When I arrived the line was so long that I called them to tell them that it would take an hour to get to the front. Terrible. Wouldn't even recommend Fox rental to my worst enemy. The lady worked super slowly and would not take my husband ID, in return it screwed us over. Husband made a reservation on Priceline for a small sedan for our honeymoon in Texas. We get off the plane and had to stand in line for a good half hour (only one lady working slowly at the desk). Once we get to the desk the lady asks to see my husband's ID. She, in a super snarky attitude, says "I can't take this it's illegible". (So side note. Yes it's not the prettiest ID, he's a diesel mechanic for Christ sakes, but you can still make out all the numbers, picture, name and all). So we ask if we can move the reservation over into my name. She said that because we made the reservation with Priceline, she couldn't do anything. So husband calls Priceline and after sitting on hold for about 10 minutes, asked to swap names on the reservation, they tell us they couldn't do anything but the lady behind the desk could do it. (So basically she didn't want to deal with us). We stand in line for another half hour to get back up to the desk. We tell her what the person on the phone told us. She then proceeds to say "Ok I'll need her(my) ID and a credit card in her(my) name". In other words she was being a b*tch and didn't want to do her job. (Another side note, we had just gotten a credit card for me but the daily limit didn't go high enough to pay for the rental. In other words we were screwed). We said F it and called price line and asked for our money back as we made our way down the line to a rental agency that would help us. We eventually find Enterprise rental and the gentleman behind the counter said he could read my husband's ID just fine. They even upgraded us for free because it was our honeymoon. read more

I would rate these guys -10 if I could. 1. We booked online however our confrontation number on the website does not work. I have called three times to take care of the issue and waited over an hour with no answer. 3. I used the call back option both today and yesterday, with no call back. 4. Now here is the issue. When my wife and kids who are 1000 miles away in Texas visiting friends they realized that the return time was wrong, 12 pm not 9:30 pm when their return flight was booked for. The guy told them they will just have to return the car early, what??? So i tried to change the return time that the lazy worker refused to do and the confirmation number will not work. So here I sit on hold again, DAY TWO! 5. Finally and most importantly the weekly rate was $270 on the confirmation. After hidden fees and extending the hours rented just 9 hours we are over $500 - NEVER AGAIN will I use Fox! 6. As a side note if you book through a third party you will also have to call into the company for the company confirmation number, the Southwest Airlines confirmation number did not work. Be ready to deal with people who unfortunately hate their jobs. Be generous and kids - I can tell these get a lot of hassles from frustrated customers! read more

Nearly 30 minutes waiting in line since they only had 1 person at the counter and several people with either no reservation or indecisive about what they wanted. The compact I reserved 3 weeks prior was not available so they tried to stick me with an SUV. No, absolutely not, had to demand to talk to a manager who by the way never came. Finally was given a car that wasn't cleaned because they had no others available. The gal at the car booth was rude and had an attitude when I refused the SUV. UPDATE: docking a star for two reasons: 1. The mailed final statement tacked on an additional $15 fee (I forget the name). I called and they told me it was a mistake (I hope!). LESSON: check your statement against your original invoice. 2. I received a toll statement with the $15 admin fee for a $1 toll. When I picked up the vehicle, I mentioned most of my driving was in Austin and was told I did not need a tag. Yet on I-35 south near the airport, there was ongoing construction and signs were not clear. There ARE Express lanes that charge a toll. I called the Toll Road Authority and they could not find the info based on licence plate, so I could not pay the toll online. Luckily, I called the Fox billing agency and they were able to knock off half the fee. LESSON: if you end up in an Express lane without a tag, be prepared to receive a bill! All in all, I am going to reconsider renting from Fox again. ======================================================= I had initial concerns booking with Fox after reading these reviews. The lines here were the longest of all the agencies at AUS...no doubt due to their cheap rates. After waiting in line 30 minutes, I was happy to have received an upgrade. The rep turned out to be courteous and did not try to up-sell me the insurance. Pickup and return was a quick and painless process. Docking one star due to the condition of the vehicle. The Hyundai I rented had 50k miles on the clock, so it's seen better days. Based on this single experience, I wouldn't mind renting from them again if I can save more than a few bucks over the established agencies. read more

