I rent a lot of cars from airports and it's usually a huge pain. This was the easiest experience I've ever had. I used my Costco card and got a discount. I did all the paperwork ahead of time so when I showed up to airport, I skipped counter, went straight to cars, picked a car in the class I ordered, keys were in car, and I left . Michael was a big help, we had a reservation at another spot just down from Alamo but that got Fox'd up and that car reservation got screwed up so we looked to Alamo and got a great ride! My only thing I wish they would change would be to help people at the counter with getting a car. After traveling over 3500 miles and 8 hours in a plane then landing and not having a car to get on the road is frustrating. Then to be told I can only reserve online just adds to it! If Alamo/Enterprise/National could fix their customer service call center line this would be 5 star. All of their calls are directed not to the rental location, but to a centralized, offshore, semi-english speaking location that is an absolute nightmare. Everyone on-site was great @ this location, however for the second time my Sirius radio failed to activate and I had to call the number on the rental agreement that sends you to their call center. Many prompts to get to where you need to go and then long wait times to actually get to a very, very inefficient non fluent CSR. Takes forever to look up and verify the rental only to be told to "turn the radio completely off for 30 minutes and try again". Exactly like the last time. Great point of service experience - HORRIBLE call center experience, again. It devalues the great efforts of the folks on site. read more

I dropped off my car on 4/10/2026 and realized shortly after that I had left my passport inside the rental. Since then, I've been trying to get in touch with someone for help, but it has been impossible to reach anyone or get any kind of response. The lack of customer service here is extremely frustrating. This isn't a minor item; it's a passport and there has been no sense of urgency or even basic courtesy in providing an update. At the very least, I expected some communication to let me know what's going on. Mats (I believe is his name) at the rental counter was friendly and efficient, and at check in, Leah (who is a manager) was helping with the return probably b/ how busy they were and was extremely nice and friendly and showed complete sincerity when asking how our trip was and the rental process etc was. Today, Valentine' Day, we flew in from San Diego, CA with reservations for a rental car from December. There was no line and our car was ready after a 5 minute check-in at the counter. Larry was awesome! Although I was 3 hrs early he made sure I had my car and got me in and out quickly. My wife and I are first time visitors to Austin, TX so my first impression is from Alamo and I think we are off to a great start! My 11 year old daughter and I were stranded in Santa Fe at the top of the ski mountain as everything was closing down. It was cold and dark and we had to wait 1.5 for the car service to arrive to take up back to where we were staying 20 minutes outside of Santa Fe. The cost of the ride was $280 and I was told by the Alamo at the Phoenix airport to submit my receipt and I would be reimbursed After calling 4 weeks in a row, 4-6 weeks after submitting receipt, I was told that the branch manager would be in touch to make things right since I had email confirmation of his commitment to reimburse me for the ride. That said, on my 5th call to customer service, I was told that they cannot reimburse me and then was hung up on. NEVER use Alamo in the case hat the car breaks down and you have to hire a ride to get somewhere safe. They will tell you one thing and then hang up on you when you try to escalate things. read more

