They don't have any espresso drinks just plain coffee. There are no decorations inside just some plain chairs and tables. They weren't kept clean and a few had crumbs all over. We returned to this bakery just recently while staying in town for a 4 day vacation. I can honestly say the quality of their pastries (flaky,moist & not too sweet) and cookies were outstanding. I don't typically leave bad reviews but this was particularly a disappointing experience for us. Empty cafe, very rude service. Not sure if the man there was the owner but I would avoid this place and try a different place. Pastries are good but not worth the bad service. I hate to tell you how amazing the bear claws are, it's already hard to get one because they sell out so fast! The muffins, bars, and pies are also delicious. Every baked treat I've had from here is delicious; from the Marion berry tart to the apple danish to the giant cinnamon rolls. Me perpetually being on a pseudo diet, I said I'm good and would wait for lunch. I waited around and looked at the pastries, which did look enticing--fluffy croissants, giant cinnamon rolls, handheld pies, large cookies. When I saw my fiance's raspberry bar, it looked good but didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary. I was curious and took a bite, and I must say, it's the best raspberry bar I've ever had. The base is yummy like a pie crust and complements the fruity jam filling so well, topped with a deliciously crunchy streusel topping. Although it looks like something you could make from following a recipe, it tastes like something worth going out of your way for. This is definitely going on my Monterey staples list. The bakery has a very local small business feel. Prices were good, service was great, and COVID precautions were followed. Went in to get some baked treats and what we got were some mediocre baked goods and no service from the person behind the counter who actually seemed angry that we were there. When we walked in it took quite a while for him to come out of the back because he was busy watching movies on his phone. Terse one-word answers, and the longest responses we received were "anything else?" and " cash only". My mother in law was picking out a cinnamon roll and he ignored her and grabbed the closest one to him even though she had chosen another one. I sincerely hope the gentleman was simply having a bad day and isn't like this all the time. Rude staff. Bad service. Cash only with a tiny sign. I was with my little brother who wanted a cookie. The cashier/baker told me it was cash only very coldly. I walked 1/2 a mile down to pull out cash and when I came back to purchase the items that were still out to the side the cashier told me he'd help me after he was done making a sandwich. Went early for a cinnamon roll that people rave about online. The one person in front of me in line got the last one. Kind of annoying if they know it is a star item that they don't make more. Got the bearclaw instead. Ate two bites - I think the baker knows what he is doing and is talented but unfortunately it tasted like a cheap fat/oil was used and I couldn't get past that taste. Later I offered it to my kiddos and they wouldn't eat it. Too bad as I was excited to learn about this place and to support a local business. We're flooded with amazing, high quality bakeries in Monterey so we'll keep going to those! read more

While planning for my wedding we tasted A LOT of cakes. Both my husband and I were pretty set on having carrot cake as the main flavor so we were on the hunt for the best on the peninsula (or even outside the peninsula if we had to). Fournier's has quite a bit of competition in the area. I've had great cakes from Bechlers, Whole Foods, Layers and Peninsula Pastries but Kevin beat them all when it came to the carrot cake. No one else can touch that cake! It was a smash hit on our wedding day and he decorated it to my very exacting demands in detail. I was so happy when I saw it and still proud of it when I look at the pictures. Kevin is a class act. Did you know he used to be the head pastry chef for Pebble Beach? Nice Resume. You can trust him to deliver the cake of your dreams on your dream day or just for a nice buttery croissant and coffee when you're out strolling Pacific Grove. It has to be the most reasonably priced bakery for the quality you get as well. This very much pleased my accountant husband after I showed him all of the designer cakes I'd picked out in every bridal magazine. All I was interested in was the razzle dazzle and he was interested in dollar signs. I've found myself in this little bakery café for lunch at least once a week for the past month of so. I'm a big fan of the half sandwich and soup combo--usually pairing the ham and Swiss panino with the tomato soup--at under $10, it's a great deal for lunch in PG. And let's not forget the cookies--the Grove cookie is a must every time I'm here! Maybe one of these days I'll finally try the chicken noodle soup (which looks and smells fantastic, with large pieces of chicken and homemade noodles) or the cold sandwiches. I walked in and immediately ordered 2 mochas took a seat inside at first while waiting I had to use the restroom and in order do that you have to walk through the kitchen area (didn't care for that) but once there the restroom was clean and neat smelled nice and had fresh paper towels to dry my hands. Once finished I made my way back out to pick up my mochas and ended up outside at a table having them in the wonderful sunny ( not too hot ) day.... The mochas were so good I had to go back in an tell the lady who made them "Totally the best I've had in Pacific Grove." My half a tuna salad sandwich was very uninteresting, and the white bread a bit soggy. (Why not serve it on herb focaccia, like the other sandwiches?) Service was okay, if unenthused. it was a cold, rainy day, and the staff kept opening the door (I assume so the kitchen would be comfortable). Kind of annoying. Pastries were good, but not great. We had a Grove cookie (with chocolate chips and walnuts), a slice of strawberry-rhubarb pie (this was VERY good!), a decent lemon bar, and an okay apricot-cheese Danish. Came into have a light lunch and relax on my day off in downtown Pacific Grove. Punctuated by cute Victorians and family-run establishments, Pacific Grove is always a nice place to relax and enjoy many small town comforts. I agree with a prior reviewer, Naomi K, that the service was rather brusque. Upon entering, we received a half-smile and a lukewarm greeting; not rude but not very pleasant. This being a long-standing bakery, I decided we should give it a try and sample some of their offerings. We ordered a couple panini's and coffees and sat inside. The panini's were made to order and quite tasty with a nice melding of meat, cheese and spices (comes with a side of chips). We both ordered the ham and Swiss and were both pleased with the size and good staying power (we were full for a good part of the day). The coffee here was very good with bottomless refills. They serve coffee from the Sonoma-based Taylor Maid Farms and it is certified organic. Coffee fixings like chocolate powder, honey and cinnamon are available for your coffee adornment. Delicious coffee! The dessert selection looked pretty good....fresh-baked cookies, bear claws, cinnamon rolls, brownies. Took a peek in the kitchen and saw the pastry chef crafting all kinds of yummy-looking desserts. I'll definitely have to try out some selections from the dessert section and some of their homemade soups. Fournier's is a good choice for fueling up before a day at the beach (only 2 blocks away) or a good choice to read a book and catch up on some work over some tasty treats. We went to this restaurant to surprise a friend and it started out really well. The location is bright. There are picture windows to watch passers-by, the restaurant was clean and the pastries looked terrific. This would be a terrific place deserving of a terrific rating if you did not have to meet the owner. The owner clearly has two personalities. If you are a regular he acts like a "five" on the hospitable meter. If you are new, as we say in New York, fuhgeddaboudit! I do not need restaurant to play "Hail to the Chief" when I arrive but I work hard for my coin and would rather spend it in restaurants that appreciate the fact that I came there. There is no welcome in this restaurant, the place does not accept credit cards and the owner seems to take great joy in saying "we don't take cards," and the owner clearly does not like dealing with the public. Suggestion to the owner: get a job as a bakery chef in a restaurant where you do not have to deal with the public. Suggestion to the public: Until there is a change in ownership go somewhere else.
