I really enjoyed all the beautiful mixed china they used as it added to the ambiance and presentation. The food came out within reasonable time and was warm. I got an omelet and the greens (spinach, peppers and onions) were fresh and not over cooked. I was disappointed with the drinks. The menu looked so promising and when the drinks arrived they were BEAUTIFUL, however, the flavor was lacking. I ordered the Tiffany Mimosa, stunning but it tasted just like Prosecco was poured into the glass. My friend got the Electric Iced Tea and it too was a beautiful blue color, however, just tasted like a watered down Long Island Iced Tea. I also got a biscuit as a side that was quite good! I would have liked to have a better jam option other than Smucker's jelly, but overall a great biscuit. There was a minor mix-up with my group's brunch reservation, but the staff were extremely accommodating and successfully made an effort to get us seated within a reasonable time. What a lovely place! The ambiance is just so warm and inviting. Like you're going to a fancy friends house for a fancy brunch but with none of the stuffiness. The menu was creative but still had some classic brunch staples. We started with the Monte Cristo waffle which was delicious although the waffle was not as crisp as I would've liked it, it still had good flavor and stood up to the meat and cheese on it. My Bestie got the avocado toast which is decided by the chef daily - it ended up being a crab and caper avocado "toast" on an everything bagel. She LOVED it! I'm not a seafood person so I just got the eggs Benedict and we also got the breakfast potatoes. The potatoes were my favorite kind! Not too big and nice and crispy- more home fries style and so good! The only surprise to me was that the eggs weren't really poached on the Benedict and much of the yolk was actually cooked through so not runny. Other than that it was on the crispiest English muffin I've ever had and they are generous with the Canadian bacon as well. The set up for our BSB brunch was BEAUTIFUL. Kelly, the manager and her team did an amazing job! The food was delicious. I had shrimp and grits. It was really good! Plenty of juicy shrimp, I think they could have added more grits, (maybe I'm just greedy). I tasted my friend's chicken and it as seasoned perfectly. She thought it was too spicy for her taste. The service was great and very attentive and the drinks on point!! I will definitely go back with my hubby. He liked the chicken I brought home. read more

First time checking out Founders Restaurant today! I've passed by the Shaffner Inn hundreds of times getting off the Cherry Street exit, and I'm so glad they decided to open this restaurant! Convenient parking lot, but beware if you're coming from I40 West, you'll have to go down and circle back up the block. The Inn has such a lovely ambiance - modern high tea vibes with hearty dishes! I was surprised it wasn't more busy. Lovely views of the city from the many windows, great natural light. The table was set with cute little vintage teacups. Our waitress offered us coffee and we all obliged. These cups were fairly small and I wondered if it was like a complimentary cup (just basic black coffee with coffeemates creamer) since we were never offered refills, but it wasn't complimentary. I think they were definitely short staffed today and they did apologize. They were also offering only the breakfast menu since the chef was sick, which was a bummer but I'm glad they did what they were comfortable with and didn't bite off more than they could chew. We all ordered cocktails and went ahead and put in our food orders when asked, and they said they'd make sure our cocktails came out first. Unfortunately they came out with our food, but not the end of the world. The manager (I assume) did come over and check on us twice and apologize for delays/menu switch, which was nice. I wasn't the biggest fan of the cocktail.. I ordered the Tiffany Mimosa and it was great presentation, but a little overpriced in my opinion. Very sweet, not a huge portion for $10. On to the food! The standout here was the shrimp and grits! Ummmm wow. The creamiest grits with succulent shrimp, plentiful andouille sausage (a must for me) and green onions. Fun presentation with roasted tomatoes and rosemary, and the soft little bread pieces that came with it were excellent! Great portion size, checks all the boxes. My next favorite (we did a lot of sharing) was the Texas Pete Honey Chicken & Waffles. Again, lovely presentation with fresh fruit and vintage plates. Lots of saucy chicken, with just enough heat. The waffle could've been a little softer but the syrup I added and the flavor from the chicken made up for it. In last place (we all agreed) was the monte Cristo open faced waffle. I love a monte Cristo and we had planned to order the actual sandwich, but it was on the brunch menu and they were not serving that. The waffle was again just a little bit too done for my liking. The waffle was nicely presented with a "roll" of turkey and cheese, plus a raspberry drizzle and some fresh garnishes. The flavors were good, but where the syrup softened the other waffle, this one was just a little too done and missed the mark a bit. It wasn't bad, but the softer waffle plus more topping would've been better! We also tried the French toast with bacon and pecan compote and it was incredible!! I will definitely be back and I feel sure Founders will get a 5th star from me! read more

