Just a terrible experience from this place I spoke over the phone with a lady and she said I could come in at 12 since I was just looking for a diagnostic since my parking sensors on my bmw weren't working and I would be getting a notification every time I would put my car in reverse but upon my arrival their was no one at the front desk to help me so I waited there for a while until a got up and went into the shop to ask for help.They told me they were going to check it out and see what the problem was.I got a call 2 hours later that they didn't find anything wrong with my car and that the notification wasn't popping up anymore I was surprised but they told me if I wanted further inspection they would need to remove my bumper for $250 but their was not guaranteed that the issue was there and I would still be charged the labor so I said no and went to pick up my car and keep in mind I was using uber to go back and fourth from my house to the shop.When I got there I went to the garage and the guy appointed me to my car that the keys were inside so I went to my car turned it on and tested it by putting it in reverse and to my surprise the notification was still popping up which made me furious I was gonna ask them again but I just didn't wanna deal with them anymore so I just left and will never be returning to this place again don't come here if you wanna waste your time and money also felt like I was being ignored the whole time I was there read more

I've taken my BMW 545i to a mechanic only twice in 8 years as I usually do my own work, including the coolant transfer pipe. I needed valve cover and timing chain gaskets and wanted to take it to someone who had done it many times - it's a gruesome job. I found Four B on Yelp specifically looking for reviews of 545i service. Dave knows BMWs well and does the tough jobs at a reasonable price. He was thoughtful enough to replace a few needed parts without charge, I was impressed. I don't do many reviews but thought I could help other BMW N62 owners. Dropped in with brake and tracking trouble. They turned the rotors, repacked bearings, replaced pads, and took a number of test drives to diagnose the issue. Didn't recommend ton's of additional work. Gave good "watch for" advice. And even checked (and adjusted) tire pressure because the ride "shouldn't be that hard". Found out the tire place had over-inflated the tires. Plus - I could work there on their wireless while I waited. So convenient. While waiting for the car to be done, I heard a number of folks talking with Dave and was impressed with his frank assessment with each situation: "I don't recommend that car [apparently checking out a used car for a customer] but I'll keep my eye out for something. I get a lot of folks in that are selling their cars." "You don't need anything else done right now but we'll keep an eye on it..." "I don't have time right now but if you bring it in this afternoon I can take a look." I'm impressed. read more

I really appreciate having a mechanic who is willing to level with me about the state of my car, what things are likely to cost, and how pressing various problems are. While I've been blessed with a few good mechanics in the various areas I've lived so far, I have definitely come across the not-so-good ones that assume that I don't care or just don't have the mental capacity to grok what they're saying--not so with David! He was willing to sit down and explain to me what the problems were and what error code the service engine light was giving, as well as willing to tell me a few cheap things to try before bothering to dump a larger chunk of money on the problem(s). He also wasn't afraid to tell me that my car might not be worth dumping the money on for one of the problems he found (which wasn't an urgent or safety problem, just a small but persistent oil leak that I've been dealing with by checking the oil levels every so often). That's the kind of honesty and care I wish I could get everywhere! If anyone ever asks me for a good mechanic, I will be pointing them to Four B for sure :) Although I will probably also tell them to make sure to make an appointment, too--it sounds like he's been getting pretty busy of late. Four B worked with me to repair accident damage to my 2000 E39 M5. As an older car that's been very well cared for, I was worried that there would be problems with paint matching or finish consistency, but David, Jose, and everyone else at Four B really impressed me with the quality and professionalism of their work. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them for collision repair or mechanical work. I can't give 4.5 stars, but would - minus a half star for some very minor paint work imperfections - a couple of nibs in the bumper paint. That being said, the fade-in and body repair is almost undetectable, and on a 20-year-old car, that's high praise. read more

