Over hyped. Nevertheless, the service was outstanding. While there were many Gluten-free options, all dishes and dressings contain shallots. So if you have an onion-sensitive there are few options. Vegetables and steaks were very over seasoned masking the flavor. Although the chef made accommodations on some of the side dishes to prepare without shallots, everything tasted the same--peppery and salty. Prices were comparable with other quality steakhouses. Certainly do not expect exceptional ambience. The setting is nice, but not worth the drive. The tables were very, very close together making it awkward for servers, but possible to enjoy your neighbor's conversations. Chairs were straight-backed with poor cushions for those looking for comfort look elsewhere. read more

My husband and I were there last night to celebrate our son & his wife's 20th anniversary. We have gone there for this occasion 3 times and they have gone multiple times. Last night was the worst food I have been served in quite some time. The so called 'ribeye' steak was pathetic and way over salted (I love salt so this had to be extreme for me). There is no way that was a ribeye. No fat/marbling, about 1/4 inch thin and pathetic. I asked to see if I could get a Caesar salad instead of the house salad that came with the 'special' and was told I could have Caesar dressing. It tasted like there was pickle juice and some other something unidentifiable. I took 2 bites and let it sit. Horrible! I waited for the waitress to ask if there was a problem, but she never came. Later, a girl asked if I was done and took the plate away without asking why I never ate it. I was starving by this time. The mashed potatoes looked and tasted like they had been reheated over and over again. The green beans were crisp and good, thank you. I will say, this was so unexpected for this place. We have always had a wonderful time and great food and service. I would have said more at the time, but didn't want to be a negative force on such an occasion. This establishment doesn't even give you a scoop of ice cream when it a special occasion like an anniversary. It isn't because their prices are so cheap that they can't afford it. Come on folks. Have a little more class. I feel like someone is owed at least a steak dinner as it is. read more

Four Winds is our go-to steak house and rivals most of the high end steak houses we've been to anywhere, including New York and Las Vegas. The steak is consistently as good or better than those costing several times the price, and we've never had a bad meal here. The staff is friendly and on top of things adding to the experience. There is no turnover in staff so you will see the same faces all the time, including the owner/chef who is always in the kitchen. The environment is rustic and high end, but definitely not arrogant as they welcome casually-dressed diners. Many choose this place for a special event, so of course many will be dressed up, but it is not a requirement. They do have an upstairs as well as a private room and can accommodate a large group or party. Sides are a la carte and served family style, so try the carrots, and grilled onions and mushrooms; both are superb. It does get busy, so reservations for fri/sat and holidays are recommended sometimes a few weeks out. If I were to pick a favorite restaurant in the U.S., Four Winds is it. Not for the variety of food, but for the consistently excellent steaks and experience. read more

Fine dinning not at its best. I so wanted to like Four Winds. My husband and I, had been looking forward to celebrating our 12 year anniversary for a month. The restaurant is beautiful, just as everyone says it is. We were seated right away, however, it took 10 minutes before our waiter came to our table. We were given water, bread and butter, the young man spilled the water all over my husband's menu and the tablecloth, he brought back a dish towel, which he handed to my husband to clean the table, he never came back for the towel. We finally ordered our food, I asked the waiter for a straw, which I never received. Other waitstaff was hanging out in the bar, talking to the hostess, and the bartender, one waitress was complaining about her tips, but not one of them had time to bring me a straw. Our food was delicious, but I had to flag down another waitress to bring silverware, so that I could eat, when I told her, "thank you." She did not respond, but walked away. Finally, we ordered, bread pudding, it was very good, but was served so hot, that it burned the roof of my mouth. I'm sorry Four Winds, I wanted so badly to love you, the food was superb,but you service was subpar. read more

Would I go back NO. Here's why. I'm normally one that leaves rave reviews and gives places second and third chances before giving up and never going back! But we made reservations at Four Winds Steakhouse in Wills Point, Texas on Tuesday and I told the hostess that we were celebrating my dad's 89th birthday, so if they could wish him a happy birthday when he arrived. Nothing was said! While waiting to order a huge Roach comes running across the table, I quickly whisk it off the table without making a scene, afterwards I excused myself from the table and just let the hostess know what had just happened! Service was slow and the waiter "Shawn" was literally a smart aleck that could care less if we were there or not!! In turn, I called management on Saturday (today) letting him know about the fiasco from the night before. To my surprise, the hostess did tell management about the roach, but it did not matter enough for the management to come to our table and apologize. To top it off the food was mediocre and cool from the very beginning. Overall it was just a bad experience that left quite an impression. read more

