This was our 6th visit and as usual the steaks were perfect. We arrived for our reservation and were seated immediately. In less than 5 minutes we had our drink order. Our choices were the New York Strip and Filet Mignon. They were cooked to medium rare perfection. Our waitress and other staff member's were attentive but not intrusive. It's a really pretty place. Most everything we've had, has been pretty tasty. We go often. The only thing that kept me from giving a 5 star review is the service. It's not that they are rude, like all places some are friendly and some not, but they all are slow. After you get your beverages, you may have to wave down a server for anything. They get really busy on the weekends, but they are slow no matter how many people are there. I know it takes a while to cook some dishes but it would be great if they would check on you in case you need another drink, refill, more butter etc. I guess they're Nice and Slow. read more

We have been here many times and the majority of our experiences have been great Tonight the service was painfully slow. We asked the waiter about the slow delivery and his response was amazing to us. He said "well we had a lot of people that showed up without a reservation" My response- really...we book at least two weeks ahead to get a reservation and your telling my walk ins are causing the delay I mentioned this to the owner- who had not walked the dining room during our entire stay- and she was sorry and offered free desserts After over 2 hours trying to have a simple steak ( which was great ) the last thing we wanted to do is spend another 30 min waiting on desserts! Hopefully they were just having a bad night, but my high bar for them was missed tonight and it will be some time before we are back read more

The atmosphere and food was wonderful! It's a nice change of pace to dine at an upscale restaurant in the country rather than in the middle of a bustling city! I had their beef filet with peppercorn sauce and it was cooked to perfection! Hubby had their mahi mahi which was beautiful garnished and absolutely did not disappoint. The sides are family style and we chose steamed asparagus & garlic mash potatoes. We had a ton left over so in hindsight, one side dish would've been plenty! X-CEL-LENT!!!! I had the 26oz Bone-In Ribeye cooked to a medium perfection!!! The seasoning was a little salty around the edges but once I got into the meat... divinity! I had the baked crab cakes in orange mustard sauce (right to the point goodness); the 26oz Ribeye with Brandy Peppercorn Sauce (The sauce was a little rich for my tongue but the steak was perfectly juicy and oh-so succulent); the 10oz Australian Cold Water Lobster Tail (Just like lobster should be cooked and with HOT butter!); the sauteed mushrooms (they're mushrooms); and the creme brulee (I've had better but it was still the perfect ending). My great-Aunt was celebrating her birthday that night and she had the pecan breaded Catfish... I had a nibble and the pecan crust was really yummy! This place is way too cool for words as it's on a working ranch off the beat-n-path. Friendly staff, great food, excellent ambiance/decor and beautiful scenery outside the windows. I have been three times and all three times were a disaster. Most recently, my family went for my mom's birthday because no one wanted to drive all the way to Dallas. Everything was going fine, they have AMAZING bread (hence the one star) and at first our waitress was very nice but service was abnormally slow. Finally we got to order. I ordered a filet cooked medium, " A medium steak should have a thick band of light pink through the middle but, more browned than pink. The sides should be a rich brown color and the top and bottom charred darkly (but no black). About.com". When I ordered the waitress told me "our medium has more of a hot pink center, is that ok?" Well of course it is, I'd rather have it under cooked than burnt, so I told her that would be perfect. When our meals arrived my steak looked like beef jerky, no lie when I cut into it the knife had a hard time! I simply said, "Ma'am my steak is well done and I ordered medium..." I was cut off as she snapped "it is just because you are by the window. you need to take a bite of it before you complain". Now I tend to be a pretty laid back person but I know how I like my steak cooked and have eaten at some of the most prestigious steak houses in the country so I smiled and said "I'm sorry but it is burnt and the natural light from the window does not effect the black top or the dry, brown center. Could I please have a stake that is cooked Medium?" she proceeded to argue with me telling me to eat the steak and that it is cooked perfectly. The manager finally came over and when I explained the situation she simply said "well, I guess there was a miss-communication when YOU ordered. You must have said well, but we will get you a new steak." I have never ordered a steak well and if you and the rest of my family recalls, the lovely waitress and I discussed how they cook their medium steaks... If it was the first time I have had problems at this restaurant then I would say maybe she was just having a bad day but after the third time, I have decided to mark it off my list of possibilities. Let me first say that we were dining here for my wife's birthday and wanted to go someplace out of the ordinary. We chose Four Winds based on other recomendations. We had the crab cakes for app - taste was great but cakes were very small (think silver dollar and almost as thin). We each got a different steak and all were superbly cooked and had a great taste to them. If this review were only on the food, then it would get a 4-4.5. However, the service was terrible. Our waited appeared to have no other tables to wait on but was gone several different times for 20+ minutes. He had no idea what the special was (didn't appear any of the servers did) and had to refer back to his notes frequently. Our drink ended up empty multiple times during the course of our 2.5 hr dinner (should have been 1.5 hr tops). Overall the locationa, ambience and food were great, service could use some help. read more

