Wont honor reservations - very rude agents - beware and don't rent from this dishonorable agency!

I booked through Expedia and got very worried when I saw the average rating on Yelp the morning I was going to pick up my car. I scheduled my pickup time for 8AM (arrived in Austin at midnight the night before) but didn't get to the rental counter until around 9AM. The agent at the counter was pleasant and easy to work with. Our car was clean and functional, no issues there. Drop off was smooth and we were told that we wouldn't be getting charged anything beyond what I paid when I reserved the car. Overall, a pleasant experience and I felt like I got good service for the $173 I paid for a car for the weekend. read more

SCAMMERS. I never write reviews but this was the single worst business transaction of my life. Never in my life have I experienced such a hard upsell in the guise of "doing me a favor." I paid for my rental in full months ago and somehow got hoodwinked into walking away with a bill that was almost twice what I had already paid, which was pitched as "saving me money," yet came with a completely inscrutable invoice and a total lack of transparency on costs. Fortunately my boyfriend talked me into walking back to the counter and got me a refund back down to the literal, LEGAL minimum extra costs--as opposed to the way the Fox team uses the term "minimum" to mean "unnecessary service charge that you don't know enough to question." If I could give no starts I would I'm in TX at the airport no one is at the fest I went to the 2nd floor like the sign on the desk says and the lady was a really big B**** ( and I don't say bad words about people) and almost yelled saying to go back downstairs to get my car. This all happened at Austin's Texas Airport. My flight was 30 minutes delayed. I landed slightly before 9 but checked a bag. Finally made it to their counter to pick-up my car that I had a reservation for and they had closed early for the night. No one there just a sign. I called the customer service line and have no clue where they are actually answering from and they indicated they show my location open so they can't refund my money. I took pictures of the time and and the sign. You better believe these people are giving my money back. I proceeded to another counter with actual people working and they informed me that they close their booth early all the time. FOX RENT A CAR do better! HIRE better! read more

Worst rental car company. Gave me a car with a bad battery. Had to have it jumped twice and replaced. Can't get in touch with anyone to assist. Don't rent from this company! Rude people, I was 6 minutes early for my reservation so they made me step aside and wait. After 6 minutes I went to the counter and was told by the gentleman, Ron, that I would have to wait for the lady who was helping the people that came in after me. So I waited another 10 minutes. Then when I was finally being helped with my rental Ron offered the people he was helping a complimentary upgrade while they did nothing for me but make me wait... when I finally got my car it was a Hundai (I rented an Explorer) and the vehicle was filthy! Coffee was spilled all down the drivers door and scratches all along the side. I notified the company of the condition of my car and they said someone would call me and let me know when a clean car was available. I waited for 2 hours before I finally left. I am still waiting for that call! I will never use Fox again and am letting everyone from social on down about my experience. Awful. read more

I am someone that wants to know what charges I can expect and why. When I asked questions, I got short and condescending answers from the gentleman that checked me in. When I asked why there was a $500 deposit, all I got back was "Everybody else does it." As someone that rents cars, this is not true. When I asked about the $150+ dollars that was in addition to the deposit. I was told that was insurance and that he already explained that to me. Again, wrong, and he took it off. I turned in the car 4 days ago, there are several charges on the receipt that are not clear and I still have the $500 deposit pending on my credit card. The man checking me in said it would come off immediately upon returning the vehicle. Very slow checkin: There was only one person at the desk handling customers in line and the phones that rang non-stop. I know he was busy, but being short and rude with people is not acceptable. Wish I could give every Fox Rent A Car zero stars. They never open on time, this location especially, they state everywhere that they open at 7am, our flight got in at 5:30am so we planned and were okay with waiting 90 minutes and we had somewhere we needed to be at 8am, so we would need to be prompt and efficient, however the Fox Rent A Car desk employee didn't show up at 7am and when the employee arrived it was 7:10 and we had to wait for her to be ready until 7:15ish. I know it's not that big of a time difference but this is a business, they should follow through with their business hours unless otherwise stated, very unprofessional and we will not be coming back to Fox ever again. The woman was super nice when she did finally help us, we are just very frustrated. Then when we got up to the floor to get our vehicle we had to wait even more because they didn't have a vehicle for us in the garage, which I don't understand why not because we have had this car booked and they could've easily had the car ready for us since they knew we booked it. So me and the girlfriend planned a trip to rock port for 4th of July of course comes our pick up day there's a problem at the window. First reason why I'm giving a 1 star review is because of the horrible customer service 3 employees there only one working while the other see 3 people waiting in line. 2nd this policy they have that you can't use a debit card if your a local within 150 miles of the place is one of the stupidest things ever. The lady at the desk started to get really smart and nasty. Since I've been screwed over by airport car rentals in the past, I didn't exactly have faith that this experience was going to be different. Overall, though, it turned out okay. Via Travelocity, we reserved an economy car for $312 for a week in Austin. When we got to the kiosk, they "upgraded" us to a Toyota Sequioa because I guess, since everything is bigger in Texas, I needed an appropriate vehicle to demonstrate that. Now, I'm not one to normally turn down an upgrade, but I wasn't having it this time. First of all, I barely clear 5'2" and didn't want to have to climb in and out of a car, plus I was already intimidated with driving an unfamiliar car in an unfamiliar city. So, my gf asks them to give us something smaller and they tell us the Sequioa is the "only thing available." When we walked around the car to note defects, we found a whole lot more than was was previously listed, including a cracked windshield. Also, the exterior didn't appear to have been cleaned. The gf went back to the kiosk with the new defect checklist and told them that, if they insist on having us drive the Sequioa, we're gonna take it off-roading like the previous renter obviously did. Suddenly, miracle of miracles, there was another vehicle available! A newer, cleaner, and more manageable Jeep Renegade. Turns out the Renegade had low tire pressure, but the resident mechanic (who bore a very close resemblance to Danny Trejo), fixed that problem pretty quickly after we went back to the kiosk a 3rd time. I'll chalk it up to the weirdness of Austin in that Machete put air in our tires. read more

