I must have gone too late in the day but when my sister and I showed up there was barely anything in their deli case. My sister has been here several times and said that it's never been this "empty" but regardless we enjoyed our slice of Marionberry Pie, Lemon Bar and Cocoa Bar. The Marionberry had a nice tart and not too sweet Marionberry filling. The crust was a little too sugary in my opinion but the two together was a nice balance. The Lemon Bar was pretty solid and Cocoa Bar was definitely that, not a brownie or a fudge brownie. Much lighter and not too sweet, which again was nice. But also not very chocolatey either, just tasted like cocoa powder. I definitely need to go back when they are stocked with all their goodies... I'm more of a savory-person so I can't wait to try their soups! read more

My husband is allergic to dogs and is more of a cat person. I really wanted Theo but my husband said "no" :( So while walking around PG, we stumbled on Fournier's Bakery Cafe. Most of the pastries were purchased out of the glass case. My dad bought me a chocolate chip cookie. It was the most amazing and perfectly baked chocolate chip cookie. I decided to purchase a croissant for my breakfast the next morning (it was a delish croissant!!!) and a cookie for the parents to share- which consisted of nuts, coconuts and chocolate chips. Customer service was polite. I couldn't help but notice the lady behind the counter watered down another customer's coffee with plain old hot water and when the customer returned they were upset at the flavor of lack thereof. As a local Pagroviam decided ONE LAST time we would give it a chance to change our opinion. Unfortunately is was as horribly consistent as our experience. The coffee should be labeled 'tea'. Clearly trying to save on not using as many coffee beans! I tried three blends and put a bit each time. You could see through each one. I went back to counter to tell the gal at the register and she literally jus looked at me. NO apology, no comment, nada. The big bald guy is as rude as they come. He clearly could care less and is actually bothered when he has to help a customer! We will stick to Pavels and never wonder again why their lines are out the doors for years. This review is for the Wedding Cake from Fournier's Bakery. Anything wedding related takes time and patience (and a bit of luck). After making appointments with a 5-starred french bakery in Monterey and some others, I decided to add Fournier's bakery to the list. The reason - I called on a short notice and mentioned we will be in Monterey and asked for an appointment. Kevin (the owner) was honest and forthcoming and was able to fit us in. We arrived to the place (tiny shop - everything seems to be made from scratch), met with Kevin who took time to talk to us and understand what we are looking for, and sampled three cakes that he made specifically for us. Wow. We were blown away - and I am not even a cake person. We thanked Kevin for this time and went to sample other bakers. Other places were MUCH less personable: "here are a few slices from the fridge. any questions - check the booklet and call us". So not only Kevin's cakes were fresh, tasted better and were more reasonably priced, he was actually cared to talk to us. That same day, we went back, and gave the deposit for a 3 tier white chocolate moose with raspberries cake. About a few weeks before the wedding, we came back with a picture of slightly changed design and Kevin said: "no problem. I can do that too". And he did! The cake looked stunning and exactly as we wanted (see photo with the blue ribbons), was delivered and set up right on time, and raspberries were INCREDIBLY fresh. Everyone absolutely loved it. TL;DR - if you need a delicious wedding cake, at a good price from an honest local bakery - give Kevin Fournier's bakery a call. You won't regret it. read more

I was very disappointed today when stopping in for a sweet bite and a coffee. The young lady at the service counter did not greet us upon entering and when I approached her she was busy doodling on a post it note. My latte milk was not frothed properly and the owner who was trying to help this young lady stopped helping a bit too soon for my drink to be saved. I was not offered to have my roll warmed and my husband asked. It was a bit forgotten in the process and sadly overheated...it would have been lovely though. The service was a real downer. I would love to have tried the ham and cheese croissant I see reviewed here but I am really not sure I will be back on our nearly weekly trips to PG. read more