I had a very, very bad experience with Fox in Phoenix a few years ago and was reluctant to approach them this time. But some last minute decision changes meant I needed a car and had no reservation when I landed in Austin. The lady who helped us was super nice and gave us a really, really good deal. The car was a Fusion hybrid, and the only reason for four stars instead of five is that the outside wash job was not very good. But the interior was spotless, and despite over 30,000 miles the car seemed almost new. As a side note, the Fusion hybrid got better than 45 mpg without any special effort. read more

The car we drove was broken and the customer service was terrible. They blamed us for their mistakes.

From the beginning it was a bad experience as clearly the staff didn't want to be at work hiding behind their computer rather than welcoming the customers lining up. Then they tried to upsell all their different insurance programs saying what I had with Expedia was worthless and wouldn't cover their car. They also have crazy rules likes 2 phones numbers had to be given for the car despite being a single person renting the car. When there was a small issue with the reservation they were unhelpful in resolving it basically telling me I'm screwed while laughing. They continued to be unhelpful in resolving the issue with Expedia even on the phone to the point Expedia canceled my reservation refunding me my money given their poor service (and helped me reserve with a different company - thanks Expedia !) I strongly advise you to avoid this company as I've since learned from friends they end up being more expensive than more reputable competitors due to Nickle and diming you for every little thing when you return the car. read more

DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM HERE! Especially because of COVID-19, I would not rent a car from this place because it is clear they do not clean their cars before giving them to the next customer. Picked up a car with a late flight, the car smelled a little like weed. The next morning I noticed a stain all along the passenger side a pillar, then inner windshield and the rear view mirror. The car was very dirty. There was a spider web in the rear driver side door. The change oil light came on and wouldn't go off. I tried calling the Austin location, I tried calling corporate customer service. I emailed twice and got no response. In the end I just returned it early because I wasn't comfortable driving it and was slapped with an early fee. . update: Fox finally contacted me. They weren't apologetic and offered me a 30$ credit for next time. Did I mention they charged me 40$ extra when I returned it? They didn't even want to cover the fees! Arrived at 1150 to counter which had instructions to go upstairs. Arrived upstairs which no one available except other customers waiting for assistance. Thirty minutes later no one arrived to help and no answer calling company. Looked up the business hours to make sure I wasn't wrong. Closing hour was 1230 and I waited until then. Ended up getting Uber to my hotel. Woke up early next day and called. Explained situation after a 50 minute hold with the only answer given was you reservation expired and no car available. Austin has a bunch of toll roads and if you're a visitor, you don't know where they are. Their toll system is like EZ Pass, but everywhere. You don't actually stop and pay a toll. Each time you go thru a toll, Fox charges you a $15 admin fee! The toll is $1.36, but they tack on a $15 admin fee. Nickel & Dime company... sheesh. Wish I just used a legit car rental company that didn't resort to these shenanigans. It's not like they told me this when I made the reservation either... only as you pick up the car. read more