2/21/2019 THIS PLACE HAS GONE DOWNHILL! We made reservations over 4 weeks prior, but when we arrived we were told by the very rude hostess, Mary, that it was a "first come first served" situation. So why make reservations if they are not honored? We were told we could wait for a table or be seated in a side dining room. We were seated in the side dining room and I had to wear my coat the entire time as the window leaked air. The food was marginal and the waitress ok. The location is beautiful, the steak quality, and wine list decent but we had TWO HAIRS in our food. Took my family for a birthday and ordered escargot and shrimp cocktail for appetizers and when they arrived there was a long, curly dark HAIR along side of the shrimp cocktail that matched the waitress hair (it was hanging down, not up and we were a table of bald or blondes). The waitress was unapologetic at best and asked "What do you want to do?!" in a very defensive manner. We then had our main course of filet, bone in rib eye and fried shrimp, all were great and cooked to our specifications. Finally we had desert of cheesecakes and creme brulee, one of our cheese cakes had ANOTHER HAIR in it. Again, there was a very "meh" attitude regarding the hair on the plates. I had been before without any hair incidents a few years ago so I don't know if it was just the night or management or kitchen or whatever but for what we spent (over $200) I would prefer HAIRLESS dishes. Disappointing at best, will go to a more HAIR FREE steakhouse in the future. Word to management: please have your wait staff and kitchen team keep their hair tied up when working. read more

My company comes down here for training every now and then and one of my coworkers told us we had to check this place out and that they had the best steak he's ever had. Let me tell you, this place does not disappoint. A little hard to find at night if you're not familiar with the area, but once you find it, you will not be disappointed. The filet mignon is absolutely delicious, the sides are equally as good and the service is excellent. I fully recommend checking this place out if you want the best steak in your life. We have dined here on two occasions and it was excellent each time. We have had the Filet, Porterhouse, and the NY Strip. All were cooked perfectly. The appetizers and sides were also cooked and seasoned to perfection. The Bread Pudding is amazing. It was the same quality compared to the Bread Pudding we have had in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It is a commute out to Wills Point but it is worth the drive for a special occasion or a nice evening out. read more

We live very close(about 10 miles) from the Four Winds and try to go there at least every other month. It is so nice to have such a fantastic steak place that you don't have to drive all the way to Dallas and fight the traffic and crowds. I always get the filet and it has always been superb. My husband gets a lot of different things and he has never had a bad meal, either. The sides are always so delicious and the service is awesome. It's a bit pricey but worth it. The only complaint is that it is a bit loud sometimes. Make sure to make reservations early or you might not get in. read more

Well....not real impressed. Expensive and not amazing. You order your steak/fish/chicken....does not come with sides or salad....(unless you order shrimp or catfish...then you get 6...yes exactly 6 fries). So my son ordered catfish...got 6 fries, I ordered shrimp with 6 fries and my daughter ordered steak which has no sides so had to order sides which come family style....(carrots and a side of potatoes)....which ends up being way too much food and yep...more expensive. Salad was blah....Took forever to get a waitress altho we did get bread and water when we arrived. Service is slow (surprisingly even tho they have a million people working there). Another reviewer said the presentation was lacking...yep, no presentation, although they make a huge deal of "wrapping your food for you to go). Waitress was nice altho a little over the top. Probably won't be the first place I think of to go for a nice meal again. Don't go there without a reservation. You are treated like a second class citizen and the service you get is not great. We showed up Friday night after seeing their billboard on I-20 in Terrell, TX not knowing reservations were the norm. Even though the restaurant was not busy at all, we were seated in the very top area away from the rest of the eating crowd, no one was up there, you can't even see down into the restaurant, it's like a hidden getaway nook with about 8 tables, and our waiter took forever to remember to come back to us for service. It took 45 mins for our dinner, in which I ordered the nightly special, (by the way, they only have 4 cuts of steak, and not the great ones either), our steaks were so over seasoned with pepper that we had to scrape it off. Four Winds is an elegant, adult, upscale, yet rustic looking steakhouse in a beautiful country setting. Leave your kids at home with a sitter, please. This is not a place to bring kids. That is not just my opinion, it is a fact, no kids menus means "please do not bring your kids". It would be like taking your kids into a romantic lounge. It ruins the atmosphere for all the other customers. Love my kids, but this is not a place for them. Sorry, that is one of my pet peeves that some people have a hard time saying outloud. I just did it, so on to the food and service and all. There are no better steaks or seafood dishes anywhere. The place is quaint, fancy and romantic. A date night or anniversary kind of place, even though we try to make it an every week thing. This is rustic/fancy, think of a tiny Pappas Bros in a cabin on a ranch as reference. The tables are fancy with white tablecloths and close together. It is fairly quiet with no loud music, just adults enjoying great food and great drinks. Most of the customers are very well dressed and middle aged. Not a party atmosphere AT ALL, yet friendly, personal and elegant. Every table is attended to by 2-3 servers and wait staff. You will never want for anything. Dress is casual elegant or business casual. Try the Grilled Goat Cheese, yum! Have a Dirty Martini, the best ever! Gosh I would like to recommend a server, but they are all so good. Make reservations, always or you won't get in, it's very small. Try to get a window table and watch the wildlife come out into the pastures out back by the lake. read more

