But this morning a bird flew in the cafe (mind you, it wasn't bothering anybody), and the manager killed the bird in front of everybody, and it just made me and a lot of people feel very uneasy knowing that someone can kill an innocent animal without thinking twice. Their coffee is pretty good- I got an iced vanilla oat milk latte. Finding this place via GPS was a bit tricky - it's in a shopping center, but instead of going straight to the big parking lot, turn left to pass by the Potbelly's and then turn right to make it to the back. It took me a minute to find the location because it is on the receiving end of the building behind DSW shoes. I have mixed feelings about this coffee shop. To start off with, it's kind of in an odd location--on the back side of a strip mall where dumpsters and delivery trucks normally are. The parking situation is a little tough, due to the location. The store front is very cute and the interior has an industrial type vibe. There is plenty of seating, and it seemed like there were loads of people working or studying, so it is definitely a good place for that. For the actual coffee... it was just okay. I purchased a decaf mocha and the espresso was VERY bitter, which almost made the drink undrinkable. I also ordered the bacon and egg puff, which I was very excited for, however, they apparently do not warm up food there which severely detracted from the snack overall. I'm not sure if we were there on an off day, or maybe the coffee machines need to be cleaned. I think if the coffee was less harsh and the snacks were warmed instead of room temperature, I would have had a much better experience overall, but as it is, I will likely not return. read more

It's in a bit difficult to park since it's behind the main shopping strip mall, but they provide parking area right in front of the cafe. They prepare drinks quickly and efficiently. And as a bonus, they hand deliver the drink to you wherever you are seated. Ordered: Green tea latte with almond milk (+0.50). About $5.35 including tax. The Swiss rolls looked delicious but didn't order (maybe for next time). The drink was a tad sweet but it might be because of the added sugar in the latte mix or the almond milk. Did not order coffee but they appear to grind everything in house (there is a large coffee grinder(?) machine in the back of the store. There are a couple of separate bathrooms and are well cleaned. My boyfriend and I heard a new coffee shop opened up in Fairfax and had to check it out. I got an egg tart and a vanilla latte which was amazing! Guess I don't need to go to dim sum to get an egg tart anymore haha. My boyfriend got a cranberry scone and a pour over which was also very good! Probably the best scone I've tasted. We both really liked the Ethiopia pour over as well and they also give you ice on the side incase you wanted it iced which I thought was very sweet. In terms of atmosphere it was really homey and modern which I love. I saw a few people studying and also saw many seat options. There's an upper floor with bar seating styles and the main floor has tables and benches. The shop is hidden in the back of the plaza so don't be worried if the maps take you to the back haha. I was in town and was teaching a workshop at Woodson HS across the street and noticed that Foundation Coffee was within walking distance of the school. I decided to give it a try and they did not disappoint. The inside was super spacious with some great touches. If I lived in town, I could see myself drinking coffee and spending hours working here. The display case was full of delicious pastries that looked like they were made in house (I could be wrong but), many of which called out to me. I visited the shop each of the four days I was here, sometimes twice a day. One day during lunch I decided to get a breve latte and an egg tart. The latte was smooth with a tinge of bitterness, which I didn't mind. The egg tart was flaky with the filling that was a little dense but still tasty. The next morning I got an egg and ham pastry for breakfast along with a latte. The egg and ham pastry was also delicious. During my final afternoon there, I got a latte and the milk bun. The milk bun was soft and pillowy and the filling was just the perfect sweetness - it wasn't overly sweet like they can be. I ended up spending a few hours there before my friends picked me up with my luggage. If I end up coming back here, i will definitely visit this coffee place again. read more

I was very excited to try this place while in the area. The space is very nice with lots of seating and high ceilings. They do sell some small snacks but as a roster, their focus is on coffee. I had my usual latte and it was very good. The milk was well textured and the barista had a nice poor with some good latte art. The result was a very smooth drink which btw, is served in a bright yellow mug, which is unique. Overall, a nice place to do some work or study. This coffee shop is absolutely wonderful! The coffees and teas are outstanding! The service is exceptional! The pastries and other food items are excellent! I especially recommend the crumb cake! We come from New Jersey, right outside New York City and I thought they imported it, because it taste just like Home, but I was assured they make it on location. It is so good. As are the croissants, both the regular and the chocolate. My only complaint is, as senior citizens in our 80s, it's often hard to get a seat. They have tables and they have bleachers. But the bleachers are hard for seniors to negotiate. A few times we left because we couldn't get a table to sit at. One suggestion I would make is to add another row of tables or a counter in the front of the shop. And another idea would be to refigure their employee break room. It's a very large room and I've never seen it used. Maybe they could make a smaller break room and add another table or so for customers. It was completely full when I arrived with my friend. Looks like mostly students from GMU. Luckily there was a table for 2 and we grabbed some chairs from another table. Most everyone was on their phone or laptop and it was DEATHLY silent so I felt awkward talking with my friend like I was disturbing someone at the library. My friend had her son with her, but we were the only group with a toddler so I can't say it's normal to see kids there. I was confused when I got there so: order at the register, find a table if your can and wait to pick up on the opposite side of the register if they call you or give you a buzzer. When you're done clean up by dropping off your things over there too. Theres no signage saying they will clean behind you and since the staff didn't tell me where to pick up or if they'd bring the coffee to your table just thought I'd put it here. I ordered an americano and almond scone. They were out of the scone and told me later while I was sitting down. She asked me what other scone I wanted so I ordered a plain scone which was good.
