellphone without providing me with my cups. I grabbed the cups myself and took a seat. After about 20 minutes my food arrived, or at least what was supposed to be my food. I received a raw grilled chicken (I had ordered fried) cold fries (I had ordered onion rings) and no small salad. I stood at the counter for a solid 5 minutes with my food in hand, I received no service. I left my food on the counter and walked over to burger king. I dont recommend Foster's Grill to anyone, its a waste of too much money! read more

Char burger was charred way past edible. Chili was disgusting, tasted canned and like it had been sitting all day. The fries were ok without the chili and the only part of the meal we found palatable wax the boneless wings. Bathrooms were clean. Can't see ourselves returning. read more

Went here with family today around 3-4pm, and was excited to start because we used to have a fosters in Culpeper. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomato and mayo with fries. Sandwich came out with a butt load of onions on it, so I took it back because onions suck. They were apologetic and brought my sandwich back to my table with no onions. It was the same sandwich and I know this because it tasted like onions. Sandwich was cold, fries were cold, my father-in-law ordered a shake and had to ask 3 times before he actually got it and it was pretty much ice cream in a cup. Also ordered down boneless wings for my wife and I, and they were cold and chewy. Won't be back hopefully ever. read more

Several times lately, our order has been botched. Tonight was the absolute worst. I submitted three to-go tickets, which the hostess consolidated into one. The result was that I didn't get the fries I ordered. I get home, find out I didn't get my fries, called them and went back out into the pouring rain to get my fries. When I get there, the guy says, "Sir, we didn't have you down for any fries." Well, yeah, because the girl botched it, genius. So he sends me out of there with an order of fries that must have spent all of ten seconds in the fryer. They were so awful, he may as well have said "screw you, pal, you ain't gettin' no fries,and don't come back! read more

Over the years they have gotten worse. What was once the best burger place is now no better than a fast food burger. The buns used to be taste with sesame seeds. No more great buns. The burger was overcooked and dry. The sweet tea I had to wait on, as I do many times I go. Why are the cups so small? Tea should be served in a larger cup. read more

I got the chance to eat here on Superbowl Sunday by going to a family birthday party for my Mom and step-dad's 16 year old grandson. The place was fairly crowded but there was plenty of staff (I counted 4 running around in the front and 4 from what I saw in the back). I was thrown off by the archaic system of placing your order on a pad and then waiting in line until you could give them the sheet of paper. I don't know if they are purposely trying to keep it old school but they should seriously think about investing in a touch screen and some software that takes your order. So, after waiting in line, I finally was able to give my order to an employee. I ordered a Philly cheese-steak but wasn't expecting too much since I had plenty of Philly cheese steaks in Philadelphia itself. While waiting at the table, everyone else received their food at different times, which made it awkward for the people not eating yet. Once the food came I was starving so anything probably would have been good at the time. I didn't have any complaints, it was good, but like i said I've had the real deal when it comes to cheese-steaks. I did go back up, fill another order sheet out and ordered a strawberry milkshake. I didn't expect it to be so thick, which I had to eat most of it with a spoon. It was great, but didn't seem like a milkshake. I think they didn't blend it long enough because they didn't want me to wait for very long. All in all, I would probably go back to try a burger but if I would see the place looking busy I'd opt to go somewhere else. read more

i always order the same thing when i come here (traditional wing basket) and it has always been around $12.. today i was charged $16 and some change, when i asked why it was so much more expensive, the manager essentially tried to confuse me. i was told i ordered my wings, fries, and drink separately. which is a lot more expensive then the meal (what i asked for) would be.. wont come to this location again read more

I'm not going to give a one star rating because I've enjoyed fosters in previous visits, however, in this particular visit, I was very displeased. My girlfriend and I ordered 25 wings on Monday night around 7:30 to enjoy during the national championship college football game. We arrived at fosters to pay for and pick up our order, and there was a problem with their card acceptance system, so we were unable to pay for our order. The manager on duty tried to swipe both of our cards, and both were failing. After 10 minutes of trying to fix the problem herself, she called a district manager named brad, and mentioned the idea of letting us withdraw cash from their ATM and Foster's paying the ATM fee. Instead of trying to help the customer, brad kept her on the phone for another 5 minutes trying to figure out and solve the problem with the system. We attempted to get cash from the ATM before being interrupted by the manager with another idea that may have worked for the system to accept one of our cards, and once again, the attempt failed. We finally decided to cancel our order and leave, after 15-20 minutes of waiting in fosters. Not to mention the fact that the wings had been done since before we had arrived and were sitting there in front of us becoming cold while we tried to pay for our order. To me, this is all unacceptable. I am a monthly fosters customer and am very strongly considering never stepping foot in the place again. read more
