Decent local joint, no frills and friendly service. There aren't too many options during the week in the area if you've done a few wineries in the area.

Blue Mountain Grill is a new-ish restaurant in Marshall, VA. It occupies the space formerly filled by an Italian joint called: "Joe's Pizza." When I visited - the old Joe's Pizza sign was still up out front - and a "Blue Mountain Grill" sign was affixed to the sign supports. Inside - it look as if they kept much of the old decor and layout - I never visited Joe's Pizza - but the inside of the Blue Mountain Grill is not new. The menu is a combination of sandwiches, salads, seafood dishes, and a few odds and ends. I ordered a bowl of the Clam Chowder and the Crabcake sandwich with fries. My server asked if I wanted the chowder first - to which I replied in the affirmative. I was initially sitting at the bar - but when the chowder came out - given the way the bar is constructed - you can't get close to your bowl - due to the trim on the edge of the bar. I ended up moving to a table to eat. The chowder was solid. But I felt like it needed to be a bit on the creamier side. Flavor-wise - it tasted fine. The crab cake sandwich was solid - it came with a remoulade sauce, lettuce, red onions, and tomato. The fries were cooked perfectly - hot and crispy. It was rather warm and stuffy inside - so not sure what was going on there. While it was nice outside - the inside needed some air conditioning. There is quite a bit of seating here - between the bar, the inside dining area, as well as some seating outside out back. Service was decent for the most part. I did have to go and find my server when I was ready to leave - as she was engaged in rolling utensils into napkins and doing other server stuff. I inquired as to whether they accept Apple Pay for payment - they currently do not. Had to pay the old analog way with a physical credit card. #BlueMountainGrill

The food was really great here and the portions my boyfriend and I received were pretty big. I got the salmon salad, which was amazing; refreshing, flavors were balanced, really happy overall. The service was also great. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The overall vibe of the place was what we were looking for as well. Somewhere quiet, and easy to scarf down your food after a long hike.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Totally recommend.

I came in the evening was met immediately with kind people. The servers were very attentive and friendly. The food was great I've had salads and sandwiches and desert as well. I enjoy the brownie sundae and the steak and cheese. Over all great restaurant in town.

I don't feel like this amount of food was worth $16. I made my own french fries plenty of times and I'm pretty sure that's not even entire $1 potato worth of fries. It taste fine, but nothing taste too great when you feel ripped off. I really like their pasta dish with seafood, but even that is fairly overpriced. This isn't a field and main style food and you're definitely not getting an amount that feels worth it. We've gotten take out quite a few times. I'm here, but unfortunately, I think this time will be our last. The portions are getting smaller and smaller.

We just tried Blue Mountain Grill for the first time. Delish! I got the salmon salad. Salmon was done perfectly, salad was crisp, fresh, and lightly dressed. Hubs got fish and chips. Fries were crispy and hot, as was the fish. Lovely to have a spot like this in Marshall!!

From the moment we sat down, I was handed a personalized menu noting my birthday -- and truly, details matter. We started with a few apps, delicious cocktails, and of course, their wine program is out of this world, really showcasing the beauty of Virginia wine. You can't go wrong here. The smash burger was a hit, and I especially loved the asparagus and gazpacho. It felt like a little adventure around the farm, with a serious slam dunk on comfort food. Best part: they didn't flinch when I mentioned my allergies. They went out of their way to curate dishes for me, even off-menu, which I appreciated so much. Anytime you're in wine country or just desperate to escape the concrete jungle for a meal this is your place.

Can I always do this?? The two of us had our own little air conditioned quiet chamber just for us! Our waiter a star: accommodating, informative, funny. I had a glass of their house tannat while my girlfriend went for a mango cocktail which she really enjoyed. To start, we had gazpacho (really a serving for one), the tomato peach burrata (creamy to the point of heavenly), and a mixed green salad (as it sounds). She took cauliflower shawarma as her main in a close call over the apparently awesome trout, but she really enjoyed it. I had the grilled pork chop and was completely knocked out by it. Cooked sous vide to start and then finished in pan, it was loaded with flavor especially with the various sauces and chutneys garnishing. We then had a bit of late harvest wine and decaf espresso for dessert. This was a superlative experience in every way and we will gladly keep making this drive!

We had to drop off some items in the area and wanted to get dinner before heading back, so we looked over the menu and reviews. The staff made great recommendations, checked on us frequently without being intrusive, and made sure we were enjoying our first experience there. Even the other customers were super friendly and told us they had been coming back for years for the great food and service. We both loved our meals. The breading on my fish was really crispy (a recommendation from the server), and the hush puppies were delicious. The portions were very generous, and I really enjoyed my leftovers the next day! We've had plenty of bad experiences with Chinese buffet seafood making us feel sick--pretty sure I'm not the only one--but that has never happened here. The food is always freshly steamed and served hot when you order. I'm not a big fan of overly salty, heavy American-style seasoning, so I really appreciate that they can prepare it without all that. Also, my daughter doesn't eat much seafood, but they're flexible and let us order something simple like a mozzarella stick for her, which is a huge plus. Yes, there's an 18% gratuity for parties of 5 or more, but it feels fair for the quality and service. We came to check this place out for lunch, and we ordered: +the Jones Beach sandwich - described as a vegetarian option, this sandwich had eggplant, provolone, roasted tomatoes, red peppers, pesto, and a red pepper-feta spread; the bread used were extremely stale and was not the focaccia bread as it was then stated on their menu; at first, we thought it was toasted, but it was not; also, the sandwich was missing ingredients, such as the roasted tomatoes (but the menu seemed to be updated since then) + the cheesesteak cigars - came with a horseradish dipping sauce; these were not heated all the way through and came out lukewarm/cold +a pizza with half mushrooms and half cheese - we love stinky and strong cheeses, but this had a very unpleasant odor to it that we were unable to eat it We did ask for a to-go box, which took some time to receive; the staff didn't seem to care nor interested in how everything was; when we were leaving, no one was available at the front.