Follow up from two days ago. So I got a reply from Fox to my post from two days ago. They aplogized that my rental eperience was not good. The reply from Fox was a prepared canned response and failed to address me ​the customer. I did not have a rental experience as they never showed up to give me the car that I had paid for in advance. I recently rented from Fox. They left a very uneasy feeling with me right from the start. First they ask you to sign a form saying there is no damage to the car BEFORE you ever see the car. They have a little carbon copy form for the damage. I went out to the car and it had scrapes in several places. The agent told me to mark it on my copy. Um hello then its my word against theirs. When I returned the car they didn't come look at it. Didn't check fuel level or anything. Told me my receipt would be emailed to me. (Still waiting on that) knowing they had a $150 deposit on my Discover card it made me very uneasy. I tried calling several times but their machine basically says they are to busy and hangs up on you. I did get the deposit back in a timely manner but I would never rent from them again. This review is for the remarkable customer service we recieved from Donna at the Austin Airport fox rental car. Without going into too much detail we were stuck at the airport without a car as we only had a credit card in my business name and my wife's name but the car was booked in my name requiring us to cancel the reservation and book another rental with on the spot pricing double the amount. Donna's empathy and decency took the time to find a solution that would work for us and the company. She is a true asset to any company and her kindness and caring sensibility should not go unrecognized. read more

I could not get a hold of anyone on the phone for an hour, then once I did, they flat out refused to cancel my reservation and return my money even though it had only been a few minutes. Rented my car back in July only to be told upon arrival that every car in the lot was gone. Sent instead to Enterprise, which was charging hundreds more dollars by that point, and was told by Fox they'd refund the difference. If I could give 0 stars I would. When we booked our rental car with Fox Rent A Car, we set a pick up time. We arrived prior to that pick up time at the check in counter and waited 45 minutes. We also waited 45+ minutes for our rental car. There was no compensation for our wasted time or good customer service. The employees were lackluster and completely incompetent. One worked strolled by us and the 5 other parties waiting leisurely texting on her phone. I would never recommend this company to anyone. FRAUD! If I could give no stars I would. I paid for the rental on 9/3. I arrived at the Austin Airport on 9/8 around 11:30pm due to flight delays. Went to pickup my rental and was told a deposit was needed. The cc I used to pay for the rental was declined. I offered another cc but the guy at the counter said they needed to wait 24 hours before trying a different card. I was told I could come back the next day and try a different card. This made absolutely no sense to me. I have a cc you can use but you won't. Plus telling me I can try again tomorrow. How? I don't have transportation which is why I was at your rental counter. I had to catch a $30+ dollar Uber to my hotel. I filed a dispute with Travelocity and Fox Rental Car response was......... "I spoke with Fox Car Rental, and they decided to denied your request in getting a refund for the reason that there are no notes showing on their records that they did not allow you to pick up the car. I thought I was saving money..their prices are only slightly lower than Hertz, Avis and Enterprise...BUT they charge your credit card immediately for the entire amount of the rental (instead of being charged when you return the car) They also charge you a $150 deposit that doesn't get refunded until 4 days after the return of the vehicle...and, the WORST thing they charged me a $480 "early return" fee..seriously! There are so many bad reviews for this company, but my rental couldn't have gone more smoothly. I waited about 20 min in line at the airport for the car (which is to be expected). When I got to the employee, she wasn't overly friendly but she was nice and did her job. I had rented a Jeep Wrangler and that's what I received. Fox rental car at the Austin airport is horrible!! The check Out staff is unfriendly and rude! They didn't have the car I reserved so they charged me more money for a different car. I had a flat tire on the freeway, I called roadside assistance 3x was on hold for 45 minutes each time. Left 3 messages and NO ONE called me back. The check in staff was much better, she credited the flat tire I paid for and apologized for their horrible customer service. The car was filthy inside and out and smelled bad. To be fair, I made my $15/day reservation only 8 hours beforehand. But, Fox, your are supposed to be open until 1am. When I got to the desk at 11, there was no one there! The people behind me were flummoxed as well! Where were you guys? At least 3 clients had reservations, and we all ran late because of you. Fortunately, Avis honored the discounted rate, so I actually ended up with a pretty sweet ride. Would give 0 stars if possible. They rented us a Kia Soul that was falling apart, inside and out. The front bumper was dragging, and the brakes were metal on metal. There was a nasty white slimy looking stain on the rear seat. So gross. When we called the number provided, there was no answer. We left an email and didn't get a response until the following day. The response: "please call roadside assistance." This IS a scam. We were quoted $240 through Priceline then charged $330. They are not only liars, but they put human beings in danger. They knew that we were traveling with a child and still rented the broken car to us. We are reporting the company to the BBB. Please do this if you have problems with the company. I'll also add that on top of being trained to scam, the service is rude. read more