I usually work on my own vehicles because I do not really trust mechanics and I have the space, know how, and tools (for the most part) to do so. Brought the car with an engine problem, they couldn't find the problem and after spending $1,500 I took the car back with the problem. If you read the reviews, they are notorious for over charging over and over without a precise solution. I had the chance to meet the mechanicals and they don't have the experience clearly, I'd say they need to work under an experiment mechanical as interns to gain experience before jumping to your car and try to help. I came here to take care of my wife's Jetta, 02 1.8T. It basically has two problems: 1) It doesn't detect the door is open, which ended up to no sound when you open the door with the light on. 2) There is an intermittent electric noise from the dash board when you drive long distance, and there is a burning smell when we turn on the A/C. Here is the suggestion from David Just replace the valve cover gasket so the it won't cause any burning smell any more. Burning smell is not from the motor but from the burning oil.($180). Regarding the electric noise, just leave it until we can hear it all the time. The motor is just for the air flow for the interior, not for the engine. And the door, you can replace the locking system($300), but it doesn't need to. It's just a cosmetic thing. (I like it. :) The Bottom line, just replace the valve cover gasket and convince my wife to make sure for her to turn off the light when she get off the car. :) Today cost, $0, with 30min diagnostic. I have a 2005 Toyota Corolla and have been going to David for all my car services right from oil change to 90/120/150k service to fixing check engine light, etc., for 5-6 years now. I can tell with at most confidence that your car will be in the right hands. David is very straight forward and does not charge you unnecessarily. The quality of work is phenomenal and the parts that they replace is of highest quality too. The only downside is, they are usually busy almost all the time. So it's better you book an appointment ahead in order to avoid the wait time. I'd keep coming back to David and FourB for all my future services without doubt. Keep up the good work David! read more

This is hands down one of the best mechanics in the south bay area. I am not sure about the north bay because I don't live up there, but in the south bay this is definitely one of the best shops, if not the best. They are extremely honest. There is no line markup on parts first of all and there hourly is completely reasonable. I needed a part after someone broke into my car and they got the part, astonishingly within a matter of hours and completed the job the same day for bottom dollar. This is the second time they have impressed me. I have a late model BMW that I am considering letting them overhaul if they are interested in doing it. I haven't talked with them about this yet but I am definitely considering it now. Very honest high quality work. read more

Took my 2008 Lexus IS250 for a brake fluid change. Asked for DOT 3. Got a call an hour later that it's done. I asked which fluid they put. He says we put exactly what the car specifies. I asked again, and said to please confirn exactly what they put. He comes back after asking his tech and tells me they put DOT 4. I said that's not what the car specified and that's not what I wanted. He says DOT3 and DOT4 are same. Really? You shouldn't be in the business if you think two different specs are the same. I said I don't agree and he says he'll put DOT3 now. I mean firstly you'll now mix DOT3 and DOT4 because you'll bleed not flush the DOT 4 out. Secondly, i have no way to confirm what the hell they putting in it. And moreover, when i got the car back, the steering wheel leather was dirty and sticky. Like grease on it or something. This was my first time here based on Yelp reviews, but I have no trust in them and I am definetly not coming back. Stay away if you love your car. read more