Today was an amazing day. Stephanie was the manager today and she worked miracles for me!!! I was with a large group and everyone had their patience today. Used to drive by this B&B and didn't realize they had opened for Breakfast and Lunch. Stopped in on a Saturday morning and was seated on the porch. The waitress was a little clueless not knowing the answers to several questions we had about the food / restaurant. I'll give her a break as she was new. She tried and that goes a long way. Food was great. Spoke with the Manager and she said she opened the place about a year ago and she's still getting things rampped up. This is a really nice location. Set just on the edge of the main downtown area. The parking is right so be aware before you get there. If you can park across the street at the hotel. The service was pretty quick for how busy they were. I am not a big breakfast person but the food is delicious so all in all this is a must try in Winston-Salem. read more

Horrible customer service. They do not accommodate ALL guest. My family and I (party of 9) were visiting from out of town and wanted to try this restaurant because the food looked amazing only to be turned away from what the manager said "short staffing". Several empty tables were available but they couldn't accommodate us because of several other parties they had coming in, yet a reservation is not required. We tried several ways to be accommodated but the answer each time was no. We asked so we can't eat here and the answer again was "No".... Never in my life have I been humiliated. Most restaurants will put you on a wait list or make accommodations to fit you but we were blatantly rejected. To the owner-- you may want to rethink who you have managing your establishment. She's very rude and unapologetic or maybe she was trained this way-- God only knows, smh!!! read more

This is probably one of the nicest places I have ever eaten in! I am visiting from Florida for a couple days with a friend looking for a house to rent for the following month, and not knowing this was a B&B and needed to be a resident with a breakfast card, walked in here for a quick breakfast. After speaking with the staff about only being here until tomorrow, they took it up on themselves to let us enjoy the experience of being here and provided us breakfast, in which the food was the best I've ever had for breakfast. They have been the nicest people I have met and made us feel very welcomed and like we were local residents! After speaking with Lou about the area, housing , schools for my nephews, the churches, and seeing just how amazing of a person he and the staff are, it definitely influenced our decision to moving here most definitely! Been trying to schedule a time for brunch here and after several voicemails without a call back I finally got someone on the phone. When I showed up, no one was at the hostess station so I walked around until I finally found someone waiting on a table. There was 1 table of guest & 1 server in the building. Once seated, we ordered a carafe of mimosas. We were told the alcohol cabinet was locked and they would try and get someone with a key and it would be 20 minutes. So we waited. Finally someone shows up, clearly straight out of bed and explained there was no Prosecco for the mimosas. With a heavy concentrated drink menu of mimosas, how does this happen? So we order a bottle of rose. Out of that too. Ok, Never mind. Food comes out, which was fine. I say fine, because it was just that. Edible, good, but nothing special. The server was very polite, but hardly came back to the table (again, only a total of 2 tables there) I had to go ask for things several times. Food was very cold when it came out and there weren't that many people there. I wasn't impressed with the quality of food, especially for paying that much money. The mimosas with glitter were cute and good but that was the only thing that was good. I went with a girlfriend of mine and both of our food was cold and not good. The actual place is nice and could be a lot more than what it is. Additionally, the manager went to every table and spoke to the customers but our table. We were very disappointed in this. We understand we are in our mid 20's and didn't fit in with the other clientele and maybe aren't the target audience.