The fees ended up being more than I was originally quoted. Then the woman at the desk told me that if I upgraded to a bigger car it would have a navigation system, I did, it didn't. I was stuck with a huge car that I hated to drive. Picking the car up was a nightmare. I was handed a paper and told to check for scratches etc. and write them down. First of all, it was at night in a dark garage and it was backed up to wire wall that didn't allow me to get to the back. Additionally, the car had been run through some kind of bad carwash and still had wet mud stuck on it. So, there I was with my IPhone flashlight in a dark garage looking for scratches. Another thing they don't mention is the charge for tollways and believe you need to have toll tags to get around in Austin. Will not use this company again it was an awful experience. Hate to do this, but can't believe I'm still dealing with this company 4 months after my rental. Waited roughly 45 minutes in line to get through the roughly 10 people ahead of me as there seemed to be some serious staffing issues or a system in place was operating at a pretty slow pace. I got suckered into the toll policy while not encountering any toll roads/bridges of the sort. Opted not to do the insurance as I am a safe driver, didn't have any crazy weather concerns, and I have my own car insurance. Coincidentally, the car gets hit while parked not very long after finally driving out of the airport. I attempted to contact Fox right away only to not have my phone call answered within their hours of operation, but the call was also never returned. Upon returning the car at the end of my stay I provided all of the other driver's legitimate information on their accident report paper. The company either discarded the report or they intentionally didn't use it and reached out by mail for ~$3k in damage. Fast forward a bit and I thankfully had saved the other driver's info on my phone and re-submitted it to them. Didn't hear anything for a week so I followed up and was told they were pursuing filing a claim with the responsible party instead of me now. Great. Case closed. Except not really. I now am getting a letter from the same Fox employee saying I have been ducking payment and that this will be sent to a collections agency if I don't pay in 14 days. This employee is and has been on a chain email thread with my insurance company this whole time. This company is either lazy, mismanaged beyond belief, or is doing its best to wrongly milk people of their money. This company has already gotten their check and they want to get another. It's truly a shame that I chose this company to rent a car with during my otherwise incredible time in Austin. I truly hope this encourages the company to make some much-needed changes because this is not how you will build or maintain a customer base. read more

