National Rental Car completely failed me. My rental died on the road, and instead of helping, they sent me in circles. The Uber link they provided didn't work. They sent me to Enterprise, who had no clue what was going on and turned me away. I called over and over and kept hearing "your case has been escalated," but no one ever contacted me. No car. No support. No compassion. I've been a loyal customer for six years, and this is how I was treated. I live in this area and routinely visit this location. I have become familiar with many of the faces, but one of them sticks out, and he is worth the time it took me to write this review. My experiences have all been good at this location, but my last visit was exceptional. When I arrived at the Emerald aisle, I was immediately helped by Mr. Jadon. He was kind, and quick to help. When I asked for a specific vehicle, I wasn't very hopeful. I usually do a quick search of the Emerald aisle and if there's no vehicle that I specifically want, I tend to just grab whatever. This time I required a four-wheel-drive.. Jaden did not have to go out of his way to help me find what I was looking for, but he did so anyway, and he did it with a good attitude. Maybe the bar is on the floor for most of my experiences with employees, but Jadon went above and beyond to assist me, I was happy to get the vehicle that I wanted, but I travel enough that that's not enough to qualify going out of my way to spend the time too right a review. His customer service was exceptional. I wish more people had his work ethic. It's rare these days. Jadon, if you're reading this, I appreciate you dude. read more

I've always been a fan of National and their Emerald Aisle Program so you grab a car and go. Of all my years using the program this was the only time the inventory was bare . I'm guessing because of post holiday traffic, Nonetheless, I was pleased with how they tried to recover in this less than stellar situation with quite a queue of awaiting reserved guests. They opened up the VIP inventory to awaiting guests. Many clearly got a much nicer car than they reserved but it was the right thing to do. I enjoyed my oversized minivan in lieu of a Jetta and made the most of it . Check in was brisk and easy. read more

Point blank, there is nothing better in the car rental world than National's Emerald Club. Allowing you to skip the line at the rental desk, pick your vehicle in the parking deck, and limiting your interaction with a representative to verification of your reservation on the way out the lot is an absolute game changer. Couple that with the ability to select any vehicle for the midsize price and I don't understand why anyone would rent elsewhere. The AUS location had a large selection of vehicles when I arrived on Sunday morning. (I can't speak to the selection mid week.) As Executive Elite there were plenty of upgraded vehicles to choose from. I was in and out the lot in about 15 minutes. 12 of those minutes were deciding which vehicle to choose lol - The 2024 VW Atlas worked out perfectly. read more

This was my first time using National and their membership club but everything went as promised- I could just walk in, grab any car in the area, check my ID on the way out, scan the car on the way in and DONE! No lines, no waits. It logged into my account and had receipt emails in my box before my flight took off. I often worry modern tech options just create more opportunity for things to go wrong but everything went right! I wish they had more Toyota options but it was pretty much all Chevy. But they had a variety of sizes/options. I love not having to take a shuttle just to get to the place to get my car and it's pretty well marked and directed. You can ask for a tram ride if you can't do the walking. I would return to National any day. read more

As an Emerald Executive in National's frequent customer program, I was pleased with the selection of cars this evening at AUS. The executive row had several full size cars, a couple of SUVs and a pickup truck. After inspecting the car, there was a very short wait at the gate and I was on the way. A 2018 Ford Fusion hybrid with 5000 miles, it was clean and drove well. Returning was easy and the young lady who was checking in cars was quick and exhibiting plenty of hustle. Today is my birthday and my wife paid for a premium car. The guy helping (I wish I got his name) pulls up in a GMC terrain telling up they're out of Maximums. I was told while paying that there were 3 cars in the premium class yet he's telling me there is one. I'll try not to make this a long story, so to sum it up, his service was "fishy" to say the least, after talking to the original guy that helped me I was giving an Infinity QX80. The giy trying to play us drove the car up very aggressively telling my wife the Infinity was 6 classes above what we had yea ok. He didn't even have the car washed/detailed. I spent enough time on even getting the car, so I declined to push more My advice, make sure you get the car you paid for, and if they "don't have it available make sure they're giving you a TRUE upgrade. read more