I once very happy with Four B, but thing seems changed now. I've come to them for a oil change, and I asked for in cabin filter change and tire rotation for my car. And they called me 4 hours later and told me my drive belt need to be replaced(only 50k). Well, I trusted them and let they replace the drive belt for $100(which I found is not cheap afterward). And when I finally come by, they said my car doesn't have in cabin air filter, so they didn't replace it. Then I checked the bill found they still charge for it. I asked them, Vu replied they changed engine air filter instead. WTF? Who asked to change engine air filter? And I really doubt if they changed it or not - or why it would cost the same as in cabin filter? And I want to take a look at "cracked" belt. Well, it does show some age with small cracker on it, so I paid anyway and left. But afterward I check the belt on the internet, I realize it's really normal for drive belt to have some crackers, but only the showing of deep ones means belt need to be replaced. They only show me the belt with small crackers and told me that's the reason I need to replace it. I don't know if they're intended to do so or just don't want to explain to me in detail. I was a customer at Four B for a couple of oil changes this year. I came in with my car, waited for the oil change and was out in 30 minutes. No fuss and no problem until one day, the engine light came up 2 months after the oil change. So my first instinct was, call Four B and see if they can help. Unfortunately, as soon as the guy who answered the phone heard "oil change here, engine light on", he immediately got real defensive and claimed it's not his fault. I wasn't accusing him, I simply wanted him to take a look at my car. Even so, he was not able to inspect my car right away and asked me to make an appointment in 2 days. So instead, I called "Precise Auto Care" and brought my car over there for a free inspection in 30 minutes. Now I'm a Precise customer and Four B no more! The bottom line is, I'd like my car care place to care about providing a good service. Anyone can offer oil changes, what matters is whether the car center can help me when I'm in need. Thank you, Yelpers, for helping me find Four B Auto Service! After a year of living in CA, I didn't really have a reliable place to bring my car for repairs. As a woman, I feel like I get taken advantage of at the dealer, and I wanted to find a place I can trust. I chose Four B Auto Service due to the excellent Yelp reviews, and I am thrilled that I did. I called a couple mornings ago, and Dave was very straightforward in his assessment of the service my car needed (new transmission -- Yike$!), and he quoted a price that was reasonable for the service. He also said that if I brought it in a couple days ago, they would find a local replacement part and it could be finished overnight. WOW. That's amazing for a job that would normally take 3-4 days to complete. I brought in my car, we talked it over, and another mechanic drove me to work several miles away. Dave said it would be done by 3:00 PM on New Year's Eve day, and sure enough, my phone rang at 2:55 PM, and it was Dave calling to tell me the car was ready for pick-up. He let me test-drive the car before paying, and insisted on showing me the old transmission. When I was satisfied, I paid the bill, which came in under the quote. Now, what auto mechanic do you know that will not only tell you the truth about what service you need, drive you to work, deliver the car at the exact time promised, and charge you less than you thought it would cost? That's why I'll return to Dave and his shop should I ever need to in the future. True Story: When the mechanic drove me to work, I asked him where the name "Four B" came from. My car had been making a weird whistling noise every time I drove on the highway over 70 mph. I noticed that during my last couple L.A. trips and at first thought it was the tires or due to a wheel bearing problem. So when I was due for another L.A. trip, I took my car to this place to get the problem checked out and in the process, an oil change. I was told an oil change would be $20 over the phone. That to me was super cheap because my current guy charges me $50 for premium oil, even though I don't need it (I drive a Honda). But when my oil change was done, they charged me $25. Okay, still not bad but I'm a struggling lawyer with mounds of loans to pay. So I just mentioned in passing to the lady that I was quoted $20 over the phone and she was nice enough to let me off the hook for $20. Awesome. As if that wasn't enough, when they checked out the problem, David (the main guy) told me the problem seemed to be a front brake problem and quoted me about $180. I wasn't sure whether that was a reasonable price so I called a place I used to frequent and trust in L.A. They quoted me $240. I was shocked by the price difference and immediately scheduled an appointment to get it done. While I was on the phone, I was also approached by one of their customers who told me on her way out about how she has been coming here for years. I knew about the many 5-star Yelp reviews but to have someone tell me in person how honest David and his crew are made me even more comfortable with coming here. After the brake change, I went off to L.A. and returned to SF safely. And I didn't notice any weird noises with my car at all. read more