Price gouging me $2000 for returning the car to another airport 200 miles away from my original dropoff location which was the only airport I could get a flight out of. Very straight to the point here at Alamo rent a car at the Austin airport. Conceirge lady was pleasant. Our car concierge was straight forward as well. Since there were no economy cars at the ready, we received a free upgrade to a compact car. The chosen car was 90% clean, save for the rims and tires. Inside was exquisite however. Then, since I was over 60 miles from where I rented my car, Alamo sent me to the closest Enterprise branch and said they would for sure have the premium car. I get to Enterprise and of course, they have zero cars available. The manager there was very nice and super sorry. Then i called alamo back and got a horrible agent who offered me 2 options-- 1. Wait 3-4 hours for another car or 2. Uber back to austin to get a new car. this is insane. The alamo agent refused to send me to a supervisor and instead just kept repeating those options. i kept asking to be escalated and it was refused. I hung up, tried a different agent. I think her name was Sienna, and she reached out to the regional manager for a call back. I asked her if i should go to my house in Temple and she said to stay put, it shouls be 30 mins to an hour. So, im standing here in the heat, not knowing if I am going to have a rental car or not, driving myself insane and wondering if i should go ro the nearby hertz this is my firat time using alamo and will be my last. This was shameful. Its been an hour, no call back and this is total garbage. All because this alamo refuses to maintain theor car correctly. Shame shame shame. Renting cars can seriously be the worst, but we had a truly awesome experience at this Alamo location! We flew into ABIA's South Terminal, which requires about a 20-minute shuttle to the main airport to access rental cars. Kind of a bummer, but that's not Alamo's fault, just worth noting if you will be flying Frontier or Allegiant. The shuttle drops you off pretty close, with just a short walk to access the giant building of rental kiosks (note, restrooms are on the outside, to the left of the escalators. You're welcome!). We had a reservation, and there was no wait at the desks. The woman who assisted us was fine, though not overly friendly. She gave us our contract, and directed us to the third floor (accessible via escalator or elevator). We were greeted by Lucy, and promptly offered mini bottles of chilled water, a simple but thoughtful touch, especially after flying in a desert of an airplane. She gave us our choice of two full size cars, which was already very kind, and then when our group of five was attempting to determine the one with most room, she upgraded us to an SUV! This made a great difference in our comfort as we were driving for much of this trip, and we so appreciated it. Returns are overwhelming simply because they encompass multiple companies all together, but once you figure out where you are going it's easy peasy. Just park in line, leave the keys in the vehicle, and go on your merry way. The gentleman who assisted us in this area was friendly to boot! read more

The good: It is convenient to be able to rent a car straight from the airport. It was easy to locate after exiting the plane and the service line was pretty quick. My car was clean and I liked how they put a sanitizing wipe inside for me to use. The drop-off procedure was super seamless, quick, easy and pain-free. The attendant at the drop-off place was really friendly. The attendant at the exit where the barricade bar was located was also quick and friendly. The bad: I rented a mid-size car but they had me in the system as a standard even though my e-mail still said mid-size. Then, when I went to get my car, they ran out of small SUVs as I had requested and reserved. Instead, they upgraded me to a luxury small-SUV (an Audi). As I was exiting the parking lot, the attendant noticed the car had a recall so I had to return the car and get a different one. I was upgraded to a Toyota 4-Runner. It was nice and spacious but wasn't the car I wanted to rent because the larger size was harder to park and navigate around downtown spots. There was also quite a line at the National stand (Alamo customers had to go to National to get their car) and the girl who worked there forgot who I was and said "can I help you?" after I already gave her my paperwork and she was supposedly retrieving my car. She seemed flustered and was running around quite a bit. I think her area was understaffed. The interesting: Three of the companies were sold out on the President's day weekend I came so make sure to reserve in advance if it's a popular weekend! read more

