When my 90 year old dad passed away, I knew I had to get the old 130 reels of film converted. I looked all over...Legacy Box, etc. It was very expensive and also I needed some control over this as some were damaged. So I visited FOTOBY. He did such a good job in an extremely timely manner. He was supportive and also a local business in SP. It was also a fraction of the cost of some of the other vendors. It was done in house so I felt more comfortable leaving them with a perfect stranger, who is now not a stranger! He did them so quickly we had them for the Celebration of Life. I work with photos myself and this was beyond exceptional. IF YOU HAVE OLD REELS, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GET THEM CONVERTED TO AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. I went to Fotoby based on the good reviews on Yelp, and was happy to be patronizing a local business. However, I am outraged with the service I received there. I submitted four rolls of 35mm film. Of the four, two were standard, one was black/white, and one was expired. I knew that the expired film would turn out distorted photos, and I emphasized that I still wanted the film developed. When I returned to pick up my film, the man said that he had not been able to develop any photos from the black/white or expired rolls. Yet he still charged me $4.99 each for those rolls, bringing my total to $36, including the two standard rolls he had been able to develop. Essentially I paid $18 per set of prints I actually received, which is nothing short of a scam. Not only had he botched the job, but he CHARGED me for his own mistakes, and did not apologize. Looking closer at the negatives he provided, I saw indeed that the black/white roll had been ruined - the negatives were blank, and I am confident it was due to a processing error, not a problem with the original film. However, I saw that the expired roll's negatives were NOT blank! The images were there and he had simply refused to print them, yet still charged me. I took the negatives to Costco where they were able to easily print from the negatives and charged me $4.00. I ended up receiving a beautiful set of photos, with some color distortion. I wanted the distortion - it's why I was working with expired film in the first place. Basically I just can't believe the gall of the people at Fotoby who would provide poor service while also charging MORE for it. Anyone knows that if you can't print the photos, you don't charge. Not only did they charge, but they COULD have printed the expired roll, and simply didn't. The proof was in the negatives. I wish I could say better things about Fotoby, because photo developers are few and far between. But I will not be bringing my business to them again. read more

This photography store is a MUST! I will come here for ALL of my photography needs from now on! I was looking for a place to get 35 mm film developed and printed. Before stopping at this store, I went to Rite Aid where I would usually get my filmed developed. This process ranges from $12 - $17 and takes 2 - 3 weeks. However, Rite Aid claimed they no longer processed film. I found this local shop and decided to see what it was about. As soon as I walked in, I was intrigued by the owners desire to attend to me, he was very interested in what kind of film I was shooting, what I was shooting, what camera I had. We talked about his business and the conversation went on. He was very easy to talk to and definitely knew what he was doing! My 35 mm color film was processed for $5.99 and I had the option to view the prints I wanted before he printed them! I chose my prints for .39 cents each. The total process took no longer than 30 minutes and cost about $11.00. I also received a small gift for being a first time buyer. If you have any photography needs you MUST stop at this shop! He is rude, a very bad communicator and charged me for a transfer of an LP to a CD and he completely ruined it by cutting off the first 3 nores of each track. A waste of $17. Totally a scam and unprofessional. a big shame considering that San Pedro has no other transfer business. I don't mind paying for good work and a nice service. But he is so obnoxious and nasty.
