I normally don't like leaving negative reviews, but my experience with David's Automotive was disappointing. I stopped by the shop in person after multiple phone calls went unanswered to ask about replacing the timing chain on my 2014 Audi S6. David told me he was booked until July 14-16 and asked me to wait until then, which I was happy to do. After waiting over a week, I reached out by text for an update and got no response. I followed up again two days later, and he finally replied saying the shop was too busy to take on a big job. If that was the case, I wish he had been upfront from the beginning instead of having me wait with no communication. I understand shops get busy, and I don't expect immediate availability. What I do expect is honest communication and respect for a customer's time. A simple message letting me know he couldn't fit me in would have allowed me to find another shop much sooner. Based on my experience, the communication and professionalism were lacking. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this shop read more

This review is a long time coming (I don't really use Yelp). I came to David through a recommendation to get an engine swap done. Long story short, I blew my old motor running a ridiculous amount of boost. I had a lot of specific requests for the new motor swap, and David was able to get it done. He's really good at what he does and super knowledgeable about custom work. Since my swap, I've come to him for all my car needs. I usually work on my own car, so finding a mechanic I trust is incredibly important to me. I live in Los Angeles for school and ended up burning my clutch in stop-and-go traffic. Instead of finding a shop in LA to work on the car, I recently brought it to David in San Jose. I had him change my clutch for an aftermarket Clutchmasters kit. I bought a used F30 after a PPI down in southern California and shipped it straight to David's. He gave me a very fair quote for a timing chain guide job that the shop in socal couldn't match. After bringing it to him, he updated me with pictures and gave me details on all the additional issues he found. Upon further inspection, he found that the flywheel was installed incorrectly and that wouldn't allow his timing tool to fit. He wasn't shady about anything, was completely honest, and upfront about all costs. At the end of the day, it sucks that the job was more expensive than I thought, but I really appreciated that he was genuine and proved everything with pictures. Now the car is running better than before and I can be confident that it'll keep going for a long time. This is one of the few BMW shops that I recommend that have the perfect combination of price and level of service. (As for the other shop and used car dealer I bought the car from... not so much.) read more

If you have european cars having issues and you want a mechanic who is honest, super skillful and reasonable as far as service charge concerns: David is the one that i go to and highly recommended. I had a Porsche Cayman GTSS 2019 with only about 7k mileage on. Two months ago i got PADM disabled light on. I checked it on youtube and all suggested that PADM replacement would cost a fortune. I got a couple quotes from others including Steven Creek Porsche ranging from 5k to 7k! i almost went for it but decided to bring it to David for final quote. Initially i did not bring it to David because i thought that his expertise is solely on BMW but my instinct urged me to bring it to David and i am glad i did. David did a scan thru and checked the code. Then based on the fact that i rarely drove It, oftenly battery got drained out, very low mileage and he showed me a lot of software parameters missing.... David thought that PADM was fine and the software reload was all it needs! Why the software was messed up and needs reload? 4 hours later , he called me the car was ready to pick up! and together with recommended oil change cost me only $400.00! so far my Porsche Cayman GTS runs great and has no issues after all! Had i brought it to other Porsche dealership or mechanic i would have paid thousands more and it is not even the right fix! Thanks David! read more

I have come here for oil changes, tune ups, as well as major repairs. He and his team have many years of experience so they have always been able to fix my car in a timely manner and I've never had to go back to claim a warranty.