Donna, their employee at Austin airport was so disrespectful, dishonest with rude attitude. I arrived earlier than my reservation time. I asked her to change my pick up time if it's possible, but She didn't change it, and asked me to leave there very disrespectfully! I asked her to cancel my reservation which was pay at station with free cancellation policy, to be able to get another car online with other rental car, but she didn't do that and made me wait there for three hours. At my pick up time she asked me to purchase their insurance and I mentioned her twice that I don't need it. I said I will buy it through Expedia where I had my car reservation with. Then she said that she will cancel my reservation at that moment with a very bad attitude and no reason! I said you can not cancel it and I continued with purchasing my insurance with Expedia. Then she started reviewing the policy and asked me to sign. She said if you return the car after hours you will charge extra 25$ in addition to flat rate, and when I asked the reason she said ; Mam sign it that's the policy, she forced me to sign that very rudely! I grab my contract and left there to pick up the car but I noticed she charged me extra for insurance despite that I mentioned her twice that I don't need it!!! Zero stars!! HORRIBLE customer service from the local rental at AUS and no help at all from their corporate billing dept. Lots of hidden charges. My reservation went from $386 to $523. I returned the car at 7/8 of a tank and was charged 3/4. When I went to dispute with "Christina" their "Manager", she refused and was too lazy to actually walk to the vehicle to see the TRUTH and instead relied on a blurry pic the porter took and dismissed my concern. When I called their 800 customer service line, their form of resolution is to forward my concern back to the local branch. They would r honor my dispute or acknowledge or do something about the managers lack of regard for a loyal customer. I also asked how my initial Expedia/Fox checkout amount of $386 which included all taxes and fees changed to $523. All the customer rep can say was to call Expedia. WTF! No accountability or care! They should change their company name spelling to FUCKS. Just sly sneaky sleazy rats. didn't know how companies like these still manage to be around. Karmas a bitch. The only reason I gave this a 1 is because there a very nice person at check in otherwise this would have been a zero rating! We picked up a car from Austin airport and drove to Georgetown...the car was shaking! We pulled over and found the tire had a bubble! This could have been really bad!!!! When we called Fox they said WE had to take car to get the tire replaced.. we couldn't do it that night, we had plans and had to have our daughter drive us (knowing the car was unsafe). The next morning we again had to contact road service... we were instructed to take the car to Discount Tire.. my husband went down and waited about 3 hours!!! So now basically we have lost an entire day. And now at this point I call to see if we can get a the toll charge removed due to our inconvenience (approximately $58) So I get transferred to billing...What a waste of time..Anne was the first one who did nothing! Well other than creating more of a problem my "REMOVING the TOLLPASS!" I did not want the pass removed, just the charges! Spoke to Joanna (supervisor) and she basically couldn't do anything either!... The only thing she did was get the pass put back on there... Even though they are billing... They have no authority whatsoever to do anything!... Other than let me spend 40 minutes on the phone and get nothing... I think Fox Rent-A-Car should basically reimburse us for at least half of our rental because of all the inconvenience They have caused us...and more than that a safety issue I don't understand how someone could possibly rent a car knowing or even not knowing that the tires were so bad on there... This Could have been more of a tragedy rather than getting $100 off our car rental ..It could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills or our Lives! Safety should be number one! Concern.... i.e. compassionate customer service, Reimbursement for anything of this extent should be a number one priority! I was also told I had to speak with the General Manager (whose name and Phone # they would no give me) at the time we returned the car rental...FYI we have to be at the airport at 5:00AM... do you really think someone is going to do anything at that time of the morning!!! I'm visiting Austin from Jersey with my toddler and they really made sure everything was safe, clean and no issue possible with my rental. They were very attentive, quick, and respectful. Easily the worst experience I've had at a rental car place. My girlfriend booked a car rental online, and when we arrived, the guy behind the counter (Jaden) tried to give us a minivan, saying that any other vehicle would be an additional $25 a day. Things then took a turn for the worse... When my girlfriend asked the guy to check if the invoice was correct, Jaden said not only that he would not check, but that he would remove the $10 "discount" he said would give us for checking in 15 minutes later than the time we specified online. He then printed out the receipt proclaiming he had charged us the full amount for "questioning his authority" (he actually said that). While smirking at our situation, Jaden literally offered me the phone number for their complaint hotline without me asking for it, saying he did everything according to company policy so he wouldn't get in trouble, and that since the car was booked online and already paid for, we were out of options. Fortunately, this story has a happy ending -- I called that customer service hotline to tell them what happened, and was able to cancel the reservation. We walked over to Budget and got a Hyundai Elantra for less money than Fox was charging for their minivan. read more

Pricing is good at fox but they never have anyone at the booth. Very frustrating when you are trying to check in. No self check out options either unlike other rental car companies. If you can handle long waits to get your car then this is the car rental is for you. read more

Please, please do not rent from these people. There's a reason the reviews are so low here and everywhere else. Not only was I pressured into a minivan when I ordered a compact but when I called in to have the bill explained I got attitude. Listen, your agreement is confusing so just explain it to me. Whether it was a mistake or not, explain it. You have to pay $20 per day you return it early. Fine, but why do I have to almost be yelled at when simply asking for clarification.