What this means for the caller is: 1) The wait time is well over ten minutes per call 2) The person you are connected with has VERY limited access to information 3) You can NEVER be transferred among departments. Do not use this company. They have stolen money from me and refuse to resolve the issue after FIVE WEEKS of trying to do so. I was charged a $250 deposit that went through on my debit card immediately. I have called them every week since returning the vehicle (in perfect condition) to see when I can expect the funds to be returned to my account and each time they have told me some new line of BS that perpetually extends the length of time it takes to refund an account. I have rented many cars in my day and have NEVER felt so scammed. I paid $350 to rent a car for 48 hours. This is apparently how they operate on a regular basis and I wish I had done a little more research before deciding to use this company. We arrived around an hour early at the Austin airport for our rental and were told that our car wasn't there yet. We were told the only car available was an "upgrade" to a 2-door Dodge Challenger. It was awful. There were three of us and climbing in and out of the back seat with the seat belt in the way and the front seat sliding all the way back before it could be position to give leg room was not fun. While I realize that we arrived early, it really felt like good customer service would not have charged us for the upgrade. The car wouldn't have been any better, but at least I wouldn't have felt quite so angry with Fox. We were in Austin for a week to visit our daughter. We picked up our car and were talked into buying the $15/day toll fee plan, because the sales person asked us where we were going in an around Austin, and then pulled out a map and identified how "basically everywhere we went, we'd be experiencing tolls." Furthermore he said "the toll fees are $11/toll + the actual toll if you don't have a permit." No brainer, right? We drove almost 1,000 miles, all over the area, in and around Austin, San Antonio etc. and stumbled upon... you guessed it... one single toll. And that one was just outside the airport entrance road. I answered, in detail the customer satisfaction survey that Fox sent after we returned our car and identified this ethical struggle, and they chose to ignore my request. So after reading the reviews I almost cancelled my rental car reservation with Fox. After doing some price comparison, I decided to keep it (they had a much better price). I am glad I kept it!!! I had a GREAT experience.... from the website to the friendly agents that helped me to the easy drop off. My car was a 2105 Kia with low mileage and it was very clean inside and out. They give you a document that shows any pre-damage to the car, dents or dings. I did add a few areas that they overlooked. Nothing major but I wanted them added and that was no problem. The drop off was also super easy and fast. I read comments about problems getting the $150 deposit returned. I had zero issues and the amount was credited to my cc within 48 hours. Fox earned this 5 star rating and I would definitely rent a car from the Austin location again!! Thank you. read more

DO NOT EVER rent a car from FOX RENT A CAR!!! They totally screwed me over!!! I had rented a car for 4 days. (My flight was delayed and airport shuttle took 45 minutes to get me to the car rental place.) By the time I got there FOX RENT A CAR was closed for the night. I had to Uber to hotel and back to airport the next day! They not only would NOT change the rate from a 4-day rental to a 3-day rental. On top of that, they charged me an additional $135!!! (They told me it would be $35 for a toll charge tag and I let them fill the tank. I brought it back half full and gas was $3.82/gallon. That would have NEVER ended up being $135. ($100 to fill a half full tank on a compact car??? NO WAY!!!!) The car was not clean, the brakes weren't great! They didn't reimburse or lessen charges for the cost of the uber rides. And I had the car for 3 days and they STILL charged me for 4 days!!! What a scam!!! I rented it through BOOKING.COM and they would not make it right either! BEWARE!! read more

let me start off by saying we were pleased with the service at first... We dropped the car back off and tried to catch our flight at Austin Airport, but our flight ended up being cancelled/delayed about 3 times. We ended up having to book a flight out of San Antonio (2 hours away). Which meant we had to rent another car, we walked up to the counter and asked if we could get the same car we had just dropped of (within the last hour) and they said no, but gave us a new one. We explained our situation and thy were fully aware that we were headed to SanAntonio for a flight (meaning we would need to drop off our car at San Antonio......) Once in San Antonio we realize there is NO FOX RENTAL CAR AT THIS AIRPORT. So we called and asked for directions on what to do. Ended up costing us $700 because we had to get the car towed. All because they didn't inform their counter employees on proper ways to handle situations like ours. If they know that there is no drop off at thy airport then why the hell would they rent is the car fully knowing that something like this may happen. They didn't inform us or anything. Safe to say we will never use fox again. Nor recommend it to anyone. read more

We get there at the airport and I pulled my DL and credit cards out hand them to the guy and he says the rental is under my husband .I am very confused at this as I literally did all this under southwest .I put my name ,my credit ,and my email down but the guy wouldn't take any of my info said it was under my husband . After traveling all day, social distancing, and wearing a face mask, I arrived at the rental car booth at Austin International Airport. I was tired, hungry, tired, and worried. I had made the trip to Texas to be with my mother and father. My mother is in hospice care at home, and my dad is her sole care provider. Sierra, the Fox representative, was very nice, patient, and understanding. You see, it seems that my reservation was made for noon, and it was now 7 PM. She was able to book me into a car, give me impeccable driving directions out of the airport, and even gave me a phone charging wire so that I could map my route after I mentioned that my phone had died.