Great experience with Alamo. I only rent from either Alamo or Enterprise and this rental did not disappoint. Landed around midnight and only 1 person working (Gary) so we did have to wait as there were 2 parties ahead of us. Check in process with Gary was pretty smooth, no obnoxious upselling, just gave license and credit card and was on my way to pick a car upstairs. I had reserved an economy and when we got upstairs the rep gave us an option for an upgrade of a Nissan Rogue Sport. Gas is cheap in Texas so why not right? Car was clean, super smooth to drive and very spacious. Drop off was just as easy and even quicker. We rented a small car for two days from Alamo, when got there they said they didn't have anymore small cars so gave us a ford flex for no extra charge. Which was great! We loved the car, the service was great. 60 days later we get a $2200 bill for "damages" and pictures attached with circles where you can't see any damage. Because we know we did not damage the car we did some research, finding out that in a picture they sent us when the damage occurred was 52,511.5. Our receipt shows we used it from 53,000 to 53,100 so the damage was clearly prior to us using it. Called to resolve, they put us on hold for 20 minutes and apparently closed, it just hung up on us. An update on this review, it was resolved BUT we got ZERO apologies, only one person we spoke to was personable or kind. Everyone else, very dismissive, not one email was personal. The final email stating they have made the decision to take care of the costs of the claim but still leaving in our account that we caused damage. My fiance is very unhappy with that fact considering it WASNT during the time we had the car. The man she spoke to trying to get clarity kept interrupting and saying we needed it in writing when we have sent multiple emails and made phone calls. ITS ALREADY IN WRITING. First time coming into AUS. Alamo had the best Yelp Reviews and very competitive pricing so I decided to go with them. I arrived around 4PM. Just FYI as of 4/26/18 the Map Pin on Yelp is wrong. I had read a review that said the Alamo was a distance from the airport but that is not true. It is literally about a 4 minute walk once you exit the terminal. You need to exit, walk through an outdoor parking lot, and there is a building where there are a lot of rental car company check-ins. You can technically check in at Alamo or National since they are the same company. I had terrific service - very fast in and out and my and my husband were on our way. Note: Our car didn't have USB slots nor did they come with adapters but they do sell them (apple and other) and other small car supplies as the booth so that was handy (we already brought our own external charger and usb cords so I don't know how much they were). We were offered free mini bottles of water when going to select our car. We decided to add in pre-pay gas before we left the lot and the guy who gave us the car said to best utilize this we should try to return our car as close to empty as possible- the rate for prepay is very good and better than the closest station to the airport. Return was very easy - just follow the airport signs, drive up to the return area, someone checks your car, gives you a receipt, you leave the car on the dash and you are on your way home! read more

Alamo rental experience feedback is auto closing so I have to do this on here. I rented a 15 passenger van October 2nd to the 8th. When I went to pick the van up it was in bad condition. The front end alignment was off, brakes were squealing, back of the van AC didn't blow, handles to get in and out of the vehicle were not secured and the side plastic would get stuck together when trying to get out of the vehicle. 3 hours of phone tag until all branches closed trying to get a replacement vehicle no luck and no care from Alamo team never reach back out to us about maybe replacing the vehicle a long the way for my bachelor party. Entire trip using this sketchy van. 4 hours until we were back home the driver rear tire comes off breaking the lug studs off, tire goes into on coming traffic not hitting anyone thank God but slamming into a telephone poll. No help getting us home called our own families for rides. The Audacity to not give us a full refund but 3 days off is unacceptable. read more

I have attempted multiple times to get through to an actual person at the Austin airport location to try to resolve the issues that I reported in my last review, as directed by the person who responded to my review, customer service, and the "loss" department who says there is nothing they can do to resolve this issue unless the manager at that location says they should drop the charges. Nobody will pick up the phone there and my e-mails have not been answered. I live on the East Coast so I can't walk in and talk to a manager there's. So, another word of warning, just rent from another agency. They are trying to get $660 from me saying my car was damaged (which they first informed me of about 6 weeks after it was returned without any incident). They are saying if I don't pay it they will turn it over to collections and my credit will be negatively affected. The car was returned in perfect condition. Buyer Beware! There is another person who wrote a review about the same time frame on here who they are trying to get a couple of thousand dollars from! I don't know if someone went through the parking lot messing up cars after they were returned that day or what is going on there and apparently there is no way to reach an actual person there who can tell me. If someone from the actual Alamo at the Austin airport sees this and can contact me, the "date of loss" is listed as 5/27/24, car was a 2024 Chevy Malibu and my name is Sheryl C. Very pleasant experience. First of all, the whole rental car facility is located right across from the terminal. No need to take your luggage and get crammed into a crowded rental car bus. When I arrived, Hertz had a long line but Alamo didn't. I always book the cheapest rental car from one of the big 3, don't have any particular loyalty. The lady at the counter was nice, honored my reservation/price and didn't try to upsell me on anything (besides mentioning the insurance and gasoline). I was finished at the counter in about 5 minutes. Then taking the escalator to the car lot, the friendly attendant gave me a car that was right in my class (intermediate). The car was clean inside and out, full tank of gas, no complaints. Then the man at the exit shack, was nice and got me out of there after checking my driver's license. Upon returning, the guy scanned me in right away, gave me my receipt and I walked back to the terminal. Received my final receipt also by email, no extra charges, no frills. Everything went exactly as it should. National/Alamo & Enterprise are the same company, using the same cars so it should be a similar experience at all three. read more