I normally love National. Rent with you all everywhere we travel. Last night arrived and found nobody at the drive out gate in the Emerald Aisle (2/19/21). We literally got to the checkout gate at 10pm and it was closed. Keys in car, drove up, nobody at the gates. Running car, bags in, ready to drive to our hotel, but nobody to check our ID and let us out. So we proceed back into the rental car center and only Hertz is open, but they have no more cars. But they are waiting on their customers, So we look up on the National app to see what we should do and see NATIONAL CLOSES, INSIDE AUSTIN BERGSTROM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN AUSTIN, TEXAS, THE FASTEST GROWING CITY IN AMERICA, AT 6PM ON A FRIDAY?????? 6pm, Sixpm, SIX PM! Austin isn't rural Wyoming. It isn't Central Louisiana. It's a major city, and National sees fit to have their rental car center open only until 6pm on a Friday. Unreal. Never again. I'm in my 8th rental with National this year, about 30 days & just a few days from executive. Pretty terrible experience in Austin, TX (AUS). When I showed up they had about 7 minivans and nothing else. I had to wait on an SUV because I drive on a construction site. Got the first one available for my 11 day rental. It smells a little funky but it's decent. The rep on-site was apologetic & polite. Fast forward to halfway to day 4; I'm about to drive 4 hours to a property so I call National to see if they've got anything bigger or better coming in. I was disconnected from the main office while the rep was calling the Austin branch and she did not call me back after I'd given her all of my info. I tried again for the Austin branch and this time after a 5 min wait I got someone who told me they still just have minivans 4 days later - "I mean there are a bunch of cars being washed though, hold on." While I didn't ask for anyone else, a guy gets on the line and proceeds to tell me what's nicer is subjective so he wouldn't know how to help. I ask him to throw out any suv that might be bigger and I say yes to that and he says "you're welcome to come see if we have one." At that point I asked him if he can tell me what's being washed and he tells me multiple times it's "literally a football field away." So, my business isn't worth 100 yard walk or a phone call to someone over there. This went from a nice call to ask if they've got anything to a really impolite guy telling me I'm welcome to come in and look, vehicles turn Around every 5 min and Even though I can be there in 5 minutes; he's not holding anything. Instead he mansplains how rentals work and Clarifies that he certainly won't make any effort to help bc that's a football field away and the other rep and I are unwilling to walk "a football field" or call a phone number. Quick and easy to rent and return here. Partner is executive so we generally grab and go leaving the airport. We have rented from the National in San Antonio and driven here. Likewise driving from The Dallas Fort Worth Airport National rental location down to Austin. Always a nice variety of cars here. Staff are cheerful when you return or pick up your car. Smiling and helpful if you have any questions upon arrival. The drop off location is super simple and you can be in the airport within five minutes. Recently Austin has been undergoing a few renovations so the rental car return sign may surprise you. Stay left as you approach the airport and drive slowly through construction up the ramp. We enjoy National for the benefits. Generally the car selection is better than Enterprise or Hertz. At least at the airports and destinations we travel to/through. Prices are generally similar but with the car selections I'm willing to eat or save the four dollar difference between rental companies. read more

This review has been way overdue. I come to this place on average 4 times a month. The staff is PHENOMENAL! Most of the staff that I have seen a few times all remember me and they are friendly, professional, and they get me in and out with what I need. The location is super easy to get to, just right in the middle of the upper level in the garage. I normally come on either a Sat or a Sun and during this time, the choice of vehicles are a-plenty. Anything from cars, fun cars, SUV, and trucks they have in stock. Mind you, because I rent so much I am executive status but when I was Emerald club regular status, they still have great vehicles. Shout out to Chris, Teresa, and all the Britneys that have gone above and beyond in helping me. I am sure I will be adding more names as I meet more of the staff :) read more

