Delicious!!!!!! This is my friend's favorite bakery in Berkeley and I came here to get her a box of pastries for her birthday. I arrived around 7:30 and it was empty, but as I was deciding what to get there was a line out the door. Everything looks delicious it was so hard to choose. For myself I got the egg and ham croissant which was so unique and absolutely delicious. A perfect savory treat. I also had a bite of their strawberry-rhubarb breton which was also delicious, kinda like a shortbread cookie with cream and strawberry. The worker was super sweet helping me out and patient as I was struggling on what to order for her and myself. Small shop with meter/street parking.

liked the pain au chocolat though i wouldn't go out of my way for it from sf. there was a line out the door on a sunday morning, waited about 10 minutes to get to the front and place my order, they grab your items and hand it to you from across the counter. just a bench inside (no one really sits on it), and a couple other benches outside.

This is a small bakery in a quaint neighborhood known for its French pastries. A family favorite and v European. They offer bread, quiche, sandwiches on baguette and pastries. I believe there's also the option to order full pies or cakes. Everything is amazing but very sweet. The sandwiches are very simple. Friendly quick service. Absolutely no animals here. Don't bring your dog. They sell out early on weekends and Holidays as well.

Dang !!!! Another 5 stars because no one (beside La Châtaigne in Lafayette) does croissants as they ought to be. I would genuinely advise you to use the amazing pre-paid order they have by simply calling the store. If they don't pick up - as they are kind of super busy- leave your number and you get a call back. It secures that what you want will be bagged and ready for you to grab, you can even walk straight in and wait near the refrigerated counters where they will simply ask for your name. Unless you like being in line , then don't pre-order and join the much deserved line of faithfuls.

I really love all the baked goods from here! You honestly cannot go wrong with any! We came the day before July 4th at around 9:30am. We were lucky and found meter parking a block away! The line into the shop wasn't too long and it went by quick! I order the apricot oolong cake, canelé, baguette, ham & egg croissant, fruit scone! Everything was so delicious! The ham & egg croissant reminded me a bit of Craftsmen & Wolves' rebel within muffin! I really like the fruit scone the most!! The staff was super friendly and patient with my indecisiveness! lol I really can't wait to go back and get more items!

Fournee Bakery is a true gem for pastry lovers. Their croissant is perfectly crispy on the outside with soft, buttery layers inside--easily one of the best I've had. The chocolate brownie is rich, dense, and deeply satisfying without being overly sweet. And the chocolate chip cookie hits the mark with just the right chew and bursts of melty chocolate. Everything feels thoughtfully made with high-quality ingredients. Definitely worth the visit if you're in the area.

Was in the area and decided to stop by. Street parking is available, but tricky during its busiest hours, but we managed to find a spot a few blocks away. What I tried: coriander walnut scone (3/5) -- the texture of the dough alone was very spongy, but the walnut and coriander went well together fruit scone (3/5) -- wish the distribution of fruit was better in this. The scone was quite dry, cake-like, and tasted of nothing. The turbinado sugar is the only thing that helped it almond croissant (5/5) -- sweet, nutty, crispy pain au chocolat (5/5) -- beautiful flaky layers and very good quality dark chocolate I'd be willing to try out more of their items if I'm in the area again.

Still my favorite bakery ! Had to stop by to load up on the best chocolate almond croissant and try their yuzu fruit danish ! Glad the sandwich wasn't sold out so we got the ham and cheese on baguette which was savory good ! Their baguette is crisp chewy that doesn't ripe the roof off your mouth Staff are always smiling friendly !

the chocolate almond croissant and date croissant was my favorite! but the rest was pretty average in my opinion/ cheese bread was super cold/ didn't feel too fresh :(

Awhile back, I tried to bring as much business to Star Meat as I could because 1. it's a small business and 2. it's inside Star Grocery (which I LOVE, so it's convenient). When I would go there, there would often be 2 or 3 people behind the counter and oftentimes I would be the only customer. I felt like I had to stand there forever before anyone even acknowledged I existed. Each person would be busy doing something, but there was no "I'll be with you in 2 minutes." Finally, I went one day and there were 3 workers behind the counter chatting with each other. I was the only customer and was standing around 6 feet away from them, looking right at them. They went on with there conversation (not doing any other work) for a full 5 minutes. Finally I thought, "OK, they really don't seem to want my business, so I can go to any one of 4 other places and get what I want." That was a year or two ago. So, today I thought, why not give it another try, it's certainly convenient. Again, I'm the only customer at the counter. One guy is washing equipment and two guys are making sandwiches. I know that they know that I'm there, there are mirrors all along the back wall exactly for the purpose of seeing the customers. After around 4 minutes I think, who knows how long I'm going to be standing here. Maybe they have to make 20 sandwiches and I'll be here for a half hour. So, I left. I don't have anything like this experience at the 4 other meat counters I go to in the area. I'm totally fine waiting if I have some sense that I'm waiting for a purpose and that the worker will get to me as soon as they can. But at Star Meat, it feels like I'm more of an inconvenience than a customer. "Hi, I'll be with you as soon as I can," goes a long way.

I've had their Spicy Hog, steak with mushroom, a few Cubans, but the one that I always come back to is "The Balls" sandwich. First off, this sandwich is massive, so be sure that you come here on an empty stomach. These beef meatballs are seasoned to perfection and bursting with flavor. The balls are covered in their red sauce with provolone and Grana Padano, which gives it that nutty and salty flavor that pairs extremely well with the meatballs and baguette. All the juices and cheese just get soaked up to perfection. The baguette bread they use is supplied by La Farine, which is just a few meters away from each other. Just putting out there that La Farine is hands down one of the best bakeries in Oakland, so it makes sense that this sandwich would be so dang good. I'll be honest that I'm not a big fan of the chips or those chips in general and could be fine with just the sandwich. If you are going to have any sandwich to eat here first, I would highly recommend you try "The Balls" because I promise you will not be disappointed. I will always say that the dozen or so times I've been here, the staff are always so friendly, and the atmosphere is very down to earth. The price of their sandwiches is in the $20 range, but the quality and portion make it totally worth it.

I remembered that decision as we drove down Claremont on our way to Sweet Maria's. On our way back up, we stopped off at Souvenir Coffee for a couple of sandwiches and one coffee. After the person taking my order repeated back my drink as a cortado, I agreed that a cortado would be an even better choice than the macchiato that I had in my mind's eye. The cortado came out first, followed not long afterwards by our sandwiches. Both the drink and the grilled cheese sandwich were excellent; we clearly had a 5-star experience. Souvenir Coffee struck me more as a drink place with a few food items than as a lunch destination. I know the high reputation of the sandwiches at the Star Grocery next door. You changed me Krispy Joe's, and had me eating stuff I never would have. Also, drinking stuff I never would have. I bought their chai and lemonade, both were 5 stars, and they offered me their pickle juice electrolyte drink to try. I was skeptical at first, but again they made me a believer. I hate pickle juice and pickle flavored anything in general. Yet, they converted me once again when they offered me a sample of their pickle-aid. It tasted like a mild tasting plain Gatorade. If I were still training for a marathon, I would totally buy this! Back to their amazing sandwiches. They are made with such care, dusting every sandwich that's made to order with their secret spices while toasting the meat and bread. The slaw was fresh and herbaceous. Again, made with care and craftsmanship. I am rooting for this business to expand and take over Ike's Sandwiches. I believe in you Krispy Joe's, you have my vote!