THIS RESTAURANT HAS THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. This truly pains me to write such a terrible review for an establishment with such a great steak... But I will... I will start out by saying one star is far to many. The problem lies in the staff and begins with the manager. Our group from Athens has dubbed her "Elvira" the "manager" because of her jet black mane and treacherous personality. I will get to the point quickly. My group was eating upstairs it was roughly 10 PM on New Year's Eve we waited for our food it came and my steak was burned. I only eat my steak med. rare. They staff asked how my steak was cook and i told them it came out well done! Nothing happened. Then the manager "Elvira" came up and asked how was everything and we told her my steak was burned. expecting a new steak. She said that would be fine but it was going to take 45 min. by that time we would be missing our New Year's Eve festivities. I asked for a refund and she declined. by this point our table of nearly thirty was worked up to a frenzy by this comment. everyone has agreed to not pay a tip by this point. When the checks came there were no receipts you normally get instead, someone hand written an amount on a torn piece of paper (WHAT!! REALLY!!) this was for everyone. So as normal I use my trusty AMEX. This card has got me out of a jam at Four Winds before! Yes this is not the first time this manager "Elvira" has caused a problem with a group I have been with before. So we leave and swear never to return. If one of the "owners" as elvira like to refer to them ever reads this please leave me a message i would be happy to explain both instances in great detail and give name and number to witnesses. Was ok. First off they called the wrong number to confirm my reservations and ruined the surprise for my mom. Get there wait in the bar till the table was ready. Bar tenders looked super annoyed and got an attitude when we mentioned the drink we ordered didnt really taste like it had alcohol in it. Food was alright not the best ive ever eaten. Why am i spending 40 bucks on a steak to get flat coke poured put of a plastic bottle? As much revenue that place has youd think they would have put in a soda machine by now this place is 14 or 15 yrs old cant tell me it cant be done. I get the steak i ordered was super thick but i had to send it back twice still had white fat going through it. And still wasnt done how i wanted it. It was bearable for my liking but could have been in the pan 5 more min. My cousin ordered the chicken and the wing part of it was still bleeding. Service over all was good ill give him that but the food and drinks are def lacking in places. Standards are dropping no where near they were a few years ago. read more

We had reservations, they seated us 15 minutes late (which wasnt that big of a deal, but worth the mention), took the waiter at least 10 minutes to come to the table. Needless to say, things didnt get better from there. Our waiter was terrible. Four Winds charges for everything. The steak, side dishes, side salads, even soda refills (2.00 each refill). I ordered a Ribeye med rare, and cream spinach. The steak was tough, and had so much salt and pepper on the steak that it was almost uneatable, the cream spinach wasnt anything better than something I could have gotten at boston market. Needless to say, I will not be back, and Im confused how so many people enjoy this place. I guess its because its in the middle of no where and those people have no other choice. Had an amazing birthday celebration for my husband's 50th, with family! Everyone enjoyed escargot appetizer, great filets from 5oz special with green beans and whipped potatoes to 10 oz with asparagus, filled everyone up. But you can't leave without dessert, one of the best cream brûlée I have tasted, but a taste of the sorbet trio was the taste that sold me! Prices are ala cart and no dress code but a nice place to dress up. Service was excellent, they take great pride in serving everyone. Reservations are a must. One of our favorites, great steak, shrimp and goat cheese pesto. The 3 stars due to our past 2 visits; we always make reservations 2 weeks in advance for 4 people. While there are clearly available tables in the main dining area, we are taken to the noisy, cramped, hot back dining area. If you have a loud table of obnoxious wine drinkers next to you (as we did) it's almost unbearable to have an enjoyable dining experience. The atmosphere is very nice and the food is awesome! This is our first visit, and it will not be our last. The restaurant is our new "steak place" . I had the filet and my husband had the bone in ribeye. Both were cooked perfectly. The whipped potatoes and green beans were very tasty, and the desserts are delicious.