Update : I got the receipts and the payment issue resolved after 2 days of contacting the car rental. Original : I booked a rental car from Austin national car rental and got flat tire the same day. I called the emergency roadside assistance and they towed the vehicle to Austin service center. I am reaching out to national car rental at Austin to provide me with the receiptS for my rental, but there is no response from the rental car agency even after reaching out to the customer service four times in the last two days both via email and phone. Everytime i try to speak to the front desk at National, they redirect my call to customer service where i have to explain the entire scenario to the next person. The app is constantly reminding me to return the car that has already been returned. This type of experience was not it all what I expected from national being an executive elite member. read more

Check your receipt. I drove 29 miles - filled up with 2.27 gallons of gas on the airport grounds and they charged me for 2 gallons of gas. I have called and complained however they said it takes 7 days for a call. This is fraud and I don't understand how they can be so lazy with customer service. Yes the rep was able to refund the $7 charge for gas however since the Austin location has failed to respond to my complaint I am assuming this is a systematic fraud to make more money. read more

I arrived at around 1 am and wasn't expecting any car rental place to be open (atleast that is what the website says). So for all future travelers, most of the car rental companies are open till the last flight arrives. You won't be able to make a reservation online but you can call them up or make a reservation over the counter. My experience with National was good. Had a good selection of cars and emerald members can pick any car in the aisle which is kind of cool. read more

I have never rented a car before. Usually when I fly into a particular city, I utilize public transportation, or I have a buddy cart me around while I'm slumming through the hood. For the first time in my life, I decided to take advantage of being over 25 years old (the official minimum age to rent a car), and rent me some wheels! I figured since I was running a little late leaving the airport... and since I literally picked the first rental car outfit I saw, I was gonna get raked over the coals. Not the case. I was in town for four days, and my compact car only cost $42, total. Really? Only $10.50/day to rent my own whip? Why the hell don't I rent a car every time I fly into a new city? Car rental. I flew into Austin on my way to San Antonio and needed a vehicle. We use National as the preferred car rental place at my company and I have been an Emerald club member since we switched. Because I am in the Emerald club, I get to walk over to the car, pick one and be on my way. The cars here were actually a decent selection - better than some of the other National locations I've used and I scored me a Chrysler 200. Nice. Everyone in the lot area was super friendly and wished me a nice day. Really, that is so refreshing after you've been cooped up in an airplane and land in a new city. The only oddball thing, and it is not the fault of National is that they are a little vague as to where the car rental lots are located. I had to do some poking around to find out they are located on the top of the parking garage. The airport should work on the signage. So- easy check out, easy check in and super friendly people with nice cars to choose from... need I say more? read more

Selected a car from the Emerald Island. Issues: 1) Although the car started the keys where no where to be found. The agent and I searched the car for 5 - 10 minutes before I dug them out wedged under the passenger seat. Is it so hard to put the keys in the tray? 2) The windshield was cloudy, needed a good cleaning on the inside, the side mirrors where covered in water spots and virtually unusable, a safety issue. Wipe your water off the mirrors and use a good cleaning agent to clean the windshield INSIDE and out. 3) Turning on the car a warning light immediately appeared - as they always do on the dashboard when something is amiss. Low Windshield Fluid. Jeez is it so hard to maintain a car you want to charge $90 dollars a day for? This location needs some training on how to make sure they put a great product on the market. read more