This is a really late review - used them last year for a trip to California via Austin to Ontario Airport. Upon arriving much later in the evening than expected due to flight delays on 11/2/2023, the young man helping me walked me up to about 25 paces from the rental reserved for me and vaguely pointed in the general direction of multiple vehicles stating "that's your car". I had to ask which vehicle because it was unclear and I was struggling a little with my big suitcase. I am a middle aged female with a large suitcase, purse and carry-on. No offer of help lifing my bag into the trunk, no walk around, no instructions for the use of an unfamiliar vehicle, he just stood in a small group of other employees chatting. I was really disappointed that night with the lack of service and planned to never use Alamo again. Upon my return on 11/8/2023, I was helped by Tasha who asked how everything was. I almost didn't say anything, thinking nothing would be done anyway but decided to do so anyway. Tasha was SO KIND! Very professional and understanding my frustration at pick up. She actually reduced my bill SIGNIFICANTLY, I was so surprised as I didn't expect that at all. Definelty took the sting out of how I was treated upon arrival, and hoping they used that situation with me as a training opportunity for that young man. Alamo charged us $1,200 for a small ding in the passenger door. I will not likely rent from Alamo at Austin Airport again. I will spend a bit more and go for a more reputable place like Avis. We rented a car for 1 week. During the course of the week, someone's door must have dinged our passenger side door. When we returned the car, the worker noticed it. Alamo charged us $1,200 for the small dent. I spoke to a neighbor who has body shop and he said you can fix things like that for under $200. We tried to submit the bill to our insurance and our credit card and they said we needed a police report. We didn't even notice it ourselves - so we didn't report it to the police. I guess they were punishing us for now paying for their extra insurance? I had a similar thing happen once with another company in Denver and they did not charge me. read more

I had an excellent experience through and through with Alamo during my last trip to San Diego and Texas! From the smooth progression of the line at the rental center, cleanliness and newness of the cars, to the price, I was thoroughly impressed. I've utilized about 6 different rental companies in the past, but Alamo was able to deliver the best experience by far, to the point that I had to email them about it! First off be prepared for a bit of a walk from the terminal to make it to the car rental location. You have to go outside (of note if it's rainy), across the lot and then into another parking structure. Clear signs, but a bit of a walk. When we finally made it, there wasn't anyone at the counter. Just a sign saying they'll be right back. They arrived after maybe 5-10 min so not a big deal but certainly not ideal either. Especially since we were excited to for some good ol Texas BBQ we've heard so much about. On top of that there's just one person managing the desk with a line of approx parties so we ended up waiting nearly 20 min. Thankfully at least the person was nice. It was our friend's first time renting a car but the person walked them through it step by step and greeted us with a smile. Alamo is the worst car rental company. The car we rented from Hawaii last December didn't even have any brake pad left when drove down from a more than 10000 high mountain. Also their customer service people were super rude and they even asked us to go back to airport to change the car by ourselves. The car had a lot of maintenance issues. For example, since the moment we got the car, it had the front window wash liquid light on, but they said the tank was full, no brake pad, smells bad inside, etc.. They said that as long as they had my flight number that I shouldn't worry and that they would be there up to two hours after 1 AM to wait for me. I called them again the day of my flight to remind them that I was arriving after 1 AM and they again said that there would be someone there waiting for me. I show up at 2 AM and no one was there. I was stuck at the airport with no one there to help me. If your flight arrives after midnight, do not take a chance and book with them. Even if they tell you they will stay and wait they won't. There was one rental car company out of the many there that was still open at 2 AM welcoming customers. He told us that customers for the other rental companies get screwed every night because they don't wait for customers after 1 AM. read more