First, don't rely on your gps or mapquest to get to the restaurant or you'll end up somewhere near Lake Tawakoni. The restaurant is located less than a mile north of I-20 on FM 47. Attire: Smart casual to dressy. Service: Outstanding Beautiful setting out in the country with a lovely lake and rolling pastures. Would love to come back in cooler weather and relax on the front porch. Inside is a cross between ranch and lodge - very open and light with tall ceilings and plenty of windows to bring in the beautiful outdoor views. White table cloths and formal table settings. Cocktails: Good to Very Good. Pom Martini was shaken but could have used a little more vodka. Other drinks were adequate. Food: Bread served before the meal was good. Caprese salad was ok - tomatoes, red onion, and brined mozzarella with good balsamic vinaigrette -- but no basil? House salad had wonderful caramelized pecans and a house-made ranch dressing. Steaks were phenomenal! Great quality beef perfectly cooked. Halibut special was OK. Fish was good but over cooked a tad making it dry. Accompanying sauce was just drizzled and not enough to overcome the dry. Good flavor, though and served on a bed of asparagus which could have used a minute more on the grill. Sides: Baked potato well prepared and good size; scalloped potatoes good but nothing memorable, creamed spinach was really good, creamed corn was good. Remember the sides are meant to be served family style and will easily serve 4. Special chocolate cake with homemade caramel ice cream was fabulous but creme brulee was sub-par with little flavor. My very favorite place to eat for special occasions. It's about an hour from us so we only go every so often. Place only takes reservations and is always packed. They don't advertise and are only word of mouth so that should tell you how good they are. Completely hidden location that you would miss every time if you weren't looking for it. BEST STEAK EVER! And I'm not comparing it to Salt Grass... I'm talking best steak compared to anywhere including Mortons. I always get the house salad (I dream about this salad), the filet mignon cooked medium with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. Bread is awesome and dessert is just good... they could make dessert better. People rave about their bread pudding but I think it's just ok. I've had the onion rings and crab cakes as an appetizer but nothing beats their goat cheese and pesto crostini app... soooo good... we always save a little goat cheese for our steak. The waitress recommended that once and we've done it since. Service is always top notch. Took my parents here for their anniversary. Reservations are a must!!! They were great at getting us a table by the windows, lovely view! Food was great. The mignon was one of the best I've ever had! Food is a little pricey, but about right for an upscale dining experience. Definitely a fun place to take someone for a special occasion. I'll start by saying that I've actually never been here before. So how can I review the business? Well since I can't review the food, I'll review the customer service. The manager, Richard, worked with me to plan a special surprise dinner for a friend of mine and her spouse who is battling cancer. All I wanted for them was to have a memorable date night at their favorite restaurant during a very difficult time. Richard made sure that the surprise worked out and that they were given a nice romantic dinner. They were so shocked and so happy. Our family had a birthday party for my bro-in-law here, in the upstairs party room. The service was excellent, and the food was divine, particularly the homemade bread and perfectly cooked steaks. They had a private restroom right outside our room, which was very convenient. It sits on a beautiful property, by a small lake, with rocking chairs on the porch. My husband and I had dinner at Four Winds last evening, April 27th. Last nights visit was our third time dining at the restaurant. Overall atmosphere is pleasing, at one time it was a private residence, lots of wood and large fireplace. The food has always been delicious, service is professional, price is very reasonable. I have two complaints 1. Food presentation is not a priority. We ordered a shrimp cocktail to share, the shrimp arrived drenched in cocktail sauce presented on a mishmash of old lettuce. The tomato, mozzarella and onion salad could have been pretty but it wasn't. The main course was the special, a filet with mashed potatoes and string beans. Tasted great looked unappealing. Food should just be just as appealing to the eye as it is to the palate. 2. When leaving the restaurant we were hit with cigarette smoke, people were smoking on the front porch, not what I wanted after enjoying a meal. read more