This Shop did a few things for me at a reasonable price, like change my power steering belts, replace ball joints, and a few other things. The pricing is fair and worked seemed solid.... However the last time I got my LCA bushings replaced, I was driving it home and immediately my CHECK ENGINE light went on. After doing a little research on this shop with other Yelp users, I found out I was not alone. And they are not very helpful in solving a problem right after a vehicle has left the shop. ....LOng story short: the CEL was caused by a few things including a valve gate malfunctioning on my turbo. My boyfriend's office mate recommended this place when VW quoted me $2000 in parts and labor for what was basically my 160k miles service. I called the night before and asked if I could bring my car in, telling him I needed a timing belt and a few other fixes. He told me to bring my car in the next morning ASAP because the timing belt is a 7 hour job. I brought my car in the next day and David was extremely knowledgeable about my car (2003 VW Jetta 1.8T), and even remembered the friend who recommended him and what he did to HIS cars. I was impressed as he must have loads of customers. At the end of the day, just like he said, my car was ready. I came to pick it up, and instead of a $2000 bill, I was handed a $900 bill. So impressed with this! He was so professional and nice, and even gave me the name of one of his friends who could fix one of my bent wheels from an earlier issue. Good Honest Service! My actual bill was much lower than what they had quoted me over the phone. On top of that, I told them I thought I heard my brakes squeaking and that I may need a brake change. They told me my brakes were fine. Any other auto motive service place would have ripped me off and changed my breaks because I told them I thought there was a problem. I took my cut my husband's car here today to get a synthetic oil change and tire rotation. Not only did I find that they had very decent prices, but they were also fast and efficient. I definitely will be coming here again but my advice to you is book an appointment! I made an appointment over the phone yesterday so then that way I could secure my time today. David really knows what hes talking about. Me and my BF both own BMWs and within 1 month of each other, we both had car trouble! Well, I went straight to a BMW dealership to get my oil changed and they let me know I had two major changes that needed to be done- in a whopping amoutn of $2000! So we decided to check yelp reviews to find a local body shop and we stumbled upon Four B Auto Service! I called and let him know exactly what was wrong with my car, he said it was a common 5-series issue, set up an appointment and a GREAT price. I waited inside the bodyshop building doing some work (they offer free wi-fi) and it was to take about 2 hours. It ended up taking a bit longer but David was really kind and even offered to grab me lunch or drop me off if I had somewhere else to go. I refused politely and decided to have a friend pick me up in the meanwhile, and when I got back the car was fixed! He also gave me a discount because of the slight delay and over-all, I was definitely HAPPY! Also, my boyfriend came here a month later and received exceptional service as well. OUT-freaking-STANDING service. I had a bent control arm (eek!), needed an oil change, and was in need of a replacement tail light and halo bulb. Holy moly! I needed to find a place that would help me out and not rip me off... thanks to Yelp, I found Four B Auto Service... SCORE!!! Whereas the dealership's estimate gave me a near heart attack, and a few other shops' estimates made me say... "Really?!...", David's response made me go "WAHOO!" He even recommended that I fore go the oil change seeing as how I still had a way's to go before I really required one (OK with me!). And, when I politely asked for maybe some sort of first-time customer discount, he threw in the tail light bulb replacement for free. Not sure how much this really would have cost me, but according to the dealership (which is not saying much), it was $95. I dropped my car off in the morning, and they were kind enough to drive me to Peet's nearby so I could do some work, and even picked me up when my car was ready. The lady who drove me was super nice and friendly! So, David gave me a quote of $280 for: - repairing the bent control arm - alignment - replacing tail light bulb - fixing halo bulb (which turned out just needed re-wiring) OK/ Are you ready for this?? ...I ended up only paying $270 for all of this PLUS an oil change (mostly because he forgot we decided not to do this service, but since he had already done it... he waived the fee completely!!! Other places would've charged me for sure. Also, since my car is a BMW, the oil change would've cost $70-80.) DAVID. IS. AWESOME. They've been in the area for nearly 10 years, and it's very apparent that they are great at what they do. Service is GREAT. Prices are very reasonable and probably a lot lower than anywhere else. Ever since Nguyen's Auto became Greenstar Auto Works on Laurelwood, I've been looking for a new auto shop to go to.Greenstar does good work, but they definitely overcharge for their services. I drive by this place all the time and I said to myself, why not check out yelp and see what they say. 5 star rating?!? I had to see for myself. I called to get my clutch replaced in my accord. Got quoted half of what I wouldve paid for elsewhere. Brought it in at 9 am, when the shop opened, had it out by 2 pm. Great job fellas! He also made a few recommendations which I agreed with and gave him the okay to order the parts! Awesome prices and great work! My one piece of advice though. Call ahead and schedule an appointment. It can get pretty busy there. He's got a sign in his lobby that says he may not be able to take walk ins. And before you complain, thats always a good thing. Means he gets a lot of customers! Oh, and in case you were wondering. $550 for the clutch. Other shops were asking $800-$1000. read more