In this 'hood, patrons are whippin' out $100 bills (from their goyard) like it's chump change, but I'm a credit card-totin' chick. Luckily, their baked goods did not strike them out. Lemon bar was properly chewy & firm & a bit tangier than it was sweet. The raspberry bar, which held up nicely after almost 10 hours in the car, was sticky & crumbly & although more sour than I would've liked, was still a solid 3. Let me just start this review by saying that I'm not a huge sandwich person.... That being said I had the curry chicken salad sandwich which was good for a sandwich. They include chips with your sandwich for $8.25. Not a bad price, but the chicken salad in the sandwich tasted as good as the Trader Joe's salad you can buy for half the price. You can smell the fresh bread baking as you walk in and the bread was good. My favorite part of the place? The COOKIES! Definitely do have their cookies. Came here for a quick sandwich during my walk around town. The lady came to the front to greet me and encouraged the curried chicken salad sandwich. It was served promptly. Nothing exciting. The curry flavor was weak and there were some grisly pieces of chicken in the mix. Overall, it was OK. Not a place I would be excited to frequent often. My girlfriend went here to meet a friend for brunch. She was very please with the environment, the price, and the quality and taste of the product. Here's the kicker - They only take cash. Well ... my girlfriend didn't have any cash on her, just her credit card. The owner of the shop put a note in the register said just bring it back when you have time. Well, needless to say we were heading to Southern California for a day. 2 days later, my girlfriend went back to the shop, paid what she owed, and tipped them $4 ( bill was $6, gave the owner a $10 ) for being so nice to trust a total stranger. Ordered the cake a few days in advance and it was ready & waiting for $26 cash. APPEARANCE: A TASTE: A TEXTURE: A RECOMMENDATION: After three visits, I wouldn't go anywhere else! Note: I have not tried any of the savory items here. I like this little bakery. While I wouldn't rank it as one of my favorites, I enjoyed my experience here. The employees were not particularly friendly/helpful (actually when I asked for a recommendation they both admitted they have never tried either of the cakes). The brownie was a little hard/tough. However, I would strongly recommend their white chocolate strawberry cake. It was amazing! I'm glad I had that, because on the brownie itself, I would not rank this place with 4 stars. Interior seating is limited, but comfortable. I like that they ask "for here or to go," and if you respond with "for here" they use real dishware. I find it wasteful when I say "for here" and still receive disposable cups and lids. I would like to return to try some of their savory items. Head ups: cash only read more

Staying in the beautiful little town of Pacific Grove from out of state. While walking by we stopped in and asked if we could order a birthday cake for the following night., The owner was not welcoming and very rude. My girlfriend and I eat here WAY too much, but it's delicious and (relatively) healthy. I love the veggie sandwich with tomato soup (and I'm really picky about veggie sandwiches -- I suggest no vinegar/oil, as they can make the bread soggy). My girlfriend likes the curry chicken salad, and she's a chicken snob (I'm a vegetarian so I can't comment on it). The baked goods are definitely worth a go. The Grove cookie is my go-to chocolate-chip cookie in the area, and the pies are all delicious. I suggest eating outside, at the sidewalk tables, or getting lunch to go and taking a short walk down to the rec trail for a bay-side picnic. Tips: 1.) Cash only. Boo! (But there's Bank of America and a Chase within a block.) 2.) They stop serving at 4 p.m., but you might want to get there earlier, as they often run out of soup and desserts, especially on nice days. read more

Great food. My all time favorite is the homemade tomato soup. It comes with a homemade rosemary foccacia bread. When you dip it in the soup it MELTS in your mouth. So good. Cash only though so be prepared and if you dont like spicy mustard which a lot of people dont, they automatically use it on every sandwich/paninni. This place has the best oatmeal cookies we have ever had but hardly complement the really bad service. The owner isn't just rude, he is mean rude! I went in to get my wife a couple of cookies. There were no oatmeal in the case so I made the huge mistake of asking him if he had any. His reply "do you see any in the case?". I said no but I thought you might have more in the back to which he said "couldn't sell them if they were in the back!". Needless to say, regardless of how good the cookies are we will never return to this place. The owner should really stay in the kitchen where he doesn't have any interaction with customers because he is as rude and nasty as any merchant I have ever experienced. In addition, he must have trained the lady that works there because she is running a tight second to him in customer service. Looking for a nice place to stop on our bike ride, we stopped at this quaint looking bakery. With a French name like Fournier, we were hoping the pastries would be incredible. Well, this was an overwhelmingly incredibly disappointing stop. The man at the counter, presumably the owner Kevin, was so rude and unwelcoming. He didn't want to make an iced coffee, criticized me for wanting butter for my croissant ("it already has enough butter in it"), didn't want to tell us what yogurt flavor was hidden behind the other yogurts, when a customer brought them their plates by bussing their tables he said "I don't care". It goes on and on. We even left a tip, and he continued to be rude. Was going to give two stars because the granola is pretty good, but after leaving a tip and being kind he was once again rude when we returned. We will not be back. read more

After reading reviews of various bakeries/ cafes on Lighthouse Ave., we decided to give this one a try. We came in around 9:30 and there was not a lot of variety which is to be expected. My husband and I split a bear claw which was excellent. He had coffee and I had hot tea. Good selection of tea and it is served in a little metal pot so you get more than one cup out of it. The young lady that got our stuff seemed friendly, but the older dude that rang us up just scowled at me and said nothing when I thanked him. Very surprised to see tips in the jar if this is normal.