Been a national member for years. Their lost and found department is rude and condescending. There should be a way to immediately call the actual desk at AUSTIN AIRPORT to IMMEDIATELY let them know about a list item. Instead when I landed at home, called to inform them I had left a valuable ring and sentimental bracelet in the back seat area/trunk space cup holder. Rather than have someone go out and look in the car (it had only been 3 hours), I was told to complete the online list and found report. So this leads me to 2 BIG ISSUES. Number 1-if they didn't immediately notice these said items in the cup holder, this tells me their cleaning methods are appalling! With COVID, it makes me super skeptical to use National in the future--not cleaning a high touch area like a cup holder...disgusting. 2nd the lost and found process is horrendous. While a jacket or cell phone may easily be found, a ring when told EXACTLY where it was, shouldn't be too difficult. And don't bother calling customer arrives because they will just give you their canned response that "we aren't responsible for any items left in the vehicle". Just like they aren't responsible for thorough cleaning during this pandemic. Absolutely appalling. Do the right thing and choose another rental company that care about your safety and health and actually CLEANS their cars. Oh yeah, at pick up the car reaked of smoke and the floor boards and HIGH TOUCH AREAS were totally dirty and gross. Car rentals are usually reviewed as stressful and long waiting queues. Wow such an exceptional service. Couldnt believe we were in and out of our rental center in less than 60 seconds. No pushing on buying full coverage, gas tank and upgrades. We were told about laws which will help us save money and make things better. We were able to rent a van which was super clean and lesser thank 5 k miles on it. Great service and exceptional benefits of being in the emrald club. I will probably never rent from anywhere else from now onwards. Keep up the great work National @ Austin. Returns were as easy as the pick up. I could return it within few seconds and get my final bill. read more

The price was right, employees were super friendly and the car drove well. The Emerald Aisle: The Only Way to Rent a Car I just returned from a two-week trip this past Sunday where we rented a car for the entire two weeks. We are members of the Emerald Aisle and it makes renting a car SO EASY. We reserved the car ahead of time online and when we got to the airport to pick it up we walked right out to the row of available cars, looked around till we found the one we wanted, hopped in and drove away. You of course have to drive through a gate to leave where they record the car you are taking, but the entire process couldn't be easier. Upon returning the car we followed the signs and an agent met us at the return to check the car and print our receipt. The receipt matched the originally quoted price and we were all set! We were emailed the day of our scheduled return that we had the option of leaving the car with the keys in it if there wasn't an agent available to assist us. The only reason I am giving them four stars instead of five is because of the car selection. The first time we rented from them there were only three cars on the Emerald Aisle and this past time there were five, but three were the same car in different colors. I realize you sacrifice some choice for convenience when using this service, but it would have been nice to have a few more options. One thing to note about this location is that it can be difficult to see the entrance to the car rental returns at the Austin airport. Initially there is a lot of signage but then you get directed into the same area as people parking at the airport. The entrance into the car rental return is a single-wide lane between two parking lot entrances. I almost missed it since it was dark and I had been driving all day. read more

***National Car Rental is my preferred car rental agency and you can pick any car you want in the Emerald Club Aisle as long as you rent an intermediate or higher (and are an Emerald Club member); this National has the convenience of being attached to the terminal; unfortunately, while they had a good variety of SUVs in the Emerald Club Aisle, their selection of sedans was poor (lots of older vehicles too)*** Since this National is right next to the airport, I don't think they offer any parking spaces if you just need to pick up something here. read more

The WORST National Rental Car in the country. As an Executive Elite, I have top tier status with National. My flight ended up getting cancelled, and then the next one delayed. I didn't arrive till 1:30 AM. I went over to National and they were closed. WTF!!! And to make matters worse, I was stranded with my 10 month old baby. Every National firm that I rented through when encountered with a situation like this stays open until the last flight arrives. I had to take a shuttle to my friend's place and then he had to take me back the next day to pick up my rental. I spoke to the manager the next day and he offered me $25. Whoppee do. EVERY staff member here (I talked to about 4 total) were so super sociable and nice. I was upgraded at no additional cost, I was off the lot in no more than 10 minutes, four days later I returned (easy navigation back to the lot!) and was back to the airport in no more than 5 minutes - this included a quick correction to my bill that was handled really well by their associate. Convenient, affordable, and respectable staff. Why can't more companies be like this? read more
